We just moved down the road from Southside 17 so we wanted to try a new local (very local, like, walking distance local) to us place today. The other reviewers are right that it is more of a bar than a restaurant. When we went in, all the tables and booths were empty (it was early- so other diners came in 15-20 minutes after us) but the bar was packed. Some of the bar patrons were a bit rowdy outside too, yelling at each other and exchanging choice words. Not sure how much the bar can do about this though.
For food, I had the spinach salad with shrimp. It was tasty I liked it and the shrimp were very big and very good. I have a lot of salads though, as I really love spinach salads, and it was nothing overly impressive but a step ahead of anything at Publix. I guess it was a generic "bar salad".
My husband had 6 jerk chicken wings and a side of fries. The fries were super disappointing- they look like frozen, bagged fries. Shoestring potatoes. Kinda what you'd expect in an elementary school lunch. He said the wings were good though and his drink was also good (a bit pricey, I thought, but I'm not a drinker so what do I know?).
We paid $30 for a salad, drink, very dismal fries, and 6 wings, and my husband had to go to Publix for some sushi bc he left hungry. I think next time he will get something different.
It's close to us so we will go back, in fact I'll even go back and try it again and update this review. If you're in Rural West Ashley and want a drink, this is a good place. You don't have to drive far. But there are much better bars and restaurants closer to West Ashley/Charleston, this one isn't worth driving out here for unless you're already around.
