Pittsburgh Has a 3-day Pickle Festival—and You Can Ride a Mechanical Pickle, Eat Pickled Cannoli, and Enter a Pickle Juice Drinking Contest

"A buzzy, recently opened cocktail bar with futuristic decor and an inventive drink program whose festival menu ('Picklesburgh in Orbit') drew long lines; notable offerings included a pickle 'Red Dwarf' shot, a pickle martini, the 'Dill Void' (with olive leaf liqueur, clarified grapefruit, and dill), and a mocktail called 'Space Milk' featuring pandan leaf and acid-adjusted lime, all reflecting the owners' deliberate embrace of quirky, experimental concepts." - Angela Lian Angela Lian Angela Lian was the editorial intern at Travel + Leisure. Google
5/5 – A Stellar Experience at Space Bar! I stopped by Space Bar on a whim during a visit to Pittsburgh, and I’m so glad I did—what a great decision! The vibe here is unique and inviting, with a fun atmosphere and a cool backstory that adds to the charm. Danny was our bartender and absolutely fantastic—friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The drinks? Truly out of this world! Creative, delicious, and served with a smile. We also had some great conversation with Danny, which made the experience even better. I’d highly recommend Space Bar to anyone in the area or passing through. Thanks to the whole Space Bar crew for making it such a memorable stop. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Google
One of the best bars in Pittsburgh! All of the drinks are carefully thought out and hand-crafted. The service is wonderful—Elizabeth explained the menu and the space so well. The space transports you to a different world; when we left, I had forgotten what the surrounding area even looked like. If you enjoy a truly well-crafted drink, this is the place to go.

I wouldn't come here for food as a main reason. It's a bar with fun drinks. The staff is chill and the drinks are cool. Space, star trek and star wars theme. It was a cute experience.

Came for the Valentine’s special flight and it’s safe to say we will be back! From the high craft cocktails to the space themed ambience this place is amazing. Their drinks are inventive and taste great. Special shoutout to the one that tasted exactly like chocolate covered strawberry.

Awesome experience at Space Bar. Comfortable and cozy seating options. The service was attentive and exceptional with fabulous bartenders. The unique space themed drinks were expertly crafted. If you’re in Pittsburgh, you definitely should check this out.

Google
Such an incredible cocktail bar! Love the space theme- truly unique for the Pittsburgh area. You can tell there is a lot of time and thought put into the creation of each cocktail, which are all delicious! Will continue to go back!

Google
Such a cute space! (no pun intended) Definitely a spot to check out if you’re looking for a drink downtown. I’d say it’s a one and done, for me personally. $25 for a drink, tip included, is a bit steep if you’re looking to have a few drinks. However, it was definitely worth the stop in my book. I loved Radio Galaxy - the lime foam was super bitter, but complimented the drink wonderfully once mixed in. The space is quite small, but has a good atmosphere. I think they’re still finding their groove on the service side of things - but everyone was very kind. Absolutely will head back to try more of their cocktails !

Google
Gem of a cocktail bar in downtown Pittsburgh. This place is an experience. Very well done atmosphere without being gimmicky or kitschy. Hostess was in character which really added to the overall experience. Cocktails were incredible quality, bartending staff was kind, efficient, and knowledgeable. You can tell they take great care in developing the cocktails and curating the menu. Cocktail presentation was gorgeous. We planned to only stay for a drink but ended up sharing the Yoda’s Tea as well because it sounded so good. One of the best cocktails I’ve ever had.

Yelp
solid choice for a cocktail bar! Love the curated space-themed drinks. The "starship" comes served with dry ice which is a fun experience.

Yelp
Last week we went for some drinks at Space Bar because I really wanted to check out their new(ish) nostalgia menu and it did not disappoint! I especially loved the Neapolitan ice cream inspired Rainbow Road and the unique Doritos Guacamole inspired Andorito. We had to get some of our favorites like the Tart-ooine Sour, too! Space Bar has some of the unique and carefully crafted cocktails in town and we always love stopping by! The cocktails are a bit on the pricier side for Pittsburgh but in my opinion they're worth it - you definitely can't make these at home!

Yelp
I love Space Bar! The vibe is so cool and so different from anywhere else in the city. The staff is lovely and I have an amazing time every time This trip I tried the Falling Whale and Kiwi Nova and both were amazing. All the flavors went together impeccably! I know I will be back soon!

Yelp
Really far out bar! The owners are really knowledgeable and super friendly. The space design is awesome! We ordered a few of the drinks and they tasted great. They always have new drinks so it's a new experience each time.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Space Bar is a spaced-themed molecular-mixology bar that serves a rotating selection of alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, beers, wines, ciders, and liquors), non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, beers, and sodas), and some foods (e.g., snack mix, chips and salsa, and cheeses). Please see my attached photos for the menu in February 2025. My husband and I visited this bar one time. We had no reservation, but you can make one. The owner met us at the front door, seated us at a comfortable table, and made friendly conversation when she later checked in with us. The space-themed interior design created an "out of this world" atmosphere. We ordered two drinks through our phone, and minutes later our server brought the drinks to us. Later she brought our bill to us for payment. The Skywatcher drink cost $15, and it consisted of Haku vodka, Giffard strawberry, yogurt soju, hibiscus cordial, lime, tea, and strawberry popping boba. It came with one piece of Hi-Chew candy. I enjoyed the fruity flavors. The Starship cost $16, and it contained gin, lime, pomelo, grapefruit, lemon, orange, hibiscus, dandelion root, gentian root, lemongrass, rosemary, cardamon, allspice, clove, and cinchona bark. Its dry ice and a flashing light looked fun. Space Bar's website lists some events such as astronomy, karaoke, costume nights, bingo, trivia, book clubs, comedy, and movies.

Yelp
Fun! Their cocktails were so far above my expectations. They make most things in house like syrups, infused vodka and tequila, and purées. Everything tasted very fresh and drinks were well balanced. Hand crafted drinks run upwards of $15 but in my opinion, are with it. Service from Eva was top notch. Location makes this place easy to access and there are tons of other restaurants and bars to stop nearby.

Yelp
Drinks are amazing. Sit back, relax, and enjoy out of this world experiences! The drinks are well thought out and the service is great.

Yelp
My BFF and I spent a long weekend in Pittsburgh while coming to town for a concert. Space Bar was a short walk from our hotel and it was such a delight! The cocktails are all very interactive (whether it's glassware, dry ice, changeable lights, smoke, etc) and oh-so tasty! We had 2 rounds here before walking to a nearby spot for dinner. For my first drink I ordered the Li Shen's Bazaar Pho and it came out like a little miso soup which was so fun. It tasted slightly savory, but was nice and cold and had a basil/cilantro jelly snack that was incredibly refreshing. My friend ordered the Radio Galaxy as her first beverage- it was served in such a cool glass and had a very delicious whipped cream topping. For our second round I decided to stick with gin and got the Tart-ooine Sour that came with a changeable light underneath the glass (the neon, slime green was my favorite out of the colors, so I kept it that way) and it was so good I had to stop myself from drinking it too fast. My friend got The Fifth Ele-mint as her second drink and the cucumber and mint made it so invigorating. It was a little spectacle to behold with the dry ice bubbling out underneath the glass. We sat at the bar while we were there and both bartenders working were friendly, kind, and not pushy about ordering. They asked if we had ever been in before and explained the menu/the preparation behind the drinks to us before ordering. It is a really cool spot in downtown Pittsburgh that has a lot of other great spots within walking distance, so you can pop in for one or 2 drinks along the way to or from somewhere else. I definitely recommend stopping in for a creative cocktail if you're visiting the area!

Yelp

Yelp
Great cocktails, very creative names! Great bartenders and an awesome mixologist. It really feels like you are on a space station in outer space having cocktails in space.

Yelp
What a neat space! Decked out with lights and space themed drinks, a great indoor-outdoor bar. Reasonably priced drinks and I appreciate they have them listed in order of sweetness or also Insta-friendly and other categories. Great service and just all around fun! The managers were also super responsive and helpful when I accidentally left my purse - so grateful for their response!!! I'll always recommend Space Bar!

Yelp
I have been to Space Bar a lot of times and every time I've been there it is amazing. First of all the drinks are incredible. Carefully crafted and beautiful. I love their focus on unique flavors and innovative techniques. Dale and crew are such great people and make everyone feel welcomed! This is by far my favorite bar in Pittsburgh and I always look forward to going and trying out their new seasonal drinks... and their staple cocktails too!

Yelp
I was a little worried from the concept of a space-themed bar that this place was going to be a bit too kitschy, or that they would serve overly sweet cocktails, but they have surprisingly good and unique cocktails. It's located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh right by Market Square. When you walk in, you immediately feel "transported" into space and the hostess welcomes you in. The ambiance and decor certainly fits into the theme, lights that look like moons, etc. We sat at the bar and took a look at the menu, noticing that their cocktails were helpfully organized into different categories. I started with the Tart-ooine Sour. It comes in a glass that comes lit up with a green light. It was easy to drink and smooth, but it honestly didn't blow my mind. My boyfriend's cocktail was The Fifth Ele-mint which had quite the presentation since it's served over dry ice. We both felt it had more of a cucumber flavor than a mint flavor as the name implies. We were about to finish up, but since the menu looked so interesting, we decided to order one more drink. We got the Kali Chile cocktail, one that stood out to me from the start - ingredients like green chile vodka, kalamansi, banana, orange, coconut milk. It also had a fun presentation and was served in an astronaut glass. I really loved this drink! I thought the flavor was very unique since it had a hint of spice but was also fruity, and it overall tasted delicious. Next time, I'm curious to try more of their experimental cocktails like Lil Shen's Bazaar Pho, something that has the flavor profile of pho... intriguing! In the end, this bar won me over with its more interesting experimental cocktails. The bartender Arum helped us and he was great!

Yelp
Space bar is an outer space cantina with galactic inspired beverages. Super cool vibe!!! Love the tv screens that look like windows to the outside world. Their soft round captains chairs are very comfortable. And the music choice is modern but relaxing. Great job on the design!!! It's an easy place to ponder current space expeditions and stories that happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. The drinks are all unique and use gastronomy techniques to elevate the experience. Fun place... good drinks... will be back soon.

Yelp
I've been to Space Bar a handful of times. Overall, I can count on the drinks being innovative and fun. Pittsburgh is really lacking true craft cocktail lounges in my opinion and I feel that Space has earned a spot on the craft list in PGH. The staff has always been willing to explain any ingredient I've asked about. My last visit I ordered the Yoda's Tea and I was blown away by the flavors, complexity, and presentation. Sometimes the drinks here while they are delicious, lack booze for the price. That was not the case with this experimental cocktail. It truly was a one of a kind experience!
google avatar

Leandro D.

Yelp
This place has been opened less than a year in downtown Pittsburgh and it's a great add-in to the area. It's a fun theme. Creative and very tasty drinks. Only a handful of options for food. More like cheese boards and snacks so keep than in mind but if you want to try new and unique drinks. Definitely give this place a try
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
I love the concept of Space Bar and the drinks are all really unique and delicious. The NA drink I had was good too - I loved the pineapple foam. I would say that the drinks are excellent and the service was great, but the ambiance needs some work. I think the concept is there, but it could be a bit nicer considering how expensive the drinks. I would recommend different furniture, a better layout, dimmer lighting and some mood music!

Yelp
Finally made it to Space Bar and loved the vibe. As you probably know, they are a space themed cocktail bar located in Market Square. Their cocktail list is pretty big and they had a ton of drinks that looked super cool. We ordered The Fifth Ele-mint, Espresso Mars-tini, and Vanilla Ice cream. My friend and I both got the Espresso Mars-tini and we both really liked it!! It had flavors of orange, vanilla, and coconut. So good. My sister got the cool Fifth Ele-mint cocktail with the dry ice; it was super delicious as well. My boyfriend got ice cream and he said it was really good.

Yelp
For all the mixology snobs out there out there, don't make the mistake of overlooking this place as a photo-op experience. Yes, the drinks LOOK amazing, but they also TASTE amazing. The Space Bar fantastically offers some quality molecular mixology. As of now the food options are relatively limited, but staff told us there are plans to expand the menu soon. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Perhaps some freeze-dried options for our fellow astronauts?

Yelp
Fun little bar that was in Market Square. We came here after dinner on Saturday night. The place isn't open that late (11 pm) but it was perfect for us because we were just looking for a quick nightcap. The bar ambiance is quiet and smooth, lots of space themed decorations and animations on the wall. Bartenders are very nice and we received our drinks promptly. The drinks themselves were very well-made and smooth. Definitely a nice spot to check out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Wow! I love it here so much. Seriously the type of place you'd see in NYC London or Chicago. Decor is sophisticated and on point. It really feels like being in a spaceship. Staff is super cool. Drinks, heck yeah!!! Perfection.

Yelp
Such a fun bad idea with yummy drinks! Not a place I would be able to go to regularly but a nice fun treat for a night out with friends or people visiting they city. Service was great! We ordered some drinks at the bar and they were delivered to our table when ready. Everything was good, a great place if you like interesting cocktails.

Yelp
Went to this place on a whim before a Broadway show. The aesthetic of this place is so cool. I was talking to the owner and she had a story for all of the tables and the bar at this place. It's so cute. They have happy hour from 4-6pm. The owner is so sweet and kind. We will totally be back.

Yelp
I was really excited to check out space bar based off what I had seen online. While the space was cool & the cocktails were interesting, I was a little bit let down. You could tell it was a space themed bar, but I was expecting a little more immersive of an experience. Maybe the fact that it was open air right on market square took you "out" of the ambiance a little bit? Since it was a nice day, we did decide to sit outside & the couches were very comfortable, but it felt like a regular bar vs a big themed one. I enjoyed my cocktail (spice of arrakis), but I think the ambiance is really not as top tier as advertised & I was expecting more. I think if I hadn't had such high expectations, I would have thought the ambiance was cooler. The bartenders also had a little bit of an "over it" attitude, which contributed to us choosing to sit outside vs at the bar. Food: N/A Drinks: B+ Service: B Ambiance: C+

Yelp
The drinks here are absolutely superb and magical. I'm from New York City where there are so many cocktail bars that do eccentric things with their drinks like this place. Unfortunately Pittsburgh doesn't have as many Bars like this. So I was so excited to try this place out when it opened. I've been twice already and ended up getting the same two drinks both times lol. I can't remember their names but the one with passionfruit in it is definitely my favorite. The yellow foam on top is so interesting and has such a unique flavor. The drink that comes in a bowl with dry ice at the bottom and has a minty flavor was also so good. I'm just mad at how small the quantity of drink is, you think you're getting a nice sized cocktail and it turns out the bottom is just liquid nitrogen or whatever and you're only drinking the top part lol. Service has been lovely both times around. I randomly went on a Tuesday night and there was standup comedy that was pretty great! I wish I lived closer to downtown because I would come even more often. I hear they're going to have a new cocktail menu March 20 so be sure to come in before then and then come in again after March 20!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite newer bars in the downtown area! I've been here a couple times now and the drinks are fun and delicious! The vibe at the place is also super fun. Some of the drinks come in fun glasses, but all are well crafted. Last time we were there, we hung out with Randy from Randyland, too, so that was a fun bonus.

Linda C.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance! Such a cool place. Bartenders were awesome too. Talked when you wanted them to but left you alone with your friends. The drinks were amazing! Wish I could have tried them all. I'll have to definitely go here again when I'm back in Pittsburgh.
google avatar

Yelp
I am not really a bar kind of person. I despise liquor. It tastes like NyQuil. However, I will sometimes try different drinks anyway to see if anything is good. My sister took me here while she was in town because she liked it. For drinks, I got the Fifth Ele-mint and Milky Way Punch. Neither had the nasty NyQuil taste of liquor, and the Fifth Ele-mint was actually flavorful. I would probably get the Fifth Ele-mint again. It didn't taste minty but kind of citrusy. I got the soba noodles and liked those too. Reminded me a bit of linguini salad but with feta cheese. The restaurant itself is pretty nice but small. We went when they opened so seating was easily available. I like modern and futuristic designs so I felt comfortable here.
google avatar

Angelica S.

Yelp
Very chill place. Drinks were pretty good. Servicer was nice and quick with our drinks.
google avatar

Katrina G.

Yelp
Wonderfully crafted drinks, real chill, laid-back vibe, intergalactic decor, overall it's a vibe. The bartenders were very observant and attentive. I stopped in for a quick drink during the week of the Fourth of July with family to get a break and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
google avatar

Jackie W.

Yelp
What a hidden gem in Downtown Pittsburg! I stopped by after watching a pitiful baseball game, and it was the perfect remedy for low spirits. The staff provided excellent service, and we happened to come in when there was karaoke. The karaoke was so much fun without being too pretentious. The drinks were tasty, and I loved the various options with tropical fruit flavors. Some of the patrons were dressed up with the space theme, too. If you're looking for a fun alternate world to step into, Space Bar is a great choice!
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
This is such a cool bar downtown in Market Square! They create some really creative cocktails here and they release new drinks pretty consistently. I love how much care and attention they give to the ingredients in their cocktails. They sous vide and fat wash some ingredients which is really cool. Love the ambiance here since it's all space themed so it's really fun and the staff are all super nice too! They call their bar the lab and have a lot of pride in what they do! Definitely recommend checking this bar out. I loved the dessert cocktail, dark side of the moon, since it was essentially an affogato with bourbon and dulce de leche ice cream. So good! I really liked my drink, the fifth ele-mint, with a ton of dry ice, it was so refreshing! Pink planet, a tequila cocktail, was so good and the spice was spot on. Love that they have a boba machine too since they have a boba fruit cocktail.
google avatar

Maggie Z.

Yelp
I'm not one to willfully go downtown, but space bar got me there. It was worth it! As an Uber and paid-parking hater, space bar didn't seem like an option for me. But, on my friends' queer anniversary, we had to make the trip. Space bar made a special wall light scroll for my friends' anniversary and made their entire night. The cocktails are interesting and perfect. The bar itself is accommodating and accepting of all kinds of folks. As a scientist, I can't wait for them to host more casual nights for nerds. I love meeting other nerds without pressure, which is hard to find in this city. We don't need a speaker, we just need a venue and a deal. Space bar absolutely has the potential to offer this!

Don D.

Yelp
Every time I walk into Space Bar, it's a feast for the eyes. The owners have decorated this place with so much detail that you can find something new depending on where you're sitting. And speaking of sitting, definitely the most comfy chairs of any establishment in the area. The drink options were a lot of fun and beyond delicious. With new creations every month, going in for a drink is always an easy YES whenever I'm in the area.
google avatar

Peter J.

Yelp
I'm not a cocktail person, but I had the regular sour on the menu. It was nicely smooth with a coconut taste which made it worth it. Pricey, but that's the idea for the experience

Heather O.

Yelp
Great small little place. Drinks were well designed and presented in an eclectic way. Tasted really good and service was great!

Kristiane S.

Yelp
Fantastic bar staff, wonderful host, great, fun cocktails. I highly recommend. We're visiting Pittsburgh from out of town & this is stop two - it's great!

Maria A.

Yelp
Theme was 10/10, so many cool decorations and cute little details in the signs, menu, and the way the wait staff talked with you, even their uniforms and stuff! The cocktail I had was also reallly good! Huge depth of flavor and very complex, you could taste every ingredient, and they honor them with presentation as well! A very friendly environment & staff and they have different events each week like a karaoke and trivia, also a lot of NA options for non drinkers or even kids, and my favorite part were that all the chairs were soft, even at the bar, cool space!

Jennifer V.

Yelp
I went up to Pittsburgh from Virginia last weekend and this was one of the bars I was very excited to visit. However, the owner made me so uncomfortable that I don't think I can recommend this establishment to other people. Liz kept hovering over us and even placed her hands on me by touching my shoulder or patting my back. Personally, that kind of interaction was not welcome by me as I value my personal space, especially when I was to be enjoying my time with the people I was with and not her. The drinks were good, but I would not return due to this interaction.

Theodore L.

Yelp
Great. If visiting Market Square would strongly recommend. Great drinks as well. Owner is a pleasure

Chris C.

Yelp
Fun spot, great service. As a Dune fan, was very excited to get my hands on the spice.

Brett M.

Yelp
We were in town from LA for a couple nights and were looking for a fun bar in downtown pgh. This spot had cool ambiance and excellent service, but we were really blown away by the inventive cocktail menu. The wife had the Yoda's Tea, which was a rich blend of vodka and vanilla served with a matcha mousse, and I enjoyed the Skywatcher with the strawberry popping boba and yogurt soju. Definitely worth the trip!
google avatar

Koyel B.

Yelp
Really cute and quirky space with great decorations! The drinks are all very creative and mostly delicious. The waitstaff are super friendly and (when they have some time) happy to tell you about the drinks and how they're made. We spent a really enjoyable few hours here!

Randi B.

Yelp
Delicious drinks, awesome aesthetics, fantastic service! Not too loud or rowdy either

Emily S.

Yelp
The staff was so friendly and the drinks were made with such good thought and care. Definitely worth the price, would recommend it for anyone looking for a good date night spot or place to catch up with friends. The menus and all the decor was reall perfect too
google avatar

Sonya S.

Yelp
Creatively mixed drinks, friendly and fun staff, all in all a great time. Why isn't there a space bar in DC?
google avatar

Michael-Sean B.

Yelp
They tried to kick me out for having a service animal. I have melting bone disease and I need my service animal for mobility purposes. The owners tried saying if the kitchen was open I wouldn't be allowed in here. This place should be looked in to because the owners don't seem like they discriminate towards people with disabilities. If you have a disabilities you probably shouldn't go here because you won't feel welcomed...instead the owners will make you feel like less of a person because of your disability.
google avatar

Kiana D.

Yelp
Vibes here did not match the cool bar assumptions I made on the places name and drink menu. The door lady was the best part of the bar, I missed her the second I went into the bar. The bartenders service wasn't terrible, it just wasn't that great.
