On the Grid : Spare Tire Kitchen & Tavern

"Picture this: rock & roll posters, black-and-white mural ceilings, brass chandeliers, an open-air front exterior and a table built around a living tree. It all works pretty well together in this self-described gastropub at Wilshire and Cloverdale. The tavern’s known for draft beers, whiskey and rye, shareable plates and great happy hour deals." - Huge

Spare Tire Kitchen & Tavern Review - Beverly Grove - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Most famous for being that place you order food from while you’re still binge drinking at Busby’s East, Spare Tire is actually a really underrated daytime spot as well. The food is good and the vibe is never too rowdy." - Brant Cox

Nice place. It has a cool interior inside the bar. The place by itself is kind of small. It is a good place to get a drink and meet with friends. They have many games like Monopoly. That is cool because you always can find what to do. However, the food there is just okay. It tastes alright but nothing special. The other problem was that when I and my boyfriend came in, no one greeted us. We sat at the table and no one came to take our order. We were sitting there for 10 minutes until our waiter decided to come. Customer service is not good.

As good as it gets for a place to eat & watch games. They are upgrading their AC so just aware on hot days. But if you want comfort food that will kill you with calories & fat come here. You live but once so you gym rats and health freaks go back to your yogurts. This place rocks.

Live literally a couple blocks and finally got to try it out. Went when it was not super busy in the morning, basically like half hour after it opened haha. There was no other patrons there except a couple of ppl setting up for a party and 1 other person there so service was quick and waitress was very nice. Food was decently good for brunch. Opted for white and red sangria instead of mimosa but would try that one day. I got the breakfast pizza which was a bit on the plainer side but quite good - it's a shared dish if preferred. Hubby got fried chicken and biscuits which would have been better if they actually told us they ran out of the jalapeno jam instead of us trying to guess if there was any on the dish - the jam would have made the biscuit less dry. The sangria's were okay, would have been better with a bit more fruit and sweeter. Overall decent place for a brunch.

Atmosphere was tight. We made a reservation so no problem with the seating when we came in. Waiter was really cool and the food is top notch. Definitely, good place to come and eat and drink.

The happy hour prices are good for the area. The food took a bit longer then normal for happy hour portions to arrive at the table, but its good and so is the atmosphere. The staff is friendly. I would come here again because its close to my job, but if it wasn't, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

I made a reservation for a Saturday, but did not really need one once I had arrived. It was self seating and not crowded when we arrived. The establishment was cute inside of a bar. The service was good. The servers were nice, but when we needed something it seemed like a took a few attempts to actually get his attention. I had the Shrimp and Grits and a Moscow Mule to drink. And my boyfriend had the Buffalo Chicken and Waffles sliders on a Bloody Mary along with a half dozen of oysters. My drink was really good. It was nice and gingery just how I like it. My food was not what I expected. It was a rather plain meal. The grits were very thick, the shrimp were a little overcooked, and they forgot the pancetta (not that it would have improved the meal). My boyfriend's food however was really good. The chicken was spicy and the waffle was actually very good. The slider is placed over a Bloody Mary for a pretty cool presentation. My boyfriend really enjoyed the Bloody Mary, nice and spicy just how he likes it. He also loved his oysters. We would probably return if we were in the area for happy hour one day.

This spot has been so many different eateries. Spare tire has good food and great drinks. They also offer board games to play. The service is nice and the safe seem to be happy working there. That's always a plus! Check out the happy hour.

I made a reservation to try this place while planning to check out some art at the nearby LACMA, and came away impressed. First of all when I ordered a cocktail they asked if I'd like to make it a double, which I always appreciate, and always answer YES! So that was a great start. There were so many tasty items on the menus I had a really hard time deciding what to order, but MAN am I glad I settled on the Farm Fresh Burger--one of the best burgers I've had in quite a while. The combined additions of the fried egg and the prosciutto take this burger to the next level! My fiancee had the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was good but fell short of great for a couple reasons--one of which was lack of seasoning on the chicken itself (cardinal sin!), we felt it needed a bit more salt and heat, maybe some hot sauce even? Secondly, the way they stacked the sandwich's condiments and garnishes made it so that eventually the chicken slides out from the bun altogether, and you end up with a vegetarian sandwich with a hunk of fried chicken on the side. For our sides we had onion rings (SO GOOD) and a side salad (it was just OK). Overall the friendly, prompt service and the out-of-this-world burger made our choice clear: next time we are in the area we'll absolutely return here to try some of the many other assuredly-tasty menu items.
