I absolutely loved it here!! All of the workers are so kind and generous, and the atmosphere here is very calming and warm! The food here is delicious as well, and you can definitely tell it’s made with care!

Google
Potentially the most underrated coffee shop in State College! I really appreciated that they had a parking lot, as well as a parking garage right there. The line was long (I waited about 30 mins) but it was moving fairly quickly considering! They have a super wide menu, so it was very hard to decide what to get. They are on the pricier side, but worth it once you taste it! I got a caprese panini and their rose cardamom latte. Both were incredible and the portion sizes were large. Their soft pretzels looked delicious, and I can’t wait to come back and try a signature frappe. The workers were all very friendly, despite how crazy it was in there! I did struggle to find seating at first but eventually found a spot to sit down and enjoy my food.

Google
Incredible date brunch with my wife. The food and coffee were amazing. It was our first time visiting the Sowers Harvest Cafe. I purchase lattes regularly at little coffee shops around town or when I travel. This cocoa dusted mint hot latte was the best drink I’ve had in years. The grillatilla was new for us and it was delicious. The homemade pretzel was also fantastic. Their employee Charlie was also a godsend - helping us with recommendations and clearing our table. Parking is a little tight, but we found a place to park close to their entrance.

My husband and I went for breakfast and were surprised. We weren’t expecting much, but we left impressed. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was inviting, and what stood out most was how well the team worked together. You could see and feel the harmony among the staff. Despite being very busy, the service was exceptional, our food was ready in under 10 minutes. Best breakfast spot in SC!

Google
One of the best spots for breakfast, burgers (Thursdays only), and pretzels in town! My wife loves their cafe beverages, and the cozy space is tight but has decent seating. Great ambiance!

Google
The place is amazing. The ambiance is perfect for any time of the day. The people at the counter are really sweet. I got a pretzel, which was huge and soft— really great. It’s a little pricey but worth it.

Google
Wow! What a place. Located in a nondescript older apartment building, facing the side street-fed parking lot, you’re transported into a calming and comfortable cafe. Impeccably decorated and impeccably clean, you’re offered tons of healthy and fresh breakfast and lunch options with loads of locally sourced ingredients. Service is efficient and friendly. Soft pretzels - large ones - are made fresh constantly. No stale food here. Fresh fruit, local eggs, local bread. Everything made to perfection. Great find.

Google
With a nearly 5 star review average I had high hopes. The dingy ceiling tiles and the Jesus quotes and hymnals depressed me. And this is my overpriced $10 avocado toast, after drowned it in black pepper to class it up (I had them removed the feta cheese; hardly any vegan options otherwise ).

Yelp
The food is always great. Service is always friendly, and food comes out without delay. Staff is attentive even when restaurant is really busy. There is a ramp for wheelchairs.

Yelp
The food in service at this place is amazing. For starters they were packed. I showed up right at lunch but have a feeling they're packed like this all the time. The line was long, but they moved people through. Got people their food, efficiently, and all with a smile on their face. They had amazing gluten-free bread. I was able to have a breakfast sandwich that tasted so delicious next time. I'm in State College. I will be stopping here for sure.

Yelp
Cute, homey coffee and breakfast spot right by campus. The star was the garlic parm pretzel, so soft, flavorful and huge. We also had coffee and sandwiches, while we used the conversation cards to talk to our teen, who is usually head in her phone. I think it's Pennsylvania Dutch and everything was being made fresh. It was fun watching them make things that looked like fresh blueberry compote.

Yelp
This is a small little cafe across from campus. It is very warm and inviting and despite the size has enough seating options both inside and out. The food was very good. I had the bacon and egg sandwich with chipotle mayo with a vanilla latte. Both were delicious. My wife and daughter had a cheese omelette that was nothing special, just pretty standard. Service was very good, they were kind and on top of our order. Overall this is a great breakfast place when in State College.

Yelp
Amazing food & Ambiance. Love this place. Was closed when we first went to visit. Glad we came back. Fascinating to watch pretzels being made from scratch and the rest of the kitchen. It was busy but well staffed and operating like a well oiled machine. Did I mention the food was great? Wish we lived closer. jealous of the locals.

Yelp
A must visit if in State College, it is unlike other restaurants I have been to. Wonderful, unique ambiance with some big wooden tables, wooden bars, a piano, and signs that extol the virtues of building a community, and old timey puzzles to play while waiting. It does all this without feeling tacky or kitschy. The food is either good or fine, I expected a bit more flavor from the sandwiches. The sauces on the sandwiches are too much mayonnaise for me, but somehow the sauces don't add that much flavor.. Cashiers are kind and fairly quick. Operating hours are strange- closed Mondays? Closed at strange hours, there have been a few times when I have visited and it was not open.

Yelp
Trying burger day, today. The sower burger is our choice today and the wife chose greek salad w/grilled chicken. The burger was amazeballs, cooked perfectly and the toppings were very fresh, the BBQ sauce was spot on. The wife's salad was huge, very fresh and filled with plenty of grilled chicken. The chicken tasted amazing!

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch while visiting Penn State. It was excellent! I ordered the full French Toast with strawberries and blueberries. They had other topping offerings like whipped cream and pecans. I also ordered a hot chai tea latte. My husband ordered a sandwich and my son ordered an omelette. They both looked amazing. It was a small, cozy, & cute cafe. The staff were very friendly. The reason for the 4 rating instead of 5 is that the cafe was so popular there was standing room only. We were getting nervous we were not going to have a seat when they called our name but at the last minute, a small family got up to leave.

Yelp
Top notch! Lovely little spot in an unlikely row of shops in a parking area. The vibe is a mix of PSU students, others working in the area, and visitors to the town/campus. Order at the counter from a mega wide variety listed on a trifold menu or blackboard. Egg sandwiches to a Hawaiian salad! The yogurt parfait lets you choose fruit, blueberries and mango today. The egg sandwiches with bacon comes on a pretzel roll. People are so nice and traffic moves in and out quickly.

Yelp
We were headed out of State College and needed a good cup of coffee for the road and lunch to eat in the car. We were SO lucky to find Sowers! The staff was lovely, the food great as was the coffee and a huge bonus for me, it was clean! These folks care and it is so apparent.

Leah D.

Yelp
Went to Sowers around lunchtime, the line was out the door, but it was worth the wait. There is not much seating. I ordered the Greek salad and shared a pretzel, both were delicious! I recommend trying their homemade pretzels, so warm and amazing texture!

Yelp
Food was super good, my mom and I both got french toast and it was delicious. Service was pretty quick and they allow you to pick your seating inside or outside. Super cute spot. They also allow you to pick whole or half servings which I like

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop whenever I visit Penn State. Love the environment and the atmosphere here
google avatar

Yelp
Nowhere to sit, no space, no room to stand, over 1000 decibels more kitchen room than sitting room at a SIT DOWN restaurant. $15.00 for a sandwich very expensive $75.00 for three sandwiches and three smoothies. Service is good but definitely does not make up for the flaws about this restaurant. Waited so long for my food that my smoothies turned to juice.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in downtown State College! Whenever I walk in, I am always greeted by very welcoming and friendly staff. The atmosphere is very homey, the perfect place for a cute date or just to chill with friend. The menu on the blackboard is also filled to the edges with different sandwiches (including vegetarian friendly options), salads, breakfast items, tea, and coffee. Look out for the limited seasonal items too! I usually like to try a new item every time I go, but the first time I went, I got their Vegetable Pesto Panini. It was warm, crispy, packed with pesto flavor, and oozing with delectable cheese. Simply the perfect sandwich so to speak. Their Pesto-port Egg Sandwich on brioche is not bad, but I would go for their panini instead because it's larger and more flavorful. I'm also a sucker for the sweet and savory profile, so I tried their Aloha Burger that included a perfectly cooked beef patty, bbq sauce, provolone, bacon, tomato, mixed greens, and a whole slice of pineapple. This was honestly one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. It was incredibly juicy and the sweetness from the pineapple complemented the savory patty so well. Totally recommend!! Some other items I tried is their Maui BBQ Chicken Sandwich which was decent. But I probably won't get it again just because I prefer the other items better. Their seasonal item Pumpkin Spice French Toast is my least favorite item simply because there was a huge lack in flavor and overly expensive (~$16 for 4 half slices of bread). Overall, I definitely recommend coming here!! They have soooo many options for everybody, and their freshly made pretzels are apparently legendary too (next on my list to try). They also only have burgers on Thursdays, so be sure to go on that day!

Yelp
Food is so fresh & tasty! Many different sandwich combinations to notice your tastebuds and a soft pretzel always seems to be a good start or an easy take home snack!

Matt W.

Yelp
My Hawaiian Grillatilla (omelette sandwich) was delicious as was the cup of light roast coffee. Service was friendly and inviting. The ambiance - what can I say? I met my favorite artist (Kacey Musgraves) who happened to be there at the same time (Kacey is in town for a concert at the Bryce Jordan Center) Thank you, Sowers!!

Yelp
Sowers is a hidden gem in State College. This Mennonite-run restaurant is one of the few in State College that serves actual quality food (not just good food, which it also is!). The workers are all so nice and willing to accomodate. Everything is made fresh and with the best ingredients and you never have to worry about quality or cleanliness. They have some fun daily specials, such as pretzels and Thursday burgers, and they run some neat events like a "write night" where they give out free snacks and coffee/tea and encourage people to come write their papers/dissertations/reports after hours. While many (most?) come for coffee/breakfast, my favorites are their sandwiches, which they let you order any time of day!

Yelp
Loveee this place!! My favorite restaurant in downtown State College!! The food is amazing and always cooked daily with fresh, local ingredients which makes a huge difference. They also offer numerous GF, DF, and vegetarian options. They have everything from French Toast, bakery items, to smoothies and specialty drinks, to sandwiches and their grillatillas!! But you have to get the PRETZELS. They're absolutely TO DIE FOR. They make them fresh in house and they're incredible. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. The staff is so kind and the service is amazing. You order at the counter and they call your name, but the food always comes out fast. It's a cute little café but it's my favorite place.

Yelp
There are not many 5 star eateries walking distance from PSU, but I have to say, this spot meets the grade. While you will likely have to wait in line and seating is limited (especially in bad weather), it is worth the effort. My family had a mixture of lunch and breakfast options. All of our coffee selections were excellent and unique...I had a meat omelet in a tortilla, my wife had a specialty pumpkin muffin, and my daughter had a chicken pesto sandwich...all were very good. All of the entree we saw around us looked great as well. Ambiance is eclectic like you would expect from a college coffee joint. The tables were clean and the staff were nice and attentive. We can't wait to come back and try other menu choices.

Yelp
Have to say by far a little hidden treasure in Pennsylvania. Was searching for brunch area and truly was excited to find a place that has variety and options for gluten-free ,vegetarian, vegan. They were busy but service was quite fast. Came with my family they ordered southwestern omelette and garlic Turkey egg Sandwich which they raved about . I had their soft pretzel and matcha , must say has to now be my favorite by far. Their matcha selection is amazing and truly can tell this establishment cares about their craft!

Yelp
We stopped by for brunch and enjoyed our meal. The paninis and pretzels were definitely our favorite items. Buffalo Chicken Panini: Very evenly grilled bread paired with juicy yet caramelized chicken. The sauces played well together and weren't too sour. Lastly, the kale gave the sandwich a nice crunch. French Toast: Well cooked. The whipped cream seemed like it was made in house which added a nice touch to the dish. - Chocolate Chip: A lot of chocolate chips (too much). - Strawberry: Loved the subtle sweetness of the fresh strawberries. Pesto-Port Egg Sandwich: Good, but wouldn't order again. The flavors of the sandwich weren't too special. Pretzels: Freshly made! They were buttery and soft without being oily. We even bought another one to eat later.

Yelp
Such an awesome spot!!! We had the best little breakfast here on our way out of town. Everything was quick and fresh. The drinks were delightful and the parfaits were light yet filling. Would definitely stop here if you're looking for a great breakfast spot!

Julie C.

Yelp
This is such a hidden gem of State College! The atmosphere is absolutely lovely and the coffee was the best around. I loved getting away from the normally crowded areas of College and Beaver to have a relaxing breakfast here. The staff was amazing and seeing all of the friendly interactions was uplifting. I will definitely be back when I am back in town.

Yelp
Beautiful place tucked away in State College. Friendly service and very fresh food. The menu includes a great variety of sandwiches and salads, creatively combined with excellent flavors together, my buffalo chicken panini was fabulous.

Yelp
We have been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and the reviews and pictures of the food were quite enticing. We finally got the opportunity on Saturday. The ordering process is a little archaic hence the wait time to order was about twenty minutes. However once we placed our order, the food came out in a timely manner. We were disappointed with the food given the high rating of this establishment. I ordered a harvest salad which had turkey, feta cheese, apples, dried cranberries and pecans atop a bed of spinach. I will give them credit for the amount of toppings on the salad but I would have preferred a more equal ratio of spinach to toppings and more varying vegetables such as onion, cucumbers and tomatoes. I was not thrilled with the turkey. It was an average deli turkey sliced medium thickness. I was expecting it to be an oven roasted turkey since the restaurant self describes as serving a naturally healthy cuisine. My husband ordered the greek omelette and it was fine, but a bit bizarre as it had black olives in it and not kalamata. Not sure why but it would have been an improvement with kalamata olives. Lastly, the prices are quite steep for a college town and the quantity of food. We really had high hopes for this place, but it was a letdown and sadly we do not need to go back and give it another try.

Yelp
Great food and an even better staff! Get a hot coffee and appreciate their latte art!. Such a nice place... no wonder my son Beau says this is one of his favorite places to go!

Matt W.

Yelp
Showed up #1 for breakfast and looked good so gave it a shot. Unique menu and good healthy options. We both had omelets that were very good. They had 3 foreign options for coffee - I had the Honduras blend and it was good. The mixed berry muffin was unique and was loaded with berries (unlike a lot of muffins that look good on the outside but are all bread on the inside). The place is convenient in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Service is very friendly as advertised but you do order at the counter. It's slightly larger than an average Starbucks on the inside and has plenty of outdoor seating - it's pickup at the counter and doesn't take reservations. Overall good experience and it lived up to the high rating. It's a solid

Yelp
I'm town for work, outstanding restaurant! The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious! We will be back next time we are in town.

Yelp
Great service, amazing food, great chai latte. Games are set up around the tables for a casual, non-rushed atmosphere.

Yelp
Very nice people and service was great! The food was not as good as I was told, but the ambiance made up for it

Yelp
My first experience at Sowers Harvest Cafe was last year when I went on Thursday for their famous burgers. I think I got the Aloha Burger and it was quite delicious though messy to eat! I remember it being crowded but the food didn't take too long and I left fairly satisfied. Flash forward a year and I decided it would be fun to take a visiting friend there with my baby for lunch on a Saturday. Boy was that NOT the move. It took us about 20 min of waiting in line to even order, then it took a solid 30 minutes (I was checking the clock as one does with a tired baby) for the food to ever get out to us. My sandwich was disappointingly small for $13. That day really turned me off and I'm not sure I'll go back to SHC anytime soon. I know Saturday is their busy day but you'd think they'd find a new location or something to accommodate the huge crowds and noise levels. There was also a serious lack of seating with many people in small parties taking up larger tables. I definitely advise against going during any kind of busy time if you have a young baby, it was hard to navigate the area with his car seat and him in tow, not even considering the tremendous wait and floppy sandwich that was hard to eat with one hand. Their food is alright but the TL;DR is that it's too expensive for what it is and the ambiance sucks.

Yelp
Delightful little spot for breakfast/lunch in state college Wonderful Variety on the menu... Even though we went for breakfast we were compelled to try the soft pretzel. We highly recommend that. French toast was tasty, coffee divine and the omelette amazing. We will definitely be back again
google avatar

Jeannine M.

Yelp
Great mocha and seriously the best handmade pretzel. The food is fresh and the ingredients used are definitely quality, such as the eggs.
google avatar

Ava M.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch my first morning in State College, and thrilled by our experience here! The man behind the counter very nicely gave us a free pretzel to try since it was our first time, and we will definitely be back for more! Pesto egg sandwich was good and so was chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Hands down the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I dream of this coffee. Looking forward to my next visit to the area and another chance to enjoy the hand crafted perfection they brew up here.

Pauline P.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Everyone looks happy. The produce is very fresh and I love the bottled milk
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Best breakfast in downtown state college area. A little off the beaten path from the rest of downtown, but is a worthwhile venture. Have came here several times, and everything I have tried has been excellent. So many housemade ingredients which is incredibly refreshing. The pretzels are a must try.

Karen F.

Yelp
Very friendly service. The chipotle bacon breakfast sandwich was amazing. Great way to start your day.
google avatar

Aris N.

Yelp
Great place to stop by with a group of friends for a cup of coffee and breakfast. The food are really good, quite unique from other places I have been to. Coffee is not too sweet, which I like. Totally understand why it's one of the most popular cafe in State College.

Norris M.

Yelp
Meh. Really good coffee, mediocre food. The olives in the Greek omelette were just budget brand canned black olives. Might expect that at a diner in the middle of nowhere, but definitely unexpected at someplace known for their breakfasts.
google avatar

L S.

Yelp
Found Sowers from Yelp- Can I say the food was delish! The baked apple slices in the turkey panini was a great touch!

Joel S.

Yelp
Breakfast standouts are the granola parfaits, breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit, and coffees brewed strong, Lunch salads and paninis are all great. From the outside it is in a strip mall but don't let that deter you as once you step inside you immediately realize this is a neighborhood gathering place for students and families alike. Every so often someone sits at the piano and provides free background ambiance. One-of-a-kind locally-owned with locally-sourced ingredients. Delish!
google avatar

Travis M.

Yelp
This place is great. They had a ton of fresh baked gluten free bakery items (cookies, muffin, bread, etc.). At our table, we had the egg sandwich, southwestern omelette and the chicken salad... All were fresh and delicious! The vibe was friendly and the place was clean... Tip: If you plan on eating there, it does get busy so get there a bit early to get a place to sit. They only have a few tables for larger parties so plan accordingly.

Michael Y.

Yelp
This place is the best! The food is homemade, fresh and delicious every time, the service is friendly a, thorough and..... the homemade right out of the oven pretzels are just the cherry on the cake. On our day they were made by Brian who was so nice. Don't be deterred by the long line iquickly and worth the wait.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
The food is good but they are definitely NOT practicing social distancing. We waited outside for our food because it was too crowded and most didn't have face masks.
google avatar

Beth P.

Yelp
We were taking a college tour journey and when checking out Penn State it was also time for lunch We stopped at Sowers Harvest Cafe. The high schooler has a egg sandwich, the dad had an omelette, and the mom had a salad. We bought a pretzel for the road. They are focussed on well sourced food from the surrounding community. I want to say that the staff was lovely in every way and very welcoming. The place is spotlessly clean. I am a huge tea drinker and they serve the loose leaf tea in a French press with an adorable little three minute hour glass so you knew when to plunge the strainer. They are also ecologically aware. We are glad we got to stop in!
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I love Sower's! The veggie pesto panini is to die for. Like i look forward to it so much. They also have fresh pretzels which are fantastic & very unique, they are a bit sweeter than a typical soft pretzel. If you are there at closing and they have extra pretzels they will give you one for free which is really sweet of them! Everyone there is very kind & one time there was a piece of chicken in my veggie pesto panini and they refunded my entire order which was really considerate :) the only reason I dont give Sower's 5 stars is only because of their limited hours! i wish they were open a little bit later in the day & on Sunday's, but they're not. Also it can get very crowded in there which is a good thing in terms of positive energetic vibes, but it can make it hard to find a table to eat at.
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
Sower's Cafe is my favorite spot for coffee or lunch dates. Ever since I have gone gluten free I have sadly accepted the inevitability of constantly ordering salads, but no need here! They have a delicious array of gluten free paninis. Portion sizes are generous. You are getting your money's worth. You can smell their teas before you order one, wso adorable. (See my photo) The atmosphere is cute and cozy. My favorite part about this place is the service. They see serving customers as more than just a job, it is a way for them to benefit the community. They serve well, with visible joy.
