Wow! I can't believe it took me this long to visit Spicer Orchards! This place is amazing! My daughter came here last October for a field trip and told me how wonderful it was, but it was not until a friend told me it was open during the summer that I finally had the chance to check it out for myself.
Currently it is summertime. I came for blueberry and raspberry picking, which I have always wanted to try. They charge you for either a plastic bucket or a small container to pick the fruit. No need to pay upfront, they will weigh it once you return. A tractor with hay bails picks you up at the front. They have separated areas so you may distance. It is all very clever and ingenious. They drop you off in the different fruit fields. We had a really wonderful time picking. Then you pay for the fruit once you return. I found the prices very fair. We had one bucket of blueberries and two containers of raspberries for under $7! It was very organized and easy. Everyone was super friendly and eager to make sure guests had a great time.
As stated on their website, you must wear a mask inside the buildings, but may take it off while you are social distancing and picking in the fruit fields. They also have hand sanitizer, sanitizing stations, and clean bathrooms with soap and water which are cleaned very often. A employee was consistently wiping down surfaces outside and cleaning the restrooms multiple times. They seemed to go out of their way to make an anxious customers feel at ease.
I love wine and cider tasting. I was ecstatic to find a winery here. They were also super organized and cautions about guidelines and distancing. They have an area to wait until you are able to come up to the bar, and you have a small amount of seating inside as well as outside. Their wines come from St. Julian and Fenn Valley, and they make their own ciders. They have an $8 tasting or a $15 tasting. They range from dry to sweet. It was a blast trying their flight. Or you can purchase their drinks by the glass. They also sell the wine and cider for low prices. I pineapple cider was so fresh and tropical, I really enjoyed that one! If you need snacks, they had chips, cheese and salamis for purchase to complete your tasting at a very fair cost. I am excited to come back here for more!
Near the fields they have a kid's play area with climbing structures, like a tree house, a tractor, and fun looking games, like bean bag toss. There are plenty of picnic tables and a petting farm with food for purchase. The kids loved the goats and spent quite a bit of timing buying feed and petting they animals.
I loved their country store!!! I bought way too much since everything was so stinking adorable! They have cute costume jewelry like earrings and bracelets. Lawn stakes. Fudge and candy. Wooden signs. Sauces, popcorn, and maple products. All at low prices which is probably why I went so crazy! They make your traditional cider donuts which come in five flavors plus!!! I got the old fashion, blueberry, cherry, powdered sugar, and cinnamon sugar mix. They also had gluten free and iced for an additional charge. The dozen was less than $9, which is great. We purchased some cider. It all tasted amazing, and pushes their donuts and cider to the top of my list of Cider Mill donuts. The kids also bought frozen apple and cherry cider slushies, which were only $2 each! Some places get you for $4 or more dollars, I know we are coming back several more time this year alone now that I know to put this in my cider mill rotation!
What a great day here in Fenton. I look forward to coming back soon!!!
