"This restaurant serves authentic southern Indian family recipes, with specials made by owner Nimmy Philips, a former electrical engineer, known around town as “the spice lady.” It’s located in downtown Juneau, it’s also a summertime destination for Indian visitors. It serves beer and wine." - Julia O'Malley

The food is incredible! The waitstaff were super nice. We had a bit of a wait for the food because it was really busy. Wasn't an issue, though - we had drinks, and it was a good time! The food was well worth the wait! My mouth waters just thinking about it, lol! I look forward to going back often! This is definitely a restaurant on my "must recommend" list.

Had too many nights of fish and chips, wanna switch up with some Indian cuisine. Their curries were good, not as heavy spiced and mild for children to enjoy.

This was an interesting Indian Restaurant. The location was clean and nicely decorated. The service was friendly although a bit slower than you would expect a normal Indian restaurant to take. The food was different. The Somosas were good although a bit spicier than one would normally expect. The chutneys that came with were very good but not thick. The rice was also very good and typical basmati. The butter chicken curry was not typical Indian. The color was very bland and although tasted good, was not what I would consider Indian cooking. Also, the Naan was not Naan. Was obviously not made in a tandoori oven nor was it levened. The bread reminded me more of a consistency of a biscuit with layers. If you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine, do not eat here. If you want Indian like cuisine, then this is a good option within Juneau.

If you are staying at the Baranof, this wonderful restaurant basically beckons you in, it’s right across the street. Relaxed atmosphere and excellent food. Good service. Have eaten here many times and enjoyed it each time.

We ordered, butter chicken and roti. The chicken comes with a small portion of rice as a side and it is enough for two people who are not starving. The food is below average and it is not authentic. One order for the Roti is charged $8.95 and although ‘8’ pieces come in one order, each piece is a quarter of one roti. Portion size is not their problem but the most disappointing part is it is not Indian ‘roti’ at all. It is doughy, fried and tastes like thick hard shelled tacos with ghee (clarified butter). The ‘butter chicken’ does not taste bad but it is definitely NOT butter chicken. There may not be other alternative of an Indian restaurant in DT Juneau but ho early, there are many other authentic alternatives in other cuisines.

Ordered Samosas for pickup. The tasted delicious! I will definitely be ordering again!

Google
Super clean and beautiful restaurant. The service was good. The food was fresh but there was no spice to it. I have eaten Indian food all over the lower 48. It is one of the main foods I eat on a regular basis. I guess some people are okay with bland Indian food and that is fine but for me it could have used some more spice and flavor.

Google
After dining here a couple of times, I have come to the conclusion that it is my favorite Indian food in all of Juneau. (Honestly, best I've had anywhere) The owner is super nice and added her own spin to popular dishes. If you ask for hot, it will be hot, so if you are white, be careful! The chicken tika is so tender that you can tell the chicken receives special treatments in the back when nobody is looking. Possibly a 24-hour marinate, or who knows, maybe it's been wined and dined before lights out. I would write more, but you all are hungry and found where you need to go, so get to spice... You will thank me later.

Yelp
The service was great but the pork vindaloo was DRY. The friendly owner came over and chatted briefly and told us about her plans to freshen up the menu soon. The atmosphere was njcely appointed but SO LOUD that we could hardly have a conversation without also raising our voices (and the dining room wasn't even full). The tables are tiny and the seats are not comfy. I'll go back to try more, but it is spendy and I'm sad to see some favorites like the lassis off the menu at the moment. Would like to see more combo plates so you can try more things without over ordering.

Yelp
I don't know what my expectation was for Indian food in Juneau, but I was craving some and came here with friends who had rave reviews about the place. I think that the portion sizes were good for family style and the price point seemed a bit on the higher side but that is to be expected in the area. My impression was that the authenticity did not quite seem to be there. I understood that uncertain nights they had live music and it has a nice café vibe to it. I think it's a solid option if I were craving Indian food because there are limited options but probably would not be my first choice for a dinner night out.

Yelp
Reservations recommended and they were willing to accommodate us without one :) cute place with a giant paper coated tree in the center and hanging flower strands and couches for overflow seating. Server was super friendly and sweet. The onion bhaji was amazing!!!! Perfectly crisp. The veggies were delicious and the butter chicken was also tasty and different than any other butter chicken I've had. Even the small size is a generous portion. Two small size entrees and one appetizer was enough for two of us and we still had some leftover.

Yelp
When you walk past this restaurant, you should be able to smell the lovely spices (hence the name) of the food being prepared and hear the live music playing inside the restaurant. This place is amazing to go to for dates or family dinners/lunches because of the shareability of the food and being able to try small amounts of everything! In general, the food tastes great and is a nice place to go to for Asian food in the middle of Juneau that doesn't center around seafood. However, their protein in their food is quite small (we got 3 little pieces of paneer in our masala and 2 chicken in another) and it was quite expensive for these curries as well. The owners and waiters were very kind though and helped us decide on what curries to get though, and they made very good decisions! Overall, it was a great experience to go to (I had dinner with my boyfriend's family) with the live music, but I don't know if I'd go too often if I was a local.

Yelp
We ordered what seemed like everything on the menu and ate family style. The Tara's were so helpful with ordering and mindful one our one person with food allergies knowing what everything was Pork vindaloo, chicken butter tikka, the special of the night, spinach and chicken, something with chick peas.... 3 chutneys, naan, and masala chai! It was all spectacular. Even with 4 of us and ordering the small portions we had so much left overs. If you're in town I guarantee you will love SPICE!

Yelp
This was really good Indian food. I got an order to go because the inside was packed! It took about 25-30 minutes for it to get ready, but worth the wait. I went next door and had a beer while waiting. I got the pork vindaloo. It had so much flavor. My only complaint is there wasn't much actual pork for how much it cost. Lots of potatoes. This part might have been my fault, I was tired after a long day at work but I didn't ask for a particular number of stars for my dish and it was a lot spicier than I would typically get. The gal who took my order didn't ask, so I'm not sure if they do different spice levels here or if it's just spicy! The garlic nann was phenomenal. The best I've ever had. It was so thick, I loved it! I was headed to Seattle the following day for work, so I put the leftovers in a glass jar and brought it home to my husband. He loves spicy and Indian food, and he loved it, but had the same complaint about there not being enough meat. I'll definitely go back and try something else on the menu and ask about spice level.

Yelp
Authentic flavors!! I was looking for a flavorful meal with a blend of veggies and protein and Spice Juneau was the right place for it. Perfectly spiced, carefully cooked authentic recipes from various parts of India. Nimmi was a great host and is very passionate about the Indian culture. We had the prawns fry , chicken 65, spinach and coconut shrimp curry. We liked it so much that we even packed a meal for dinner!

Yelp
This restaurant is a treasured secret! The decor, food, customer service is amazing. The owner is so involved in the community!

King L.

Yelp
The food is very good but it lacks the variety that you would find in Indian restaurants outside of Alaska. They only offer a few dishes. For example, they do not have Tandoori chicken which is a favorite of mine. I used to order it all the time at Indian restaurants when I lived in New York City.

Christopher B.

Yelp
Loved this place and it's always packed so you know it's goooooood! Make a reservation to make sure you can get in. I wanted something with kick and they delivered, but there's still room to crank it up. I wish they offered levels of spice and let the customer decide their fate. Excellent service, food, atmosphere. I just loved everything. Por potions are adequate for what you're paying and we had leftovers for two more meals. Next time I'm diving into the Naan a little more.

Yelp
The food is good, but the service is very poor - deliberately rude and condescending, making the evening an unpleasant and inhospitable event. This has happened several times. As a tour guide, I will not be dining there again or recommending it to any of my clientele.

SanJobu S.

Yelp
Went there on a slow day, only one other customer. Sat down, ordered food, more than 45 minutes later nothing. Asked server for update and he offered apology and said "they need to make the roti fresh" (takes 1 minute at home). Food comes out. Shrimp curry has no curry, just dry. We asked for shrimp curry again and he brings out some additional ingredients so we can "DIY" it at the table. Clearly we did not look happy so he offered to check with chef. Chef said he is too busy to speak with us. The food tasted okay- we will not return here.

Natesh S.

Yelp
Good food in the downtown, service and ambience were great. Pricey for sure, 10$ for a single garlic naan.

Kenneth P.

Yelp
Surprising place to find great Indian food but there it was. The service was very friendly as well.

Logan S.

Yelp
This is the best place in Juneau hands down. They must call it spice cause it's the only place in Juneau with flavor!!! The portions are generous as well it was so good I tried my best to finish and I couldn't. Everyone was all smiles and great service. Oh forgot to mention live music too.

Yelp
Last night in Juneau Alaska. Decided to hop across from my hotel to a place called spice Indian restaurant. I did not have high expectations, but I must say deliver deliver deliver! A big shout out to this place, which brought an amazing Indian food to Alaska, and even a little live music. The garlic, naan bread was creative and satisfying, but the real star of the show was the curries and subtle, but impressively delivered Indian cuisine. Check this place out if you want a unique meal in Juneau. Even in February they killed it.

Yuqi W.

Yelp
The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious - some of the best South Indian food I've had. I had the lunch special and got the palak paneer and chicken tikka, roti, raita, and a dessert for $20. 10/10 would recommend you checking this place out. It is also celiac safe.

Ben K.

Yelp
The menu has expanded since my last visit. Everything was delicious as always. The lamb curry is so good that you'll never explore the rest of the menu. Plan on a long dinner, it's slow cause they're crowded and it's delicious and worth the wait.

George L.

Yelp
We had quite the spread and unfortunately the amount of spice added leaves very little flavor of the actual food. It was extremely noisy due to the music being overly loud so talking to the person next to you was hard. The lighting is dim but nice but with lighting like this you can see the dust floating around and dropping in your drink. The tables were not cleaned properly because the top of mine was clean but the edge of the table was caked with food residue. The rice was crunchy and not completely cooked. The staff did not get the bills correct so we had to settle amongst ourselves.

Paulina R.

Yelp
This place is so delicious. Great staff. Nice ambience. Gets very busy so reservations are probably best. Their lamb curry had amazing flavor. Good wine and beer selection. Definitely a nice dinner option for a special occasion as it on the spendier side. Definitely worth the splurge.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Delicious! Just had the special Chicken Biryani and Roti and it was one of the best things I've eaten in a long time.

Yelp
I believe this is the best food to be had in Juneau. The nuanced flavors in each dish are delightful and the service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I've been sampling different dishes each time I go and they have yet to disappoint. Every side sauce chutney is brilliant but my favorites are the mint, the tomato was amazing, the hot/brilliant chili, and, well, all of them! The dosa (gluten free alternative to naan) was surprisingly good for those who can't do the wheat. Chicken tikka rocked, both lamb dishes were excellent with my favorite being the cubed lamb over the ground lamb. What else? Also had the cucumber raita, well, dang. I can't keep writing - I'm in a hurry to get back there! Reservations are often necessary - do it! p.s. I'm sorry that one reviewer had an unpleasant experience due to the hustling of staff and a kitchen staff working hard to keep up. My hope is that this person will give it another go.

Cam R.

Yelp
Service from Tara was just spot on. We had baked samosa filled with potato and peas with a for-die-for mint sauce and the lamb "melt-in-your-mouth' curry. So good! For Juneau to have authentic Indian food (7,000 miles away from India!!), how lucky are they. My only disappointment -- the nan bread was crispy versus the softy and chewy that I expect and love. Overall, had a lovely meal. Thank you Spice!

Juneau J.

Yelp
Delicious Indian-inspired food, great service and atmosphere. More British curry house than authentic cuisine, but still recommended. I've tried everything on the menu and it's all well-done. My go-to favorite is the murg saagwala.

David M.

Yelp
New place, looks like they took over from Saffron. Great service and ambience. The food selections have been generated by the owner's family heritage and it shows. The offerings have their own flair and a delightful departure from the standard Indian restaurants with the same old menu. Thank you very much, for bringing this into town, truly a delight.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
The food here was very good however we did have to wait 1 hour and a half for the food to arrive. It took about 20 minutes just to get the roti which I assume does not take much time. I would not recommend this restaurant if you have crunched time for boarding a cruise. The food was excellent if you are looking for some great Indian!

Greg A.

Yelp
This is some of Juneau's best food, a real treat! The menu is inspired by the owner's Indian heritage, and her extraordinary skill in the kitchen. The dining room is comfortable and relaxed, beautifully decorated, and well run. I highly recommend!

D J C.

Yelp
I hate Indian food, but this place was fantastic. Great service. Live music. Quality all the way.

Cassidy D.

Yelp
Great place. Amazing food. They have live music " instrumental" that could be a touch loud ( they could use some sound dampener on the walls an ceiling ). Friendly and helpful staff with a nice atmosphere. I had the pork vindaloo with saffron rice. Sooo good.

Marissa B.

Yelp
The front of house was running around like crazy - waiter was tending bar, hostess was taking orders and cook was clearing tables (apparently instead of cooking) total disaster. For the first time I can remember, I had to walk out - was thankful nothing paid had been brought out after 45+ minutes of waiting with empty water and no update. Unacceptable for customers & staff. Management needs major improvement

Yelp
Wonderful Indian restaurant in Juneau. We really enjoyed the Dahl and Rice. The Dahl was well done but the rice and Raita were the best i have ever had in a restaurant. The lady owner is an inspiring story in her own right. Well Done. Who knew the best Dahl and Rice in the world are made in Alaska? Thx from two cruise ship customers looking for some great home cooked food.
