I ordered Dan Dan noodles and cold spicy chicken for take out. The noodles were ok but the chicken was very delicious. It’s my first time inside. It was traditional Chinese decoration. I’m impressed with the entrance. I’ll have to dine in soon and try other dishes.

First I just want to say that it is not necessarily expected for Chinese service staff to be really friendly or accommodating, especially to white English speaking people...not because there is any intended rudeness, but because of language or cultural differences when it comes to restaurant etiquette, etc. Having said that, the two waitresses that were on staff today were so nice and attentive and thoughtful. We loved their vibe. This was my first time trying proper authentic Sichuan food after doing a ton of research on what to order (years of research technically, watching tons of channels on YouTube that cover this style of food), and although not every single item was made exactly as it might be traditionally made (the Fu Qi Fei Pian didn't have tongue, heart or tripe for example...it only had the thin slices of beef flank), I found that everything was very close to how it is made in China, or exactly as it should be. We had the following (See pics with captions), and I recommend everything besides the stir fried potatoes (maybe there is a better way to get them than we did): 1. Mao Xue Wang 2. Shao Bai 3. Stir Fried Potatoes with vinegar 4. Fish & Tofu Mala (not sure of menu name) 5. Fu Qi Fei Pian 5. Special Sweet Rice Ball Soup (Dessert) Everything tasted high quality and truly awesome. The portions were gigantic and definitely intended to be family style. We went crazy and spent $100 for the two of us, with drinks, and still had so much food left over that they had to put everything in a big cardboard box lol. Oh and the weird looking fish eyeballs/egg soup looking thing is so strange but so lovely. We asked for a dessert and we were thinking we would get some kind of small piece of Chinese dessert like they do in America and other countries, but instead they brought out a steaming hot bowl of something I can barely describe (see pictures), but it was genuinely awesome and such a new experience for sure. Highly recommend trying it. You'll just have to see for yourself. Can't wait to go back and try more. They have a gigantic and intriguing menu.

This was our first time here. We had spicy fish, salt and pepper calamari, egg rolls and dumplings. The food was great, large portions. We will definitely be back

Google
One of the best authentic Chinese foods in town. True high quality and great friendly service all the time

Google
Very delicious Chinese food, it is also worth a go. Their dishes are excellent, exquisitely decorated, and there are also TVs and fish tanks. You can have a look when you are bored. What’s better is that they usually provide a bowl of candy before and after meals. For those who love Chinese food, this is definitely a must-visit place.

Google
We went here for CNY and the food was excellent! The fish was phenomenal and we especially loved the dumplings. The service was interesting - we were waiting to be seated a long time and the hostess tried to seat the people who came in after us first even though we'd already spoken to her. They nicely pointed out that we'd been waiting. The food was worth the wait however.

Google
Everything was great about this place! My wife and I went for dinner one random day and kind of just picked a few things... HEADS UP!... It is served family style...we had leftovers for a couple of days! Definitely a plus for me! The food was delicious! Staff was so nice and so quick! Definitely goin back!

Google
If you want good Chinese shi cuan food at reasonable price with large portions, this is the place to be. Everything we ordered came out quickly, piping hot and delicious. The cold plate portion was generous and delicious. Had the smoked chicken, pork stomach and spicy beef as the cold plate. Ordered fish with preserved veg and stir fry beef. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked, slightly spicy and went well with rice. Service is brisk. Very large menu. Located in mall with free parking but parking was a bit tough during peak lunch time. It's definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. Their Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Onion Pancakes - all classics, and they have (you guessed it) spicier dishes that serve. I have found that sometimes the food is amazing and other times it's on the greasy side. It all depends on when I order? Their eggplant is absolutely fantastic, and I'll order it just about every time. You can ask for dishes to be served on the spicier side, and they will gladly oblige, which makes me very happy, as I adore anything with chili peppers and flavor balance. Again, I have had issues with too greasy here - but I keep going back for the spice. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment?

Yelp
Came here on a weekday night looking for some Chinese food. When you enter, you won't have any trouble finding a seat as the inside has plenty of tables. Service was good. Be prepared for the spice. We ordered the big plate chicken and the spicy intestines. Would come back again!
google avatar

Hanafi M.

Yelp
They really know how to play with the spices. Delicious in every way. Nice folks. No English, so you need to know what you want. After they bring you the food to the table, you never see them again. LOL....But the tea is free. Kick azz fried rice 4 sure! All in all, exquisite preparation.

Yelp
My friend suggested I try Spicy House when I told him how much I love going to Spicy City for their spicy Szechuan food--such a great recommendation. Spicy House not only serves similar dishes but also has over 200 items to choose from. They made my favorite Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken just as good or slightly better. My other favorite is the fresh Pea Leaves stir-fry with garlic. The service was a little slow but every item ordered came out kitchen hot, tasty, and with a generous portion. Most of the servers didn't speak English as well but they were very polite and helpful. Spacious with nice big round tables for big parties. However, the parking is tight and will be a problem in busy times.

Yelp
This was probably the grossest duck I e ever been served in my life. Would not even greed to my dog. Completely inedible.

Yelp
A classic Chinese restaurant where the food is good and cheap but the service is questionable hahaha. The menu is packed with so many options it did take us a minute to even decide what to get. They do have some good vegetarian options. My favorite was the mixed mushrooms in a dry pot. It was a classic Mala flavor with extra chilis. It wasn't too spicy! We ordered so much food (not pictured) and the total for 5 people came to $80! Can't beat those prices.
google avatar

Racheal J.

Yelp
Hands down THE BEST Chinese food you will ever put in your mouth. I have dreams about the food here. Family owned, great atmosphere. I love the giant round tables that can accommodate everybody comfortably so much food. I wish I would've taken pictures. Every single thing that came out was absolutely unbelievable. We took so much food home for the next two days lol
google avatar

Yelp
Their Fried Chicken Cube with Hot Pepper is one of my favorites in town. The dish is delicious--the fried chicken cubes are generous in portion compared to Spicy City down the street and every bite has a nice balance between spicy chilies and flavorful, tender chicken. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly as well. If you love spicy and want to actually enjoy plenty of chicken with every bite, Spicy House really delivers on both flavor and portion. Highly recommended for anyone into Szechuan-style fried chicken!
google avatar

Yelp
I noticed Spicy House serves Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) for just over $20, so I decided to try it along with Dongpo Pork, salted egg yolk tofu, and scallion pancakes--dishes my dad loves. Everything was delicious and great value! The tofu was super flavorful and perfect with rice, the pork was tender and not greasy, and the Da Pan Ji was a huge portion with wide noodles, making it an incredible deal. Only the scallion pancake was average. My dad loved the meal, and with four of us eating, we still had leftovers!

Yelp
The food used to be good but at some point this year the food became inconsistent. We have had hot and sour soup that was extremely sour as if the chef pour a bottle of the vinegar in the soup, and sometimes it was on the sweet side. The salad could use more salt because they tasted pretty bland. Come here when you feel extremely lucky otherwise don't bother to come here.
google avatar

Yelp
Good price for delicious food. Me and my family are their customers for many years. They offers good service to us all the time . They have a big menu for you to choose from, the price in general is cheaper than other restaurants. The parking lot is busy but you still able to find a spot in most cases.

Yelp
Came here to try their mapo tofu after having an extraordinary version of the dish at Taste of Chengdu in Orlando. Although it didn't reach the excellence of TOC's version, this was nevertheless very good. There's a bit of a language barrier here, but communication was adequately achieved with pointing and gesturing of various sorts. Ambiance was about as expected for a smallish strip-mall restaurant of this type.

Yelp
Beware, this place is not for the faint of the heart if you can't take spicy food! They specialize in family style Sichuan cuisine where Chinese peppercorn and various chilis/spices are used. My table ordered a total of 7 dishes, and all of them were so aromatic and full of flavors with various Chinese spices. You know it came straight from the wok as they were popping hot. The lazy Susan allowed our big group to try and share every dish, which I must say is the essence of a proper Chinese cuisine experience. I highly recommend their Mapo Tofu, Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper and Szechuan Style Spicy Fish. These dishes were so well seasoned that they will make you eat at least two bowls of rice. Just make sure to have mercy on yourself and get a few non-spicy dishes to balance out the heat - I really enjoyed their eggplants and stir fried string beans, though they are both on the greasier side. The total price per person came up very reasonable with all the dishes we got to try. There were also plenty of leftovers! *Side note, they allow for Yelp reservations, which I have learned is not always an option among the other Chinese restaurants in the area, so extra brownie points.

Yelp
Delicious food and yummy choices. I went here for lunch and tried the Beef in Dried Pot. It had a slightly spicy flavor and was really enjoyable. Then I ordered the Clean Broth Wonton Soup. It was well-seasoned, full of flavor, and had a delicious soup base. I will definitely visit again. Keep up the good service.

Cat C.

Yelp
For that price range, SH is the best Szechuan restaurant in Convoy! Their dishes tend to be oily and salty. The meat quality is average, that's why I cut one star out of the five.

Yelp
I hesitated for almost two weeks, debating if I should write this review. Spicy house was highly recommended by friends plus good reviews in yelp. On 10/05, Sunday family of 4 came to this place. We ordered snow pea leaves, mapo tofu, crispy spicy chicken, twice cooked pork, and beef noodle soup. The noodle and vegetable dish were good. However the other three dishes were so salty that we hardly touched it. The mapo tofu was salty and also very ma (numbing ones taste buds).one family member even had stomach issues the next day after trying the tofu. I'm used to these dishes and like their special taste of being spicy and numbing sensation. But that night, it was unbearable. I took home and thought of diluting it , but to no avail. As if the chef just put way too much of the salt and spice. If he would have tasted it, I wonder if he would agree with my evaluation.

Yelp
I love the good here it is just delighted like it was so good while i was waiting for the other soup well done to yhe cheifs of this restaurant who made this

Yelp
Updated review for two items in particular that I tried for the first time: spicy wontons and Dan Dan noodles. I had really high hopes for both dishes since so many things at Spicy House are delicious ( the hot and sour soup, kung pao chicken, steamed dumplings and chow mein are my faves) but these were busts. Despite the spicy wantons being in a spicy sauce, the sauce lacked flavor. The inside of the wontons also didn't taste fully cooked. Something was just off. Same with the dan dan noodles. The noodles themselves were incredibly mushy and over cooked and the sauce itself was not spicy, overly thick and peanuty and just not good! Definitely wouldn't order these again.

Yelp
Good authentic Sichuan food, good taste nice environment and reasonably priced. I would recommend it highly for spicy food lover

Yelp
Spicy House offers a wide variety of dishes. There are not only foods that can satisfy more Western palates, but also delicious traditional Chinese dishes full of rich Sichuan flavors and characteristics. Every dining experience there is truly a delicious one.

Yelp
The Spice House is our favorite place to go in the Clairemont area of San Diego. The service here has always been excellent, and the staff are friendly. There are delicious and fresh dumplings here. The prices are the most affordable in this area! The portions are really generous! Not only is there a large quantity of food, but also a large serving of drinks.

Yelp
While on the hunt for dumplings we found Spicy House. Im sure glad we did because it was incredible. Inside the place exudes classic chinese restaurant charm. The ladies who run the place were all smiles, efficient and friendly-ish which only added to the old school vibe. We started out with several cold dishes from the bar. Smashed cucumber, spicy beef and pig ears were all expertly crafted and enjoyed. Food wise well, their menu is massive and while we were there for dumplings we ordered so much more. The menu is broken down into proteins, ingredients and preparation. Honestly there seems to be some of the same dishes listed under each, though this might be a lost in translation situation. In any case every dish we had was great. My favorites were the "Boiled" #124, Boiled 2 Kinds w/Hot Sauce. I chose beef and fish. They call this place Spicy House for a reason. My mouth tingled for an hour after eating this dish. So much Sichuan pepper, perfect boiled dish! Another dish, "Featured Specials" #16, Stir Fried Chicken Cubes w/Hot Pepper was a hit. Though be warned, a cube of chicken is really just the skin with very little meat. Surprisingly dumplings are actually located under "Noodles" where we ordered #201, Chunking Style Wonton and #193, Steamed Bun (Xiao Long Bao). Both were well prepared and I love that their wrappers were on the thicker side which made them feel sturdy with a satisfying chew. Spicy House has over 200 menu items and in all honesty, I cannot wait to try some different dishes next time. What a treat! "Soup dumplings, sitcoms, one-night stands--good ones leave you wanting more." -Eddie Huang

Yelp
We decided on Sichuan for late lunch/ early dinner m, we were the only party and felt like they definitely deserve more patrons. We were glad to see diners come for the dinner rush. Spicy house is always consistent, after all these years!

Yelp
This is my first time here, and I'm definitely coming back. A friend recommended this place. When I saw the line outside the door... I thought about giving up right then, or persevering. And it turned out to be really worth it! The staff here are extremely helpful and friendly. The food is hot, fresh, and served in generous portions. I'll return to try other dishes. It's such a great place that I can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
Was craving some Chinese food and found this place near our favorite Pho spot that my wife wanted. I got the General Tso's Chicken and white rice. First they provide a substantial serving size as you can see in the picture! The food was delicious! Rice was fluffy, the flavor of the chicken was good. I wish maybe there was more spice and the chicken was in smaller chunks, but I still REALLY enjoyed this. I got this delivered, but I may stop in some time as well!

Yelp
Delicious food at affordable prices. Both the food and the atmosphere are great. The waiters are quick and friendly.

Yelp
I got the Dan Dan noodles. The sauce was too salty. I could not eat more than a few bites. Not tasty. My boyfriend decided to be adventurous and ordered the pig brain dish. I won't yuck someone else's yum but brains are not for me. The sauce it was served with was ok. I didn't eat more than half a bite. My boyfriend ate most of the two dishes we ordered. Later that night, he experienced a very bad stomachache and many trips to the toilet. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes. But I would not want to come back. It was kind of deserted as expected for a Monday at noon. Service was ok and the restaurant looked clean. The waitress does not speak English and we didn't speak her language.
google avatar

Seng M.

Yelp
Very large menu. Items were not the typical Americanized dishes I'm accustomed to. The food was ok. A server came by to take our order, but we weren't ready yet so another 25 minutes went by we had to call someone over. Never got our water we asked for. After they dropped off the food, they never checked on us. We waited and waited and probably another 20 minutes go by after we're done eating, we flagged someone for our bill and boxes. They bring the bill first and take it before I'm even done boxing requesting a larger tip...
google avatar

Nickole B.

Yelp
It's great! The service is excellent and the food is incredibly delicious! We ordered eggplant, spicy combination pot, twice-cooked pork, string beans and a large plate of duck meat. All the dishes are delicious, but the eggplant and twice-cooked pork are our favorites. We'll come again next time!
google avatar

Yelp
The hygiene is well done. The food is fresh. It's convenient to park and the environment is magnificent. This place is acceptable.

Yelp
Can't stop raving about it! A menu as diverse as an encyclopedia, stunning taste, and maxed-out delivery speed.

Yelp
This is the most authentic Sichuan cuisine I've ever had in the United States. I ordered the spicy and numbing pig intestines hot pot, spicy diced chicken, and a cold dishes platter. Every single dish was delicious! The landlady also provided excellent service, and I've rarely been disappointed here. I highly recommend it!
google avatar

Jiselle T.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and got seated immediately. They serve pretty big portions, so we definitely ordered too much for 2 people. We had plenty of leftovers. They have a lot of food that you wouldn't find at a basic Chinese food restaurant like frog legs, chicken feet, liver, duck, etc. We decided to go the basic route though and ordered the following... Kung pao chicken, this was a good amount of spice, but not too spicy and you can taste the fresh Ginger. This was definitely my favorite. Walnut shrimp, they smothered the shrimp in Mayo, I was not ready for that, so it wasn't my favorite and probably wouldn't order it again. Chow mein, this was good the noodles were thick, they added plenty of shrimp and it was not extra to add shrimp.
google avatar

Yelp
This is an old-fashioned and simple restaurant that serves delicious food. I have been coming here for many years and have never had a bad experience.

Yelp
great Chinese restaurant with all kinds of spice levels and dishes for everyone to try! even if you're not a fan of spice, there's lots of great nonspicy foods too. and the spicy ones can get REALLY spicy. they have the ma la spice, that numbs your mouth and tongue. shared a lot of dishes with a party of 9 and we were stuffed! my personal favorites were the green beans and honey walnut shrimp lol. great flavor on the beans and giant shrimp size with the right amount of batter and sauce. the cumin lamb was also great, but the spare ribs were wayyyyy too spicy for me. they're quick to bring out water and tea, and food was arriving at a great pace. overall a very good deal for family style and you'll definitely be satisfied!

Yelp
I have been going to spicy house since 2015 and sometimes I'd go there once a week. Through the years, I've ventured to try other dishes but came to conclude these two dishes are my favorite & the best. You can't go wrong with their dry pot chicken, perfectly seasoned chicken cubes on top of a bed of bean sprouts and veggie. It makes my mouth water and goes so well with some cold beer. This dish should be served at a bar as appetizer because it pairs so well with drinks. I also love their boiled fish & beef. The English translation can't convey what truly is for the dish. Its your choice of protein in a spicy broth. Beef is super tender and fish soaks up all the flavors. I don't like the lamb as it is a tad too fatty for me. You gotta order a side of rice with this dish. If you are adventurous eaters, try their cold app combo. I usually go for their picked wood mushroom, garlic cucumber and spicy beef. Their pan seared dumplings are homemade & taste great too. 超級好吃的水煮魚和乾鍋雞丁,每次去都會點的。 涼拌也是,有時候會打包回家就可以吃兩餐。

Samantha O.

Yelp
Service sucks, never asked if we wanted water, or anything else and took about 30 mins for the bill and a Togo box, there is a language barrier with the waitress, they take forever. I would not recommend this dish it's way too spicy with no flavor,it's called chicken in dried pot, way too many jalapeños with no flavor.

Yelp
My go to Szechuan restaurant had closed down probably like 5 years ago. So I've been on the search for my go to Szechuan spa in San diego. Spicy house comes very close because they're twice cooked pork is pretty damn good. I've been here twice so far and the food I've ordered have always been pretty good. This is a legit Chinese Szechuan restaurant because majority of the patron's here are legitimately old school chinese. Which is honestly and nice to see, because then I know I'm in good hands. The service here I've received here is really good, they're really nice and the food is good as well. I definitely see myself coming here for my Szechuan needs.

Lauriana R.

Yelp
Chill place. Large portion sizes and especially great prices 3 dishes is more than enough for 3 people. Enjoy bringing friends and family together.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Hm. The food here was pretty good. The green beans were yummy. The chow mein was also good. The chopped pork was good too, but not as good as the other dishes. This review sucks HAHAH

Raffie S.

Yelp
We ordered to go of the fish with hot pepper and the tofu with brown sauce and they were amazing. This is an OG in the neighborhood. Last time we had the dine in the dry hot pot is also a winner. They have plenty of menu items to choose from and if one is of the spicy food persuasion, this is the place to go for a Sichuan /Chungqing experience. Service is prompt, but be ready to do the point if there will be some communication lbarrier.. Atmosphere is relaxing
google avatar

Cherie Z.

Yelp
All of the food tasted amazing! They were perfectly seasoned, hot, and very generous serving sizes. The service was also great and the restaurant was decorated very nicely. Definitely will be coming back for more!!

Yelp
How have I not written a review yet?! This has been my go to Sichuan food place for years! It is inside the same plaza as Nijiya Market. Parking is usually available in the lot but the spaces are a bit tight. We have never made reservations, and only rarely had to wait when coming in Fri or Sat night, but usually no more than 15-20min. Service is generally very quick, in and out within an hour for a quick delicious meal. The menu is extensive, but we usually order the same few classics. We start off with the cold bar. You can choose from veggies (seaweed/kelp, cucumber, potato slices, mustard greens, wood ears) or meats (brisket, pig ears, beef organ slices). They can range from sour to very spicy. We usually get the 3 veggie combo, which is a great appetizer and also something to cool the mouth from the fiery spices from the entrees! Our usual orders for 2 people: 196 Hot sour sweet potato noodles - so spicy, so tangy, so chewy. Topped with some minced meat and peanuts. Very large bowl, definitely good entree for one, or shared for even up to four people. 16 Fried chicken cubes with chilis - very spicy, with the mala (numbing) peppercorn, fried to crispy, bite-sized perfection. I love munching on the crispy slices of garlic and ginger too. Way more than 2 people can eat, but the leftovers are absolutely delish when reheated in the toaster. Or you can toss in sliced celery and broccoli and stir fry the leftovers up for a second meal ;) 170 Chef's special green beans - dry fried, with this savory sauce reduced to perfectly coat every crevice. Not spicy. Additional dishes when we have more people to share with: 121 boiled fish - red hot spicy, and gets spicier as reheated leftovers. Super tender pieces of fish, with no fishy taste or odor. 11 Pork belly steamed over preserved vegetables - The thinly sliced pork belly is so decadent, so tender and just melts in the mouth. This is one of my favorite dishes growing up, but definitely not for those with high cholesterol. 194 Dan dan noodles - definitely the best dan dan noodles I've ever had. Way more complex than anywhere else. You have to try it to believe it. Only reason we don't order this every time is because I prefer the hot and sour vermicelli more.

Yelp
Very authentic Sichuan/Chongqing spicy food, 粉蒸肉,蒜苗腊肉,点豆花,凉粉,烧白,猪蹄白果汤非常地道。绝对适合正宗的四川人的胃,重庆人的舌尖。 - 四川人推荐

Yelp
Love the orange chicken and walnut shrimp. Service is quick and they helped us with what to order. The inside is clean and nice.
