The 25 Best Birthday Dinner Restaurants In London

"Use this comfortable Korean restaurant in Golders Green as it’s set up to be: a carnivores’ hangout that won’t break the bank. The room can fit groups big and bigger, and is often filled with every generation. It’s a living room-like restaurant where manners are fluid. Eager chopsticks snap at banchan, backseat MasterChefs advise on the grill, and matriarchal types wield meat-cutting scissors like an extension of their hands." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

Spicy Grill - Review - Golders Green - London - The Infatuation

"In the heart of Golders Green, Spicy Grill is a restaurant for meat-lovers over anyone else. We first came to this Korean BBQ spot during our student days, to split platters of tender rib-eye and moreish spicy pork belly, wipe brows from the punchy ddukbokki, and agree to return the same week. Not a tonne has changed since then, and that’s a good thing. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Use Spicy Grill as it’s set up to be: as a comfortable, carnivores’ hangout that won’t break the bank. The generic, wood-heavy room can fit groups big and bigger and is often filled with every generation. It’s one of those living room-like restaurants where manners are fluid and many hands rule. Eager chopsticks snap at banchan, backseat MasterChefs advise on the grill, and matriarchal types wield meat-cutting scissors like an extension of their own hands. Service isn’t always as attentive as it could be, so this kind of attitude goes a long way. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Spicy Grill’s menu is almost as big as the groups it attracts. There are 50-something items, and the KFC—crisp, tender, and on the bone—is a cut above the rest. Other classics, like a thick seafood pancake or japchae, are just fine. Instead focus on the BBQ. The LA galbi is tender and the marinade savoury. Packed into a lettuce leaf with a smear of ssamjang, it makes for a dreamy, crunching mouthful while you let someone else take the reins on conversation. Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Banchan An order of all the little side dishes is always recommended at a KBBQ spot and it’s the same here. Every variety of kimchi is good and suitably punchy, from the cabbage to the radish to the cucumber. Nothing cuts through a fried or meat-heavy meal like a small supporting cast of vegetables. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Seafood Pancake The good news is that this haemul pajeon is generously filled with plump prawns, tender slices of squid, bouncing octopus tentacles, and plenty of spring onion. The bad news is that it’s a little on the thick and cloying side for us. If it was thinner and crispier, it would be perfect. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Mixed BBQ This platter of LA galbi, pork belly, and chicken will see you right. We’d recommend asking for both the pork and the chicken to come marinated in spicy sauce, and get some lettuce and spring onion on the side. The short rib is particularly good." - Jake Missing

It was such a hot day today, but the cold noodles just hit the spot for me. It was so delicious and refreshing! The fried chicken wings are crispy and the spicy sauce on it is just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness. Spicy pork bibimbap is tasty too. Price is also reasonable.

The service is very good. But the food is just ok. Recommended for a quick bite. Limited gluten free options so if you have a dietary restriction. Find a sushi spot instead.

Think of perfectly crispy chicken wings glassed with superb Korean sauce without being soggy at the same time - SUPERB. Spicy rice cake , powerful, Jab Chae one of the best, Chicken bulgogi flavorful. Good value for money tasty plates. Each with a different flavour. Very polite service by staff. Good value. Simple deco. Shop targeting taste and value. One of the best Korean restaurants in London. Offers barbecue on tables. Definitely worth a visit.

A great local restaurant with a huge variety of options from mains / sides / starters & BBQ. We opted to go for one of the BBQ set menus & a side of veg noodle soup. Portions are very generous and the beef was marinated very well & tasted exceptionally nice!! Service is very efficient & fast. It does get slightly busy especially during usual dinner times. Definitely recommending this place!!!!

I can’t express enough how good this place is! My friend took us here once and we’ve been hooked since. The food is so delicious and flavourful that even when you’re full, you can’t resist finishing it (portions are generous). Whole heartedly recommend, especially the grilled meat 👌🏻

All of the dishes in this table cost less than £60 - Yes, it is a value for money! But the definition of the value for money has re-defined from here as it’s not just about the economy of dining but what’s in the menus! One crystal example: It’s worth exploring the Noodle set - an economic but contains bunch of joyful moments for your mouth and your mind full of Korean cuisine and CULTURE!!! Definitely recommend!

Been meaning to try this place for a while. Decided to go for one of the set menus which was BBQ 2, seafood pancake and the Korean fried chicken. Prices are reasonable. Service was great, Avi was amazing, really friendly and attentive. Rupasa was also great and kept our glasses of water filled which we appreciated. Would come back and try more of the menu:)

I recently dined at Spicy Grill London, a Korean restaurant conveniently located near Golders Green station in Zone 3 of North London. The restaurant's proximity to the station makes it easily accessible by public transport. However, if you're driving, parking can be a bit of a challenge. Street parking is available but quite expensive at £6.30 for two hours. We visited on a weekday during lunch, so there were plenty of empty tables. Our group ordered the Sundubu Jjigae, Jjambban Chajang (for 2-3 people), LA Galbi, and Galbijjim. Overall, the food was quite sweet. The Jjambban Chajang had a generous amount of seafood and a large portion size, but the sweetness was overwhelming. The LA Galbi also suffered from being overly sweet and the meat was quite tough. To our surprise, the Galbijjim was more like a Galbitang (short rib soup), but upon confirming, we were told it was indeed the Galbijjim. Unfortunately, it was also very sweet. While the dishes that used soy sauce-based marinades were excessively sweet, the dining experience was somewhat salvaged by the friendly staff. However, the restaurant appeared understaffed, with one employee handling both table service and food deliveries. This resulted in a slow pace of service, with a notable gap of about 15 minutes between the first and last dishes arriving at our table. Despite these issues, the friendliness of the staff and the convenient location made for a pleasant dining experience. If you enjoy sweeter Korean dishes, you might find Spicy Grill London to your liking. However, be prepared for slower service during busy times.

Yelp
Coming from the next best place to get KBBQ except Korea (ehem California), i have a solid addiction for kbbq. I've been here for about 5 times, and would always come back here. This is the cheapest kbbq in london! For three sets of meat that can feed ~5 people priced at 26-30? Where else can you find it except for spicy grill! You can mix-match the meat offered in the sets too! I definitely recommend getting their chicken and japchae with it too! BBQ + chicken + japchae = good korean bbq meal that'll keep you coming back!

Yelp
Welp, after this fiasco I give up on Korean food in Golder's Green. By the way, the first review of this place is obviously fake. I was enticed by the lunch specials, which are all about 7 or less and come with kimchi, miso, main, etc... but really..even with all that it wasn't worth it. Miso was way too salty and obviously not diluted enough. Kimchi was completely bland. Seafood bibimbap had nothing about it that was memorable. I lose.

Yelp
Wonderful place with very friendly, accommodating staff. The food is delicious - you'll struggle to find food of the same quality at restaurants that charge far more. Definitely recommend the kimchi pancake and bibimbap. Place starts filling up around 7pm, so best to go earlier - in the space of an hour the place can go from completely empty to full. Even when busy, the staff do their best not to neglect any of the customers, which a lot of other restaurants could learn from. Really nice place - great food, good atmosphere and affordable. Cozy. Easily my favourite restaurant.

Yelp
I went here on an early Sunday evening with my boyfriend. This place is da bomb!! I will say it beats any of those Korean bbq joints down in soho. Golders Green might be out of the way for some people, but I'd say it's a must for affordable, authentic, and delicious Korean BBQ. We had a shared meat platter which fed us full. The side dishes were great, especially the bean curd, spring onion & chilli, lettuce wraps, and sauces. I'm going back for sure. I will mention, the place filled up around 18:30. We beat the evening rush by half an hour thankfully. Go hungry and leave happy!

Yelp
Great food & great service. We went on a Saturday evening and boy was it busy & noisy, but in a nice way. Last time we went was mid week & it was very quiet. This time full of mainly young people chatting away over their food, just like it should be. Fried chicken was pure heroin, we could've eaten a bucket. Bimbimbap was huge and tasty, as was chicken Katsu and my dish ( can't recall the name) was a very spicy soup with noodles, tofu & beef. With jasmine tea and hot salted edamame beans it was more than plenty. Big shout out the lovely Iranian waitress who was sweet and attentive in a thoroughly genuine way. Also the young Lithuanian waiter who was happy to answer our questions. In short young vibrant crowd with great food and also fair prices. Highly recommended

Yelp
Great Korean food in Golders Green. Must certainly have been updated since the previous review in 2012. We had the grill on table - Bulgogi, Marinated Chicken, and Pork Belly along with Kimchi and a few other sides. All of the food was amazing, and the staff was incredibly friendly, will return soon!

Yelp
Best Korean we have had in London. The service was fantastic and the food was fresh and generous. For starters we had tteokbokki which is served exactly like it was in Korea and for the main we had bibimbap.

Yelp
We were so fortunate to find this place on our last night in London in June of 2013. It was by far the best meal we had during our 2 week stay in Europe! We wandered in travel weary, close to closing time, and we were patiently and graciously served an amazing Korean meal. Thank you so very much!

Yelp
My wife and I have been coming here for lunch on weekends once every 6-8 weeks for about two years and we have always enjoyed it. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and you get something nice for what you pay. I will admit that the quality can vary a small amount with the bibimbap which was addressed by the owner here in another review but this is one of the best price-to-quality ratio for bibimbap that I have found in London. Many places will happily charge you £7 and another £1 to crack an egg on top where here for the same price here you'll get the bowl, some salads, tea and soup. We have come on a few evenings for barbecue at the tables and have always enjoyed a comfortable atmosphere with nice tasting meat, good service and at a very reasonable cost.

Yelp
Really solid Korean food. The spicy tofu and seafood soup was perfectly spiced and the seafood was not overcooked. The bi bim bop came in a very hot stone bowl that made the rice extra crispy. The pork bento was also generous though they seemed to have substituted out some of the side dishes that were listed on the menu. My one gripe about Spicy Grill is that they were very skimpy on the selection of small starter dishes that come at the beginning of the meal. Every other Korean place I've been brings several dishes to the table -- at Spicy Grill, we only got two and the portions were measly. It was just a disappointing way to start an otherwise delicious meal.

Yelp
Food is okay, but service is shockingly poor. There were only 4 tables that were occupied in the restaurant so the staff were not busy, but seemed to have confused our order with the next table so they overcharged us (was supposed to pay £35, but ended up paying £50!!!!!!! - didn't realize till i got home and my wife checked the receipt). The staff were meant to cook the meat on the grill for you, but they just left the raw food on our table, told me to cook it myself and walked off and totally ignored us until it came to paying the bill - although they very quick to get the little card payment reader out! Even had the cheek to complain that the other table (who were frequent customers) may not come back after they had botched our orders! Will not be going back - Its cheaper to buy all the ingredients from the Korean supermarket 4 doors down - Seoul Plaza for about £25 and cook it at home or at a friends house. AVOID
