Overall a solid pick. It starts off well having a free parking garage nearby and with great weather my wife and I were able to sit outside. The service was good, and friendly. And the food is pretty good. I took my wife here because I tried it before and enjoyed it. On our night out we started with fried green tomatoes, which were very good. For my meal I had the spicy fried chicken sandwich, which was decent, and my wife had the blackened catfish. Definite potential. Service is good and a nice atmosphere. I went here as my wife met with a friend for dinner. The place was close and looked promising so I checked it out. I started with fried green tomatoes, which were good but I think the batter wasn’t fully cooked through. But I would order again. For my main meal I had the Charleston chicken, which was a solid choice. Well priced, tasty, and filling. Finally, I closed my meal out with the key lime pie, which was great. Overall, I think this restaurant deserves your visit.

A long-time Alexandria classic. Great food and service with a neighborhood vibe. Choose from the sports bar or family dining areas. I especially recommend the jalepeno honey pulled chicken, whether as a salad, sandwich, or nachos. The fried sweet pickles are a favorite appetizer my out-of-town family keep asking for. when they're here.

Love this place! Just wish they'd deliver on one of the apps. The 815 Biscuit appetizer is a must-try. It uses sweet potato biscuits but they're not sweet at all so they go perfectly with the salty Virginia country ham and the lump blue crab meat and white gravy. The chicken fingers are also a must-try. Very generous portion, more like multiple chicken schnitzels because these are pounded a little flat (but still thick) and breaded with nice thick flour batter. THAT REMOULADE SAUCE. Best ive ever had. And those poboys are great too. I got a oyster/crawfish combo. Very generously stuffed.

Omg I just got the gumbo for my first time eating here. This is amazing! Absolutely mouthwatering. Definitely coming back! Thank you Nick for the recommendation!

Honestly, this was the best service I’ve ever received! Our server/waiter was Nick and he truly made our day. So much so that we decided to leave him a substantial tip. Nick is very social aware, knowledgeable about their restaurant and items, and he thouroghly explains the highlights of their menu and a brief history of their establishment. He regularly checked in during our dinner but what really sets him apart is his high charismatic and warming energy. This was not only for our table but the surrounding tables as well. Extremely respectful and kind, and a prior service member ! All the best to Nick and we wish him and his establishment all the best. Give that man a promotion !

My wife and I had an amazing lunch here, this is a great spot to sit outside and enjoy a nice meal and a beer or wine!

I visited for a birthday celebration and had a memorable dining experience. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional. The appetizer was especially unique (those nachos), and the blend of soulfood flavors was exceptional. I look forward to returning.

This was our first time at this restaurant. We selected it spontaneously, and it turned out to be perfect. We had front door parking (rare in VA), someone had just pulled out. The service was great. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive to our needs (refilling glasses, bringing us more napkins and condements, etc. without us having to ask.). He had a pleasant smile and a warm personality that made you feel welcomed. The food was delicious! I had the fried green tomatoes for my appetizer and the blackened catfish for the entree. I highly recommend both! We plan to go back. It was a great experience, especially for a busy Saturday.

This is a GREAT hole in the wall joint. I would recommend it to anyone who is asking for a "dive bar" ambiance! The food was great ... we tried the fried pickles, oyster po boy, buffalo wings and the biscuits with ham & crab meat. Everything came to the table in a short time. It was all hot and tasty. No complaints on the service either. We ordered drinks from the bar and brought them back to our table. I can say that the bartenders do a VERY NICE pour. Over all a great place and I WILL be going back!!

I was excited to try this place. At first glance, it appears to be a friendly local bar w/ a cozy hole-in-the-wall ambiance. Perhaps they're territorial, the more time I spent there, the weirder the energy felt - kindof cliquish. On to the food... Fried green tomatoes - blland and seemed undercooked. Pulled pork quesadilla - quite juicy and cheesy. When asked for a spicy salsa, my server pointed to the bottle of hot sauce on the table then walked away. Thanks guy. Apple Cider margarita- no Apple. No cider. Just a regular Ole marg. Noone came to check, Noone asked if I needed anything nor wanted more. Welp, I came...I saw...I ate. One and done.

First time customers and will definitely be back. We sat at the restaurant side for some quiet dinning. Ordered dinner special Beef Stew w/Orange Smash and Chicken fried steak mashed pot and kale greens. Large portions and delicious. Ended up taking half home. Southern kale greens-didn't care for plus has vinegar. Giovanny recommended the stew and having it half/half = egg noodles and mashed potatoes. Service was spot on.

First visit in a while. Easy street parking on a Sunday night. Great service from Kait. I tried the Chicken Fried Steak with sides of Greens and Mashed Potatoes. All had good flavors and the breading on the steak was good. However, the steak was very tough and gristled. It was challenging to cut even with the steal knife. I'll definitely go back for the meatloaf and several other great options on the menu. Maybe the burger. Definitely check them out.

Came here for brunch and had a nice time. Service was very fast. I got the blackberry margarita and veggie frittata. I enjoyed the frittata although it definitely needed hot sauce for a kick. It came with a side of cornbread which was pretty good. Margarita was perfect for a hot day. Sitting outside in the shade under an umbrella on a sunny day elevated our experience. Overall, food was good and service was great. Portions were huge.

Came in here for dinner with my co workers. The customer service was great. Lots of refills and they took our orders and got our food out quickly. The parking was very convenient. There is a parking structure right behind the restaurant The food, I'm sorry to say was not good. Neither were the drinks, old fashions and the signature cocktails. I ordered the baby back ribs as suggested by the waiter. It tasted like it was cooked a few days ago, was reheated and smothered with BBQ sauce. We also ordered fried pickles for the appetizer. It came cold/room temperature. The biscuit and gravy was very disappointing. My other coworkers liked her pasta. My other co worker was not a fan of the po boy. My other co worker loved her catfish. Overall, the food was very hot or miss. Perhaps try the catfish and the pasta. I'm hoping we just went on a bad night where the rest of the food took a hit.

I visited with (2) local friends for early dinner and drinks Tuesday of last week. Ordered Shrimp & Grits and it was 90% sausage with (3) shrimps and very little grits. This was the very worst Shrimp & Grit i have ever had. I showed the bartender (she was our waitress) that it was all sausage and she gave me an attitude (a simple i am sorry would have worked) she didn't even try to offer some thing else in place of it to rectify the situation. Needless to say i didn't eat any of the rest of the dish. I didn't say anything else but i thought to myself you just lost (3) local clients who will tell (300) more local clients about the experience. You can't fix stupid can you?

Great food, excellent service, prime location! Stopped by to catch the game and had a great time. The bartenders are great and the patrons are super friendly. The food is surprisingly good and better than standard bar fare. The French fries were honestly the best I've had in recent memory. I'm not even exaggerating. We ordered a blackened chicken salad and a 815 biscuit which is biscuits and gravy, crab and ham. The food was extremely well seasoned and tasty. The prices were very reasonable and the specials are great. I highly recommend.

I've been to Southside, so many times. It's a great place to meet friends for Brunch, Happy Hour, watching sports etc. The service usually quick and efficient. They have a southern menu or you can get the standard bar menu food. It's definitely a neighborhood favorite.

This is what I got for $21. Maybe they were having a bad day. The place wasnt crowded so thats no excuse. When I placed my online order I did omit the coleslaw and tartar sauce, so perhaps they include a massive heap of coleslaw. But this is pathetic. The fish was crispy, but that was the sole highlight. Not much else to say.

This place is close to our apartment and a lot of the locals patron here. To me it's a hit and miss on food and/or service. We've been about 4 times and it has been good, not so good, good & not so good. The service is slow, or lacks personality. The place is old inside and feels a bit dirty. It could definitely use a deep clean and face lift.

We came here for an impromptu brunch and enjoyed our food here. It has a southern/NOLA diner feel and the food was good. The bread basket was delicious and I liked that it had a variety of items (homemade biscuits, cornbread, sweet potato biscuits). My fiance got the frittata, and I got the fried green tomato benedict with Mac and cheese as my side instead of the home fries. My only complaint is the service. We were seated immediately as it wasn't busy at all but our waiter was kind of standoffish as we were asking him questions, and we had to ask him for plates, water, etc. He also charged our card for another table's food which was around 3x our bill and we were the ones to figure that out. It was an honest mistake and he corrected it though. Overall food was pretty good though!

Southside 815 is a decent spot if you're looking for a casual sports bar vibe. The food is pretty standard bar fare--nothing amazing, but not bad either. It's a solid choice if you're in the area and just want to grab a bite while watching the game.

The staff was friendly and was able to accommodate our party of ten. Our server was nice and provided great service. The food was average- most dishes were okay and lacked flavor. The best dish we ordered was the flounder with shrimp and crabmeat.

Have passed by Southside 815 several times, and finally tried it out. Went out for a work celebration on a Thursday around 3:30/4. We did not need a reservation indoors. They have limited outdoor seating so may need reservations for the patio, unsure. Parking available in the garage in the back (free, on the first floor). I tried the fried pickles, chili cheddar cheese burger, and the spicy paloma. The fried pickles were good but the burger was alright...a little dry. For the spicy paloma, the jalapeño dominates the grapefruit. I was a little bummed on the service. Overall, decent but was given a hard time about splitting checks. We had let them know before we ordered that we will need checks split a certain way, and the response was "I might not be able to do that because it might get too busy later". Ok. Was able to get the checks split (it wasn't too busy later) but why start with that attitude then? Then a coworker was charged 2x on her card and the other coworker's card wasn't charged. Overall, wanted to like it but didn't meet expectations. Will probably explore other options in the future before coming back here.

Great food, kind service, and good atmosphere. I had the Mac n cheese and portobello dish. It was so delicious!

My BF & I walked in on a Friday around 2pm, expecting to kick off happy hour. The place was pretry empty, counted about 10-12 other people here. From the start I was apprehensive as no one was at the host stand to greet/seat us. We waited a couple mins and the bartender come from behind the bar to assist us. Waited another 5 - 10 mins before our waitress came to our table. We ordered fried pickles, 2 drinks, 2 chicken Ceasar salads & a side of fries. Food was sub-par ... I will say the blackened Cajun chicken breast on my salad was amazing! Over all service was unnecessarily slow and it was a medicore experience.

I've been driving by this place for years and never had the urge to stop in. They have a patio area streetside that always seems busy in warm weather, so the place seems popular enough, but just hadn't dropped in until one colder December day. Turns out it is a solid place to drop in, with a southern emphasis and a nice looking weekend brunch menu. The bar area has tables and a large bar that they serve at, and adjacent is a moderate sized dining room, so waits don't seem to be a frustration here. On the menu, several items caught my eye, and will be worth a return trip to check out. This inaugural voyage had us ordering the Fried Green Tomatoes Benedict and the Jambalaya Cheese steak, sans the andouille sausage from the regular menu. The Benedict was very tasty, sporting a pair of poached eggs over an english muffin topped with delicious fried green tomatoes, bacon and a hollandaise sauce. Rounding this dish out were some top drawer home fried potatoes. The Cheese Steak was an ample mix of small shrimp and chicken (again, I had the sausage removed) with plentiful roasted onions and green peppers with melted jack cheese on a nice sized toasted roll. My only nitpick was the chicken on it was very tough, either overcooked or not properly cooked and perhaps stored away. The sandwich is served with a side of fries and a small side of coleslaw. Our highlight however was their signature Brunch drink a Dill Pickle Bloody Mary. The price was right ($10), had a dill pickle infused vodka (great flavor!) spicy tomato mix and arrived adorned with a large pickle and large cocktail shrimp spear. Definitely this is a must-have for bruncher's and others who fancy a nice bloody mary to accompany a meal. As mentioned, the menu has other southern options that sounded (and as we spied them being delivered to other tables, looked) very promising to warrant a return visit. Their salad options were also pretty impressive.

This is my go-to spot for drinks with the boys and bar food. The po boys are my standard with a lager. Pre-pan dem ic there were a bunch of us regulars and our favorite bartender, but since then, the vibe isn't the same. I still say go here for beer, bar food, po boys, and fun with friends late night, but not for a real dinner or date night. This is not that.

This local Mom & Pop establishment is well worth checking out for brunch, lunch or dinner while in the vicinity of Old Town Alexandria. This convenient, nicely appointed, and homey place serves up some fabulous goodies. We met up with some old friends here to brunch/munch recently, and I must say, having tried everything we ordered at the table, nothing was anywhere short of good or great. We had a terrific rendition of Fried Green Tomatoes that was awesome! Great, juicy, tender and crispy Fried Chicken! An incredibly delightful and perfectly battered Fish & Chips! And, they have a Biscuit & Gravy dish that is fantabulous. No frills but friendly, great service, indoor or outdoor, eat in or grab and go, this place has your back with great taste, great service, and great atmosphere. Bon appétit!

Southside 815 is an ok local bar and restaurant. Good variety of food and drinks. Full bar with an ok selection of beers on tap. I had their wings and jambalaya. Wings were very good and definitely will have them again when we return. The jambalaya was also very good, but it was a bit odd with the type of noodles. Wine selection was limited but ok. The rest of my table has a variety of food off the menu and everyone said their dish was ok. Southside 815 is a neighborhood place to go, get basic good food with good customer service. Staff treats their customers well. Free parking in parking garage behind restaurant; a very good aspect to this establishment. Southside 815 is a recommend for an easy going neighborhood bar and restaurant.

Food- authentic southern cooking. Good sized portions. Consistent quality. Filling and tasty. Service - professional, helpful, friendly Ambiance - private booths or tables for larger parties, Attached sports bar is very popular and serves food. Great for families. Good for brunch, lunch and dinner. Outside patio in warmer months.

I had supper the other night with friends and the trout dinner was delicious. We ate outside because hey, it's summer! Good service and food. They liked their chowder and Cobb salad. We agreed we should eat here more often!

Soutside 815! Is a hidden gem. The place is old, but good! I love the jalapeño honey pulled chicken sandwich. I love their PICKLES TOO! EXTRA PICKLES. They have great drinks too. Come here one afternoon, sit outside, and enjoy your afternoon! No REGRETS

This is probably one of my three favorite restaurants in old town, the casual cozy vibe and food made with love are hard to beat.

First time trying Southside 815 and it was a pretty good decision. We were seated as soon as we got there, business was definitely booming. It was very crowded on a Saturday night l, so I guess that's a good sign that it's a good place to dine. The service was a little slow, but I'll chalk that up to it being a busy night. Their menu is pretty extensive and they have a lot of different options for everyone to enjoy. There was a dinner specials menu, which the fish and chips were on amongst some other good sounding choices. There was chicken parmesan on the dinner specials menu, but they were out of it so I wasn't able to try it this time. I did, however, order the jambalaya pasta and that was really tasty. I was really impressed by the flavor on the pasta, it had a little kick to it too. I would definitely go back and order that again. The Fish & Chips were good, the fish was crispy and the fries were really good and fresh. The crab and artichoke dip was a little bit of a weak spot for me, but that could totally just be me. It looked good anyways. They also offer nachos as an appetizer, so I will probably try that next time I go. The dessert menu also looked really good, but I didn't get anything this time. Ratings Fish & Chips - 8/10 Jambalaya Pasta - 9/10 Crab and Artichoke Dip - 5/10 (Still give it a try though) Would go back.

We have been here several times. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. However, on this Friday evening, the service was awful. We waited twenty minutes for our appetizer. Two minutes later the soup and salad came out, two minutes later all the entrees came also. Our table was overwhelmed. We have to asked several times before the waiter refilled our water glasses. The food was average, the meatloaf was dry. The chicken fried steak was tasteless and smothered with heavy gravy. The short ribs were dry. The best dish was the bbq ribs. Very disappointing for our favorite restaurant.

This is a great neighborhood must! The food is great and a very good value, particularly their weekday specials, such as fried chicken, and seafood days. The staff is very friendly and professional, always with a smile. Their HH is fun and seems as if you walk into a place where everyone is friends, having fun and sharing stories. The HH menu is very good as well. One of my favorites is the catch of the day sandwich, the grilled fish steak is huge and fresh! Good pancakes and a delicious corn bread! Highly recommend it!

This restaurant was well marketed! We just got back from New Orleans and wanted to see what this place was about. The crab dip on French bread was decent. The wings were very good. The jambalaya pasta was beyond terrible. It tasted like nothing! My wife took two bites, I took one and I asked the waiters do they season their food! They offered to make another one but we asked for the seasoning to be brought out. (In picture) Still didn't do much so we left a full plate of that! WASTED MONEY! The jambalaya cheesesteak ....... add it to the list of wasted money and a trash plate! If you advertise Louisiana style food/restaurant please make sure you are serving that type of food. The food was just bland all over! We will not recommended or find our way back to this restaurant. It's in old town so they adapt to what is around them when it comes to adding favor and taste.

If you are looking for traditional southern food in a casual environment with a great drink menu, I recomend Southside 815. With a free parking garage behind the restaurant, decent prices, and friendly service, its a hidden gem in Old Town Alexandria.

Consistent for nearly 30 years. Just great "homey" food and good service. Staff and management are customer-centric. Nothing fancy...but nice family atmosphere.

I love Southside. Great food (selection, quality, flavor!), stout drinks, Stacy, G and Pedro are awesome bartenders, plenty of TVs, TouchTunes for music, live music a few times a week (Rook!), and the restaurant side is always staffed well with great service. Anyway, 5 stars as a bar restaurant. If you post less than 4 stars, you're prolly too fancy to be capable of realizing what a perfect bar is.

Not really good seasoning on the food. I've tried this place 3 times and it's been the same. I would probably give it a C over all.

My son recommended we go to Southside 815 for dinner and overall we were please. It was a busy Saturday night, after our waitress realized we were her table she was very attentive. The food was good, portions were plentiful and filling. My son has the chicken Caesar salad and he loved it! He originally orders the Charleston Chicken Combo and wasn't pleased with the flavor, so the Caesar redeemed S815. The fried catfish was just ok as well as the collards. The fried oyster Rockefeller was a great appetizer. I plan to go back.

Very good Southern food. Not as good as it was 15 years ago, but what is? A nice local place to get a very good dinner at very reasonable prices.

If you're in the Alexandria area and you want a good local spot away from the tourism, this is it. Bar tenders always have a good sense of humor and the food is great. Some of the food choices have a little New Orleans soul to it.

My husband, 7 month old son, and I dined here this past Saturday around 6:30ish. We were told a 35 minute wait but ended up waiting about 10. We said first available and were sat inside at a roomy booth with a high chair on the end. A side note, we parked in a free garage on a nearby street. There is some street parking available. Service was great! Our waters were filled up frequently and we wanted for nothing (we are not particularly needy anyways). I felt bad for our server who had a really difficult party next to us- I heard the manager say "you've sent four items back so we will offer 50% off". I could write a whole critique about the party and how they were the worst, most obnoxious customers ever but I digress. He handled it with grace so kudos. My husband had the low country shrimp and sausage-gulf shrimp and chorizo sausage simmered in a Tasso gravy over cheddar grits. Absolutely delicious! The shrimp plump and well seasoned, sausage had some spicy sass, and that gravy was kickin' with flavor! The grits were creamy and cheesy; this was an all-around solid dish! I had the gumbo- roasted chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, and vegetables in a spicy homemade gumbo stew over rice. My only constructive criticism is I needed more shrimp! Everything else was plentiful and well flavored. The okra delicious! A sweet potato biscuit was served on the side and was superb- flaky outside, fluffy inside! The menu, which has an overall southern feel, looks great and I will definitely return to sample more!

Service was good. Food was average, nothing amazing. There were two items on the "specials" menu which I attempted to order, but they were out by 7pm. The ambiance is decent. I would say overall this restaurant is average. It seems a majority of the crowd comes in for the bar.

Great place for food and drink. Especially the bar. Has a local feel, with southern style comfort food. The service is always top notch and friendly. If you go to the bar more than once, Pedro will probably remember your face, your name, and your drink.

Best happy hour in old town. This is a great place to stop into for some pulled pork nachos or a sandwich with a beer.

Southside is wonderful and always is a great experience! The staff is always friendly, and I go about once every two weeks and have never been disappointed. The dipped key lime pie is amazing. The ambiance is just a bit old and could use an update, but it is also a part of the restaurant's charm. I would recommend this place to anyone that is local and looking for something off King St.

Second time dinning here, this time for brunch. Ability to sit outside which is great due to COVID-19. Had the Fries Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. I had the Catfish with Cheddar Cheese Grits and my mom had the Chicken Caesar Salad. Overall the taste was great, the service was great as well. Pricing is overall fine, you get a lot of food for your money.

3.5 rating. A restaurant that i go to on occasion to get their oyster Po Boy. The sandwich comes with lettuce and sliced tomatoes on the side and about a dozen oysters on the lightly toasted sub rolls. A bit different. The oysters could have used a bit more seasoning. Before Covid, the restaurant had daily specials on Monday's and Tuesday's. Po Boys were half priced on Mondays. Still a good deal without a discount. Service was pretty good. I sometimes sit at the bar, sometimes outside if it is a nice day. I think the service is quicker at the bar. I will have ice tea or a beer to go with the sandwich.

Sunday night at 8:40. Waited for 8 minutes at the hostess stand, no one showed up. Not busy. Left.

The restaurant is located on the edge of Old Town Alexandria so it's away from the hustle of King St. They also have outdoor seating if the inside gets too crowded. My family and I went here for dinner and service was fast and attentive for our somewhat large group. I got the crawfish po'boy but I think next time I'll just opt for the seafood without the sub roll. The roll tasted a little dry to me and it wasn't toasted. However, the mac and cheese made up for it. I would visit again and I'll try some other items on their menu.

We love the trout and drunken pot roast! We have been eating there for at least 10 years The staff is friendly and efficient The green fried tomatoes are delicious with their sauce too! Give South Side 815 a try!
