Sugar Spice Thai Mid City Review - Mid-City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Located in the old Belizean Paradise space, Spicy Sugar Thai is a charming Thai diner in Mid-City (with a second location in Long Beach) that’s a solid choice for a casual weeknight meal. The menu is long and mixes standard options like pad krapow and tom kha with some eyebrow-raising dishes. Or at least our eyebrows shot up when our server whipped out a blowtorch to melt cheese over their “pad thai meltdown.” Spicy Sugar Thai likes to have fun like that, as seen in its curry-fied chili dogs, blue mango sticky rice, and chicken katsu smothered in panang curry. We appreciate the creativity, but the more traditional dishes like chicken larb with tons of lime, chiles, and rice powder, and the papaya salad with salted crab are what we'd come back for." - Sylvio Martins

Came here on a Saturday at 5PM and we were promptly greeted and seated. Water, a wonton appetizer, and menus were brought immediately for us to snack on while perusing the menu. We ordered several items and they were brought quickly, all at once. 5/5 Naked wing crispy garlic: deliciously juicy and well fried. 3.5/5 Crisp chicken with panang curry (mild): the curry was amazingly sweet and aromatic. So full of flavor and subtle spices. The chicken was thinly battered and crispy but a little on the dry side. 4/5 Chicken satay (4 skewers): flavorful and well grilled. 5/5 Thai bbq skewers (3 skewers): ordered the pork and it was moist and well seasoned. 5/5 Sweet sugar roll: they were like sweet thin pancakes and such a delight. Highly recommend! 5/5 Thai tea: sweet, creamy, and a perfect complement to the spices. Excellent service! Our server was attentive, courteous, and overall very pleasant. Looking forward to coming back to try some of the other dishes.

Great friendly service. The wait staff is very attentive and always ready to enhance your dining experience. However, the star of the show is the food. You can taste the love in every dish that they serve. The BBQ Pork Skewers appetizer is sooo good. The Seafood Soup is perfectly balanced and delicious with plenty of seafood. The Mango Sticky Rice is not only a feast for the eyes but a symphony in your mouth. The foam gives it that extra punch of flavor. Spicy Sugar Thai Long Beach is a MUST stop by when you're in the neighborhood.

Google
Some of the best Thai food I’ve had! Super fresh pad thai and the chicken satay was wonderful! Would come again, service was great the owners were super nice as-well and checked on us couple times during our visit.

Google
Driven by it a million times and decided to give it a go after seeing a post on IG. Sadly like most IG posts the place failed to impress. The pork nam tok was bitter and the pork almost dry, there was no fat on it so IMO it missed the mark. The pad see ew was good but lacking wok hei. Missed our duck rolls, they were delivered to the table behind us yet we were still charged for them. Prices are on the higher side for this experience and environment. There is a secrete menu with some items that did not have pricing in them.

My favorite food is definitely Thai, and every time I check out a new Thai spot I HAVE to get the Pad See Ew… Top tier Pad See Ew at spicy sugar..! Has that roasted taste and the sweetness wasn’t too much, loved it. I also got the sweet sticky rice, vegetable egg rolls, and Lao papaya salad. The vegetable egg rolls were delicious and came out hot and fresh, sweet sticky rice was also tasty, although they don’t put the coconut milk sauce as most places do, I still appreciated the rice itself and wasn’t too sweet (as I prefer). Wasn’t a fan of the Lao papaya salad as it had a distinct taste, but I can see why people love it. 4 stars for service ONLY because it may take longer than usual to get your order out, for both dine in and takeout. Keep in mind this is a small restaurant and family owned, so I wasn’t expecting super fast service. Honestly didn’t mind it at all because of how beautiful and aesthetically pleasing the inside is! Will be coming here again if I’m ever in this part of LA🤞🏽

Google
The food is delicious, seasoned appropriately, favorable, and the portions are adequate. They add spicy heat at your request from no heat to hot heat at five levels. Staffing was impacted by the ICE raids, and the chef came out to explain and apologize. The curry was spot on, as was the sweet mango sticky rice. Five stars.

Google
My friend saw this place on Instagram and so we decided to give it a try. The food was so delicious! Service was a bit slow as there were only 2 waiters for the restaurant and looked like 3 in the back kitchen. Food came out slow too. We were given complimentary crispy fried wonton and three sauces after we sat down. We ordered Thai iced tea, garlic chicken wings, and duck spring rolls to start. Love the duck spring rolls. The herbs were very fresh and the duck wasn't too oily. The chicken wings were good too. For the main course, we ordered the whole fried fish platter and the pork belly tom yum ramen. My friend who had the ramen loved it. The fried fish was crispy and light. Lots of meat. It's a big portion and it was enough for two of us to share. I definitely want to return to try other dishes!

Yelp
I'm always up for some good Thai food. Found this place on Yelp as well as a referral from someone's who's been. It's not a big place and there's street parking. The ladies working were all very sweet and friendly. The menu does have a good amount of Thai dishes as well as a few others dishes. Dipping sauce and the wonton chips were brought out while we were looking through the menu. Started off with the pork skewers which were quite good. Three sticks with dipping sauce. The meat was tender and cooked well. Also had the papaya salad Laos style. That ended up coming after the other dishes which usually it's served before. Also had the panang curry which they already added the side of rice too. And the ramen in a tom yum soup, which I've never had that version. Had it with pho rice noodles before but never ramen. It was quite tasty and the seafood portion was quite nice. Overall, staff were very friendly and sweet. Food was good but heads up with the spice level. We ordered medium for the papaya salad but it was way hotter than that. Still good but when your mouth is burning it's a different taste. I love spicy, but it was spicy. Only downside, there was no restroom available. A few people had asked about it, which they declined on. They should at least have another options for the customer. Offer them the restroom at the bars 2 foods down if needed.

Yelp
I came to Spicy Sugar last night with my partner when we were in the Long Beach area. I'm so glad we decided to stop here! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and told to pick whichever seat we want. The server very promptly brought out water and these amazing, little wonton crisps with three choices of sauces. The green spicy sauce was my favorite to dip the crisps in. For starters, we ordered the green curry dumplings and the duck spring rolls. The dumplings came with veggies on top and a green curry sauce. The sauce on the dumplings was to die for. The duck spring rolls were light and tasty; and the sauce to dip the rolls in was delicious as well. For our main, we ordered the panang curry with chicken. I really enjoyed the flavor of this dish and how it had pumpkin in it. Their portions are generous for a dish, so I was both full and satisfied by the end of the meal. The service here was wonderful. Every server was so friendly and hospitable. The servers stayed on top of their game, throughout the entirety of our meal, from refilling our water to making sure we had to-go boxes, I loved everything about the interior design of spicy sugar. The picture of the girl on the wall was pretty, as well as the plants, the elephant decorations and the artsy display of garlic on the wall. I'm excited to come back and try their pad kee mao, duck larb, the Thai curry dog and their mango and sticky rice. All their dishes looked so yummy. You should definitely check out Spicy Sugar for some excellent Thai food!

Yelp
We stumbled into this gem. My man and I decided we wanted Thai food and had another restaurant in mind so we yelped and took a win. This was defiently a recommended spot. The food was amazing From the cream cheese ragoons to the crispy duck rolls and the crispy wings. I ordered the stir fry with shrimp. The service was great and inviting. We will defiently be back

Yelp
Spicy Sugar Thai in Long Beach is a unique take on Thai cuisine, blending traditional flavors with a dash of Western flair. It's not your typical Thai spot, and that's what makes it fun. Their Pad Thai with cheese is an unexpected twist--traditional, yet indulgent, with that added pizzazz. The Tom Yum Ramen? A great fusion dish that delivers comforting spice and tanginess. The pork satay was tender and packed with flavor, and the som tum (papaya salad) hit the perfect spice level without being overly fishy, which was a nice touch for my palate. If you're looking for Thai food with a creative spin, Spicy Sugar is worth a visit. It's a cool spot to mix up your usual routine while still enjoying those familiar, delicious flavors.

Yelp
I was getting off a flight at LGB super late and needed some Asian food after spending a week on a cruise. This place was one of the only Thai places we saw open. PARKING: Decent sized lot WHAT I ORDERED: * Dry tom yum noodles with beef, medium spciy * Crispy duck rolls * Namtok pork, medium spicy * Thai iced tea FOOD + DRINKS: Dry tom yum noodles were so unique, super flavorful though a tad bit salty. The crispy duck rolls were AMAZING, like a typical fresh spring roll, but the crispy duck really made it special. The namtok pork was good, but a little bit tough. The Thai iced tea was pretty standard, though a bit sweet and could be a bit more flavorful. SERVICE: We came about an hour before closing, and they said it was takeout only, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, they were super kind and were happy to help us VIBES: Pretty small place and pretty casual. We weren't able to dine in but I could see this being a nice place to catch up with some friends or for a date night. BOTTOM LINE: Pretty solid. I was pretty blown away by how unique the menu items looked, so I definitely want to come back to try some more things, like the Pad Thai Meltdown. Don't forget to check in to take advantage of the Yelp Check-in Offer if they're still doing it.

Yelp
It's pretty hard finding some asian food open past 9pm in Long Beach but Spicy Sugar Thai was fun later night option in long beach (last call for dine in 10:30). I love how the place was decorated vibrantly but also felt homey-- a perfect place for a catch up with friends. We got the crispy duck rolls, dry tom yum noodles and larb salad. All the flavors were as vibrant as their decorations. I particularly enjoyed the tangy and smokiness of the larb salad-- a must get for me. The tom yum noodles/pasta was rich and savory but just a little too sweet for me (adding a lime would help). We got medium spice for this but felt we could do spicy to extra spicy next time. The crispy duck rolls were the perfect start and ending to our meal, giving us a satisfying and umami crunch and the duck was not gamey at all. The worker, which I am pretty sure was the owner, was super sweet and offered us free thai teas too. I would definitely come back to try more dishes. Note: parking is mostly street parking, keep your eyes peeled for a spot but we found a spot within a few minutes

Yelp
I love Thai food and my date chose this restaurant for me to try. Since we were the only people dining in, we were sat immediately and waited on. The server was friendly and took our drink order right away. I ordered the Chicken Satay with Chicken Fried Rice. The chicken was just okay with the flavor. I didn't get the curry flavor that I'm used to and it was so overcooked and dry! The rice was also just okay. It lacked flavor and it's so simple. I did love the complimentary fried wontons they provide. The 3 dipping sauces they paired it with were the highlight of the night! They were all spicy but, sweet and flavorful. I probably wouldn't come back but, if you're in the area check them out.

Yelp
My husband follows several people on Instagram and one of them recommended this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. Oh my goodness he was not wrong at all! I love the good vibes in this location. Super clean and everything is in its place. All the plants, garlic and peppers hanging on the wall and the art were beautiful and really added to the ambiance. Spicy Sugar Thai has 5 booths and a few tables in the middle on the inside and about 4 tables outside that could seat 2 people each. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and made good menu suggestions. Customer service was on point and the prices are very reasonable. Every dish we ordered was under $20.00. Definitely a budget friendly restaurant. Before we ordered they brought fried wontons to the table with three sauces. The green sauce was a little spicy but flavorful. I think it would be delicious on eggs. The red sauce was mild in heat and seasoning. The brown sauce was sweet and sour but more on the sweet side with a little tanginess that was enjoyable. We stuck with the green and brown sauces as they were the best. We ordered the Pad Thai no protein, Katt's Special Fried Rice and the Mongolian Beef. The Pad Thai was perfect, full of flavor without being wet or overly sweet. The noodles were cooked just right, not mushy. The peanuts come on the side so you can mix in the amount you want. The fried rice with crispy bacon and sweet Asian sausage was absolutely delicious. The rice was fried but not sticky or greasy. The rice was well seasoned and the veggies still had a crunch to them. That broccoli in the fried rice was seasoned, soft but crunch at the same time, so good. The bacon and Asian sausage were crispy and well cooked. When you bite the Asian sausage it had a little bite but still tender and not salty, greasy or gritty. This was my first time having sweet Asian sausage but not my last! The Mongolian Beef with noodles and white rice on the side had a brown sauce that my husband loved putting over the white rice. Even the hot green tea was good no honey needed. The portion sizes are large enough that we had food leftover that we brought home. A 5-star location that I cannot wait to visit again and try some new dishes!

Yelp

Yelp
Disappointed with this place. We've been going next door to grab boat noodles and Kai soi and figured we'd give this place a try after seeing it in IG. Should have known better. Service was ok, but they delivered our duck rolls to the table next to us and when their rolls were ready the servers were perplex as to whom the second set of rolls belonged to. At this point we were underwhelmed by the nam tok so we're glad we did not receive the rolls. The pad see ew was OK but missing the wok hei flavor. Not much of an ambience, a bit confusing with the wreath of garlic and chili peppers.

Yelp
Went there for early family dinner and it was great. It's a local neighborhood restaurant so it small with cute decor. The services was fantastic. Hard to find parking (but manageable since we went early). The owner was super nice and great. She chatted with us about the foods and Thailand since we're going there for this Christmas vacation. We ordered bunch of mixed foods and it was very good overall (just one dish was abit forgettable, the crying tiger for appetizer, just dried and tasteless). Others dishes are tasty and good portion for the prices. The only thing that I can say is that I requested Thai spicy level and for me, it's just baby level...I kept adding all different types of chilies they have and still not spicy enough, maybe it just me being the Asian I am and I'm prepping for the Thai spicy foods soon.

Yelp
Delicious authentic Thai dishes, but not delicious enough to wait 1.5 hours for. Came here for a Friday dinner at 6:30pm and thought it was going to be a quiet night with the husband. We ordered 4 dishes and were given a heads up that it will take about 15 min to get our food. Next thing we knew it's been 30 minutes. We see a lot of people waiting for Togo orders and every table filled but with no food. Togo orders were going out first, as it seems. Finally got 2 of our orders (garlic crab fried rice and pork nam took). Tip: add the green sauce to the fried rice. Both were delicious but instead of going ham on the dishes, we wanted to wait for the 2 remaining. Another 30 min later to get the fried calamari. At that point, we just wanted to go home and were fed up with waiting. Asked to have our remaining dish packed to go and just eat it all at home. It was our first time here and the wait just killed the experience for us. The wait was no surprise since they have a note at each table. Every order is prepared fresh to order and their kitchen consist of only 2 woks. But to wait for 1.5hrs for 4 dishes is ridiculous.

Yelp
I was really excited for this soup & then sadly the rice was less than half full, and I hate to say, but it's surprisingly really awful. I nicely asked for them to replace the rice that they gave me that was wrapped in plastic within this package. Shockingly! :( They didn't give me a fresh one. Instead, took it out of the plastic.. And I paid for this, which is badly overcooked plastic wrapped rice. The soup is amazing but this is not cool at all. I don't want plastic wrapped microwaved food. The rice is mushy & hard and the worst i honestly ever seen. I'm shocked. Rice is cheap & I paid goooood money for this. ;(( Explained I do not eat food with plastic it's very bad. I'm also sick and reeeeally hungry. And it's late. I had to move my car twice to stop & order from here cause there is no parking which didn't help. But I really wanted to support the local business. I lived in Thailand and the soups very good. But I wouldn't do that to a customer. Lie that the rice is fresh. Otherwise, it looks like a cute place but this is not healthy to serve plastic wrap rice in scorching hott plastic that seeps into the food and then stuffed in this take out box. Ugh. Sorry but it is not acceptable. I Shouldn't have paid for that rice. I can not eat it. Very disappointing. Thank God the soups gooood. Staff were nice other than this. ;( But for that I wouldn't go back. If they change the rice situation. Seems real authentic Thai & ambience is nice. I work too hard for my money.. And I worked in restaurants half my life. Y'all can do better!

Yelp
Came back again to give this place a 2nd chance during no Pride event. The food was great and the service was excellent. Glad we have this place a 2nd chance again.

Yelp
Unfortunately the day we visit the restaurant they were under staff, and the bathroom was out of service.

Yelp
I really love how she took care of my dogs I came to order food with my family and I asked for cooked chicken so I can feed them while I eat. At the outside dining. And she went above and beyond she made cooked chicken with broccoli added water like how I do at home, then served it in a nice big dog bowel. When u treat our dogs right it's the way to our hearts! Thank u for that, and thank u for not serving it steaming hot on a paper plate appreciate the good dog food service ! :)

Yelp
So so so yummy! Tried the yellow thai curry and classic pad thai. The service was so fast and friendly. The food came oit quickly. Would come here again

Yelp
The food here is really good, the service can be very frustrating. Long wait times or screwing up your order. The food is delicious, but don't go too hungry or you could end up hangry in a restaurant full of food. Very small restaurant with not a lot of tables...maybe it's the quantity of take out orders? Not quite sure. We love the Panang curry and the pad see ew. The crispy chicken that came with the Panang curry was overcooked and forgettable. The cashew chicken was a solid dish as well. The free chips with hot sauce were surprisingly flavorful and good.

Yelp
This is cute vibes! I've been here before to pick up an order. The service is good. Food is good because they always have customers! Chow! Parking is street tho!

Yelp
Had a girls dinner after work and this place was on my list to try.. i'm glad this is a local spot for me and my friends. The food was very tasty and you know they definitely take their time cooking.. they literally have a sign that tells you that they make your food to order.. The waitress was very helpful in helping us choose our entrees. She even gave us the secret menu to look at.. All the food was very good and i'll be back to try other dishes for sure. Once you walk in the decor is for sure unique..

Yelp
So.... Thank IG & TikTok for getting us out here. We live in the neighborhood, but we frequent some other Thai places so this place has been on our list because of what we've seen on social media. The servers were really attentive until we realized that there is another menu which was not brought to us. When we asked to see it, it was brought to us and one thing was disappointing is that it didn't really describe items in English or the dishes at length and it was hard to understand what they actually were and the server had a difficult time explaining it to us. We are adventurous eaters, and I am pretty sure that we would've tried those plates even though that the price point is much higher because they are meant to be shared. That menu was a bit confusing. We decided to stick with the basics. We ordered pork Nam Tok, Pad See ew and Duck Rolls. The pork in Nam Tok was the worst pork I've ever had and not just in Thai places or in Nam Tok. The worst anywhere. It tasted like it was meant to be a pork chop, but unfortunately, it had an unpleasant smell and taste to it, and it was burnt beyond necessary. In my experience in Thai restaurants in United States and many many trips in Thailand Pork usually has some fat content in order to make it crispy, juicy and delicious. This was dry and definitely wrong cut of pork for this dish. But I guess, since most of the customers are caucasian, it makes sense. Sadly, the duck rolls never came. The Pad See Ew was lovely actually. When I came to pay the bill at the front, the duck rolls were on the receipt. I told the server that we never received them and she took my receipt back, took the duck roll off, and handed me the new receipt. No eye contact, no apology, no Customer recovery of any sorts in the situation. Such a shame. Maybe our expectations were high. We're still tempted to give it another try and try those mysterious dishes on that secret menu because they do look great but we're probably going to wait it out a little bit so that we can forget about this experience first.

Hector Z.

Yelp
After reading four and five star reviews of this place I was a little apprehensive because you know people tend to overreact and oversell but I'm here to tell you it with everything and more. Ordered Pattaya noodles the classic and it did not disappoint. Tasted fantastic and fresh ingredients. you can tell they take pride in what they do. Also ordered the crab fried rice that was also tasty. But what really sets it off is when you squeeze the lime juice over the food it really pops with flavor, will definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu and Parking was not an issue, but then again, we did go at 2 PM in the afternoon which I'm sure helped.

Yelp
It was 10pm on a Friday night and my tastebuds were craving thai food. Searched Yelp and found this place still opened for dine in. We were only a block away so we thought perfect! Scored a parking in the front as soon as we arrived. The restaurant is bright on the outside so u definitely can spot them easily. Inside ambiance is cozy and cute. All of the staffs were all friendly and welcoming. Menu selection has a lot of delicious foods. The only downside was that they didn't have thai boat noodles. But that's okay. Overall, we will definitely be back for another late night eats.

Yelp
I went here with my sister when I was visiting her in Long Beach. It was a a Wednesday evening and while this is not a huge restaurant, we had no problems getting a table. The atmosphere is friendly and vibrant and clearly a local favorite; there was a lot of takeout orders. Server was friendly, prices are reasonable, and the food itself was delicious! Very authentic and comforting. Check this place out if you're in the area and like Thai food! So good!

Yelp
Delicious! Tried the tom yum soup with shrimp. It was just the right amount spicy, sour, salty and sweet. You get about 5 shrimp, plenty of mushrooms and tomatoes. Also tried the pad kee mao with beef. I was sesoned well with plenty of beef and onions. Lastly was a chicken dish with veggies. None of the dishes were greasy and came out pretty quickly. Got to try sime fried wontons with some mint sauce, sweet and sour and tamarind. soicy but delicious! The staff was very nice and efficient. There is plenty of street parking. I will definitely be back to this location again. yum yum!

Yelp
Came for the food and stayed entertainment. And by that I mean the service was great. The owner was hilarious and made my first visit so memorable. The food was amazing and the Thai tea was phenomenal. I loved the music playing such a vibe. The best part for me was all of the vegan and vegetarian options! I was so overwhelmed but in the best way. The wonton chips were delicious the green salsa was my favorite. The egg rolls were perfectly crispy I can't want to go back.
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
Overall, the food, service, and experience was good. I also liked the relaxed atmosphere and the vintage Thai/Siamese advertisements on the walls--cool and unique décor. I got the Crispy Duck Rolls appetizer and Stir Fry Broccoli. I only gave 4 stars because I was disappointed with the Crispy Duck Rolls. There was practically no meat in there. I felt like I should have just got the veggie rolls. And, they were really chewy (almost like jerky) and hard to eat, as if the wrappers had dried out too much or something. So, that was a downer. But, I would consider going there again.

Yelp
This is a nice late night thai option, but it's not as good as many of the other Thai places around town (in my opinion) I used to eat here pre-pandemic for dine in, and never had an issue. I recently ordered takeout and was underwhelmed with all 4 of the 5 items that I ordered. The gf enjoyed the crab cream cheese wontons, but they are pretty difficult to mess up. I'll order from here again, but probably only when my preferred thai spots are closed. Note: Parking sucks! There was nowhere to park legally , but there is a driveway just next to the restaurant that I was able to park the car at temporarily so I could run in and grab the food. The online ordering process was quick and easy. my $100 order was ready in less than 10 minutes.

Yelp
This is some of the worst overpriced Thai food I've ever had. The veggie spring rolls are just old lettuce and soggy rice noodles. They were $11 so for sad, lettuce and sad noodles..this is disgusting. A side of white rice is tiny! It shouldn't be able to fit in between two of my fingers. This is not enough for a side :( Had I known the descriptions were going to be so off, I would've never tried!

Yelp
The food is so so so good!! We used to love and eat at Naree Thai all the time, one day we wanted to eat Thai and called Naree Thai for 14 mins no one picked up, so we decided to try Spice sugar Thai and we fell in love with their flavors!!! And variety! This is so far the best Thai food I have eaten. Thanks to Nareethai for not picking the phone, we discovered something new and actually love it so much more. Try their pan fried green curry chow mein.. you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Food was amazing here. The portions were generous and the quality was fresh and full of flavor! The service was excellent! Having 4 kids in our party is a little intimidating with how rambunctious our kids are at times but the staff were so sweet with our kids! Thank you for making this restaurant family friendly for us! The restaurant was nice and cozy with limited seating and the restrooms were kept clean and stocked. Again, as a parent, thank you for this. Delicious food, wonderful service and great restaurant! Happy eating! Gen

Last minute dinner decision but did not disappoint! I ordered a Thai tea of course while waiting on my food I enjoyed the chips which were AMAZING. I ordered pork skewers and a side of white rice. My friend ordered some noodles and it was really good. The food came out fast and the restaurant was a cute little place. The only thing that takes away 1 star is the service, they did take a while to check on us and bring us out to go boxes.

Yelp
Amazing food , good customer service and comfortable ambiance. My favorite was the Fresh Rolls and the green curry dumplings. Parking is very very tight so expect a little bit of a walk , we went on a Saturday around 6:30PM we got there just in time it got very very busy around 7PM. It's very worth it!

Yelp
I just love this restaurant! The food is so mouth watering delicious. And what makes them even more extra special is they are open later into the evening. Also, you must try the Melon Balled drink...oh wow...Sooo good for a hot day. If you like melon, you will absolutely love this drink. Just chill and relax. They take their time and I love it because it reminds me to just slow down And they take care in making your food and drinks. You won't be disappointed with the quality.

Yelp
Saw a beautiful pic of their mango sticky rice, but remembered that the season for it is almost over so I wanted to go enjoy it before I lost my chance. I got there right at opening do no one was there yet. The inside had a very dim interior but the sunlight from outside lit it up alot. I ordered some chicken Kao Soi and some green curry dumplings. Everything was excellent. You can never go wrong with Thai food. Every plate is a hit. When I was nearing the end of my meal, I was just about to ask them to prepare my mango sticky rice, when he brought it out at the perfect time! Great service! Parking is primarily by chance, you have to hope a local is leaving when you get there. Limited spaces, otherwise you are going to have to walk a bit to get there. My only con was the noodles splashed alot. Got stains on my pants. Would of liked it if napkins were already on the table somewhere. Would still definitely try again.

Yelp
$21.44 (pad kee mao and thai iced tea) Spicy Sugar Thai - Long Beach monologue: I ordered Pad Kee Mao, mild on the spicy level chart. This meal was absolutely delicious! It was by my 4th bite that I realized there was no false advertisement about this place. "Spicy" is in the name of the restaurant, and yup, it's in the food. But at that mild level, it was that kind of spice where it hurts so good and you can still taste all the seasonings and natural flavors of the items. That hint of spice will get you by the time you blink twice and look out the window. You'll smile and ask for an extra napkin so you can discreetly wipe your nose. Im going to order mild again, lol. Oh and the food was so attractively hot. I did have to wait a few minutes to dig in but that was perfectly fine by me. It was confirmation that it just came off the stove, like 8 seconds ago. And as always, I order a Thai Iced Tea. To my surprise, and it wasn't even my birthday, it came with a whip cream topping. That was a first. But as it melted and mixed in with my tea, it gave my drink a satisfying creamy texture. I enjoyed my food. I enjoyed watching people come in and grab their to go orders. And I enjoyed seeing some folks in there that were obvious regulars. That's a good sign. Needless to say, I'll be back. Oh, p.s. - If you sit inside, be sure to visit when it's a wash hair and clothes day. It's great that they cook the food to order. But, you may walk out of there with your clothes and hair smelling like you worked a 30-minute shift in the kitchen. It's a very mild smell. One of those where you can tell you've been to a restaurant. But I'm not sure if that was from just eating inside or if I grabbed some freshly cooked meal ingredient scents from the air in the few moments I was in the bathroom, which is right by the kitchen. It's a tiny little thing, but enough for you to take care of business and get out. They do have an outside eating option. That's where I'll be next time.

Yelp
Our fantastic experience here started with a really warm greeting in a beautiful restaurant. I came in to ask if we could bring my friend's service dog in. Instead of just agreeing, the server brought a complimentary bowl of chicken and broccoli for the dog. We had complimentary fried wontons and sauces - yum! All of the servers were so kind and welcoming. They offered recommendations, asked if we had been there before. Our mains were delicious (beef pad see ewe and seafood Green curry). A fantastic experience, start to finish.

Yelp
Their seafood ramen fed my SOUL. I was reluctant to try this place because of the spicy 'sugar' component, but don't let that deter you, it's excellent! Friendly staff & service. Along with spicy sugar chips that come when you sit with 3 dipping sauces. Will definitely be coming back!! :)

Yelp
I've passed by this place for a year, but never got around to stopping until very recently. Delicious and authentic Thai food - coming from someone who grew up going to Bangkok and eating at the night markets as well as a bunch of Thai folks in Southeast Asia. What I got: - Larb by Katt: Ground beef (my choice of meat) meat, red and green onions, and cilantro tossed in a spicy lime dressing. Spicy. $12. I was not expecting the amount I received, but that's not a bad thing at all. I love having leftovers, so this was perfect. I ate as much as I could and took the rest home. This was delicious, light, refreshing, spicy, and crunch (thanks to the raw red onions and lettuce). - Prik king: Green beans stir fry with chili paste. With chicken as my choice of meat (for no extra cost) and it was delicious, flavourful, filling, juicy, crunchy, and spicy. I asked for the food to be made extra, extra spicy and they delivered which truly makes Spicy Sugar deserve 7 stars if I'm being honest. Albeit it still wasn't spicy enough for me, my rose did run (which is a good sign for me); the food was delicious, flavourful, and spicy, a rare combination that not many restaurants are able to deliver to me. When I received the check, the owner was kind and checked in on whether the food was too spicy. I let her know that it was delicious but not spicy enough for me, so she offered to go and get more condiments that would make it spicy. I'd have said yes except it was getting late and I had to head home - not the easiest thing to do on a scooter at night, even in bike lanes. I learnt that this used to be the Jitlada chef's restaurant for his daughter, but new owners took it over recently - I forget when exactly, but pandemic times. The new owners are awesome and so welcoming. The ambiance of the restaurant is dim, comfortable, and perfect for dinners with mates, date night, or solo trip for authentic Thai food. Customise your spiciness and you won't regret it. Parking is hard and all street parking but since I came on the scooter, I was able to ask for outside seating and park my scooter behind me.

Yelp
We discovered a new gem to try. Warning up front ... whatever spice you think you can handle, order 1 level lower! Everything was delicious! Chips with sauces were bomb, pad Thai with cheese sounds weird but was bomb also. Mongolian beef was delish, special fried rice was delicious, pork skewers were amazing, duck egg rolls were very good as well. Yelpers get a free drink when they check in. Parking is a bit of a challenge cuz this is right on broadway so side streets are your friend. Give it a shot and I hope you enjoy.
