SOZAI CHICKEN

This was my first time trying this restaurant out. Whenever I see a new place I go try that. I took the burger with chicken thigh. I wish they had some sauce or something on the bun. It's bascically fried chicken piece on a bun with a leaf of lettuce. It was so dry. May be the authentic Japanese cuisine dish is that dry I dont know. The main problem is not the taste. The chicken that came out of the fryer was undercooked. It was PINK (look at my pictures) I would like to give them another chance and if I like it I will definitely update my review and rating.

Very clean place and friendly staff. The karaage and wings are good and juicy, though wish it had a little more flavor. Not a lot of stuff on their menu, I feel like bento boxes and would sell well and would allow for a variety in a meal. (After thought, they have the custom meal but it is in-store only) Hope this place strives!

Really tasty, authentic Japanese fried chicken and rice dishes. I have been dreaming of a good Katsu curry to rival what I’ve had in places like LA. Sozai has done it. I had the bento box and fried chicken curry bread. Will be eating here regularly!

Tried for the first time tonight. Was helped greatly by the staff since I didn't know what to order. And it was so delicious! I will be back!

I came here for lunch and got a bento box. The quantity of the food was large and service was quick. The spicy gravy was amazing, I wish I had some more of it.

Amazing service, and the food was made fresh right in front of me. We went with the Karaage, green salad and some rice. Washed down with some Ramune soda. I can't wait to go back and try the Udin and rice bowls.

This is my second time visiting this location. They were out of the first item I ordered, so I opted for the curry rice with fried chicken breast. The rice and curry were good. The chicken needed a bit more seasoning. Something was missing. Will certainly try other items on the menu. Would recommend trying them out.

Definitely worth traveling out to try! 10/10 for both the fried chicken and service was great too. As a small shop with a focused menu, it's no surprise they're good at what they specialize in.

Very happy! Great food. Very good service. Welcoming and kind staff. We tried two bento. Katsu with red salad. Karaage with orange salad. Each bento was fresh: hot chicken and chilled vegetables. This take away restaurant is straight forward and clean. Friendly ambiance. Food was tasty, very nutritious and serving with good portions. We like the balance in the bento.

Great little to-go place with delicious chicken. I ordered a bento with karage , Cole slaw, and gyoza. The chicken was very fresh and juicy. We also tried chicken curry bread, which is deep fried bread filled with chicken curry. SO GOOD.

The service was exceptional, and the chicken was served piping hot, bursting with flavor, and perfectly seasoned. Each bite was tender and juicy, making for a truly enjoyable meal.

The service is great. They are kind too. I had the chicken Katsu curry. It was delicious. I liked their egg salad sandwich too. I will go back and eat their karaage. Small, clean, take out only.

Reminded me of my mom's Karaage chicken. Tasted like good homemade meals. Not overly oily and lightly seasoned.I tried all vegetables side dishes and I liked that cabbage coleslaws the most. The staff was very friendly when I walked in to pick up foods. The only cons is I feel as little over priced for the portion size.

It's a small place, quaint, no room to dine in at all. Nice customer service.. VERY dedicated. I will pass on the wings next time or order them without sesame seeds. The breast was simply divine. My goodness. My favorite was the chicken curry bun. The homemade bun was remarkable. I wish they had more, I ordered the very last one.

First time here. Love having so many choices for the Bento Box. You can choose the side salad, the sauce & the protein.

When I was younger, my mother had a recipe book that covered all the different ways you can fry chicken. There was one page for every state in the Union: Carolinas, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas to name a few. In fact, there were some great ideas for the fried chicken I had never tried before, which is one of the staple dishes of the American South. The author went on to say, its origins lie in Scottish immigrants who arrived in what is today the United States centuries ago. While this book was seen as the holy grail on how to cook fried chicken back in the day, I always felt deep in my heart there something was missing. Ironically, it wasn't until my next door neighbors from Yokohama introduced me to two of those missing chapters, one of which is Yakitory, and the other is Karaage. The latter Karaage, is Japanese style fried chicken that is so delicious, you have to taste it first-hand to believe it for yourself. One would think that the best way to enjoy this delicious entrée would be to book an expensive flight to Tokyo. However, instead of spending a fortune on airfare, you can just drive to nearby Farmington Hills, and enjoy some very delicious karaage at Sozai Chicken. The vast majority of chicken used in Japanese cuisine, comes from the thighs, as its sweet and tender. At Sozai, you can buy multiple sizes of karaage, and katsu, which is white breast meat. They also offer Japanese BBQ sauce that you can add to the katsu, to really give it an over the top punch. One entrée they serve is "Curry Rice With Fried Chicken." If you love curry rice like I do, this is on my list for the next time I visit Farmington Hills. Although Sozai Chicken is really a fast food approach to Karaage, I have a feeling it's going to become very popular. The really cool thing is that you have the ability to customize your meal accordingly. Hopefully, they will expand to places like Ann Arbor in the future, where this type of food would be a big hit with the college crowd. In the meantime, enjoy this place to the fullest.

Very clean and bright atmosphere. Carry out only, but it sounds like they have outdoor dining for when the weather is good. They have a self order iPad and also someone that takes your order at the desk. The menu seems allow a few different combinations of rice, bread or salad with their chicken. The orders come with a variety of pickled vegetables are all kind of interesting and tasty to go with the curry we ordered. This place is located in a shopping center, but it's a little bit difficult to spot. It's next to a couple other restaurants. It has convenient parking, but the parking spaces are very tight so be careful of other drivers.

Very tasty food. The owners are very kind and polite. The bento boxes offer a nice variety of flavors.

Excellent karaage and gyoza prepared to order, never off-the-shelf. Just like in Japan.

This under the radar place is a true gem. Everything is prepared by the owner who is also a dietician. Ingredients are all very high quality and the place is incredibly clean. The Japanese curry bowls are spot on what A true Japanese curry should be. In my opinion, the wings are the best in all of metro Detroit. Try them with Bachan's Japanese BBQ sauce and thank me later. You'll have to provide your own Bachan's though. The only thing I would change about this place would be to expand their sauce offerings. While the few they have are all very good, their wings really shine with a sweeter sauce like Bachan's or Mr. Yoshida's. This place could really take off with some added marketing of their wings.

The proliferation of Asian fried chicken shops is a welcome sight. Sozai is Japanese fried chicken. Thankfully, Sozai opened with much less fanfare as, for example, Bonchon just down the street. I say thankfully because Bonchon's reputation was damaged by its failure to satisfy the crowds. I ordered the Karaage chicken thighs, Aurora spicy sauce (served on the side) with a side of the egg salad. The chicken is incredibly moist and crisp. The sauce was not really spicy, but had a nice flavor. The egg salad was fresh and good. My only complaint is that both were very under-seasoned. Yes, I know, some object to salt. Too bad. Put some salt and pepper on the karaage chicken (and the egg salad which screamed out for salt) and my score would have been 5 star. Personally I would like some Mala seasoning, but that would not be Japanese. Sozai is really good. Just bring some salt.

Very excited to live less than five minutes away from a curry place. Ordered online and service was fast they have a very simple menu here and nailed it . Reminds me of the curry house in California, just to go. I forgot to try some of the healthy sides, so will be back to check them outI can't wait to try some other items like the Bento box. I hope this business succeeds its a nice addition to Farmington Hills!

This place sits back in a strip mall off of 12 mile but don't let that fool you. The food here is awesome! So fresh and tasty. When you walk in you place your order yourself on a touch pad and then they make it fresh right in front of you. Service was very fast and friendly. We ordered the curry rice with fried chicken, chicken katsu don, and an order of the chicken gyoza. Everything was so flavorful and good. The only thing I was bummed about is we didn't try more things. Definitely coming back though!

Carry out ONLY! Japanese chicken shack tucked away between sushi ko and subway. Blink and you'll miss it. Ordered 5 pieces rice and extra yellow side which is egg salad. Tasted as good as it looked. They have a special today chicken katsudon which I will be coming back to try. Some katsu sandwiches r also on the menu. Reminds me of my trips to Japan. Great food, worth a try. Maybe next summer they could put small 2 chair cafe table outside.

Delicious chicken! Curry rice bowl with 3 Katsu for my husband. He was full and the curry was so delicious! My daughter loved the chicken Katsu with the aurora sauce. I didn't see the Katsudon special on the sign on the side! Make sure to look around before ordering on the kiosk if you go inside. Nice and friendly staff and yummy food. We are def coming here again - maybe bi-weekly. ;)

Had the Vegetable Curry Rice with Karaage. Was really good. Very satisfying. Only thing keeping it from five stars is the fact that I think there were 2 carrot slices, a piece of onion and no broccoli in my vegetable curry. Will order again.

Small place but big flavor. Came in twice so far and I know I'll be back. Staff is really nice and food is simple and delicious

Katsu curry is phenomenal. My grandparents and my mom lived in Japan for 20+ years and it's been so hard to find something comparable according to my mom. This place is fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and it's quick! Curry is delicious, honestly it's so good I haven't had anything else lol. If my grandparents and mom love it and say it's close to home then no other opinion matters!! Love this spot! I've had it 3 times this past month.

The chicken is fine but there really are multiple better options within 5 minutes of this business.

the food is cooked fresh to order, and tastes delicious, the staff is kind and it's quick, even while being made to order. fresh and delicious for very reasonable price. we will be coming back next time we're in Farmington Hills. it's fantastic!

We had 3 different dishes on our first visit and everything was good. The staff was very friendly as well. Note that there is only takeout available.

Food is fresh and delicious! Highly recommend! I need to try more from the menu but the karaage is so good, I have to order it every time.

Don't usually leave to many reviews but this place is great so had to give them props. Food was delicious and the customer service is excellent. As someone else mentioned infinitely better than the overhyped bonchon.

Great spot for a quick bite especially for the price and the chicken is the best. Also excellent service
