Best kosher Smokehouse around! From Smoked brisket to the Dino ribs,or the Burnt ends this place is a must if you like kosher meat well done

A few things about Southside - don’t be fooled by the name - this eatery is delivering restaurant quality food. Their prime rib was next level - delicious, with great smoked flavor and texture. All of the food we ordered was executed really well - seasoned properly, nice portions, etc. The service was great, and the store was clean - great spot for family or date night. Overall, a winner, winner delicious dinner! We can’t wait to come back!

One of the best dining experiences in the tristate area is located in Lakewood, NJ and is called Southside Smokehouse. It features authentic smokehouse cuisine by postmaster Yitzy Goldstein, who has travelled to Texas and some of the best smoking competitions around the world, in order to perfect his mouthwatering recipes. One of my favorite things to order off his menu is his Jalapeño Burger. The jalapeño sauce takes hours to make and tons of jalapeños along with the right olive oil from Italy. It features two all beef patties sandwiched between some amazing sautéed onions, some lettuce. It is topped with some yummy maple glazed facon. They have everything from mouthwatering burgers and sandwiches to delicious salads and sides. What brought me in this Tuesday was a new dish I saw that would be available that night. It was one of the most delicious looking duck dishes I have ever seen. This duck breast is marinated in duck fat overnight, then put into an empty pan where the duck gets rendered down and gets this amazing crust. Yitzy adds some garlic and thyme into that rendered duck and the flavor continues to build. The dish (pictured below) was THE best duck I have ever tried. It was juicy, not gamey with a nice crust and oh so flavorful. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. It pays to check out specials from time to time. We also got the half pound of smoked pastrami brisket with their special rub, which is smoked for 18 hours. It is definitely one of our favorites. We had some Texas fries, featuring pulled smoked brisket topped with their special south side slaw. We also got an order of Smokey Tacos, some BBQ Poppers and a grilled chicken Caesar salad. Everyone left with a full stomach and smiles on their faces. Make sure to stop by and tell Yitz I sent you.

Incredible smokehouse experience! The smoked prime rib and brisket were both tender and full of flavor, and the burnt ends were absolutely delicious. And the best part? The food tasted even better than it looked, which is saying a lot nowadays. Each bite showcased the quality of the meats and the pitmasters expertise. I highly recommend coming to check it out as you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been a long-time customer and have always loved this store—the food is excellent and the employees are wonderful. However, today was my first time ordering delivery, and I was absolutely blown away. I received a notification when my order was ready, along with a link to track the driver. Best of all, the food arrived at my door in under 20 minutes—fresh, hot, and delicious. Truly impressive service!

Staff were friendly and space while small was cozy and clean Spicy fries were good but weren't spicy Southside sandwich was amazing. Bread was toasted perfectly and perfect ratio of sauce to toppings to meat

Great BBQ, a little pricey but very tasty. Their pulled beef is very good and coleslaw as well.

A GREAT smoked pastrami sandwich, but a little dear at $26. I will be back to enjoy another this week though because it is so addictive ! I am told that the smoked brisket is even better, but I cannot see how this is possible. in the words of some movie superhero, I'll Be Back ! I have already recommended this place for o everyone who would listen.

About a year ago, I was in Dallas, TX getting a kosher BBQ Brisket sandwich at a local eatery. The owner asked me where I was from and I answered NJ. He said that if I am ever in the Lakewood area, that I need to go to The Southside Smokehouse (Note to owners, you may want to up date Yelp with your updated name to avoid confusion). He said it was some of the best BBQ he'd ever had. That's high praise coming from someone in Texas. So this past Sunday, we found ourselves at the beach very near Lakewood, NJ and decided that we'd judge for ourselves. While I am not 100% sure that I can call it the best I've ever had, it definitely was solid. I had the sliced brisket sandwich and my daughter had the Pulled BBQ brisket. While I did neglect to take a picture, the brisket in my sandwich had a nice smoky red ring, and was juicy without being overly fatty. While it had a really nice flavor, I did think that it could have been a bit more smoky, but that's personal preference. My daughter was in heaven with the Pulled BBQ brisket saying she didn't want it to end. High praise from her. A couple of notes: My daughter suffers from nut and sesame allergies. That was not an issue here. While I always encourage people not to rely on my review for that type of info and always doublecheck as recipes and ingredients change, we had no issues at all here. The meat was served on a seedless baguette. High props to the owner for caring about his cuisine. When I asked why they currently do not offer onion rings (It is still listed on the menu) he answered that he wasn't satiified with his current recipe and won't sell anything that he personally doesn't love. I respect that! Ok, now too some constructive suggestions that I hope aren't taken negatively because I truly liked the food here. As a Texan, BBQ Brisket dinners always meant delicious sides, which usually included the following: baked beans, cole slaw, Mustard potato salad, and corn on the cob. While the SouthSide Smokehouse offers the beans and cole slaw, the nostagic part of me was missing the potato salad and corn on the cob. Not must haves, but would be a nice addition. My wife got a hamburger, which frankly she wasn't thrilled with. She would have preferred more medium-rare, versus well-done. Part of the issue is that their basic burger is 4oz which might be fine for a kid's meal, but comes off a bit thin for an adult. They do have a double burger, but that's just two 4 oz patties. I would recommend that the When it comes to the sandwich prices, they may take you aback for a second, but I promise you that there is so much meat/food involved, that it will easiliy make for two meals. I really have no complaints in that area. It would, however, be nice if they could offer a 'deluxe' option with a slight discount to include a side and a drink. I've seen a couple of reviews on Yelp giving negative reviews on service. I couldn't have been happier. Everything was timely and the workers and owner were pleasant. I do wish this place were closer or had a second location in Central-North NJ. I would very much be a frequent patron.

A very good Smoked Pastrami sandwich, but $28 is a bit much...but it was GOOD !

These people are horrible!! I definitely do NOT recommend this hole in the wall. The food is NASTY!! There was only 1 food that I liked there. The place looks unsanitary. The food looks like its been there a while... dry. When you go in, it looks like a shelter for the homeless. When I phoned to place an order, the guy was so RUDE. For a very long time, He stood there carrying his conversations instead of taking my order. I could overhear everything, and he's banging the phone in my ear. These people have NO CLASS and lack common sense! I finally hung up the phone. I will not spend my money there. So many other places to choose from... These people are Losers!

Absolutely incredible sandwiches. Fresh kosher deli meat with amazing sauces and topping combinations. Can't go wrong with their fresh brisket and pastrami. Highly recommend this place to anyone stopping through.

Stopped in after doing some grocery shopping at the new Bingo in Lakewood to grab a late lunch/early dinner.Third time I've been here and once again,a carnivore's dream.You have to try the pastrami eggroll. An eggroll wrapper LOADED with their homemade pastrami and just the right amount of BBQ sauce.The smoked cross between pastrami and salami was mind blowing and short bone ribs sent my taste buds to the mythical Nirvana LOL. Snagged up some extra takeout to go with what we couldn't finish for Shabbos.The only thing about South Side that disappoints me is it's not in my neighborhood back home in Philly.

beef sandwich was dry and left over....I watched the guy warm it up on the grill. When you pay $12.00 for a sandwich you expect fresh hot and a great flavor...my sandwich had none of those!

Stopped in after reading an article about this place and reading some reviews on YELP. Having lived above a Jewish Deli called Sol's on Pitkin Ave. in Brooklyn, I can tell you what a good pastrami sandwich should taste like. But you should visit SSS and Smokehouse to experience it on your own. The pastrami was hand sliced, tender and tasty. The owner whose name I should have asked, was very friendly and was happy to tell me about his food and experience in the food business. I will certainly visit this place again and try some of their Smokehouse fare...I should have ordered an extra sandwich...I'm wanting one again as I write this review. I was NOT disappointed! Perez

The five star rating is for amazing people with hospitality that trumps most places. The food is equally impressive. And affordable. We didn't know it was counter service with paper plates and plastic cutlery, expecting a more formal sit down dinner. But the service, and tempting aromas as you walked in, was a huge incentive to stay. A big shout out to the gentleman at the register. A pure kindhearted person. Thanks for a great overall experience!

The food here is absolutely amazing. I heard about this place for years and needed to check it out. I was shocked at the lack of ambiance and the outdated store, but the food more than made up for it. Really amazing food, great service. Love their cholent!!

Great great food. Won't find a better smokehouse than south side. Quality meats,seems like they take great pride in good tasting food. The reason for 4 stars..could get a little rough on the customer service side of things. Also very strict on some stupid store policy's.For example.. if your order doesn't come with cut up veggies...pickles..you'll have to put up a fight to get some,even when you offer to pay for it!!??

The food is great, the owner will even take you to where they smoke there meats, the food gets a 10/10 but the owner not so much 4/10. needs to work on his attitude. i had friends go in here and tell me that he would yell at customers bc he is a dick. you should get meat candy, and the fried chicken sandwich both get a 10/10

The best BBQ I've had since I've gone kosher. The atmosphere is like a small Arkansas BBQ joint. Highly recommended.

By far the best place in Lakewood to go if you want BBQ. The owner takes pride in his food which is always a major plus and will adjust the menu sandwiches if you ask. All the sandwiches are amazing but shout-out to the white Russian and slammer.

My favorite restaurant owner is a sociable guy definitely interacts positively with his customers the food is great go check this place out you certainly won't regret it 10/10 and definitely try out the meat candy or the burnt ends both rock the house.

Traveling for work and picked South Side and walked into an amazing experience. We quickly discovered that we walked into a Kosher BBQ heaven. Now, being from Kansas I've had both good and bad BBQ and have friends that consider themselves experts, but didn't know there was such a thing as Kosher BBQ. Now I want them all to meet Chef Josef! He asked what we wanted and we asked for suggestions and then the amazing experience really began. He took us behind the counter to see both of his smokers and even shared some of his secrets! We were treated to a phenomenal brisket that had been smoked for 24 hours before it made it to our plates! It was some of the best brisket I've ever had... and that's saying something because I've traveled all over the country. The bark was incredibly black, moist, rich and amazing! I know we only had one meal here, but we left with full stomachs and an incredible experience. You have to stop here if you are in the area. It's definitely worth the drive. Chef Josef is an amazing man with stories to tell and you will enjoy every bite!

This is the best barbecue I ever had. Better than Ari White's Wandering Que and Izzy's, in my opinion. The owner takes great pride in his work, and it reflects in the taste. Smoked brisket was so incredibly soft and fatty and just melted in the mouth, with a wicked bark. The burnt ends were phenomenal, and saucy and fatty, and are my favorite item on the menu. The rib egg roll was also amazing, and I ate two of them. The onion rings had a great crunch, as well, I want to come back and get the meat candy and boneless ribs. Run here, don't walk. The prices are also half of what other kosher BBQ joints charge, making the trip worth it. I would ask for bread, pickles, and cole slaw next time. The richness of the meat needs the bread to cut it.

I went with my wife , sister, and foodie brother in law. I totally let him order for me. Everything we ate was delicious. We especially loved the rack of lamb. It was like butter melting in your mouth. The place can use a decor update, but we went for the food, not the ambiance. Definitely recommended.

BBQ was tasty but I had to throw out 1/2 of it because it was so fatty. My husband had the burnt ends and those were also very fatty. Fries were very oily not sure if they how often they change the oil in the fryer. On top of all that I was charged $37 for 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas. Wow! What a shonda.

Passed by on the way back from Atlantic City. The food is great, and the prices are great too. The management is great, the only down part was their operation is a little disorganized. The ambiance is very laid back. We passed the restaurant when first looking for it as it has very little signage that would resemble classic restaurants.
