The 27 Best Breweries in Denver | Eater Denver

"Named for a famous cymbal rhythm in tribute to the neighborhood’s musical past, this jazz-themed Five Points retreat presents a taplist that’s equivalent to an album of standards: Expect highly proficient takes on familiar styles, such as the Astro Blaster pilsner or the D-Train West Coast IPA, plus a few twists like the cucumber gose Birth of Cool." - Eater Staff

Spangalang is awesome! My boyfriend Joe and I went last night for the crawfish boil and jazz. It was our first time in, and we will definitely be back. All of the staff were so nice. I had a frozen strawberry tequila lemonade drink which was excellent, but listen to me when I say you HAVE to try the purple kool-aid hard seltzer. It was so good, we bought two crowlers of it. The food was excellent too, and the music was amazing!

Google
My new favorite watering hole! Cameron provided the best service and had a great sense of humor. Check out the schedule for live music- the blue band and dancing transported me to best of vibes!

Christina Vargo

Google
Please do better with your restrooms. The women's bathroom smelled like 6 month old, used tampons and pads. Women shouldn't have to deal with that.

Google
Great place for some music and beer. The staff were great, plenty of seating, great jazzy music, and great drinks and beer. The crab lobster boil was absolutely delicious. Conveniently located in the plaza and light rail stop as well. Worth a stop!

Google
Found this place and stopped in on a hot day for the first time. Great beer, nice staff, good vibes :)

Dan Annear

Google
Cool little brewery with good beers that are always changing. Always love a brewery that likes to change the beer up from time to time. There was no food or snacks but definitely a cool place to stop during the day. I believe they have some live music from time to time as well as some trivia but was not there for that unfortunately. If ever in the area will stop in again and try their new beers.

Google
Great jazz hangout in the 5 points. Good selection of beers, at fair prices. Laidback atmosphere makes listening to music more enjoyable. The hot dogs on the limited food menu are a tasty treat!

Google
Do you know how hard it is to find a jazz club, let alone one as awesome as this one? Great atmosphere, friendly staff, even the patrons were a joy. Oh yeah, everything else is so good, I forgot to mention the beer. I had the 'black radio' stout... amazing. Apparently, there is a game night on Wednesday. This one place makes me want to move to Denver.

Yelp
What a great find! I stopped in here during the Juneteenth festivities downtown after a friend suggested it--and I'm so glad we did. Even as it started getting busy, there were still plenty of seats to relax and enjoy a drink. The staff was super friendly, and the drinks were reasonably priced (always a plus!). I had a cocktail that was surprisingly well-balanced--not too sweet, not too strong--and my friend enjoyed their beer selection. The DJ was playing a solid mix of hip-hop, R&B, and a little old-school, which kept the vibe upbeat without being overwhelming. They also have a nice patio space, which was perfect for catching the music if things got too packed inside. I'll definitely be back for more good vibes and fun.

Yelp
I decided to stop in bc this one of the few breweries (in the area) open earlier in the day. You can't beat $5 drafts on HH. Out of the few I sampled, three were enjoyable. Service was friendly. They have a lot of table seating. The bar area is a bit on the smaller side. They don't have food yet but the bartender did mention they're expanding & will soon. They have cocktails as well. I believe live music in the evenings.

Yelp
Was in on a Friday night and for Sunday brunch. Packed and the vibe was on point both visits! Everyone is friendly and service was good! Wasn't a big fan of the margs but mimosas, Sunday were good.

Yelp
Out in Denver for business and my friend brought me to Spangalang Brewery for some good comfort food. When we arrive, I noticed the live band playing and everyone was singing along and having the best time. I ordered the Chicken and Waffle and it was so good. Chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffle was tasty. Service was not bad either considering how busy it was. The 5 Points area is such a historical landmark and I'm excited to come back again.

Yelp
I can't even believe the terrible service here. Went there last night, Friday around 9:30pm with 4 friends after a concert. The larger woman bartender looked me right in the face as I was trying to order a drink and she blatantly ignored me and waited on everyone else but me. Even people that were coming up to the bar after me, while I stood there waiting, were served. It was not a packed night and she refused to acknowledge me and even the people sitting at the bar said they couldn't believe it, it was so obvious. I told my friends at the table that I couldn't order a round and my friend went up to the bar and also tried to order. I hate to make this claim, but none of us were acknowledged when trying to order a drink, and we were the only white people in the bar. Never in my life have I experienced this and it's quite sad this happened.

Yelp
I came here as part of a bachelor party where we visited quite a few breweries. Spangalang is situated in an enclosed area with outdoor seating; the beers need to be purchased indoors. Every beer I tried was solid. I tried them all in fact, 4 oz each. BTW, we played entirely too much Connect 4. Its a fun spot!

Yelp
Loved this little brewery in five points with great music. Can't wait to go back for brunch!!
google avatar

Jarred F.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood brewery that makes traditional styles of beer that are worth giving a try. Hit it up before I show up Cervantes. Fun trivia night as well.

Morgan B.

Yelp
This was a fun spot for brunch. The food was mediocre but the live music and slight party vibe was what we were looking for.

Steve I.

Yelp
Great ambiance, music, and service. No food. But you can get excellent smashburgers at Duke's nextdoor and bring them into Spangalang.

Yelp
More adventuring with Denver breweries! I miss adventuring in Denver itself and it's breweries since I moved all those years ago. Quite a bit there has changed! But my heart truly lies where I'm at on the West Coast! The outing involving Spangalang was a fun one! We purchased a crowler here. We were in full lager mode at the time and got their beer Space Is The Place. It was a good lager and one I could get into! It had a good flavor profile. A little bit of a biscuity flavor I really liked! Futher examining of their tap list reveals other interesting beer as well which will prompt me for some future visits!

Yelp
We actually showed up at this brewery for a wine tasting event. The event never happened so we sat down and enjoyed some great beer, or should I say I enjoyed beer, they also have an almost full bar, so my wife enjoyed an excellent Bloody Mary! Got to chat with the brew master, a lovely young lady who did OJT during Covid to learn her craft. Excellent beer. She does good!!!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Spangalang is a brewery located in the cool, hip area of Five Points which has a deep and rich history. Overall, the beer selection is decent but they did run out of the sour beer that I enjoy both times I've visited there... Also, they do trivia on Thursdays and I would recommend getting there ahead of time due to table space being limited.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night right before they closed. They were nice enough to let me order a flight of four beers. All of the beers were a hit. Not just fine but great. I enjoyed my visit here. It was empty because it was closing time but I can imagine this place gets very busy at peak hours. Looks like a fun space.

Yelp
A friend of ours invited us here for a Mario kart tournament! It was on the N64 and it was intense! The host was amazing and you can tell he loves what he's doing! The beer was delicious, the people were all very friendly and the over vibe of the place was upbeat but not too loud! We will definitely be coming back for the vibes, the beer, and of course the Mario kart tournaments!!! Thank you all for a great night! Dan & Lexi
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
Had an awesome time at this brewery! We played mariokart and enjoyed a pretty much empty bar at 2:30 pm on a Saturday. The pumpkin spice beer was really delicious and is a hard beer flavor to get right. The cucumber beer was also really nice. The atmosphere was fun and really cool. Our bartender was so nice and cool and let us play on his Nintendo. Awesome experience and would definitely go back!

Yelp
It's been a while since we were last here and it's the same as we remembered. Average good beer, nothing to be excited about, in a very good location. Nice small business with good seating arrangement. My only issue was the type of...let's call it music? A mix of sounds with no order that wanted to resemble jazz, I guess. Not really my type at all. Anyway, I would visit again as long as they aren't playing this kind of loud sounds.

Yelp
One last brewery stop before heading home and we were lucky to make it here. One of the owners (wish I remembered his name) was kind enough to entertain us. We had a fun chat about various topics ranging the history of Spangalang to California craft breweries. Had a few tasters and really enjoyed the different beers here. Birth of Cool was a cucumber gose that had a unique and refreshing flavor profile. Super easy to drink. I would've loved to sip on a tall glass and miss my flight for this one! We also tried the Night Walker, their imperial stout. Also delicious and this could easily be a go to beer for me. Rich and big flavors. We also had another sour, but I can't remember which one. Thanks for closing out our Denver trip on a high note! I'm happy to recommend Spangalang Brewery as a must try.

Yelp
So I researched this brewery before even visiting Denver and I knew I had to check this place out. So I took an Uber from another brewery down the street which was good. I made it to Spangalang and I was really excited to try their beer. The vibe in there was so laid back and chill but it didn't really have a jazzy feel to it. That's ok because I came for the beer which was pretty good for the most part. For me some of the beers were better than others that they had. The bartender was very cool and so helpful explaining the beers. I got a couple of stickers then headed out to get something to eat. I would stop by again because they did have some very nice beers on tap!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The New England ipa is excellent and a fine example of the style. Got several beers here and you can't go wrong. Large outdoor patio and right next to a parking lot for convenience.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Went there on 12/23/21. Only got to go beer. Good space inside. A decent sized patio. Good selection from light to dark. Parking is not fun. Small lot in the shopping center. Most likely going to have to park on the street. Friendly bartender. Got a crowler if the Hefeweizen. Prob should of tasted it before I got it. Not a fan of it. Def want to go back and try other beers. Cheers!

Sky R.

Yelp
The craft beers are all delicious! The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming!! There is something going on every night! very diverse crowd.

Yelp
I went to see Tony Exum jazz sax. He was excellent. The brewery is awesome. Definitely a great nite spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Been wanting to come here for years. My buddy has been advertising them by wearing their shirt in California. Went to check it out. A little hidden to find not being from Denver. The place was packed as they were having trivia night. Beers were great. I had a beer aged in red wine barrels and it was fantastic. My wife also enjoyed her beer. Definitely would recommend this place and would go back.
google avatar

Yelp
So many industrial themed, Edison lights. Nice music playing little Seattle grunge. The have a few NE Style Hazy IPAs. Bit the best is the double. Looks like they have lots of fun games to play post COVID. I would defiantly hang out here ir rotation if I lived in the Denver area. We When get back in the area I will come back in and check them out.

Yelp
Black owned Brewery, What's not to love!! Great drinks too Awesome establishment and do fun games throughout the night.
google avatar

Sabine M.

Yelp
It's been a while since I have been here (2016 or 2017?)....the last time we had to leave because the employees were playing the music so loud they couldn't even hear my order! It was so absurd. I'm really glad we gave this place another chance! They built a nice patio outside, and this time the music was just perfect! The beers are delicious! Excellent! I don't know if there is new management, but the improvements are awesome! We brought 2 of our friends with us (we all live in the neighborhood) and they loved it too! This brewery is back on our list!!!
google avatar

Claire M.

Yelp
Cool spot with some tasty brews! My boyfriend & I used our Denver Passport here for BOGO beers. We tried both of their IPAs - very heavy, filling & overall refreshing. They also have a bunch of games, good service, as well as a chill interior and exterior! We'll definitely be back to try some more of their great brews!

Crystal A.

Yelp
The food was good, service was great, and the music was fantastic! We would definitely go back!

Yelp
Came for a silent disco, drinks were strong and delicious. Super crowd, amazing music, good vibes all around. Great service from the bartenders, even though it was a packed house

Yelp
My husband and I spent two days brewery hopping in Denver. This place was recommended by several bartenders from other breweries, so we decided to check it out. It ended up being one of our favorite breweries. The location felt like a former strip mall. I don't think I would have noticed it if I hadn't been seeking it out. The atmosphere was laid back...felt like kind of a hipster spot. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The sampler glasses were $1-3 each, and there is a Yelp check-in offer for a free sampler! All the beers we tried were awesome. They have a really unique selection. I really liked the Birth of Cool beer. It was light and refreshing. If you're trying to decide which breweries to check out, add this one to your list.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
I thought a rather small selection of craft beers. Tried an IPA and it was good but I like to know the alcohol contact of my beers. Surprised that that info is not included on the beer selection info board and the bartender was unable to find a menu even though there were only 4 people at the bar. To me, it was nothing special.
google avatar

Margie S.

Yelp
Nice brewery and tap room. Enjoyed the mic Czech pils and Dtrain ipa. Family friendly, nice board game selection. Check it out if in Five points.

Yelp
5/15/2016- We decided to walk from our hotel to this brewery. Good idea for cardio, bad idea if you're not familiar with the place. We relied on the GPS to take us. At times, it became a little scary as we were in some shady area. Nonetheless, we arrived safe and sound. I really liked the laidback atmosphere it had. We sat on a high top and looked over their beer menu as well as their menu behind the bar. Samplers go for $1-$3/3 oz glass. I decided on Sugarfoot Belgian Style Table Beer (4.0% ABV), Lil' Confused Dry Hopped Wheat Beer (5.3% ABV) and Nightwalker Imperial Stout. It wasn't too busy and I wished we would of sat at the bar so we could talk to the beertender about the brewery. TIP: If you Check In on YELP, you get 1 FREE 3 oz. Sample

Yelp
Be still my homesick Colorado heart. I used to live less than a block from where Spangalang stands (and used to rave about the former DMV that stood here--no wait times, friendly staff...I wonder where it is now?) and it's just one more item on my ever-growing list of reason why I never should have left. I was recently back in town and decided to have a happy hour to gather all my friends in one place and cruised through the yelp reviews of various breweries in Denver that have popped up since I left. Spangalang looked like it would have the most space and had the best reviews, so I went for it, and boy am I happy that I did. I think I managed to try every beer on their list while we were there (in moderation, using the sampler sizes...mostly) and while some weren't really to my taste they weren't bad, either. The bartenders were awesome--knowledgeable about beer but also friendly and cool. They really have their stuff together and have some solid beers, but aren't afraid to dip into some fun things, either. I know everyone's doing it but I 100% don't care, I love a bar that has games--everything from Connect 4 and Battleship to Cards Against Humanity. It was particularly good for my happy hour as not all of my friends are friends with each other/know each other and it was a great ice breaker. You can order food by going through a little hallway, and everything we tried was a delicious compliment to the beer. Not really Spangalang's star, but obviously a great add-on and good to know :). My only only complaint was that there was a verrrrry drunk lady there with her kids when we visited, and one of the other patrons mentioned that she's a regular. I super duper plan on drinking when I have kids, and actually anticipate that a wine or beer here and there is the only way future-mommy-me will be able to cope with kids sometimes, and never WANT to judge someone else's life, especially when I don't know them. That said, she was yelling really loudly about beating her kids at some card game, dropping glasses, and just acting really drunk and I don't know if that's the bartender's job, or a cry for help, but it did make my heart sad.

Yelp
Yeahhhh. So you know me I'm all about supporting your favs. This place is so amazing. They're friendly and I heard them talking about a love stream of Jazz music. Not sure about those details, but I'm glad they respect the soul of 5 Points.

Yelp
We were in Denver for a Family Reunion at the end of July. I called Spangalang because about 10 of my relatives were going there for the jazz group that night and I wanted to make sure they would have seating. I offered to leave the hotel and come and pay to secure their spots. These were all seniors, so I wanted to make sure there was no confusion when they got there. The manager on duty, (and I hate that I do not remember her name), was so gracious. Customer service was top tier. My relatives went and had an absolute blast. They thought everything was good, the jazz, the food and the drinks. Definitely stop by Spangalang if you are in the Denver area. Thanks to the staff and the artists for a memorable night.

Dom C.

Yelp
We come pretty much every Thursday for trivia at 7. Get there early because it fills up ridiculously quickly. They allow you to bring in outside food since they don't serve any. No non-alcoholic options outside of water but lots of craft beers!

Yelp
Spang-a-lang-a-doo-dah! Seeking out a mini brewery crawl, while my friend's family was out of town; I knew Spangalang had to be included. + The Brews: All were fabulous. We both opted for flights of everything (7 brews for $13) so we could try all they had to offer. I was immediately impressed with their sour beers and saison. Both are beer types that I feel are under represented in the craft beer market, but I have grown quite fond of. I also love that they seem to have a constantly rotating brew menu. That variety makes me want to come back even more!! + The Staff: Were super friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. I appreciate that the "tap tender" brought us over some tasting guides to the different brews, so we would be able to recognize some of the more subtle notes in their beers. + The Space: I love the local artwork on the walls and the awesome "jazzy" color scheme. Blues, greens, and purples go so well together! Spangalang also does a great job including their brand into the building. You'll notice the logo subtlety mixed in as you look around. + The Location: Is super convenient! Located right by the lightrail! Spangalang has a parking lot with a few parking spaces, and plenty of street parking along Welton. We arrived about ten minutes after they opened and the bar seating was already packed. By the time we left (about 3 hours later) it was a full house! ...and if you forgot you growler, don't worry! They got you covered! You can pick one up from them and take home you favorite brew! Plus maybe a sweet shirt. :)

Yelp
I don't like beer, beer is just not for me so I would say my review would be unfair. So I'll write on behalf of my husband and a bit of myself. We came here to meet with my husband's co-worker cause he said this place is super chill and they have a variety of different beers (like most breweries, duh). My husband choose a dark beer that was really hardy and he enjoyed it, he said he would give this place 4 stars. Now.. I actually ordered a beer and drank the entire thing! That is so rare! I forgot the name of it but it was fruity and very easy to drink. I actually kind of enjoyed it! It wasn't hoppy which is great cause I can't do the bitterness. Overall, I was shocked I drank my entire beer and this place is super chill.

Yelp
This is an amazing brewery. I'm not from the area but have family here and make it a point to come here. The staff makes you feel like old friends and the beer is tasty! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Spangalang's a new brewery over in Uptown Denver with laid back vibes and nice music (soul 60s/70s). Clean inside with a friendly staff and reasonable prices. Samplers go for $2-$3/3 oz glass. My fav was the Nightwalker Stout. What I like most about this place is that the patrons can participate in naming new beers that are nameless (I submitted my entry today for the unnamed Saison Spiced w/Pink peppercorn and dried orange peel flavored beer). Finger's crossed xD Would come here all the time if I lived in Denver. It's quiet and is the perfect place to grab a drink after a long work day.

Yelp
These guys get it - they've got plenty of interesting stuff for beer nerds, at totally reasonable prices. Granted, I had a large backlog of reviews to write after going to Denver for GABF, so the specific beers are probably totally irrelevant by now (seems like the sort of place where beer rotates frequently), but when I was there, I got a flight of 4: a cucumber gose (fantastic), a bba sour with zin grape must (also excellent), a passion fruit gose (good, but not as fruity as I was hoping - but still good), and a bba cherry stout (pretty good - not my favorite bba stout, but I've got high standards. Was still pretty good though.) They do serve individual 3oz pours for between $2-4, but you get a discount if you do a flight of 4 - $10 for a core flight, or $11 for a flight of the 4 priciest ones. Alternatively, if, as was the case when I was there a few weeks ago, there are exactly four beers you want tasters of, then at least as of right now, you should check in on yelp, claim your free taster (it can be any beer, so have them comp one of the $4 tasters), then get the other three individually and it'll be less than $11! I also got a free bonus totally by accident: I got there on Wednesday around 8, had no idea they have no-cover live jazz from 7-9 on Wednesday. Was pretty good, too! Probably partially explains why it was so busy on a Wednesday night, too - though also partially probably because it was GABF week, the same reason I was there. Not sure how busy it is on a normal day, but regardless, despite being pretty busy, I was still able to get beer almost immediately. This would definitely be one of the breweries I'd make sure to pop back into if I was ever back in Denver. (And if possible, I'd go on a Wednesday evening!)

Yelp
With friends in town from Chicago itching to try new breweries, Spangalang was a collective choice! Here goes: Star 1 = The beer is fantastic! The brewers started with Great Divide and branched off to their own little gem, that is already a town favorite! We ordered the sampler which consisted of about 12 3oz beers! My favorite part was that each beer was super creative and fun! One had infused cucumber, a few offered flavors from Colorado (palisade peaches anyone?) and all ranged in flavor, taste and style! so good!! Star 2 = Staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and fun! Both bartenders gave us additional samples because they were excited to show us their brews! Star 3 = Although the space is small, they use It well! Very industrial, great fixtures, lots of light/windows on one wall, and local art (that is for sale!) adorn the walls :) so cool!! Star 4 = It's a little hard to find this hole in the wall joint - there is plenty of parking and the light rail runs right by! :) 4 stars for 4 different reasons! this was a perfect daytime date!

Yelp
I really liked his brewery in Denver. One way to my heart is having more than three tables for patrons to sit at -- check. The other way to my heart is having board games, especially Catan. I visited with my mom and best friend before my bachelorette weekend commenced last June. It was not too busy and a beautiful day outside. The bartender was knowledgeable and nice. Explained which ones I thought I'd enjoy based on my tastes. I also loved that this brewery had many types of beers. Some in Denver like to do all darks or all IPAs. No food but there's some little restaurants and stuff around the block.

Yelp
Great brewery. Jazz theme is perfect. Great patio in the sun and spacious indoors. Beer selections are always changing and all high quality. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
I was bummed when the DMV closed at this location. It was my little secret--I could get in and out quickly. But what has replaced it is pretty sweet. I like jazz, so their jazz theme is a nice touch. Staff were super-friendly. I met some patrons while waiting for friends to arrive, and they were friendly and chatty. This place attracts a nice crowd. They had a nice variety of beer styles--and a lot of them. Some interesting Belgian-style brews. There is a...food window in the back that offers some good stuff to eat with your beer. I recommend the hummus plate.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Interesting beers, good outside space nestled in an interesting part of town. Great group of guys serving. "Tasting" a splash of beer doesn't seem to exist and samples are 3oz and range from $1-3. They do crowlers, which I'm a big fan of! They have a decent selection of games, a great outdoor space, and what seems to be a consistently run kitchen. The food looked tasty. My favorite beer was the Blackberry and sage sour, which wasn't overly sour, sweet or earthy but instead was a fantastic blend! There's something for everyone from super light to super dark and whiskey barrel aged.

Yelp
I HATE BEER BUT BIRTH OF COOL! BLESS YOU In the land of breweries and I can't drink beer, ordering sours or their lightest beers. But I found you. Birth of Cool is the love of my life. The check-in gives you a free extra 4oz. So worth it. PLUS board games to hang out and chat. I love you spangalang
