Spicy Mango has so much potential, but has so many little kinks to work out!
We visited the restaurant at around 9:30 pm on a whim, with no reservation. We were told a 45-minute wait, and in 45 minutes, we were told our table was ready.
The hostess led us outside to a table, just to come back inside, just to come back outside, before telling us to wait a little longer before our table was clean. She seemed confused. By then, it was well after 10:15 p.m. on a Saturday night.
The restaurant is gorgeous, by the way, and really gives a tropical, nightlife vibe.
After 15 minutes? We were finally seated outside and our waitress took our drink and food orders. The menu was slightly expensive but we were not phased as we had visited another one of Larry Morrow's (Sun Chong) restaurants during our trip.
I ordered the half jerk chicken, but ended up receiving the whole jerk chicken but was not charged, obviously. The chicken was flavorful and was spicy, as jerk should be. However, the rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage we ordered were also very spicy, so I ended up with some bad stomach pains the next morning from the spice overload.
I actually never ordered the side of cabbage, but they brought it out to me for some reason, but again, I was never charged for it, so what the hell.
My cousin ordered the jerk burger, also spicy, and the jerk macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was made with ZITI NOODLES???? Which was odd, but the flavor was there. The fries that came with the burger looked 3D-printed.
All of the food was delicious, but the restaurant is extremely unorganized, and this was obvious during our time there.
I won't speak too much on this, but our waitress sat down to vent with us and divulged some of her own issues with the restaurant, so it seemed like customers and staff alike realized that some things needed work.
The restaurant also obviously caters to certain celebrity guests, which makes wait times longer for us regular folk.
It is a new spot, so I'm pretty sure everything will eventually work out in the long run.
