15 Places in LA to Get an Amazing Meal Without Blowing Your Budget | Eater

"The newest culinary offering at the history Hotel Figueroa, Sparrow can get pricy at the upper end (not that Wagyu ribeye is going to be at dollar-menu prices anywhere), but if you stick to splitting a pasta dish and a pizza you and your plus-one will get plenty of food, an upscale dining experience and, importantly, a short walk to La Casita, the two-story bar overlooking the hotel’s iconic pool." - Vox Creative

From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place is something special. The bartenders are absolute rockstars—not only skilled and knowledgeable but genuinely welcoming. Their craft cocktails were perfectly balanced, creatively presented, and tailored to our tastes without even having to ask. It’s rare to find that kind of intuition behind the bar. The service across the board was impeccable. Attentive without being overbearing, every staff member made us feel like VIPs. Whether it was a quick refill, a thoughtful recommendation, or just their upbeat energy, they elevated the entire experience. The menu is another standout. With specialized food options that cater to a variety of dietary needs and preferences, it’s clear that care and creativity go into every dish. From bold flavors to beautiful presentation, everything we tried was outstanding—and clearly crafted with quality ingredients and attention to detail. If you’re looking for a place that delivers on every level—from drinks and dishes to service and atmosphere—this is it. Truly top-notch. Can’t wait to come back

Such a cute find! This place is cute and modern with living walls inside and out. They were open for brunch at 11 and is a great spot for girl time, dude time or me time. We were seated on the well appointed and heated patio with nature meets brunch, indoor/outdoor vibe. Ivan was our host and our server and also an absolute delight. Even in a summer downpour, the patio was cozy and cute. We ordered an americano, espresso martini, lamb queso-birria tacos and the brunch board. The tacos were amazing and the brunch board had a little bit of everything. Ivan was serving everyone on the patio but still managed to make us feel attended to! Definitely warrants a second visit.

Thank you for making our experience the best. Chocolate Flourless cake was amazing. The jam and berries made it better. We loved the guajillo chicken. The dish was perfect for 2. Delicious.

The back area of the restaurant was cool. Took them a few to get us seated. The bartender saw us waiting and didn't bother to get the hostess. But our server was great. Food was decent. We had brunch. Pricey for what was served. I would like to try dinner though. Fun spot for a girlfriends outing/dinner.

I came here for a work dinner where I booked the private dining room in advance. That didn't seem totally necessary for a weekday, but I wanted to be safe. The service was great. Very attentive to our needs as a large group and willing to accommodate a variety of questions and diets. The menu was perfect for our needs as well, with a host of appetizers and main courses. Oysters were fresh, the sliders were delicious, and the main courses were amazing. I got the roasted duck, which I recommend people to try. I didn't see the final bill, but I know our group had a fantastic time at the dinner. I'll be back here with my family at some point!

First off, Ivan was awesome and very considerate moving people around to avoid the hot sun and still meeting all my requests while doing so. I ordered the Brunch Board and a bottle of mimosa fresh squeezed and bubbly from Flama D’Or cava. The board arrived with fig jam yoghurt sockeye salmon berries prosciutto and deviled eggs and it felt elegant but chill. Staff were warm and chatty and the ambient deer‑moss wall with dim lighting made brunch feel like a cozy Pacific Northwest love letter with a smirk. I left wondering if Kirkland finally got what Seattle feels like.

Compared to the price and the ambience, the food is the only deduction, but that one should be the most important part of a restaurant, right? The wagyu tartare tasted like nothing, no seasoning, and the raw beef, which was raw but didn’t have a note on the menu, tasted a bit cowy, not so fresh. The steak was ok, but the halibut was absolutely overcooked, which I couldn’t believe that such a high level restaurant would happen. They even charged 3% more for the credit card payment!

*Brunch Review* The food and service were excellent 👌🏽 I highly recommend having them add crab to the Sparrow burger 🍔🦀 🐶 The restaurant is dog friendly which was such a treat! There were so many sweet dogs there.

Yelp
We went to Happy Hour today and had a really wonderful experience! We ate on the gorgeous flower filled patio. Servers were charming, funny and so accommodating. We loved our food choices - Wagu sliders and a lamb taco both delicious and memorable. Absolutely excellent experience!

Yelp
Excellent food and lovely atmosphere. Pleasant service. I recommend eating outside in good weather.

Yelp
This place is fairly new, has a nice vibe, great indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff. I'm glad they were able to add the parking lot from the business park for evenings, makes it much easier to find a spot. Food is delicious, we liked the duck, dino, chicken sandwich, lamb bierra and they got really nice wings. They are pretty much on the higher end of pricing and this time, we found a extra fee on the bill. I just hate when restaurants are expensive and then add 3% credit card fees on top of that. No one ever brings cash, so please do the math and work your fees into the pricing. It's definitely new, we didn't have that on our bill the first times we came in. Definitely a turn off for us if you can't figure out appropriate pricing to cover your bases. So a meh going forward for us...

Yelp
Sparrow is hands-down one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a cozy, modern vibe that makes you want to stay all day. The menu is a perfect blend of classic American comfort food with creative twists that keep things exciting. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender. If you're looking for a good app to try, the truffle deviled eggs were spectacular! I've also been for brunch and had the crab avocado toast which was amazing and had a huge pile of crab on top. The service was genuinely friendly without being overbearing. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they do, and it really shows. If you're looking for a place to relax, indulge, and enjoy really thoughtful food, Sparrow should be at the top of your list.

Yelp
I'm typically not a fan of American food but was pleasantly surprised by everything we ordered from sparrow. The entrées are very pricey for what they are but happy to see they have soup sandwich options that are half the cost. We made the mistake on going on Mother's Day so the service was a little bit delayed and one of the protein entrée took a little bit longer to grill. Overall, the ambience was really nice. The food was delicious and I would happily go back here, although probably not for an entrée.

Yelp
Sparrow is in the heart of Juanita and is a stylish restaurant with great views of the water. I came here for a dinner for a birthday dinner and was impressed by the ambiance. We decided to order the truffle pasta, risotto, clams and the prosciutto pizza. All of it was bursting with flavor and absolutely divine. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and our server gave great recommendations.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and it's a cute place. It's in the old J pub spot, but redone you couldn't tell. Food was great I split the crab toast and deviled eggs. I will say the food was a little bit more expensive than I thought.

Yelp
The food and ambiance are wonderful! Learned about this place a couple weeks ago and have already visited several times - brunch, happy hour, and dinner. Everything we've had so far exceeded expectations!

Yelp
Love this place. Off from the beaten path in Kirkland. Fantastic good and service. large outdoor seating and covered desk. The interior is dark and sensual. Great for dates and gatherings.

Yelp
This restaurant is a good pick ! Great cocktails and the food was awesome. Staff is friendly and attentive. I recommend the bread pudding - it was delicious ! Nice cool vibe , good date spot !

Yelp
Terrible billing. Kept brining 500-600 bottles of wine without warning the host. Bad and cheap business practice.

Yelp
Really cute brunch spot! I loved the outdoor atrium on a cool spring day- getting light but staying warm. I look forward to the outdoor patio in summer! There is quite a bit of parking but I imagine even that might fill up on a busy day. There are many choices for brunch and I enjoyed the crab avocado toast. The doughnut holes were a good item to share as a sweet end to the meal. Will definitely go again!

Yelp
Overall: nice and clean aesthetic. Uninspired food and regrettable service. They did offer to comp several of our items though, so increasing to 3 stars. Food: 2/5 Banana pancakes were a little dry and lacked significant butter flavor. One order came without syrup. Strange. Steak, eggs and hash browns had an overcooked steak and seemed very uninspired for the price. The breakfast board was decent, no complaints. The Napoleon was overwhelmingly custard/cream and next to no pastry, which led it to be highly imbalanced in flavors. Service: 2/5 I think they were understaffed. We ran out of water several times. The food took a really long time to come out. Ambiance: 4/5 Nice touches of nature with plant walls!

Yelp
Second time here and have to say expected a lot from such good yelp reviews here... The good: the server Michael was amazing , and could not have been any nicer or more attentive. The bad: THE FOOD! Tuna tar tar had an extremely fishy and unpleasant odor and taste along with the color as you can see in the poster photos. The "Foccacia" bread is a sad far cry away from craft Italian homemade bread... what we got was bread that was reminiscent of a a frozen section market. We also had the muscles and sausage which my gf had one really fishy sandy muscle which ruined the rest of that dish. Nothing taste like it had any effort or love. The laughable bread of discount market loaf quality and the fact that every single dish came ice cold. Even the soul was Luke warm at best and I hate to complain if something has potential. This place needs a vibe boost and culinary refresh to the menu or even hire a baker who knows how to bake simple bread. The desserts were the best part and the flourless chocolate cake and banana bread pudding were the ONLY saving graces for this restaurant. Would love to return when things change and they take themselves more serious as an upscale restaurant

Yelp
The food was decent but was very overpriced, if not for the price I may come back, but the food did not justify the price here. The ambiance was nice but there was a manger turning the volume up one minute and the next minute an employee would turn the volume of the music down, it just seemed a bit unprofessional and odd for a place this nice, and it was noticeable during our whole meal. The presentation of the food was nice and so was the staff, no complaints there There was also an added gratuity for our party size which was quite a bit, the price of a whole other meal, so this kind of rubbed me the wrong was as a tip is usually based on discretion. Then there is a line to add more of a tip (in addition to the added gratuity) which felt a bit rude. Overall good food and atmosphere, but could improve on a few things.

Yelp
Went for Sunday brunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. I ordered the crab avocado toast and thought it was pretty good, except the bread was really hard to cut with a knife. This dish is listed under small plates so it is definitely small but very tasty. My friend ordered the shrimp salad and I though the portion was a good size. I had coffee and was surprised they did but comeback with a refill. I had to flag the server. To be fair, it got pretty busy. They've done a great job with the decoration, the patio is super cute and spacious, plenty of shade and it feels private which is nice. Definitely recommend it and will probably comeback for dinner or lunch.

Yelp
Decided to give Sparrow one more try before moving out of the area and we were once again disappointed. Not sure what happened around this time last year, but the quality of the food has dipped way below what it was when they first opened. The only thing saving the experience for us were the drinks and our waiter, Ryan. I will say for a Tuesday it was slow, but they still were short staffed. There were tables waiting an extremely long time to speak to a sever and even had to go to the bar to ask for someone. I ordered the scallops and pork belly with polenta, which used to be my go to dish. The scallops were undercooked, rubbery and under seasoned. The jam overpowered a lot of the other flavors. While the pork belly was mostly dry. Too bad to see what has happened to this once unbelievably delicious spot, especially since they have done so many upgrades to the outside patio. Was hoping there would be some redemption!

Yelp
I love that there's enough street parking nearby just in case you don't find a spot right at the entrance. I had been meaning to try this place for a while now...so glad hubby and I came here for a lunch date during the week. It wasn't busy so we got to decide where we wanted to be seated. Our server was super friendly and helpful when it came to us to deciding what draft beer we wanted to try. I got the mushroom burger and it was so good and filling! Highly recommended! Ambiance is cute, and the restaurant is spacious. I'll be back!

Yelp
Had brunch here after the Shamrock run. They were mostly empty. There is a nice sized covered patio with heaters where they sat us. We had a variety of items from breakfast burrito to pancakes to chilaquiles to biscuits and gravy. The potatoes were a big hit. Everyone liked their food but we had to ask a few times for coffee refills. Service wasn't super fast but the waiter was nice. Coffee was good. One member noticed a cracked glass halfway through their drink (cracked all the way around the glass) and while they offered to replace it (the person declined) they also didn't deduct it off the bill. Hopefully there were no shards in the drink itself. The ambiance inside was nice. Hard to believe it was once a dive bar. Interesting drinks, and while brunch prices were ok if a little on the high side, be aware that dinner entrees are a lot more.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wonderful brunch here a few months ago with family. Beautiful space the living walls a gorgeous we sat inside but there is cute seating in the back outside. Was nice that it was walking distance from my sister's place. First off we loved our waitress very attentive and informative when we asked questions about the menu. Two of us got the lamb birria chilaquiles, one got the chicken and waffle, and the last got the avocado toast with side of fruit. Also shared the doughnut holes which are made to order. Portions were generous and avocado toast had more crab on it than we expected. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I have a friend that visits often for dinner. definitely would be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
First a quick shoutout to our awesome hostess Gabbie, little bit of a wait out front but nothing too bad as we came in for brunch. There was plenty of room mostly indoor but they do have a good looking outdoor patio that we may try in future. Let's get to the food Donuts 9/10 fried dough what more could you want weeeeeell I'll tell you, they were fluffy and warm and all the goodness but they either need more powdered sugar (rolled not dusted) or better accompanying sauces (not maple and condensed milk) oohhh or sugar cinnamon Chicken and waffles 10/10 loved how well done both these items were done I do wish the chicken was seasoned more but not enough to take away from the entire experience Chilaquiles 10/10 perfect amount of savory punch for the morning. Vibrant and tasty the tortilla's were nice and crisp and in no way soggy before they came to the table Will be back for sure

Yelp
We had a fabulous brunch here last Sunday. Really nice, modern and relaxing atmosphere. Love the booths! Neat open bar - with big screens. Awesome patio. Menu was extensive and very interesting. Not just the same old same old. Very friendly and efficient service. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Our first time here and I am so happy that that I chose to come to Sparrow The avocado toast with crab is delicious + the cascioppo link sausage really hits the spot. Oh did I mention the poached egg was perfectly cooked Chicken and Waffle is definitely delicious especially love it when the waffle comes out nice and crispy on the outside and not soggy. We both had coffee. In my opinion the coffee was a little too fruity for me and the waitress was very accommodating she switched out my coffee to tea. Thank you Love ambience the moss walls were really nice very welcoming Love this place looking forward to comeback and try the dinner menu Best brunch experience

Yelp
I love the food and ambiance ! We were seated in the dining area and the seats were comfortable. The service was great as well I just can't remember our server's name. The creme brûlée was delicious and freshly made ; still warm! If you order the sliders and are an onion lover like me I suggest you order them with both raw onions and pickled onions! yumm

Yelp
A group of 6 went on a Thursday night and it was pretty empty, except for the outdoor seating which is where we sat. We made reservations about 2 weeks in advance and it was wide open. We had: 1) spicy guacamole - 3/5. Not that spicy and not that special. 2) truffle fries - 3/5. Good portion, but not crispy enough. 3) mussels with sausage - 4/5. Good flavor, but the mussels were small. Would've liked plumpier mussels and less sausage. 4) shishito peppers - 3/5. Couldn't quite figure out how they cooked them. Maybe they were baked in the oven? I prefer them blasted over fire. 5) chopped salad - 3/5. Not memorable. 6) steak - 4/5. Really tender, but salty. 7) rigatoni - 5/5. Best of the bunch. Yummy flavor. 8) scallop & pork belly - 4/5. Pork was a little dry, but scallops were tender and grits (?) were good. 9) donut holes - 4/5. Yummy. 10) crème brûlée - 4/5. Nice crispy sugar top. We all shared this along with a bottle of Prosecco. With tip, came out to $77pp. The entrees are on the pricy side, but service was good as was the ambiance so I'll give it a 4. Food alone would've been 3.

Yelp
Sparrow Burger: ordered medium, it was well done. Egg was well done. Typically, a "hangover burger" should have the egg over easy so it's dripping down the sides when you cut into it. Overall, very little flavor to the well done burger - even with the aioli added very little flavor. Fries were excellent. Biscuits and gravy: good flavor. Ambiance: 5stars. Love what they've done to the place but they need to work on quality of preparation.

Rachel L.

Yelp
We had the Raspberry Fields Forever and a Pretty money to start with avocado burrata. The drinks were good, although a little sweet (I just like a more tart cocktail) and the burrata delicious! We had the rigatoni and the pork chop as entrees with a Passarella and a Brand and Brine. Both delicious with food, the Passerella being still a LITTLE sweet but again, personal preference. The food was very good, quite well seasoned. Pasta delicious and pork chop very well cooked and the mustard apple sauce delicious. Would get again!

Yelp
We went to Sparrow for the first time during Seattle restaurant week and had a great night there. They have a small parking lot on site but there is a commercial property right next to the restaurant and allows restaurant customers to park there after 5 PM on weekdays and all day on weekends so parking really isn't a problem if you go there for dinner. Our server was Ryan and he was great, energetic, checking in us just the right amount. We ordered from the Seattle restaurant price fixed menu along with spicy guacamole from their regular menu. The food was good. Their price point is also just right so it was good value without sacrificing taste. I didn't pay attention to their regular menu price to say if that is also true. Some improvements they could make in their food such as the sea scallops we had. It was a little overcooked and became a bit chewy. Overall I would say this is a great place to visit and we plan to visit again for brunch in the near future.
google avatar

Julie H.

Yelp
Such a friendly and attentive service we got and what a pleasant atmosphere! We thought the appetizers were a great start but the entrees did it for us! Everything was so delicious! First time here for dinner and would recommend to everyone!
google avatar

Sheri H.

Yelp
Had a business dinner here. They take reservations which was really useful. I have pics from the full group of what they had. Shared the chips and guacamole and hummus with the group. I had a pasta entree that was on the small side - glad I had some of those appetizers. No dessert for me. Everyone reported they enjoyed their food. The only cons were the ladies restroom is really cramped where the stall door is 2 inches from your face and my colleagues were told they were the first to arrive when I had already checked in and was standing right behind them in the dining area. Would come back and try other dishes. Server was attentive and patient with those who were indecisive. Small parking lot. Construction happening next door, but there is street parking available.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was impressive. Service was decent. Ambiance is great. Area of improvement: rather than bringing out all items at the same time, space them out just a tiny bit. We ordered a bunch: Charcuterie board Lamb birria Burrata Focaccia bread Shishito peppers Garlic steak fries Steak sandwich Kids chicken tenders Creme brûlée Marionberry sorbet Flourless chocolate cake I would return but will ask specifically that they pace rather than bringing all at once and crowding the table.

Yelp
These guys open in the summer of '23 but I was so busy, I did not have a chance to check them out even though they're only a few blocks from my house. My wife had a girls night if you weeks ago so I finally decided to stop in and I'm sure glad I did. The decor is upscale, but not stuffy. Sparrow works as both a nice neighborhood hangout as well as a date spot. They have a nice lounge and a large dining area. The menu is really diverse, meats, pastas, salads, and seafoods and large selection of appetizers. I was really surprised by the variety given this is a neighborhood restaurant. Since it was just myself I went with the lamb quesabirria (QB) and a side of roasted vegetables. I cannot believe how delicious the QB was. Wonderfully seasoned and super tender Anderson valley lamb leg, that the bartender said they braise for many hours. This was shredded put inside a homemade corn tortilla green and white onions, Mexican cheese, then then melted together. It's served the traditional way like down in Tijuana with a bowl of the broth that you can spoon over the QB or dip it in. The broth was wonderfully delicious I ended up putting it on top of my QB's to stop up all the deliciousness. I would certainly come back and order this again. The roasted veggies were good as well nothing spectacular about them just basically done tossed in olive oil and seasoning then oven roasted made a good side dish to the QB. I love my beer as well Ruben's roasted Porter which had really nice coffee and chocolate undertones. The bartender was very nice too. I had first ordered the Stout, since that's what I usually like but it was extremely bitter; way too bitter for a stout. Sso he changed it out for me and no charge. Great place I highly recommend and I cannot wait to come back with my wife to have a date night here, in the dining room.

Yelp
Searched for "cozy" restaurants on the Eastside and was suggested this place. It did not disappoint! Lovely atmosphere, tables far enough apart that you felt intimate at your own table and did not constantly get distracted by your neighbors. Low light in general, but bright enough at the table itself that you didn't feel like you were dining in the dark. Service was good, our server attentive and just the right amount of chatty/friendly vs "leaving you alone to your company". Food was good, nothing spectacular. Maybe a little on the pricier side of what it could actually live up to. The menu feels a little random in its composition, not really settling on a cuisine or theme. But if you want a wide range of options to choose from, this works.

Debra O.

Yelp
Loved this place. Very comfy seating and good food. Price was a bit steep- but it is Kirkland.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Nice place with lots of out door seating serving edible food. However, basing one's expectations on their their high prices and nice sounding menue, it is just disappointing. The braised duck ($46 before taxes and tip) was advertised with a cherry-port wine sauce that sounded enticing, but was just sweet. And the dish came with way to little sauce for the meat and the 15 mini potatoes, that had no other spices.
google avatar

Lesley D.

Yelp
The atmosphere is everything at Sparrow! We have needed a solid outdoor spot in this area for ages and Sparrow delivers! The building is unassuming when you pull up, but they have transformed this one-time dive bar into an upscale oasis! I came in here for happy hour which got me $2 off my beer and $3 off their shareable plates. We tried the lamb birria (nothing special) and the buffalo wings (surprisingly tasty). I could definitely see this place becoming my go to brunch spot!

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday night for dinner at 7PM and there was no wait and lots of tables available. We were a table of 5 and sat in the back covered patio area. I got the A Path In The Wild mocktail for $12, love the bitter notes but was also refreshing with the lemonade. It was also a pretty orange colour. For appetizers we got Mussels and sausage - the mussels were delicious and plump. It tasted really fresh and was probably my fav dish Burrata and avocado - solid, can't go wrong and big serving Tuna tartar - big chunks of tuna, seasoned well and served with taro chips For mains I got the pork chop. It was a big hearty serving. The mashed potatoes were buttery was delicious. The pork chop itself was good, does the job, ever so slightly on the dry side but not bad. The appley miso sauce it came with was really good and added so much flavour. For appetizers we got Banana bread pudding - warm, dense and light at the same time and served with vanilla ice cream. love the warm and cold Donut holes - super light and airy, great for sharing and nibbling Creme brulee - solid, really creamy and was a fan favourite at the table Overall the food was solid but frankly forgettable, it was good but I'm not running to come back with the other choices in the area but they do allow dogs in the back patio area!

Yelp
This updated review is a bit belated. My good friend Sammar and I went to Sparrow for dinner last August, so about 5 - 6 months ago now. I continue to be highly impressed by the outstanding service that I have personally received here. Our waiter was the sweetest man. Sammar had some minor stomach issues (she was having those stomach issues earlier in the day as well, so her stomach issues were unrelated to the food at Sparrow) and she was in the restaurant's bathroom for a bit of time. I texted her to see if she was okay, and she texted back that she would be fine but she just needed a few moments. Our waiter (I wish I remembered his name, he looked maybe Italian or Spanish and he had a bit of an accent) asked me how my friend was doing, and if she was okay. He seemed genuinely concerned about her. When I explained the situation to him, and let him know that her stomach issues were not related to Sparrow's food at all, he actually asked if he could bring Sammar a complimentary yogurt which might soothe her stomach. When she came back to the table, I asked her if that was something that she would like, and she was so surprised that our waiter had been so thoughtful. So was I! She enjoyed her yogurt, and she said that it did help a bit with her minor stomach issues. Our waiter was incredibly attentive without being intrusive, thoughtful, welcoming, and on top of things. I felt so appreciative for how well he took care of both of us. I rarely write this, but if I could give more than 5 stars for the service, I most definitely would! 11 stars! Haha. I am gluten-free due to a medical condition, and Sammar does not eat pork. The waiter was attentive to this, and it was marked on our bill when it came. We appreciated that. Sammar and I shared the Ceviche for our appetizer (pictured). It was wonderful. Sammar had a Salmon dish for her main. I don't have a picture of it, and it's not on Sparrow's most current menu - I checked their recent menu to try to find it, in order to remind myself what it was called, but it is not on there, and I cannot recall the name of it without a reminder. Despite her stomach issues, she really enjoyed both our shared appetizer and her main. I had the Scallops and Pork Belly for my main (pictured). It is my personal favorite thing on Sparrow's menu thus far. I love the combination of seafood with a small amount of pork, and the polenta in that dish is superb. Sammar doesn't mind if I eat pork when we eat out; I wouldn't eat it in front of her if it bothered her. I do have a few vegan friends, one of whom cannot stand to watch other people eat meat in front of her, and I do respect that. This is the second time I've had this main at Sparrow, and it was equally delicious both times. This was my first time eating indoors at Sparrow - the first time I ate here, I ate on the outdoor patio, which is beautiful. The second time I ate here, I got take-out. And this third time, I ate indoors. The booths were comfortable, and the indoor ambience is lovely, with slightly dimmed lighting and high booth backs which made it easy to be present with my dining companion without getting distracted by the other diners sitting near us. I personally prefer dining outdoors here. I found the ambience on the outdoor patio to be so relaxing and uplifting. However, dining indoors was very nice though. Overall I am very happy with my experiences at Sparrow, and I would not hesitate to return.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late morning brunch on a Saturday, enjoyed a breakfast burrito, and split an order of biscuits and gravy with my partner. The burrito was tasty and goodly sized, served with a nice light sauce, but the hashbrowns were just average. The biscuits served with the gravy, however, were delightful - light, fluffy, and very unlike the usual heavy versions often served with this entrée. The only issue was with our server, a 40-something bearded gentleman who seemed to have something of a chip on his shoulder this day, apparently blaming us for daring to take up his time ordering. However, his colleagues made up for this by being friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Overall, a good experience, but, for the price, outside of the biscuits, there was nothing particularly special that will get me back there very soon.

Yelp
Beautiful interior, nice staff, great food! I take issue with businesses who pass on the credit card transaction fee but they aren't the only ones doing it these days...

Yelp
Nice decor and atmosphere but to be honest I wasn't a huge fan of the food. I may be uncultured but new American is always a little hard for me to grasp. It felt like a random assortment of dishes with none of them being as good as what I might find at their respective cuisines. Service was a little slow/not what I expected for the price point, but it might just be an expensive neighborhood

Yelp
Rita R was amazing! Attentive but also let us enjoy our brunch in peace. We've had wonderful experiences there, highly recommend! I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had the smoked salmon toast. Excellent! Thanks Rita!

Yelp
I searched long and hard for a place to celebrate my birthday. Upon recommendation from some friends, I went with Sparrow. I made reservations for 5 online via OpenTable. That process went smoothly. I included a note that it was celebrating a birthday but nothing special was done during our meal to celebrate that.... As for the food, we started with the Sliders and the Garlic Fries. Delicious!! The fries were crispy and the sauce was delicious. The sliders were okay, tender but not very flavorful. For entrees, I got the Rib Eye steak with mashed potatoes (an extra charge), Steak was cooked nicely and the potatoes were creamy and moist. However, an $6 charge for potatoes on a $58 dollar entree seems ridiculous. Everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. My party got the mac and cheese with crab, penne pasta, and sausage rigatoni. The portion size for the rigatoni was hmm shall we say petite...? Our server, Emma (I believe) was polite but quite awkward. Not sure if she is new, but she seemed uncomfortable.... stepping on our feet, and almost running into her coworkers carrying food. Our night ended on somewhat of a sour note.... our bill comes and we are going to be paying cash. Emma rushes over to inform us that as of January 1st, Sparrow no longer accepts cash. Personally, I think one of the most fallacious things an American establishment can do is turn away cash. While it made a skosh of sense mid-pandemic, there is no excuse for it now.

Yelp
What a weird dining experience. The highlights were: - mussels & sausage appetizer - our server was very friendly and did a good job Everything else: - $50 pork belly and scallops was the worst "high end" plate food I've ever received in my life. Just look at the photo; pork belly was dry and hard, scallops had zero sear and flavor, the jelly/sauce was cold. It looked and tasted like when your child wants to cook a nice meal for their parents for the first time. If this was $30 it would be severely overpriced. At $40, egregious. At $50, an absolute travesty. After looking at old photos of the same dish on Sparrow's yelp, it is pathetic what I was served. - Guac: $16 and the purple chips were stale. Yellow chips were okay.

Yelp
This restaurant has become a staple for my partner and myself. The staff is attentive and we enjoy the atmosphere, that there are several seating options available. We have sampled much of the menu and have found it consistently enjoyable.

Yelp
This was a fantastic spot to celebrate a belated birthday on the long weekend. It has a beautiful outdoor area with heaters. Our waiter (who we suspect was one of the owners) was patient and very attentive. The food was wonderful with great quality ingredients--we had rigatoni, birria, clam chowder, macaroni and cheese (which our son declared better than one of his favorites Southern spots in Portland), and a spicy fried chicken sandwich. The burrata with avocado was good as well but my favorite was the bread pudding which was scrumptious!

Yelp
Servers were nice, cool upscale little spot and the brunch was delicious. Ordered the spicy fried chicken, salmon puff pastry, brunch board, and French toast. French toast was really yummy and the smoked salmon paired nicely with the puff pastry. Brunch board was good and the fried chicken sandwhich was juicy and crispy
