Yelp
I never used to rate Spenard Roadhouse highly, mainly because i didn't see any french fries on the menu - they're all about tater tots, and I don't like those. I have been back sometimes where they did have french fries, so i know they do have them now.
Anyway, we went today, on a spur of the moment decision. It was exactly 5pm, and loads of tables available, and parking spots too, i think we were lucky to be there at that time.
We got seated right away. Had to wait a few minutes for a server, who brought us water. Another 10 minutes for another server to take our order - I got the wild mushroom, leek and ricotta ravioli, and he got tacos de carnitas, with super tots on the side, my drink was Innocent Love, and his was Rhubarbie.
And the place started rapidly filling up. The drinks were brought over, unfortunately I'd forgotten to tell them to hold the ice, and started getting brain freeze almost immediately. I enjoyed my husband's Rhubarbie more than i enjoyed my Innocent Love, which wasn't sweet enough for me, also i could really strongly taste the basil, and not too much grapefruit.
But my ravioli was absolutely delicious, also liberally studded with fresh basil, however it tasted right in the pasta, and the cream sauce was perfectly seasoned, the pasta was perfectly cooked, and the filling delicious.
There were 3 carnitas tacos, i asked husband how their carnitas compared to mine (I make carnitas frequently) and he said mine were better, and gave me a taste to show he wasn't just trying to butter me up. I had to agree with him. We both prefer my carnitas. The super tots, though not my favourite style of potato, were nice when dragged through a pool of my leftover cream sauce. He said he wouldn't get the carnitas again. I definitely would get the ravioli again. Superb.
And by the time we left, people were stalking parking spots, that's how busy and popular Spenard Roadhouse is, so i would suggest to time your visit perfectly.
