Sparky's – Hatch, New Mexico - Gastro Obscura

"Hatch, New Mexico—the self-proclaimed “Chile Capital of the World“—is a town off Highway 25, between Albuquerque and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Here, the Nunn family operates Sparky’s, a restaurant surrounded by their collection of retro roadside statuary. A robot alien, Sparky’s namesake mascot, welcomes customers from a lineup of noteworthy characters. A 30-foot-tall Uncle Sam heralds hungry road trippers from afar. The A&W burger family occupies rooftop real estate, and Colonel Sanders, Ronald McDonald, Yogi Bear, and Robin Hood all stand across the street. The inside is no different. Sparky’s is practically bursting with Americana, from signage to collectibles. Proprietors Teako and Josie Nunn opened up shop in 2008. They specialize in “Burgers, Barbecue, & Espresso,” but most people line up for their award-winning green chile cheeseburger, which is often touted as one of the best renditions in the state. Teako oversees the meat department, while Josie handles the restaurant design and barista service (using local coffee roasted in the nearby city of Las Cruces). Hatch’s namesake crop, the Hatch chile, appears on burgers, in burritos, and piled up at the condiment bar, but it also graces Sparky’s dessert and drink menus. Spice fanatics love the kick it adds to thick milkshakes and tangy, iced lemonades. The Nunn’s started their acquisition of gargantuan pop culture figures from bygone decades in 2006. Teako purchased a Muffler Man bought to draw attention to their RV dealership. When the family opened Sparky’s two years later, the property became a museum for their historic stockpile. Know Before You Go Sparky's is just off of Highway 25, en route to Las Cruces. You really can't miss it. It's only open Thursday through Sunday." - ccesare, kymolsen, docbku, Mitch Lang, brianjmaxwell

Google
Great place for a Green Chili Cheeseburger. Can't imagine ordering something that doesn't have green chilies in it when you're in Hatch NM. Very fun place with the decor. Place was very busy but the food came out quickly and was delicious. Highly recommend.

We stopped in Hatch and kind of accidentally came to Sparky's to eat. We didn't realize how well known and how much of a hotspot it was. There was a little bit of a line, but probably nothing like on the weekends. We visited at 1:30 on a Thursday, so not a prime time. We got a double burger, no cheese and fries. We split it between us, and it was plenty of food. The fries were really good and so was the burger. The burger was greasy and sloppy and had great flavor. I'm usually a vegetarian and gluten-free. They did have a veggie patty, but I opted to just eat the burger since we wanted to share. If you're gluten-free, this isn't the spot for you. The atmosphere is an eclectic assortment of old memorabilia and antique signage and figures/mascots like the statue of Colonel Sanders near the soda station. Our tray was from McDonald's, and we got a fortune cookie with our burger, so very eclectic. I'm glad we stopped to experience this place.

Truck driver come on down here it 1 mile off the 25. I parked at Jim’s grocery on Wilson’s st but can park on price st or anywhere else. #3 was one of the best burgers I ever had in my life. Love the atmosphere and check out their antique store. I will definitely be back.

Google
Pros: Older man was on top on cleaning the tables and they had a live band. Cons: Forgot to give me the chili on the side on two orders. Ordered 6 of the least expensive meals and came out to over $100. Asked well done and got them pink. I was tired and trying to get back on the road . Didn’t want to wait to get my order redone. Fries are nothing out of the norm.

Google
Lively. Good good restaurant. The pictures you see is what you get. Had the number 1 combo. The Green Chile burger is a high medium in the Green Chile scale. The burgers are homemade and had a charcoal broiled taste. We also had the vanilla ice cream sundae that was very good. The bathrooms were clean, overall the restaurant was clean, the atmosphere is bustling. A good place to visit if you are passing by Hatch.

Google
I have to say, Sparky's is worth the one hour drive from El Paso. I went on a Saturday with my two year old and I had an amazing time, the place is very unique, being from Mexico you really feel that you are being part of a small piece of US culture. The place is adorned with Americana and the food is actually pretty good. The world famous burger is something you won't get anywhere else as is the bbq sauce and the pulled pork is really good too.

Google
We were excited to try this hamburger joint. Total disappointment! Dry, burnt hamburger! I don't know why they ask you how you want your hamburger cooked, it was burnt! Green Chile looked like it was sitting there for a while. Dried up cheese. Did not look anything like the picture with the cheese oozing out the sides. Fries! Frozen crinkle fries! Again not like the picture of fresh fries! First picture is what they advertise, second is the actual pattie, and the fries that end up in the trash! Not my fries by the way. No way are these hamburgers and the service worth the price! Almost 40 dollars! Oh and they ran out of ice and the bathroom was dirty, with sticky floors!

Google
It was worth the wait, as the line to order was long. It moved quickly, though. We had a green chile burger and a green chile cheese burger with fries. The burgers and steak fries were delicious. We will definitely return next time we're in the area and highly recommend

Yelp
Stopped by on recommendation by a friend of ours. So glad we did. We had the #1 and #2 combos. Delicious, friendly staff who were willing to tell us about the menu options. Old time, throwback, fun vibe. Lots of room for different size groups. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Sparky's BBQ and Espresso is a retro gem that stands out even before you walk through the door. The exterior, adorned with vintage restaurant signs and quirky decor, sets the tone for a trip down memory lane. Inside, it's just as charming--like stepping into a museum of diners past, filled with nostalgic artifacts and retro displays. The ordering process is straightforward: place your order at the counter where a large photo menu hangs behind the cash register. For me, it was the green chili cheeseburger. It didn't disappoint--perfectly balanced with just enough kick without being overly spicy. The fries, however, were a little underwhelming. They arrived lukewarm, though it might've been the cold day playing tricks on me. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the green chili lemonade. Yes, you read that right. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this drink is a game changer. The combo of tangy lemonade and subtle green chili heat was a revelation--refreshing and unlike anything I've ever tasted. Sparky's is definitely worth a visit for the experience, the atmosphere, and that unforgettable lemonade. While the burger and fries weren't life-changing, the overall vibe and unique offerings make this spot a must-try.

Yelp
Go for the experience, not the food. Sparkys is taking over Hatch. All the surrounding businesses have been bought, and turned into Sparky parking. Wow! And you can tell, because there are all of the life sized statues, especially of various fast food restaurants. They are all over, like some kids movie, or maybe a horror flick. Service is straight fast food. Essentially none. Food is ok. The chile burger is essentially just a hamburger with green Chiles on it. Not too hot, but nothing special. Note, the bun does get pretty soggy. Now that I have been there, done that, would probably try another place in Hatch,

Yelp
Recently traveled down to Hatch a few weekends ago for a sack of fresh green chile. Sooooooo, of course I had to stop and eat at Sparky's. Everyone always says, eat at Sparky's, eat at Sparky's. So what did I do? I ate at Sparky's! The place is fun if you have never been. Super eclectic. Filled with all the things. All the signs, all the statues all the knick-knacks. It's a delight. You order in the front, right when you walk in. The menu covers the wall and your order with a cashier sitting right next to it. Then you get your drinks, yourself. Otherwise, they will call your name for your order. The no. 1 (Green Chile Cheeseburger) and no. 7 (Smothered Green Chile Queso) were ordered. We got fries with the no. 1 and the corn chowder with the no. 7. The burger was good, but I loved the smothered patty with queso even better. The corn chowder was, okay, a little runny, or a watery consistency. Woulda been waaaay better had it actually thickened up. There was a live band playing in the main dining room. So that was pretty nice to get some live music during our visit. Didn't try any of the coffee or ice cream, or desserts. So I will have to start with one of those first, next time.

Yelp
While in Hatch, we had to stop at Sparky's for a Green Chile Cheeseburger. The whole family ordered a burger and potato wedges. We immediately tasted the green chile and it was gooooood. The burger was perfectly good without being too greasy, but greasy enough. The wedges were cooked well and crispy without being soggy. The inside is definitely eclectic. Very interesting decor that makes Sparky's stand out. Our family arrived right when they opened, so I can't speak to long lines. We were able to find a seat and didn't have a wait at all. Before leaving, we ordered lattes to go. They were good but not stand-out. We will stick with the green chile burger next time.

Yelp
I have to write an update because I said I will "always" order a #5 which is a double combo. Wrong! Guess who decided to change the menu on us? Lol The #5 is now the #2 SO! I will always order the DOUBLE green chile cheeseburger. Every. Single. Time. Double green chile cheeseburger with a mudball no whip please. Thank you lol Love Sparky's. Hands down THE best Green chile cheeseburger in the state.

Mike R.

Yelp
Love this place. I highly recommend this unique restaurant. The food is amazing. The menu is amazing.

Yelp
Sparky's is known for its eclectic decor and green chile. They have both indoor and patio seating. We had to sit on the patio since we had our pups with us. Unfortunately, the patio was teeming with flies and ants even before we got our food. Sparky's is a busy place that cooks your food to order so getting your food can take a bit and you need to go inside to place your order. It was worth the wait, The 7 ounce green chile cheeseburger is plenty to share with another person and was cooked perfectly. The steak fries that accompany the combo were a generous portion of crisp potatoes. Sparky's has marked parking across the street and in the back of the building.

Yelp
Great BBQ and larger than life characters #Sparkys look out there is even a live band in this Saturday that we are passing through!

Yelp
Wow! What a great place. We stopped here on our way through New Mexico. We were a bit confused at first on where the place was as we thought we parked in the parking lot. They seem to have taken over several nearby buildings to allow for plenty of parking. We even found a place to park with our truck and travel trailer. When you walk in you need to find the end of the line and place your order. It was very busy when we were there so we had to watch for people as they were finishing to grab a table. I was so hungry from our long day of travel the I forgot to take pictures of our food. It was delicious, the cheese sauce on the chicken was wonderful, even had some extra to bring home. The coleslaw with pineapple was refreshing and delicious. We will be back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
The best burger I've ever had. Totally worth the hour-long wait. I just wish I ordered more. If you're in the area, you have to stop here.

Yelp
**DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ** 10/23: Had to stop to see what was going on in Sparky's because there's always a lot of cars, a long line or people walking towards the building every time I'm driving through Hatch. I found out for sure! These burgers taste like a well seasoned melt in your mouth backyard, charbroiled style burger. Lawd Have Mercy!!!! It was yummy.. I ordered 1 plain cheeseburger combo and 1 green chile cheeseburger combo. The potatoes were hearty, but the burger is what does the stomach a few favors. Meat patties are not small/ thin. No garnish on my burger, but there is a place near the drink station to spruce up the burger if you'd like.

Yelp
Hatch: the home of the best green chili. There was a seasonal side of corn with green chili that Brightness just loved. I had smothered chop steak which was tasty. She had a chicken with green chili cheese. WARNING: they close at 5:30 everyday so don't be late!

Steve Z.

Yelp
I posted a negative review in 2023. We had relatives that came to visit from out of state, and they wanted to go to Sparky's. I wasn't looking forward to it, since it just wasn't very good in 2023. I have to change my review to Awesome!! The menu is back to the way it use to be. We had 16 people with us, and everyone had a great meal! Thanks so much for bringing the pork tacos back. The burgers were all great!! The fries were really good!! I had the corn chowder, but it was too spicy for me, but my spouse loved it. Keep up the great work!! We will again be back every time we pass by Hatch!!!!

Yelp
I finally made it. This place had been on my local bucket list for years and this was the weekend I checked it off. After driving an hour and a half, followed by waiting in line another 30 minutes, then another 15 mins for my order, it did not disappoint. The green chile cheeseburger was just as good as they said. The chile con queso dip was spicy and good too. And I loved the Sassy Strawberry Lemonade. It has a nice kick. The service was friendly and prices were reasonable. A nice surprise was the live music, I'm a Blues fan, so I could have listened all day. So glad I made it. It's quirky nostalgic vibe was a lot of fun. I'll be back to Sparkys for sure.
google avatar

Ray C.

Yelp
The food was excellent! We tried the famous green hatch chili burgers and the tacos. The burger was delicious and the chili sauce enhanced the flavor of the beef. The tacos were really tasty and served with green hatch chili sauce too.
google avatar

Pamela W.

Yelp
The Pulled Pork Tacos with Pineapple slaw and strawberry chili lemonade were made to go with each other. The flavors melded together the way a good meal should. Top it off with a sundae pie or an iced espresso drink as you mosey through a fun atmosphere viewing relic signs and collectibles from years gone by. Service was quick and the people were friendly. They have this tourist spot dialed in!
google avatar

Buzzy H.

Yelp
3.5 stars. The mango chili lemonade was fun and unique! They have a dog-friendly patio. The vibes are super funky and fun! The burgers leave a lot to be desired. We had high expectations for a place that says they don't offer lettuce and tomato because their burgers are "so good." It needed more green chili, it needed the burger cooked to medium (how I ordered it), and it needed lettuce and tomato! The service was okay. Pretty quick considering how busy they are! We really liked their wedge cut potatoes!

Zachary W.

Yelp
Was in the area for work and was an awesome place to stop for some food! Sparky's offers amazing hatch chile on some burgers and various other dishes. The burger was very good. Service was great in their recommendations. The ambiance of the place is very unique. If you ever find yourself in the area definitely take a visit!
google avatar

Norman B.

Yelp
Great green chili cheeseburger, but I made the mistake of ordering a double patty. It was so juicy, it ruined the bun. I had to eat it with a fork. It still tasted great going down the gullet. Sparky s is a must-go-to when in Hatch. Love the nostalgic "junk" all over the walls.
google avatar

Jim V.

Yelp
Trip back to Tucson from ABQ, have to stop for a #2 Combo which is a green chile double cheeseburger with potato wedges. Never disappoints! Go!
google avatar

Jackie M.

Yelp
In our party we had a hamburger, hamburger with pulled pork on top, and a grilled chicken sandwich (all with hatch chilies on top). Despite asking for medium, the burgers were cooked well done. The corn chowder was runny but still tasty, but with the word chowder we were expecting something thicker. They don't have wedge fries as pictured, they were crinkle cut fries...nothing special. Service was good and the band playing was a nice touch. I'd say give this place a try but if the line is out the door keep looking.
google avatar

Nate A.

Yelp
Been wanting to check this place out for awhile after seeing it on TV and the local reputation it has. Definitely lived up to the hype. Worth the 30 or so minute wait outside in the heat to get to the counter to order. Each bite had the perfect amount of green Chile, cheese and burger. The vintage ambiance was very cool with several old time signs and artifacts. I can see why this place is so highly recommended and will make it a must visit when I'm back in the area.
google avatar

Lana K.

Yelp
Arrived as soon as they opened and there was already a line. It moved along rather quickly. Even though it was early afternoon, the sun's rays were strong. Bring a hat to shield you while you wait. In observing, the line lasted most of the day so I'm glad we got there early. Once you order and pay, you can go inside and choose a seat in the dining area. They will call your name to get your food. The dining area is clean and decorated with antiques galore. I believe the location was featured on American Pickers. I wanted to take a look in there store to see what other treasures they had, but it was closed. We got the combo #3 based on recommendations. I could have gone without the BBQ pork and settled for the green Chile cheeseburger. We also ordered the queso for the fries, which was your average velveeta like cheese, along with a watermelon green Chile lemonade. I have to say that the lemonade was my favorite. It was the right amount of sweet, tart and kick. Overall, it was a great way to try green chiles in Hatch!
google avatar

Timmy S.

Yelp
We come to sparkys about once a year to pig out and today was that day!!! We ordered more than we could eat and it was a little expensive but that's ok because spending time with people you love and then enjoying one of the best burgers in the state is priceless! The DGCCB combo is $19 as is. And most plates are about $15. Burgers here are seasoned well cooked to order and delicious. Fountain drinks are endless and the shakes are great! I had a strawberry shake and it was loaded with chunks of it. The sausage bites are ok but I wish Sparkys had a bigger menu to include more menu items like corn, potato salad, bbq meat by the pound and of course some ribs! But their burger is at the top of most lists when it comes to the best in NM. Easy to taste why. Two thumbs up from me and I hope to be back sometime soon!!!
google avatar

Dulcie P.

Yelp
Pretty tasty burger, lots of flavor, tender juicy patty! Green Chile had perfect amount of heat and flavor! Potato wedges great crispy exterior, soft fluffy middle. Building is amazing with lots of antiques to walk around and check out while waiting for your order. Only thing I wish is that they toast the bun so it doesn't get so soggy. Amazing place definitely worth a visit
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
This place is a a must if you are ever traveling in NM! How can you go wrong with the best chilies in USA! The #1 was the bomb!
google avatar

Megan A.

Yelp
Consistently delicious food and my favorite green chili burger anywhere! I've been coming here for years and always have a great meal and a good time checking out all of the unique antiques and fun statues. The place is massive so there's never a wait to get a table after you order at the counter. My only suggestion for Sparky's is that I wish they'd bring back the "Almost Famous" 4 oz burger option for those of us that just don't want the big 7oz classic. But even not having that option, I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Sparkys. The visit was just as good as we remembered from the first time a few years back. You can't go wrong with their Green Chili Cheeseburgers. That is what most of us went with this trip. My youngest went for the Oinker (cheeseburger with pulled pork). There wasn't anything left as it was all delicious. Of course we also had to have milkshakes too...I had the chocolate/green chili, my husband had the strawberry/red chili, and my daughters had the mango/red chili versions. Again, delicious! You'll have fun checking out all the old signage and other momentous while you are waiting for your food. They often feature live music in one of the rooms and now have more outdoor seating options since COVID. We understand why this place is one people talk about and go to when visiting Hatch.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
WORTH... THE... DRIVE! Took roughly an 1hr and 20 minutes, I haven't been to sparky's in over 10 years. Food road trips are my thing! It's definitely a spot to check out and eat some good burgers and I mean DAMN GOOD burgers. Not smash patties like what seems to be trendy now. Old fashioned , hand formed, grilled up deliciousness. We got a Combo #2, it's their double cheese burger loaded up with hatch green chiles. That first bite had me hear a church choir, I swear I saw heavens gates. I was ready to die happy. Juicy, savory, spicy, everything you want it to be, it's that and more. For all you new transplants to this region, it's a must. Passing through, a must. Las Cruces & El Paso locals, you already know if you don't then stop with the excuses and make a foodie trip. Hit up some local shops, buy some chiles. Worth the time.

Yelp
My family and I enjoyed this place The hamburger are made with real beef. The antique collection makes this place so unique.

Yelp
A funky old restaurant that stays very busy. Definitely nothing fancy but it serves Excellent food. It's self serve, but You can't go wrong no matter what you order. Loved the live music too!

Yelp
The line was long, but I have been meaning to swing by here every time I pass through Hatch, so I decided to stop and give it a shot. The line moved quickly, and I ordered my double cheeseburger with fries. Hold the chilies please. While I waited I wandered through the place which was wonderfully quirky with all of its memorabilia and merch for sale. I picked up a few t-shirts for the family and then my food which was ready. I love a good burger and this place had one of the best I've had in a long while! Greasy, flavorful and just oh so bad for you. I will make a point to swing by every time I'm going through Hatch from now on.
google avatar

Yelp
After a morning hike, we drove through Hatch in search of roadside kitsch but stayed for lunch! Hubby the Number 1 Combo (cheeseburger with choice of sides - he picked fries - and soft drink). While they did offer Morningstar veggie burgers, I wasn't very hungry and was intrigued by several creative shakes. At the recommendation of the cashier who took our order, chose the (fresh) strawberry and chili shake which was both spicy and cooling at the same time! Hubby liked his burger with hatch chilies even though he generally does not like spicy. The fries were thick cut, cooked well and a generous enough to share some with me. Enjoyed looking at all the collected kitsch inside and outside the restaurant!
google avatar

PJ S.

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance! The wait was well worth it! We ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, their Burger, Green Chile Tacos, and the chicken strips! Topped it off with with their cookies a la mode!
google avatar

Yelp
Kinda eclectic burger joint in Hatch. Wife and I both had green chile cheeseburger w home fries and it was good - not great, but good. Disappointed that burger came with only cheese and pieces of chili on it. Don't bother asking for lettuce or tomatoes because apparently they don't even have any...as in none in the restaurant. For a $14 burger in small town NM I kinda expected more. Hard to understand the glowing reviews by others or the lines, but hey, maybe it's just me.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Voted one of the best hamburgers in the nation for a reason. I believe that reason is their cheese sauce. My girlfriend took me to Sparky's for a surprise date and boy were my expectations exceeded. What I felt like started out as just any good hamburger turned into an experience where I've dreamed about the cheese sauce in which it comes with. I ordered just the regular hatch green Chile burger with the big fries. The line took us about 15-20 minutes to stand in to be able to place our order but luckily they had mist fans because you have to order outside(we were sweating). Inside is filled with all sorts of Knick knacks and fun trinkets and the AC was a nice touch after being outside for a while. Across the street was also some really fun statues that were cool to take pictures by to remember the store with. The burger at first bite just seemed like a really good green Chile burger. One I would definitely go for again just by itself. However, it was the cheesy green Chile sauce that has me literally salivating as I write this review that made this trip extraordinary. I ate that sauce with my fries, my burger, and even my fingers where no one was looking! If you go, DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS SAUCE. I look forward to being able to go back soon with some good friends. Highly recommend if you haven't gone even with the long trip.

Yelp
BEST ADVICE EVER ORDER ON YOUR WAY HERE! Go to the pickup order and it's WOW the food is good the sides have gotten stingier just Fries, Coleslaw and beans. It's still the best Green chili cheeseburger we love the crimson red pucker and green chili lemonade... service is great on the phone you pay on the phone but no waiting in the pickup line Sundays are always packed so did I say order before you arrive.. plenty of room to eat inside or outside they would get a 5 star if only they were open on Monday but alas we make it happen!
google avatar

Dan B.

Yelp
There's a lot to like about Sparky's - a rich history of a small successful business in the heart of Hatch, New Mexico, Chile Capitol of the World. The employees are awesome, friendly, and courteous and their food is renowned as being nothing short of special. So why 4 stars, and not 5 (actually 3.5 rounded up to 4). Well to begin, it's important to know they're only open Thursdays through Sundays, 10:30am - 4:00pm. So when I rolled in on my Harley at 3:45pm on a Saturday afternoon, the ordering line was about 12 people deep, and the place was PACKED! No worries though as I'm always happy to see a successful business in action, and so I patiently waited in line, and it went fairly fast. 10 minutes later I ordered their World Famous #1, a 7oz Chile Cheeseburger with side and drink ($12.49). For my side I chose the pineapple coleslaw, and for my drink, water. It took about 20 minutes (and two water refills later) before they called my name. I received my styrofoam box meal and walked over to a shaded picnic table ready for my long awaited and eagerly anticipated Chile Cheeseburger meal. When I opened it and saw my sandwich, I was surprised and disappointed to find my World Famous Chile Cheeseburger sans the green Chile - ughhhh! The thing is, while waiting near the pickup window, I remember seeing a customer come back with his sandwich with the same issue - no green Chile on his sandwich.... Another trip up to the pickup window, an apology from the employee who gave me a small plastic container of green Chile (so I could put it on my sandwich) and then back to my picnic table. By the time I actually was eating my sandwich it wasn't hot any longer. Minus 1/2 Star+ for this. The other 1/2 Star+ is for the bun which seemed a bit too dry for my taste - probably because it was the end of the day and who knows how many buns they must go through? I will say the pineapple coleslaw was awesome - definitely get this as a side! So, yes, I'd recommend you give them a try, but I'd highly suggest you arrive early, rather than later, in the day. They're worth a visit.

To the nanagement. You need to train your employees to have better customer service. Horrible service!!! I wish I could comment on the food. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to order. Was standing in line to order behind a woman when the cashier walked away, without a word. We patiently waited for 10 minutes. When I finally asked if someone could take our order, I was told "We are closed." When I said were waiting in line when the cashier walked away, I was told "Oh, we thought you were waiting on food." We were clearly standing in front of the cashier, not the pick-up window. If you decide to try this place, I hope you have better service. I would give zero stars but I'm afraid it wouldn't count.

Yelp
Oh dear Gawd in heaven... These hatch Chile burgers are amazing... I decided to go to the village of Hatch, to get my fill of hatch chilies and I sure did today at Sparkys burgers. This place is an institution apparently has been around for a long long time. It's retro with a cool vibe amazing antique style decor, americana style. You order at the counter and they call your name and the seating is booth style along with regular table and chairs. The staff were super helpful and friendly especially when trying to figure out how to choose. It's great value for money, not too expensive. The burgers with the hatch green chile were really really good. I ordered my fries which by the way are homemade, with Hatch green chile cheese sauce. A little kick for sure but worth every bite. Thankfully we eat at 1 PM and I did not need to eat for the rest of the night. If that tells you anything lol. Do not miss!!!

Yelp
We were driving through Hatch, NM (hot chili capitol of the world) when we drove by a line of people about 20 deep waiting to order. Based on that fact alone we decided we should stop here, and I am glad we did. First off what a fun place, it is almost a roadside attraction in its own right. They had a full brass band playing, they have a variety of statues and signs it is just kind of neat. Then there is the food. A+++, for real the food was worth the wait. There is only a handful of menu items and most of it is burgers or pulled pork but holy mackerel did I understand why there was a line. If you are on a road trip make sure to check this joint out!

Yelp
Sparky's is an adorable burger joint with lots of fun to offer! Make sure to take it the adorable decor inside. I stopped off at Sparky's in a road trip and it was a perfect place to let the dogs walk around! I would highly recommend the green chili burger! It is delicious!

Yelp
It's a good burger, but not great. I used to swear by this place but the last two times left a lot to be desired. The burger is still juicy, but the chile doesn't seem to have the kick it had in the past. Very expensive in my opinion for what u get. There are better burger options in the state for sure!

Yelp
Amazing! We stopped by Hatch, so my dad could buy some Hatch chilies. We decided to stop at Sparky's based on the Yelp reviews. Thankfully there was no line on a Thursday around 4:30 PM. My mom got the pulled pork sandwich with beans since they were out of brisket and she's not big on heat. I ordered the green chile burger with potato wedges. My dad ordered the double green chile burger with a corn chowder. Our burgers were juicy and delicious! The corn chowder and beans were very good, and the fries were basic. My dad was impressed that my mom finished her pulled pork sandwich, so that told us that it must have been delicious as well. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Completely unremarkable burgers. Dry with little flavor. French fries were decent. I was very disappointed we drove so far for this. The atmosphere was a lot of fun. Awful food. I've had better green chile burgers from Blake's lotta burger

Yelp
I met some friends at Sparky's on Thursday, February 4, 2021. We met at 11 am, for an early lunch. I'd never been here but was excited to try it based on all the good things I had heard. My friends told me all the previous times they'd visited here there had been a long line. I think due to our early timing (and Covid) they ordered quickly and my burger combo was waiting for me at the outdoor picnic table when I drove up. They ordered me a strawberry shake with sprinkles. The shake was thick, cold and utterly strawberry and I had to eat it with a spoon. Fries were fat and wedge shaped, and just a little too soft for five stars. The burger melted in my mouth with just the right amount of juicy grease. The green chile had the right bite with a touch of heat. The bun wasn't anything special but they melted a lot of cheese on top of that burger which liked a lot. I'd have to put Sparky's in my top 6 of best green chile burgers in the state. Just a little pricey at over $12 for the combo, but definitely worth the stop if find yourself in Hatch.

Yelp
My friend and I embarked on a green chile cheeseburger tour this past week. Our mission was to find the best green chile cheeseburger in the great state of New Mexico. We went to 11 different places and here are the results. Sparky's ranked #2 out of 11. I had been to Sparky's once before, and it was honestly one of the best burgers I had ever had in my life. This was our last stop on our journey before heading back to the airport. Things are a bit different now due to Covid, so the ordering and pickup was all done outside. I went with a Combo #1 which came with a green chile cheeseburger, side (wedge fries) and a drink. Ordered at the window, and about 15 minutes later picked up my container of food and took it to a picnic bench outside to dig in. Here is how it was....................... Green Chile Cheeseburger- This burger was delicious. Not AS good as the first time I went here, but due to Covid etc, I will cut them some slack lol. The burger itself is about a half pound patty, and they cook it how you want it (I got mine medium, and it came out perfectly pink). The burger is topped with green chiles and a slice of cheese. Simple and to the point. The burger was fantastic. The only complaint is that the bun started to break apart just a bit near the end of my burger. Not enough to destroy it (see my Buckhorn Tavern review), but a minor inconvenience. The fries were good, and the Coke was sweet. It was a great last stop on our journey, and it's definitely a place I will come back to if I am ever in the area again. The vibe of the place is awesome, and they serve up one of the best green chile cheeseburgers in the state. A definite stop and a place worth driving to, even if its a bit out of your way.
