Sovereign Apartments

5 stars for the new property manager Matthew who is extremely helpful and respectful even with the hard to deal with management above him (3 stars for them…) This building was not managed well in the past but the improvements he’s made the last few months have been very appreciated by tenants and you get what you pay for in terms of neighbors but this building has better pricing for a unit in the heart of the city than most and you deal with with less crazies than downtown/broadway. Edit: 1 star until confirmed received deposit still haven’t two months after move out :(

My friends live here. I always enjoy getting to visit them. I love that this building is historic and all the other tenants I've ever interacted with here are all beyond friendly. Unfortunately, I've heard nothing but terrible things about the building's management. They are extremely unfriendly to just about everybody: delivery people (from USPS to Uber drivers), the tenants, visitors, and I imagine the contractors who have to come out at least once per month to fix that elevator. I've also occasionally observed that other tenants can be unfriendly to each other. Many of the tenants here keep dogs and despite all the signs asking them to clean up after them, they consign the other residents to doing so. It's very contentious in this building despite its history and some of the beauty it holds. I've met some of the friendliest people in this city here. It is a shame that such a building is owned/managed by some of the meanest people I have ever known in this city. I firmly support any and all efforts of unionization by the tenants. They should have fired the manager years ago. Frankly the tenants should own this building, they could probably do a better job keeping this elevator from breaking, or outright overhauling it, than the managers ever could.

I understand its pretty cheap comparing to other buidlings around but keep in mind you will get what you pay for! The building manager keeps changing and its hard to reach to them. Elevator is out of service sometimes, I lived in the 5th floor and the roof leaked once and the management did not really care. most of the washing machines are not working most of the time. Finally make sure you check the apprtment very well before moving in and document all your notes. The management will charge you for anything they can when moving out. I'm not saying its a bad place to move to but again you get what you pay for!

Honestly would do anything to get out of my lease! I am a current resident, and dealing with this apartment management is a nightmare. Since we moved in the management will not respond via email or answer phones. We switched units which was extremely disorganized and slow response times. They increased the parking fee with no notice, and the building went 3 week with 1 functioning washer! 1 washer with well over 30 residents! Now the elevator has been broken and not functional for 2 months! With handicap residents in building. (My Nieghbor!) We live on the 5th floor, making grocery shopping a hassle as well as laundry since the machines are in the basement! Trust me you will regret signing a lease here.

Hallways smell 24/7. Very negative experience....the management is very poor for these apartments. Aside from it being in the most noisy neighborhood (sirens non stop) and people out late at night that clearly don't work in mornings (that is not in building's control).. the apartment charges you insane fees when you move out which are unlawful; even if you left your apartment clean. The landlord/management is a nightmareI would not recommend this place to anyone. If I had the money to take them to court, I would have. (stay away from this place) I *rarely*write bad reviews!

Worst experience I would say yet.... of living in many apartment buildings. When I moved out of this apartment, I called the landlord months prior to let him know I was moving out.... no response back for weeks. I also was paying for the apartment and a new apartment that I had moved into. When we left, we left the apartment exactly the way it was when I moved in. We dusted and swept floors and made sure the refrigerator was cleaned out and empty. We cleaned counters in kitchen and left the apartment clean- as it always was when I lived there. The blinds (on one panel) were broken, and that is something that happened when I lived there. I received a bill from this place for over $800--- claiming that it was for "renovation cost" - painting, getting new blinds and cleaning costs...and I did not receive a deposit (which I was not expecting, but I certainly wasn't expecting a huge bill for nothing) I did not deserve this. Insane. I would never recommend this place to any friends or family. Horrible. People are constantly smoking in the hallways, it smells terrible. Yet a clean tenant who always paid early and on time gets fined and never even a courtesy phone call when I called them. Horrible place to live.

Dirty, smells like pee, and the garage is usually full of trash. Apartment quality is middling at best. Package theft is a huge problem, and try as they might, management has been unable to implement any kind of long-term fix. The one pro is that the landlord is always courteous and responsive.

An affordable place in a great area. The building is a converted old hotel, with the associated advantages and disadvantages. Plenty of charm, and quite cozy, while maintenance is a bit inconsistent. Yes, it could be cleaner, and more organized, but it was not anywhere as bad as the negative reviews suggest. I lived there for over three years, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
