The Best Indian Restaurants In DC - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Whether you’re at L’Enfant Plaza to catch a train or deal with a parking ticket (IYKYK), SpiceX might just make the visit a highlight of your week. This fast-casual restaurant is a counter-service kind of situation, so you’re typically in and out quickly. The creamy butter chicken is their specialty, and with its generously sized tandoori chicken pieces, the $9.99 meal feels like a steal (and may result in leftovers). We always go for a side of samosas and extra rice, because you’ll wanna soak up every last bit of curry sauce." - mekita rivas, tristiana hinton, madeline weinfield

SpiceX is a must-try spot for Indian food, especially if you're near the Spy Museum. It's a quick-service place with fresh, delicious naan and generous portions. Their naan is amazing and 10/ 10. Plenty of vegetarian options too. We had the paneer saag bowl and a platter with dal makhni and veg curry. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. Perfect for a quick, tasty Indian meal!

If you are visiting the spy museum at Washington DC, and craving for an Indian food, look no further. It’s a hidden gem near to the metro station next to the spy museum. They’re new, but they are affordable, give huge portions of food and above all, they are really tasty.

I recently dined at SpiceX in Washington, located within a shopping complex at L’Enfant Plaza. I ordered butter paneer but was mistakenly served butter chicken, which tasted okay but wasn’t what I wanted. The fried momos were enjoyable, though. I found the dishes to be overpriced given the portions. This was the only Indian restaurant open nearby, so it was a convenient option at the time.

Great food, quick service! $15 for 2-entree plate with Masala rice topped with Chickpeas, Cucumbers, Tomato (maybe fresh onion). Flavorful vegetarian options. $3 Garlic or regular Naan bread seems expensive, but it is fresh, toasty, soft, delicious! Butter Chicken has great tomato vegetable flavor. Chickpea entree has cinnamon kick. Goat seems authentic with bones. Lamb and goat are $2 extra. When Lenfant gets overrun with high school tourists, this place is hidden so it is still quick!

We were visiting from NC and staying at the Hilton nearby, we were hungry so entered the L’ Enfant Plaza in search of food. I had already looked at a few places inside and ultimately decided on SpiceX. Got the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala bowls. Both were delicious. One thing I did note, was that my masala was just warm. I would’ve liked if it was hotter (temperature wise). I added the chickpeas and tomato/cucumber salad on top. Overall, enjoyed our bowls. Flavors were delicious. I would definitely eat here again. The location was clean and quiet/relaxed. Priced decently too!

We stopped here for a quick lunch in the AC. The butter chicken and basmati rice was cery authentic and tasty! We finished the meal off with a refreshing mango lassi. Definitely give this place a go! Some of the best Indian food I've had in DC.

I am a student tour director so I am in L'Enfant multiple times a week. This is such a hugely appreciated addition. It was amazing! I ate too much! Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

Google
Food was fantastic! I got the buttered chicken and chicken tikki masala (super white of me I know 🤷🏽‍♂️) and the garlic naan which was made fresh to order. Really good quick eat and budget friendly!

Yelp
Located in the L'Enfant Plaza. Came across this place while finding a lunch place during our DC visit. More of a take out place even though they do have couple of tables for dine in. Best part about this place is the food is very affordable. You can make your own bowls/plates; or pick up their de facto options. We picked up their Butter chicken masala and chicken tikka masala plates. Ordered a few Naans on the side as the quantity of the curries were more than adequate. Two plates were plenty for 4 people. We really enjoyed the food. Spice level was not up to my expectation, and it was very flavorful. Loved the food. The staffs were so kind and friendly. Service was very quick as you pick up your food from the counter itself. There's plenty of tables in the plaza to have an enjoy the food even though we got their dine-in tables! A recommended place!

Yelp
SpiceX Indian restaurant is a good local hidden gem located in L'Enfant Plaza food court. A good option for tourists frequenting the area, but I'm disappointed this Indian restaurant is hidden in L'Enfant Plaza. Mostly government workers and tourists in this SW area frequent L'Enfant Plaza and I wonder how much more successful this business would be if it were situated along the DuPont Circle, 18th Street, or Connecticut Avenue corridors. The customer service is good. The lady who took my order did a good job of explaining the entree vs rice bowl options. The portions are adequate and the menu options are not complicated. I ordered goat curry which was delicious. So was the plain naan. There is seating in the restaurant which is a plus because I do not believe any other restaurant in L'Enfant Plaza is enclosed and has indoor seating. Overall a good experience and I will return.

Yelp
Wow...this place is fantastic! I stumbled upon this quisk serve restaurant while staying at the Hilton for a conference. The food is amazing! The price is a little high for quick serve but this is DC and the food is awesome, so I'd say it's worth the cost. The staff were quick and polite and there was a good amount of options to choose from. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I went to SpiceX for lunch on a Friday. The service was fast. The inside is clean and there is space to eat in if you choose. I got the butter chicken with rice bowl. The food was delicious and the portion was generous. The price was reasonable for L'Enfant and DC in general. I'll be back. Sorry no pics as I was hungry!

Yelp
SpiceX is a tasty and flavorful option when craving Indian food! This fast casual spot in L'enfant Plaza has a wide selection of Indo-Himalayan food that is packed with delicious spices. I have popped in here on my lunch break to enjoy the Channa Masala bowl. Very well cooked and fresh. I appreciate the service being so speedy and accommodating to each customer. A bone I have to pick about this place is it's pricing. I do find it a bit overpriced and see this spot as more of a one in a while experience. Nonetheless, if you are craving some Indian classics, SpiceX is a fantastic option!

Yelp
I read the great reviews of SpiceX and was craving Indian food, so stopping here was a no brainer. SpiceX is like a Subway or Chipotle, but for Indian food - yes please! I decided to get masala rice with chicken tikka masala. The masala curry was good, but not great to me, but the chicken tikka was phenomenal! The way it was cooked and the seasonings were very good, that I wish I had just gotten that instead of the masala. The staff was very helpful and the flow of ordering was done with ease. I definitely recommend a stop if you are in the area and wanting some good, solid Indian food.

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch because I'd forgotten to pack one from home, and I was delighted at how creamy, smooth, and mild the butter chicken sauce was. The rice tasted very fresh. $12 for a big meal for a petite person. Very pleased and will definitely forget to pack a lunch on purpose next week. Tables are clean and comfortable.

Yelp
I don't have a lot of experience with Indian food. Theu were so nice and walked me through everything. The butter chicken was one of the best lunches I have ever had. What a blessing to have it at L'Enfant!

Yelp
Lots of affordable great options. In a poor location in food court. Friendly staff and realistic pricing. Good was very good but not medium spice. Mild. Overall highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Shoutout to our local community heroes! This was our first time in L'ENFANT PLAZA. We walked the whole shop area and we doubled back around to this Indian food venue! We were so happy to be able to find a skill set of flavors at this level of mastery. The naan was so airy and warm. Hubby loves garlic naan and this was perfect. He also loved being able to get his favorite chilli chicken. He got a double portion. We could really taste the LOVE in this rich dish! I got the lamb which was tender and flavorful! I also ordered a side of spinach, a side of cooling yogurt, and the cucumber tomato salad. I was tempted by the mango lassi which it's fresh mango purée! But I always get greedy and drink too much lassi and get too full to finish my food. Good call! The food was so rich and delicious that all my Foodie senses were happy! The staff was very friendly, outgoing, and patient. It was nice that the plaza was literally connected to our Hilton hotel room. I will be sure to let my family know to order from here when in the area, because they appreciate quality Indian cuisine :)

Yelp
I love the build-your-own concept in any form, and SpiceX does it so well. Total hidden gem. The butter chicken is absolutely delicious. Be sure to grab garlic naan with your order, because it's always fresh!! I haven't sat in the restaurant proper, but the seating seems like the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of L'Enfant. Great spot!!
