"From the street, Spicebox, a plant-based Indian restaurant in Walthamstow, looks like a pokey takeaway spot (albeit painted in punchy purples and pinks). But the restaurant explodes into an airy dining space which has got cosy family meals and casual catch-ups written all over it. A combination of the amber and fuchsia cushions (the same colour as their pickled onions), and friendly staff means this is a place where you can have an unhurried, relaxed time. The pani puri and tarka dhal should definitely be on your table, but the naans are nothing special so go for loaded bhaji instead. It's a small space so book ahead for evenings when the thrum of chatter is at its loudest and friends nick the best bits of the thali specials off shared plates." - Sinéad Cranna

"Don’t be fooled by the narrow doorway and takeaway-style countertop by the door, Walthamstow’s Spicebox explodes into an airy dining space complete with a jewel-toned pile of amber and fuchsia cushions (the exact same colour as their pickled onions), hanging plants, and skylights. Grace Regan’s plant-based Indian cooking is bright and feel-good, just like the space it’s served in. Don’t leave without trying the tarka dhal." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver, Rianne Shlebak, Sinead Cranna

It's a little restaurant, and service was great. Attentive and friendly! The food took some time to come out. We had the samosas, which we really good crispy while the filling has peas and good flavour. We also had the brunch special dosa that came with potato filling and dhaal, good balance of flavour. I also had the symple sausage wrap which was ok, but wouldn't recommend. The naan could have been more fluffy. Masala chai also hit the spot!

Excellent service, mediocre food. I waited three days before writing this review, trying to decide whether I should write one at all. Reason being, the service, especially by the lady with the American accent (my apologies if I've got that wrong), was excellent. They even removed one of the dishes from our bill as we didn't like it. Unfortunately, that's as good as it got. The food wasn't great and the restaurant has not catered for families with children as there was nothing, food nor drink, that any "normal" eight year old could would happily consume. There was no sparkling water or lemonade on the menu. My daughter spent most of the evening picking at her food and asking for more sugar in her fresh lime soda. We visited here as a party of seven, all Indians, and we all felt that by trying to give North Indian dishes a western twist, that they'd lost the essence of Indian street food. Also, we all felt that the prices of dishes were that of what you'd find in a non-vegetarian restaurant, say for a chicken dish. This place is great to visit if you want to try something different. Perhaps bring a date here. Three stars for the excellent customer service.

I absolutely loved the brunch at Spicebox so returned to try their £13.50 Thali on Wednesdays! The cashew and coconut korma is my favourite! It’s creamy, seasoned to perfection and has just the right amount of heat to it to warm your tastebuds. Pea and potato samosas are a must too! The service was excellent and friendly! Please be aware that there is a £10pp if you cancel your reservation.

A really nice experience all around. The food was super tasty and filling. The service was just on another level. Our server was the sweetest, attentive, caring and funny. Kudos to her! (Visited the Leytonstone branch)

Food was absolutely amazing! Service was great! Love this place, so underrated it should be a huge chain by now but love the charm. Cookbook is incredible too! Everyone needs to go go go!! Well done Grace!

Great modern interpretation of Indian cuisine, amazingly rich vegan fair with umami out the ears for everything on the menu. The Shroom Keema is incredibly rich and delicious, and the Dhansak is very bright and tasty. The naan was perfect for dipping into both, and the Lassi was perfectly refreshing to balance the saltiness of the mains. Definitely pricy for the portions, but all the food is very filling, so we left full. Highly recommend a try for anyone into veg modern Indian.

Loved it!! Absolutely delicious food served by a really passionate team. They've created a lovely little restaurant with a great Indian vibe in this corner of North East London 👌 Went for brunch and had the Thali (with an extra paratha) and doffles (dosa waffles) with fried soya 'chicken'.

Brilliant vegan indian. Options of classics for those that miss them being vegan, Korma/Masala. That wasn't the draw for me and the rest of the menu had more than enough to suit my taste! Also a tasty own brew on the drinks menu. Have grown to love a roti over the years but had the vegan naan and was very pleased! Service was brilliant and attentive (but not over the top thank goodness), happy and friendly staff also made a huge impact on the vibe. Planning to join the tiffin club and would definitely eat there again.
