15 Bay Area Bars and Restaurants for Unexpected Flavors | Eater

"SP 2 was built for groups small and large. The restaurant has a full menu of shareable plates and entrees, an expansive patio, and a lodge-like indoor dining room. Pair a Highland Park with the happy hour pork-belly popcorn and Holy Trinity Chimichurri to bring out the robust flavors of each. And don’t forget to buy the kitchen crew a beer for $2." - Gabriel Schicchi

The place is generally very happening every time I have passed by so finally tried it. I do not appreciate that they make their waitresses wear skimpy clothes, especially more so in the winter. Like why!? You will do just fine with having them warmly dressed. I would give this place a 5 star if not for this. I did love the cocktail I got, it was a coffee one and so good. There was a huge block of ice in the middle and then the drink around it. So no ice chunks weirdly coming in your mouth, and the drink was so smooth and tasty!

Google
Amazing experience. We were walking around and passed by this place. Unfortunately, they were not open at this time, but we came back during opening hours. So glad we came back because we would’ve spent the entire night here. It was fantastic. The stimulating conversation from Link, Don and Lex with their input on what to see and what to visit while in San Jose was phenomenal. Will 100%… no will 110% come back here. The food superb, the drinks phenomenal and the atmosphere perfection. Highly recommend.

Google
Consider this place more of a bar than a restaurant. Place was simple but cute. Had an open floor concept to it. Food: it was okay. Not the best, but it wasn’t the worst. Cocktails were well made. They delivered what and how they needed to deliver! 🙃 Service: Super friendly staff! However, cleaning the kitchen (spraying, wiping, brooming, mopping, etc) while still cooking food orders cannot be sanitary!!!! 🫠 Ambience: DJ was on point! Definitely would go back on a late spring or summer day/night just for cocktails. Parking: available either in nearby structures or meter street parking.

Unfortunately, they had the worst customer experience I have EVER experienced. Plus, you can see men using the restroom because the door is WIDE-open. When I tried approaching ownership about this, they allowed the bouncer to AGGRESSIVELY kick me out and accused me of trespassing when I was a paying customer. Honestly, truly unbelievable and indescribable behavior. If you choose to attend, that is a personal choice that I cannot understand.

Google
Since the day this place opened. It has been a delight. Definitely on the list of some of the best happy hour in downtown San Jose. Consistency is king and with this spot consistency is on point. Everything from the sticky ribs to their warm burrata cheese, the food is great. I understand there. Chef is very talented and is indeed keeping the bar high. Happy hour drinks are a good deal, and if you get there early enough, you can find a seat at the bar or outside on the covered patio. I’m glad they’ve survived and are still doing great things.

Don't bother to go here! Our brunch experience was horrible. Where do I start! We were given dinner menu first despite confirming about the menu. Service is super slow, our orders weren't taken for the longest time. The waitress forgot to get our mains. Food lacked seasoning and tasted bland. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Had planned to enjoy Friday evening with friends out, but due to a large group celebrating a birthday, despite having reservations, we ended up in corner seats, which wasn't very enjoyable. The food was way below average . Coming to parking there were many street parking available 5-10min walking distance.

Google
Food was okay. I'm disappointed in the quality. I used to come here nearly every week. The oysters were flavorless. The ribs... What happened?!? I used to order 2-3 servings if these to take home. The pork belly was disappointing. The burrata and beet salad were the best part. Chicken wings were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the smokey chili rub. The worst part? It took HALF AN HOUR to get the bill. I wish I were exaggerating. Never again.

Yelp
Came on a Friday night around 7 with a group of friends for dinner and drinks. We had a reservation but didn't really need it and were seated quickly. Our waitress was really nice and took our order pretty soon after we were seated. I shared the calamari pizza which was an unexpected favorite! It had vodka sauce and cheese with calamari on top and I would definitely order it again. Not something I would have thought would be as good as it was but I'd highly recommend it. Other things ordered at our table were the kaarage chicken sandwich, some French fries, Brussels sprouts, and another pizza (Hobbs maybe?). Everything was really delicious !

Yelp
Positives - Really good pizza, tasty tri-tip sandwich. Negatives - Avoid the double quarter pounder. The wagyu looked like it came out of a frozen package. Asked for a different cheese other than the cheddar. Burger arrived with no cheese. Fries were warm at best. Overall meh experience on a slow night.

Yelp
seated outside, waiter was super nice! we brought our two dogs & everyone wanted to give us water LOL ribs - 7/10 not bad, I liked the butt ton of cilantro bc I love cilantro lol; some of the parts had bits of bone (I guess it wasn't cut very cleanly?) cole slaw didn't have sauce so it was just dry veggies & I wasn't really into it waffle - 5/10 texture of this was really strange to me - supposed to be a waffle but only the verrrrrry edges were slightly crispy & everything else was like waffle shaped wet bread? it wasn't bad, but just definitely not was I was expecting at all. raspberry syrup seemed strange so I didn't try it at all, butter was orangey and not in a consistency I would expect butter to be like (was kinda like cake frosting? but it wasn't light like whipped butter) green dragon - 6/10 tasted like candy juice morning lotus - 9.5/10 I have no idea what they made the frozen milk foam out of but it was soooo good lol I kept licking it like a weirdo until it all melted off the ice cube & we mixed it into the drink itself (which, btw, was good both. before and after the milk foam was incorporated) future affairs - 6/10 more candy juice - yknow those lil teeny jellos you get in a big clear plastic jug from the Asian grocery stores? it literally tasted like they opened a billion of the lychee jellos, took out the jello juice, and dumped it in here LOL it was good but just super sweet for me

Yelp
Came to SP2 Communal for a Love Island watch party night, and it was awesome! The bar was themed to Love Island, with flamingo floaties and a backdrop. The Margherita Focaccia was absolutely delicious, and the bartender killed it on the service, even with such a busy night

Yelp
Right downtown, it's such a cute place. There's a parking garage behind it, or you can find street parking. It's right next to the San Pedro Square Market. It has such a cute vibe. Outdoor seating and a bar outside as well. We got there when they opened for brunch so it was pretty empty. Nice and spacious inside. Plenty of bar seating too. The bathrooms were pretty clean, although I found it weird that the mens bathroom was wide open and I could see the urinals as I came out of the bathroom. Don't really want to see someones ass on my way back to my table. Maybe it was just because it was too early that they had the door open. Who knows. The plates are way bigger than I thought they'd be. I loved the mini muffins they gave us when we got their. The michelada was good! Service was good. I think I'll come back to try their dinners.

Yelp
Food was yum and delish. Wished there was more vegetarian options to add this restaurant into my frequency list, but they have enough options to not make a vegetarian alienated by offering only a salad. The cocktails were on point and service was good.

Yelp
BEST BRUNCH IN SAN JOSE! This is a hidden gem. Their Sunday brunch is out of this world. Everything is great - from the potatoes to the pork belly breakfast sandwich to the parfait. The best by far is the waffle so insane. Ignore the 1 star reviews for the bar door people and come get your brunch on.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience here. Nice big spacious place with a fun bar. The staff were very nice. The food came relatively quick and tasted good.

Yelp
So, I came here for my birthday with a group of 10 for my birthday on a Sunday. I enjoy their live music and the ambiance. My party had food next door at San Pedro Market so I brought my Stanley to stay hydrated. My Stanley contained water with ice since San Jose was experiencing another heat wave in July. Upon entering SP2, they shared you are not able to bring my Stanley inside and to leave it in the front. I did. Spent tons of money on drinks. I am sure my large party brought lots of business with all the drink orders. I was having so much fun! The band was great (sorry, I wish I could remember their name) and they kept me dancing. I totally forgot about my Stanley! Forgive me! It was my bday after all :). The next day, I called. Left a voice message. I even reached out to SP2 via Instagram so I can pick up my Stanley. No response. I actually left a few voicemails, showed up at SP2 (during closing time so maybe the timing was off) and communicated with someone via Instagram that they would look for it. The person on Instagram would never follow up after my messaged. I would send another reply message and say, "did you find it?". I am not sure if they ever found it, never looked of it, still have it or it is now officially stolen?!?!?! My Stanley is tan (sand color) with a Wharf to Wharf sticker on it! RIP Stanley. SP2 saves all the water bottles for their underground Stanley market LOL. I really tried to redeem it but SP2 was not cooperative.

Yelp
I came here for happy hour on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised! At 4pm there wasn't much of a crowd there so we were able be seated immediately. We got the ribs, brussel sprouts, and ahi tuna. The ribs and brussel sprouts were 10/10 great presentation and quality for it being a HH item. The ahi tuna was okay, it was a tad bit fishy and not something I'd order again.

Yelp
*Edit: Lowering -2 stars since our server told us all starters were part of HH discount of -$3 off, but upon checking the receipt -- the burrata and soup were charged at full price. Misleading info. Happy Hour runs 4-6p Wed-Fri. We came on a Wed around 5:45p and it was not busy at all. Bites, Starters, Craft Beer on tap, and House Cocktails were all discounted at $3 off. BITES: Oysters on the Half Shell $29.00 (1 dozen = $2.42 / oyster) kumquat-yuzu mignonette -- very fresh. Brussels Sprouts $11.00 crispy bacon, calabrian chili aioli, agave, candied fresno chili, parmigiano reggiano -- I found this dish too sweet / doused in too much oil and sauce, but my friend really liked it. We both liked the way it was cooked; crispy on the edges but tender enough in the center so it wasn't like trying to bite through rocks like at Eureka! lol St. Louis Style Spare Ribs $11.00 (1/2 rack) soy-ginger bbq glaze, cabbage slaw -- Best value on the HH menu, so much food on a full dinner plate! Flavor was great. Arancini Verde $9.00 sun gold tomato, cherry tomato vierge, gouda, mozzarella, parmigiano reggiano, manchego -- Great HH dish, crispy on the outside while soft and savory on the inside without being too salty. The vierge was heavenly! STARTERS: French Onion Soup $6.00 beef demi glacé, brandy, emmental cheese -- We both found this soup WAY too salty. It was a huge glob of cheesey bready mass floating in piping hot soup, and we had to take it out the mass of fat + soaked carbs to cut it w/ fork and knife in order to eat it lol! Would not order this one again. Burrata with Olive Bagna Cauda $12.00 castelvetrano olives, garlic, yuzu -- loved the olives, the cheese was good but basic. nice to have if you have a craving, but pretty easily recreated at home for less without much culinary skills or effort involved. Non-HH Dinner: Wood-fired Pizza - The VIP $25.00 tomato, salametto piccante, 26-month aged gouda, manchego semicurado, grana padano, black truffle honey -- thin and soft center, interesting combo of flavors. Will try the Mushroom Bianca for a white pie next time. MAINS: Prince Edwards Island Mussels $24.00 house sausage, allium, white wine, cream napa valley batard -- This was my favorite dish. The broth was so creamy and flavorful, and the mussels were fully cooked without being overdone. I brought leftovers home, put in fridge and lopped off the fat from top to reheat over the stove later with added bone broth for a lighter version for seconds. Flavors still beautiful even next day! HH DRINKS: HOUSE COCKTAIL The Huggy Bear $13.00 rittenhouse rye, pear purée, brown sugar syrup, walnut bitters -- just ok, kinda watered down. handcrafted by our talented SP2 Bar Team BEER Off Dry Cider - Traditional / Apfelwein $6.00 5.8% ABV * N/A IBU * Stem Ciders -- Good, solid cider. Service: We were seated at Table 63, perhaps bc wait staff has backs facing us at the central console stand, it was sometimes hard to flag down service but otherwise really kind and prompt. Enjoyed the value and variety of flavors, would visit again for Happy Hour!

Yelp
We came across SP2 during the block party last week. San Pedro Square Market was PACKED and we were lucky to have beat the crowds when we got to SP2. Great place for drinks and food! We were seated fairly quickly and the hostess even asked us if we wanted a water bowl for our friend's dog :) What was ordered: + Oysters - I was a little hesitant to order the oysters but they were great! They tasted fresh and came with two different types of sauces. + Pepperoni pizza - I wouldn't say this is a must order but it wasn't bad. The flavor was good but I felt the pizza could have been baked longer. The pieces were very soggy and the cheese would fall right off if you picked it up at an angle. + Lemon hummus - This was very unique and I enjoyed it! They gave ample pita bread and a large serving size of hummus to share. The pickled onions onions on top were really unique and gave the dish a bit of a nice crunch. I think there were some eggplant pieces in there too, which I skipped. + Pork belly buns - LOVED! I was surprised at how much I liked these because sometimes these can be a hit or miss. The bun was prepared well and wasn't soggy or coming apart. The pork belly pieces were glazed with a delicious sauce and came together really well. + Summertime magic - Highly recommend! I was torn between this and another drink and our waitress recommended this one and she was right! It was very similar to a Paloma with a hint of fruit to it. + Tri tip sandwich - The tri tip was really good but it was a bit too much for me as a sandwich. + Risotto - I didn't personally try this but our friends said it was delicious. The salmon that they added looked like it was cooked well, not too dry. + Puppy patty - I can't tell you what it tasted like but the dog sure enjoyed it! Instead of it coming out as one patty, they had it broken up into a few pieces to make it easier for the dog to eat. All in all, it's a great place to come with your friends and dog(s) to hang out! The service did get a bit slower towards the end of our meal but the place was starting to get packed so I can see why they were more scattered.

Yelp
Yummy, inexpensive, great service, very relaxed, did breakfast but will be back for other Will do it again soon

Yelp
Been here a couple of times, most of the time it's for a couple of drinks. It gets pretty busy Friday and Saturday nights, but I feel that it's typical. I didn't even realize they had a food menu! Haven't tried any of the foods, but maybe next time. There's both indoor and outdoor seating options, the outdoor is better for larger groups especially if you're just getting a few drinks.
google avatar

Leila S.

Yelp
This was such a cute place to have brunch with my cousins. The patio is shaded and spacious great for lounging. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I truly am excited yo have my event here. They have an outdoor bar as well as one inside. It's very spacious. The food was superb. I enjoyed the Kobe sliders, the little muffins and ribs. However, the catering menu is different from the brunch menu it was absolutely delicious! It's a fusion of Asian and American cuisine.

Yelp
So inconsistent with the dress code. Glad I didn't spend a dime here. Get it together avoid this place at all cost. Discrimination at its finest. Asked security, "Why can't I wear these shoes..." Security, "we don't make up the rules" Ok so who does? But draws showing with baggy pants are allowed.

Yelp
We came out here with a group of friends. This is an awesome spot with great food and vibe.

Yelp
This place is really Cuuute!! The food is EXCELLENT!!!! Every dish ordered was delicious and the portions were great for sharing. The drinks were outstanding! They were mixed perfectly and weren't overly sweet. The service was on point! The waitress was attentive and friendly. When I asked how a drink was made she was very patient and even had a second drink mixed and didn't charge for the first drink Really, it was a wonderful experience. We can't wait to go back to try more dishes on the menu.

Yelp
This place has such a cool vibe, perfect for hanging with friends. The drinks were amazing, and they had a good selection of drinks. The music was great. It's definitely a fun spot to check out if you're looking for a good time.

Yelp
Was told that our entire group wouldn't be not be served because they found a mess on the floor near us (vomit).
google avatar

Eulix C.

Yelp
This place is such a great vibe! The food was out of this world and the service was amazing. The music was popping and overall, it was a great time and can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Ariel M.

Yelp
They always have good hiphop music, often throwback vibes like Aaliyah which I love. Fun for a night out with friends or a celebration on Friday or Saturday, and a great mimosa deal for brunch; one bottle of champagne for the table for $20 and choice of 2 juices. We did 2 bottles for the three of us. I will say though it's dead on Sunday days until playoffs but if you like it quiet with background music it works
google avatar

Joyce T.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, but staffs are not always available. There is no one to get you to seats. You just have to figure it out yourself. Nice gin tonic

Yelp
So I have a lot of mixed feelings about this place. I came here on a work's reservation, and well, there were a lot of goods, and a lot of bads. Let's start with the goods. One, this place is spacious. Like there's 2 inside and an outside bar with the kitchen inside. Depending on the time, the vibe says it all. I came here at around 8, so the vibes are set to be pretty chill/ dinner type. After 10, it turns into a nightclub. If that's your set, then yeah after 10 works for ya. Now the bads. So with the work reservation, we were given tickets for free drinks. Ahh man, the free drinks were freaking awful. Not good at all. After I wasted my free tickets, I decided to pay for some drinks, and man, HUGE turn around. Shoutout to the blonde bartender though. However, that's sad! Just cuz it's free doesn't mean it has to taste bad. Heck, I even tipped the dude for the free drinks! Ludacris I tell ya. The warmers underneath the patio like seatings were freaking hot. I even took off my sweater and I still felt like a sinner in church. Lastly, the bathrooms are tiny! I am not a big girl, but man, I was struggling on fitting inside the stalls! Sooooo if you're puking at this place, yikes, idk what to say.

Yelp
Awesome drinks and amazing ambience. We came in sharp at 4 for the Happy Hour and stayed till 7ish. Outdoor patio seating has great vibes and is pretty nice. We opted for that. Happy hour menu has limited options but the drinks from the main menu were superb. Food was decent but then I don't expect a whole lot from bar food. As long as drinks are great, ambience rocks and you are having a gala time with friends!!! And SP2 is great on all the points! Special mention to the Ruharb dessert suggested by our Superb server. Best suggestion ever! Highly recommended place!

Yelp
Ronnie was awesome! I wouldn't have stayed if it weren't for you!!!!! Ronnie you were so respectful and made me feel safe!

The vibe was great Drama free Cant wait to come back ?!!

Yelp
This will be my last time at this place been coming here for a while but lately I've been noticing that tequila has been tasting extremely strange the first couple times I didn't say anything until yesterday. I'm sick of them pulling well liquor in premium bottles. Yea I said it. I looked at my boyfriend and asked him if it taste weird gave some to my friend. Definitely not casamigos. A group of ppl next to me said something after hearing me mention and agree the liq tasted off I went back to the bartender and told him what did he serve me and that he didn't taste right this taste like cheap alcohol. He told me to keep looking that I had for me another shot. This is the oldest in the book I'm not done and this is happening more often than not I know after 1 AM people are pretty drunk and they don't notice the difference before those people who like to come out and have a nice nightcap. This is beyond. Disgusting I obviously have the money so if I'm paying the price, I deserve to get what I'm paying for.

Yelp
Maybe Downtown San Jose isn't my scene anymore, but I can't let my personal feelings get in the way of giving an honest review. I think my only problem with this place was the seating. I didn't get to take any pictures, but if you check out other Yelpers reviews, you will see what I mean. I feel the benches with the tables are a little too far apart to have a good conversation, especially while music is playing behind the wall in San Pedro Square. The food was decent and I guess they have a rotating menu. We got the blooming onion, which I felt was a little too hard, but the sauce was good. The hot sauce for the wings was fire. I also got a Mexican Lager, Valle and I believe a 21st Amendment IPA called Live Free or Die Brewed? It was a fruity IPA and yummy. This place was also conveniently along a parking garage so parking wasn't too hard to find. Our waitress was also very pleasant and consistent with checking in on us as well and was very friendly. Sorry, I don't remember her name :( Overall, I will probably be back, but not for a while, but if you're looking for a trendy place, this is probably for you

Yelp
Food was amazing and a fun atmosphere great place to celebrate with a large party. Will definitely go again

Yelp
I'd been to SP2 once before (at night), but it's a wayyy chiller vibe during the day. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and found the place relatively empty. My friends and I grabbed a table on the (very pleasant) patio and were immediately approached by our server. She must have been new because she hadn't tried most of the cocktails, but we ended up ordering the New Havana and the Perfect Pair. I absolutely LOVED the New Havana (so creamy and delicious), but Perfect Pair wasn't great (too sweet). For food, we ordered a dozen Oysters on the Half Shell (very good), Heirloom Tomato (decent, I liked to goat cheese), Burrata (my favorite of all the items), and Shrimp Ceviche (good but not amazing, had a nice kick to it). Overall though, we loved the relaxed atmosphere and would return!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Came for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. There's no wait at all so it'd be good for a group. There's a dj inside so it was a bit loud but outside seating was lovely. They also had these little bute sized muffins set out. Would recommend!

Yelp
The food and drinks are really good. The service is impeccable very nice and relaxed ambient.

Yelp
Jonathon - need I say more? Jonathon, the greatest bartender to ever live he's so kind, soul compassionate, always looking out for people and their best interest but more importantly, their safety. Bailey, his coworker, the two of them are, as they say: "the dream team". I've never had a better experience at a bar than with these two angels. Thank you for everything you do, your service is appreciated.

Yelp
Zero stars. Worst service ever. Do not go. The manager tonight was a total a-hole. She was the worst and I hope the owners read this. I'm going to make sure that anytime someone mentions downtown SJ, avoid.
google avatar

Yelp
You have to wait a long time in line to get in. It's already fun when you're inside listening to music
google avatar

Jo P.

Yelp
Still one of my fav spots to chill downtown. I love the vibe and quality of drinks and service. Ceviche was a little bland for me as I like mine with a bit more kick but still tasty. The chips were sturdy enough to handle the ceviche and not fall apart. They were also pretty addicting. The wings were delicious - crispy and tender in the inside- not overly drenched. The drinks always a hit. We had two different bartenders and each one took their time. I also want to shout out to the staff. I misplaced my credit card and went back to search for it. The bar staff and manager helped look and were totally attentive and professional. (It was a Sunday evening and the place was packed). I really appreciate their help and going above and beyond.

Yelp
My first time here and it was definitely a great experience! We had reservations initially for outdoor but since it was cold, they were able to accommodate us by sitting us inside, which was super nice because they were packed and busy. We ordered the Brussels, which was delicious and had a nice kick to it. The ceviche was also really good, fresh and a little spicy! We ordered 2 pizzas, I only tried one.. which was the mushroom Bianca, it was covered in arugula (yay!) and had mushrooms, soooo good! Too heavy on the cheese for my liking but nonetheless, it was still good. The chicken wings were OK, the outside was decent, not a whole lot of flavor but no flavor on the inside. Price wasn't bad either, we ordered all the food, 3 drinks, 8 shots, and it came out to $311 with tax. Pretty good! It does start getting really busy around 9PM as it kind of is like a lounge as well. So be prepared for a line if you're coming here later in the evening.
google avatar

Betty N.

Yelp
I made a reservation for Sunday brunch as I wasn't sure how packed it would be and we had a party of 7. Turns out that wasn't anything to be concerned about as there was barely anyone there. We got to enjoy the lovely weather while sitting on the patio. Seating was a large L-shaped bench, which made it easy to kick back with our feet up and even eat with the dishes in our laps lol rather than hunching over the table. They started us off with complimentary mini muffins. The brunch menu is extremely limited. But as my friend pointed out, it makes for easier decisions. I got the sunny-side eggs Benedict with avocado instead of bacon. We loved the English muffin's fluffiness. Flavor was a little bland to me but portion was worth the price. We also ordered mimosas for the table which we got to mix ourselves. This place wouldn't be my first choice for brunch but it's easy for a big group. It is hidden around the corner of San Pedro Square in DTSJ, within walking distance from the main parking garage.

Yelp
I am a disabled veteran and (unnamed) university faculty. I was passingby around 10:00-11:00pm on a Friday night, when my wife had to use the restroom; so we decided to stop in. It looked pretty crowded and we had heard the name before. I was stopped at the door and blatantly disrespected because I have tattoos. I was then told tattoos were against their dress code. Some sort of supervisor was called and interviewed me about the nature of my tattoos and then permitted me to enter only after a pretty thorough search/pat down by another employee. Even then, I was followed and stared down by security as I escorted my wife to the restroom and then left. I've spent the last 15 years earning a Ph.D and a purple heart. I never, ever want anything special, but this was outlandishly discriminative and disrespectful.

Yelp
Came here 30 minutes until closing on a weekday night, and I was surprised that there were two parties that came in after us. I didn't know they were close to closing, but the hosts welcomed us in and the bartenders made drinks for us very quickly. I did not try any food here, just some quick drinks, but I can definitely imagine that this place would be crowded and lively during the weekends. There's a great ambience and I think the design is super open. I went with the green dragon because it was a unique drink and I felt like I couldn't get it anywhere else. Gin is not my favorite alcohol, but you could barely taste it in here. I felt like I was eating an Asian salad, or a sushi roll, because it has wasabi and sesame oil. Although those things might sound weird, it was cold and refreshing and I would get it again. It's a bit salty and not like artificially gross sweet drink. We had some nice conversations with our bartender. I would come back on the weekends to see how this is when it's poppin', and hopefully try the food!

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because there was so much care and effort poured into our event. --- --- --- I reached out to SP2 several weeks in advance of this event, in addition to many other restaurants and venue spaces in the area. I'm very glad we chose SP2. For starters, working with Ian Jacobs was awesome from start to finish. He responded to my dozens of questions very promptly and was really a great person to work with. The layout of the venue was pretty ideal for what we were looking for. We had a large area for mingling, a backroom for a presentation, and then after our presentation, attendees could also head outside and enjoy mingling/eating in the beautiful weather. The were plenty of waitstaff and they were all very much on top of their responsibilities all throughout the night. The only two minor gripes were: -The food was okay. The mac-n-cheese and and vanilla bean bread pudding were excellent. Everything else was pretty middling. -There was an odd dead spot for the audio during our presentation, right at the back of the room where the projector screen is. If you were up in the front of that room, or back in the main part of the restaurant, you could hear the audio great. But if you were in that one spot, it was a strain to hear our presenters. Other than that, we really had a great experience here, and I'd definitely recommend using SP2 for events.

Yelp
Came here and they weren't serving food tonight as it was the Saturday weekend before Halloween. Cover charge was $35. Drinks extra. No place to sit anywhere unless you want bottle service but obviously none of the tables were booked or reserved but the waiters kept coming by to make sure no one is sitting at the chairs and tables that were completely empty most of the night. The musics was great! The drinks were typical. Two dance areas, one at the main bar and one in the back end. This would be good spot to chill with friends or take a date on a regular day. But this Halloween weekend it was crazy and hectic but what place is not this weekend?!! Staffs were very friendly. They should add some stools or seats for folks who bought drinks since so many tables were still empty throughout the night since no one really wants bottle service. At least Let the people who are actually spending money on drinks to set their drinks down and rest their feet. That would make the experience 5 star! Hi

Yelp
Came here for Miles Medina's Family Affair! So I can't speak much about food since when I came here all I did was drink and listen to music. BUT I can say that the vibes of this place are poppin! Also I love that they required proof of vaccination. Yas! There is a beautiful outdoor patio area that is well lit. This place is located in Downtown San Jose - so if you aren't parking in a parking structure, be prepared to search for side street parking. The bar and the bartenders were lit. The inside of this place is also beautifully lit with the dim lights. (I love dim lighting). The bartenders were super fun to order from and the drinks were being drinks! As with any bar that has live music (from my experience at least), it gets super crowded and a little messy with cups and unfinished drinks everywhere on the countertop. I personally want to come back here to eat and to just chill and hangout. There is a lot of nearby things around here since it is in downtown! The nightlife here is poppin.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place so I stopped by for happy hour! They have a solid variety for happy hour. I really enjoyed the ribs, def my fav off the HH menu. We also ordered the baby kale salad and VIP pizza (not on HH). Everyone really enjoyed the pizza- def a crowd favorite. It had so much flavor from the aged cheese. So yummy. Would love to come back and try more!

Yelp
Surprised I never visited this spot as downtown SJ is a spot we used to hit quite often. Well, better late than never. Good location and vibe, as well as pretty tasty food that would deplete your bank account. The burger and pizza were all top notch. Also their drinks are pretty amazing. One of the better spots in downtown SJ. If you like good food and drink, then this is a perfect spot for you!

Yelp
SP2 is one of my preferred spots to come to in Downtown San Jose due to the patio and good music. However, there are a lot of pros and cons that come with this spot. We swung by shortly after they opened on Saturday and were told that they had reservations on the lower tables we wanted to be sat at. Right off the bat, I was turned off. I saw only one reservation sign and the entire spot was empty. (Keep in mind, when we left, the place was still empty and only that ONE reservation table was occupied.) The waiter was friendly and provided suggestions on cocktails. The downside? The cocktails themselves were horrible. The pro? I had someone remove them off our tab and he provided an entirely new drink. Their food is awesome which is another pro. Their pizza is actually delicious and I order it whenever we are in the area. It's the one thing they do not disappoint with. The service is slightly on the slow side. We asked for ranch on the side which came when we were done scarfing our food. Overall, the vibes at SP2 are decent. The music and the waiters are nice. The patio benches are not all that comfortable but I suppose if they want you out by 2 hours, it's not a big deal.
