A Texas Barbecue Primer From Regional Styles to 6 Essential Stops

"Owner and pitmaster Bryan Bracewell has a degree in meat science from Texas A&M University, but more importantly, he comes from a long lineage of pitmasters who smoked meat the original Central Texas way. Now with four locations in Texas, Southside is the oldest barbecue joint in the state and continues to stay true to their meat market roots with raw cuts to-go and smoked-to-perfection goodness sold out back. The brisket is smoked for more than 14 hours over post oak wood and can be ordered lean, moist, or mixed. They have lamb ribs, smoked turkey, and even a pork sausage stuffed with cheddar-stuffed jalapeño and wrapped in bacon, but their most-sold plate is the Texas Trinity (i.e., sausage, pork ribs, and brisket) served with pickles, white bread, and sauce on the side." - Kristy Alpert

You have to stop here for some great BBQ. This place is amazing, the food is delicious and the service is great. I usually order the chopped brisket sandwich with a side and a drink. The meat is always cooked to perfection, tender, and juicy with great flavor. They have lots of side choices, like mac and cheese, beans, fries, and more. They have souvenirs and bottles of their sauces and any and all of their food to go. If you are traveling from Austin to Houston this is a must stop, you will be glad you did.

Google
Headed home and decided to stop in for lunch. Sat-Sun the Dinosaur beef rib is the special of the day, so we had to get one, all 2 lbs worth. The brisket and stuffed sausage, as well as the Potato Salad and Mac n Cheese are on point! Glad we stopped in and as many times as we drive through Elgin we will definitely be back!

Google
I ordered the Elgin Sausage, a nostalgic choice for me since I grew up enjoying it at Meshack’s BBQ in South Dallas. The food was great—my only minor complaint was that the barbecue sauce was a bit lighter than I prefer. However, the highlight of my visit was Jose in the butcher shop. He took the time to walk me through the different sausages, sharing his deep knowledge and passion for the craft. I was truly impressed—this guy needs his own butcher shop! Overall, a great experience, and I’ll definitely be back.

Google
Amazing BarBQueHut. Beef Rib was 2.00 pounds, Brisket was Awesome, Best MacCheese. Since 1882. Always our Stop 🛑 when rolling thru

Google
They have multiple locations between Austin and the western Houston area. They represent the traditional Texas meat market and bbq shop. This is a great example of how the Texas bbq scene came to be. They use oak for their smoking process.

Google
Yummy! There was quite a line when I got to the restaurant, but the line went quick. Good food. Probably not the best bbq I've ever had, but delicious anyways! I felt the price was a little steep, but not the most expensive bbq I've ever had either. The staff was friendly and helpful. Establishment was clean and well organized. Good size parking lot.

Google
Man, I hate to say any BBQ is bad, but the brisket was actually inedible here. Service was slow and unfriendly. I asked if they had moist brisket. The server didn't answer, but just started cutting. I should have stopped right there when I saw the meat being cut, that's on me. I never should have paid, but thought I should give it a chance. Very, very dry meat ... the driest brisket I've ever seen. Sadly, I had to toss it in the trash and head on down the road. That's my experience.

Google
Meat lovahs only!!! Blessed enough to have eaten at Southside since I was a child & I even remember the original building with its screen door and the railroad tracks next door!! Always delicious food. Yummy dessert, fantastic sides, iced tea on point, buffet with all the fixings!! God bless Southside Market!!

Yelp
I came to Southside Market after a retreat in Giddings, TX, on my way home in Manor. It's conveniently located right off of the highway. The space is huge with plenty of indoor seating for small or larger parties. The ordering process is cafeteria-style--ordering and the placing of your ordered food on plates on a tray then paying and going to your seat with your food in hand. It was smooth. My 3 friends and I were then able to find a table quickly. I ordered a 2-meat combo with cuts of brisket and sausage with a side of macaroni and cheese and potato salad. The brisket was juicy and tender and the sausage was super flavorful. Mac n cheese was pretty good and potato salad seemed to be mayo-based, which I prefer. Overall a good stop--in my personal opinion better than its competitor down the street which shall not be named! I decided to go all out and order dessert too! Peach cobbler a la mode. It was a delicious ending. The cobbler was nice and warm and the creaminess of the ice cream balanced out the sweetness of the cobbler. Overall a great visit. I'm not much of a BBQ person, but this BBQ was good!! Would definitely come back.

Yelp
The food was great! We got the three meat plate with brisket, turkey, ribs, coleslaw, potato salad, and beans! It was ammmazing!!! They had the biggest saltine stash I had ever seen. The service was good, very friendly, and they let us decide. The ambiance was good, very stereotypical barbecue joint-like. The bathroom was clean, but the stall was hard to latch, the sink was slanted, it was SUPER CROWDED, and the hand soap was generic TRASH.
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is conveniently located to us so we've come a few times! My go to is the brisket and Mac and cheese, but their ribs are also pretty good! I am not a fan of their sausage - flavor or texture wise it is like natural sausage. They have varying types of bbq sauce and my husband really enjoys their spicy/hot one and I'm a fan of their regular. They have a drive through and spacious indoor seating.
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
Off the highway and very old school bbq joint. We opted for the drive through with kids sleeping peacefully in the back. The brisket was a tad on the fattier and not heavily salted side. Which has it's own pros and cons. Now...the sausage. Was out of this world!!! The casing was super crisp and the meat was juicy and delicious. Jalapeno cheddar for some reason was less greasy than the traditional sausage. Great experience!
google avatar

Beni G.

Yelp
The food here is a bit pricey, but it's good barbecue, not the very best but delicious enough to calm your bbq craves and save you a trip down highway 183. The bbq sauce can get some work down, maybe spicier, more mustard base, the sausage is what Elgin is known for. Grab a slammer some pickles and you're good to go.

Yelp
Service 10/10 Food 6/10 We stopped by here coming back from a playoff game and the service was top tier. They let us know right away they were sold out of a few items and it was later when we came. However everyone that served us was wonderful. I ordered chicken and brisket with Mac and cheese and corn on the cob. I enjoyed the chicken but I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese or the corn on the cob. The Mac and cheese had some hard parts and my corn on the cob was extremely mushy like it was boiled too long. The brisket wasn't bad but not the best. Overall I would prob give them another try but during the day when they have their full menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Bringing them down one star. Ordered sausage (delicious), beans (delicious), potato salad (I don't eat it as it's mayo based which IS NOT Texas style), and brisket (sucked) to feed six adults. The brisket sucked as I said. It was pale, blah, and tough. They have awesome sausage and beans so those are your safe choices.
google avatar

Rosmond P.

Yelp
Great service and line moved very fast. We ordered the Fam pack for 6 and we were ready to go. The sausage is pretty greasy compared to Rudy's and what I'm used to years ago.

Michele C.

Yelp
I had the kids plate with a sausage wrap and coleslaw, and it was excellent and a good price
google avatar

Stephen L.

Yelp
First things first, the food is great! Decided to bring my Pops here for Father's Day and as you'd expect, it was packed! They had two lines going and while a tad slow, it was busy and the lines kept moving which was good. We ordered pork ribs, turkey, jalapeño sausage, brisket, Mac and cheese, beans, potato salad and both cobbler options. Everything was spectacular. Well seasoned, really well cooked, great Smoky flavor on everything, it was good! My father enjoyed it as well. The place has some scattered tables and some family style seating which was nice for bigger groups. We were a group of 4 so we sat in the back at one of the side tables. The only complaints I have are one of the soda machines was not working and they seemed to keep running out of ice in the machine. With a packed house, the one soda machine was a pain but we managed. Overall good experience, good food, friendly staff!

Yelp
Passing through on 290 and well worth the stop! Out of four total meats on our plates, the sausage was my favorite, followed by the brisket. Pork ribs and turkey were also good. I'm sure whatever meats or sides you order would be delish. Speaking of sides-- may I recommend the mac and cheese!!!! Can't believe I'm saying this, but might have been the best thing on my plate! Both creamy and crunchy and I should have bought extra lol! This location is both drive-thru and dine-in. Expect long lines everywhere lol. Once again confirms there's nothing like hot off the grill bbq on a sunny day in Texas!

Yelp
These tasty little mounds of Deliciousness were a hit at my last brunch party. So for starters, they are wrapped in bacon and we know that means good stuff is inside. Sausage meat was stuffed with a good section of jalapeños and a chunk of cheddar cheese and all wrapped in the bacon. They come pre cooked so all you have to do is defrost in the fridge overnight and place on a baki g sheet for 10 minutes per side. So easy to serve such an elegant, tasty treat. The ship in a temperature controlled package and arrive on time. It says jalapeños but we found them to give mild heat. Not HOT.

Sandra T.

Yelp
Food was wonderful Ambiance good Service Awesome Only problem was The deserts were terrible. Buttermilk Pie was too much crust. Buttermilk pie taste. Banana pudding was good the cool whip had no taste.

Doug M.

Yelp
One hour ago today (11-04-2024), we stopped for a take out of chopped beef sandwiches. Southside used to be top notch many years ago. Today's sandwich was gross: 35 to 40% fat, loaded with salt and a taste that never could be mistaken for real BBQ. Maybe this was a one-off, maybe not. Do not take a chance on this quality. Save your money.
google avatar

LaRon E.

Yelp
One of my favorite BBQ place to eat at in Texas, but the price of the 1/2 brisket sandwich is over doing it. The service was quick and the ambiance of the place is regular for your normal BBQ JOINT.
google avatar

Lowell O.

Yelp
Show-cooked fast food? Yes, please! But, dang! Good think they gave me extra napkins! Sliced brisket sandwich was great. Best I've had from a drive through window. Sausage slammer is a salty calorie bomb. I'll come back for the brisket and other meats, but not the slammer.
google avatar

GJ B.

Yelp
I ordered brisket, sausage pork ribs, with coleslaw and Mac-m-cheese sides, the additional side of attitude it came with was free, but I can understand since it was on a Sunday after 6pm. Still, the brisket and pork ribs were outstanding! The sides, not so much, enough to take off 1 to 1.5 stars! The coleslaw tasted like it had gone bad and my kids stated that HEBs Mac-n-cheese was better, so okay the sides aren't good but the star attractions are great!

Yelp
Under no circumstances ever order on line. The first time I got home and an items were missing. The second time I arrived at 3:45 after placing the order. At 3:50 I was told they were bagging it. I inquired about it at four and the manager told me that quite honestly the order had never been started. When I told them I was not comfortable with someone lying to me about that they looked at me like I was crazy. This is the example of a restaurant that believes since it has really good food that they can just sit back and treat customers like dirt. I will never come back to this restaurant ever again.

Yelp
The restaurant was nice and clean although, I was there not long after opening, so there was no one inside the restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. Now for the downside, I ordered half a pound of moist brisket and half pound of sausage. I was disappointed in the beef sausage; it appears that it was a coarse ground and there were a few bites that were not chewable and had to be spit out! The brisket was moist, full of fatty bites and I couldn't find any seasoning or taste of seasonings on it. It appears that the bark was great, but no flavor to the brisket. I also got a chopped beef sandwich, a small one, and even with the bbq sauce, it didn't really change the taste of the beef. The bbq sauce was somewhat vinegery and not too tasty for me. I don't think I'll be going back. I had high hopes for this place, so I guess I'll have to breakdown and go to Franklin's BBQ. Good luck to everyone to goes to this BBQ location.
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
Delicious moist brisket. It was just Smokey enough. Fabulous Mac and cheese. Cole slaw was just okay. Didn't like the pepper in it and I prefer cabbage with some purple in it. Bbq sauce was good too but a lil on the peppery side. Tried the original sausage and it was moist and tender but too pepper and spicy. So I didn't like it. They need some soda bottled in a glass with cane sugar instead of only beer. This is the oldest bbq joint in Texas so felt like tasting a piece of history!

Jeremiah L.

Yelp
Friday early dinner. Brisket and sausage were amazing, tried the ranch hand and really enjoyed that. The sides of potato salad and Mac n cheese didn't disappoint. This is our 3rd visit and service was top notch as always.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Order two sausage wraps, and a iced tea, the tea was to be expected restaurant style tea. But the sausage wraps were terrible one seem to be underneath the warmer for for longer than allowed it seemed. Both sausages were pure, grease and mushy meat with a nasty flavor within minutes of eating stomach was turning due to the amount of grease. Don't waste your five dollars per wrap.
google avatar

Jeff U.

Yelp
Beef Ribs huge!!! And good Chopped Beef Sandwich very good Elgin Hot Sausage reminds me of my childhood with my Dad. I brought my kiddos today after getting a trailer of firewood. It's a tradition Mac n cheese well that's a no for us Cold lone star beer too!!!!
google avatar

amanda b.

Yelp
Best Mac and cheese ever!! Need it all the time. I also love their smoked lamb. And of course their regular barbecue is amazing! Get in line early otherwise everyone else will beat you the there.
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
I'm pretty picky about barbecue, primarily because there are many barbecue restaurants, none of them are cheap, and many of them are - as my kids would put it - "mid". This place is not "mid" at all. It's not the best BBQ place I've been, but I'd say it's in the top 5. The sausage is great, and for me the gold standard by which Texas barbecue should be judged - the chopped beef sandwich - is great. No chunks of fat that didn't melt. That's the worst and I'd not go back if they had those. I'll definitely be coming back when I pass through Austin.
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
Bad. Bad. Bad. Ordered a $35 beef rib. It was by far the worst beef rib I have ever been served. 75% fat, 15% bone, and just a tiny bit of edible meat. This place has gone from mediocre to just plain BAD. Doubt I'll ever return.
google avatar

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Great service, the entire staff if friendly and engaging and they always make me smile. Brisket, great Sausage, amazing Sides, delicious (Mac n cheese the BEST) Banana pudding, yum

Yelp
The food is always great. Service has continuosly improved over the years and is good. LISTEN TO THIS if you are a relative novice to Central Texas BBQ. You have to know what you like to knoe HOW to order. This isn't like Whataburger where they make everything the exact same. There is a lot of variety depending on personal preference. Some people want their sausage extra juicy and dripping. I prefer man as dry as they can give me. The brisket is coming from a 20 pound piece of meat that really is comprised of two sections with about 6 subsections. Some people prefer the "lean" section which to me is dry with less flavor. Some prefer "moist" with all the bark. My point is you need to educate yourself somewhat on what your personal preferences are to get your best experience. Two people can sit down to the same plate and have completely differing opinions. The great thing about barbecue is you have all the variety if you just know how to ask for it. When you go in next time, try when it isn't too busy and ask the cutter to explain the different parts of the brisket and sample from the different cuts. Also, the pork steaks basically have all the flavor of pork ribs but without the bones. As far as ambiance, this is an old school, cafeteria style Texas BBQ restaurant. Get the experience. Eat on butcher paper. Share the food family style instead of ordering "plates." If you don't drink beer, drink big red or orange soda or RC Cola. Those are the old school options you won't find in most places. Finally, finish it off with blue bell ice cream at the end. You will not be dissapointed.

Charlie A.

Yelp
Ordered the texas trinity. Absolutely the biggest disappointment ever. Supposed to feed six. There is no way that is possible. Came with 4 rib bones 4 sausage and I bet if I would have put the brisket on a scale it would have been a half pound shy. And that bbq sauce was disgusting. You want a good sauce I'll sell you my recipe. Was tasting that sauce for three days. As well as that wild gamey tasting sausage. Very disappointmented that I paid over 90 dollars for that garbage

Yelp
Review is for mailorder BBQ, it was the main for our Christmas Dinner and left everyone super happy! Previously, we got some mail order BBQ from Joes KCBBQ and I was complaining to a friend about the quality and asking questions about reheating since he's an experienced competitive BBQ chef. He ended up surprising us with Brisket and Sausage from Southside as a gift! Brisket, Point Cut. Our family isn't large so a whole packer is too much, the point is only $20 more than the flat and it was still too much meat for 5 adults and 2 children. The point was primo and we made leftover tinfoil meat pouches we've been giving to friends that are all in love with the brisket. Point was perfectly cooked with a light and delicate smoky taste that was ultra tender, unwrapping it after heating the meat jiggled . Very easy to reheat, we just wrapped it and put it in the oven. A shame the bark is sacrificed but would trade that for this awesome mailorder over any local BBQ place. Beef Sausage, my friend is in love with this. We heated using indirect heat using my cousins gas grill, it was very good but too peppery for our personal preference.

Ann O.

Yelp
My daughter stopped to get ribs for dinner, when opening the wrapped me one of the ribs didnt have any meat on it or looked as if someone ate the meat off it. Did you not see that when you wrapped the meat up, on top of that tried to overcharge her but did reimburse her. I sent a complaint so waiting to hear back from them but was very disapointed not sure why they didnt notice this when making the order...
google avatar

Norm C.

Yelp
Oh boy. I wanted Texas bbq and this place delivered. We had a general spread including brisket ribs and sausage (btw Elgin is famous for sausage) along with slaw beans and potato salad. It was all great. No sause required on any of the meat. It was delicious. Its hand cut as you order and you take it to your seat. Prices were very fair and staff was really friendly. Evidently they have several location around Austin area so I say find one and get ready for some great food. Can't wait to return
google avatar

Billy R.

Yelp
So for a die hard BBQ fan my rating is fair. Briquet was moist yet lacked seasoning. My wife had the turkey she stated the same. Service was extremely efficient they are prepared for crowds. But I think the bbq was more flavorful in the past. Again I must stress I am harder on bbq places as it is my favorite food.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because 1. I don't like Smokey Barbeque, especially if it is a little dry and 2. I didn't like their corn. However, they have an insane amount of meat to choose from whether you want the classic brisket or ribs or want something stuffed. So that was a nice mix. The place is pretty big so there is plenty of seating. It's a serve yourself kind of place, so you wait in line to order and then go sit once you get your order, like a lot of other bbq places are set up these days. So, very family friendly. They also have a blue bell ice cream area that I avoided because I would have eaten all of it!
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
Always delicious. I LOVE the loaded baked potato. Plus they service hand dipped Blue Bell ice cream. It's a must try when traveling through town.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
This place is right up the street from me a must if u are heading to Houston or just a local that's in the area. The turkey and jalapeño sausage are a must. The mac and cheese is decent too and the pork steak is huge I recommend this place to everybody 2 thumbs up!!
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
One of the best on the go brisket sandwiches I've ever had. Very flavorful, tender and cooked to perfection. It's was also a very nice serving of brisket so I didn't feel skimped on the purchase. I almost regret not getting the sides so I could have the whole experience but I didn't want to get to sleepy on the road. If you're on Hwy 290 heading to Houston or anywhere please make this a stop. It's worth it!

katy r.

Yelp
Food is fine but service is awful. I made the mistake of ordering online and I got there early. Instead of working on my order early they made me wait 50 minutes for the order to be ready even though they said they were "working on it." Finally I asked to cancel my order and I'll go through the line because people were walking in, placing their order and walking out with their orders in 5 minutes. They refused to let me cancel it.

William C.

Yelp
Baked potatoes over priced, just cheese and butter and sour cream, dry potatoes no Barbeque sauce

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
Very disappointing....Ordered half a chicken, sausage and coleslaw. Chicken was dried up and juiceless, sausage was average at best and amazingly bland, coleslaw should be discontinued ASAP...cabbage with milky water, yuck...final note...if you like the over whelming taste of cinnamon or alspice as a rub or on your meat or in your barbecue sauce you are in luck...I am not a native Texan, I have only lived here for 50 years...this was my first visit to SMB, I have had much, much better Barbecue than this...This place is way way over rated...

Jojo M.

Yelp
Delicious with GF options. I got the half chicken. It was mouthwatering and delicious! Many ice cream flavors were GF.

Carson T.

Yelp
Very disappointed in price and quality. Chose the drive thru option sausage was listed at 5.49 for a lb. Was charged $34 for a lb of sausage and a sliced brisket sandwich. They delivered my meal covered in crackers and bbq sauce, in which the crackers had more flavor than the brisket sandwich and sauce tasted as if it was a Bloody Mary. Can't see myself returning

Some 1.

Yelp
I will tell you the good and the bad from my visit -- the Good: The Gentleman at the drivethru was extremely professional and friendly. He is also the same person who answered my phone call when I called to ask questions. The Bad: I ordered 2 things - a sausage wrap and a chopped beef sandwich. Disclaimer: I am a 50 year old native Austinite so I know how BBQ is supposed to be. And a "Sausage Wrap" needs to be on a tortilla, not a plain piece of white bread that desintegrates and is disgustingly soggy when you put BBQ sauce on it. Truly, as a Texan I am offended that they would even try to call it a wrap and put it on a lame piece of white bread that can't even fully wrap it or stay in tact whatsoever. For the record, I did not want a refund - I only wanted them to either STATE that their "so-called Wrap" comes on a piece of white bread, or else take it off the manu, because that is NOT a sausage wrap and I would never order this in my life on a piece of white bread. From the talk I had with the Supervisor, he claims their process has been in place since the 60's but anyone around here knows that "Sausage wraps" are a relatively modern concoction only brought about maybe 20-25 years ago. So this certainly wasn't on the menu in the 60's.and I don't care anyway - this is not a sausage "Wrap" and it's insulting to call it that. And it doesn't seem like they will change it, but I welcome a response from the owner saying they will. Outside of that, I will never buy from Southside Market again, and that includes meats they sell at HEB. If you don't know what a sausage wrap is, then you don't belong making BBQ. Ok now - just to give my honest opinion of the food quality and taste: Sausage was "ok". I really don't like the consistency so much, but it didn't taste bad. The sauce: Too Wet !! No thickness at all, and kinda runny. No smoky flavor at all. It was just "ok" I give it a 5/10. The flavor was decent, but not great. It was go. About the sandwich - first off...bun was small, not warmed up or anything...kindof a downer. The meat was pretty good 7.5/10 -- not too fatty at all which was nice, good consistency, but not blowing me away with flavor. Furthermore the sauce left much to be desired and of course it needed sauce, but the sandwich with pickles and sauce was very mediocre. 6/10. The bun and sauce brought it down - if those were better I could have given it a 8.5 or 9 out of 10. My verdict - desappointed to say the least. I don't hate this company, but from the food today, I have no reason to ever eat there again. Just because you know how to smoke and grill meat doesn't mean you know how to do BBQ - I don't care how long you have been in business. Lastly - I'm not upset but there were ZERO napkins in the bag. I did ask the supervisor if I was supposed to ask for them, and he said No - that he will coach the employee. But seriously - you gave me a brisket sandwich and a soggy sausage bread thing and not 1 single napkin?? Well, it seems to go with the territory that they are missing the mark. The takeaway - Seriously get tortillas or take "Sausage Wrap" off the menu. It is sacrilegious and also quite frankly false advertising. Y'all know this is Texas, right??

Yelp
Visited this BBQ joint as part of the Texas BBQ trail. The restaurant has a drive through which makes is easy to get your BBQ fix during Covid times. Ordered the brisket and the lamb ribs. The brisket was one of our favorites on the Texas BBQ trail, we visited two other BBQ joints during this day. The brisket is super rich so we could only eat a limited about but there was so much flavor packed into a little portion of the meat. The lamb ribs were pretty good, a nice complement to the brisket. Has more of a gamey flavor but very tasty and glad we bought some. One of the top stops we made to get BBQ, highly recommend stopping and trying some of this good Texas BBQ!

Yelp
I have always bragged on the southside market in the past. I stated that I could not pass it up if I was going through Elgin. This time, however, the portion was an absolute rip off. I could not believe the shrinkflation. I got a two meat plate, and I guess that means you only get half of a portion on each and half of that was fat. I was highly disappointed, because I was anticipating sooo much more. I hope this is not the new normal. I will try them again; but if they give me these kinds of tiny portions again, I won't go back.
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Good brisket and sausage Sides are also really good - great cole slaw and mac & cheese

Brandi M.

Yelp
On my first visit to Elgin, I was told I needed to go to Southside to try their Elgin Sausage. It reminded me of some of the BBQ spots you'd see with Blue Bell ice cream and a meat market inside the restaurant. I did order the Beef Sausage that day but since then I've had Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Ranch Hand Bowl, Turkey, Brisket, Mac and Cheese, Coleslaw, Beans, and more! I haven't been disappointed. The service has always been good and I love that they have a drive-thru in case I don't want to go inside. They also have daily specials that are good and they don't skimp on the portions. Their BBQ sauce is okay and they also offer fixings like jalapeños, pickles, onions, and bread.

Yelp
Recently I stopped at Southside Market. I've eaten there before and came back while on a road trip because the food was very good. I ordered from the big menu overhead and asked for two BBQ plates and drinks. When I got to the cashier, the bill was $45.00! What?? I said to the cashier, "Wait, that's not right." She told the meat was EXTRA!!!! How can they advertise a BBQ plate for one price then say the meat is EXTRA and tack on more money?? This is outrageous. The cashier got someone else to talk to me and I complained about the false advertising. I don't know what this man's title was but I told him that this is false advertising. Then he mumbled something under his breath--"Yeah I've been meaning to fix that." I'm so disturbed they continue to rob customers of their money. My suggestion is IF you eat there, ask what you are getting for the price of the plate. Chances are they will not tell you the meat is extra! Beware.
