Sugar Spice Thai Mid City - Review - Mid-City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Located in the old Belizean Paradise space, Spicy Sugar Thai is a charming Thai diner in Mid-City (with a second location in Long Beach) that’s a solid choice for a casual weeknight meal. The menu is long and mixes standard options like pad krapow and tom kha with some eyebrow-raising dishes. Or at least our eyebrows shot up when our server whipped out a blowtorch to melt cheese over their “pad thai meltdown.” Spicy Sugar Thai likes to have fun like that, as seen in its curry-fied chili dogs, blue mango sticky rice, and chicken katsu smothered in panang curry. We appreciate the creativity, but the more traditional dishes like chicken larb with tons of lime, chiles, and rice powder, and the papaya salad with salted crab are what we'd come back for." - Sylvio Martins

Food was amazing. Highly recommend the Tom Yum Soup and the Pad Thai. Also their Thai Coffee was delicious. Will definitely be coming back again!

*UPDATE* I've ordered again a few times to give this location another chance and so glad the 1st instance wasn't my only impression. The spice level and flavor is more accurate to the long beach location, the veggies are enough, it wasn't too oily, and it finally satisfies my craving. Took a few orders to get it right so it might just be whoever is in the kitchen, but it's definitely improved the past couple orders! --- I went to this location cause I'd recently tried the long beach location and was craving their vegan pan fried green curry chow mein (medium spicy, soft tofu). Was so excited to have a closer location in mid city. Unfortunately, they do not seem to make it the same here. What I got tasted more like an alfredo sauce than green curry, and it wasn't the slightest bit spicy (there were also less veggies and tofu in it but I didn't mind since it meant more noodles). It was still tasty but definitely not the same dish I had in long beach and it didn't satisfy my craving. Also, it was really oily. Would try again to see if it was a one-off mistake or if they actually have a completely different recipe and spicy meter from the long beach location.

Google
I ordered this chicken Khao soi It was way too creamy and way too sweet. Too sweet to be a main dish food. It took a while to get my food and my drink , Thai tea. And I asked for more lime and a bit of milk because the tea was too sweet. Then I received a complaint that I was asking too much from the server. She laughed at me and thought asking for these things was ridiculous. Never been treated like this before, so it was very surprising and so next time I wanted some napkins because I never got any I got up myself and went to go get some which I thought was very funny Overrated restaurant

Google
This place was so friendly and tasty. Definitely a homemade, mom and pop vibe rather than a basic "Thai inspired" restaurant. I got the shrimp with noodles and it was the right amount of spicy for "medium level." I felt so comfortable and I loved the ambiance. Can't wait to go back.

Google
We found this nice restaurant through the Google Maps. The restaurant was small but clean and cozy. It had a small parking lot next to the restaurant. The staff was friendly. The food was delicious. The restaurant had a nice movie decor. I love their thai BBQ skewers with sauce. The restaurant was busy, so I recommended you to come early

Google
Just where you don't expect it, there's a great Thai place with a great atmosphere. It's family run and an offshoot of a long beach based main restaurant. It's really good and easy to miss because it's somehow part of the motel. But they took over the motel's sixties style coffee shape and offer tasty and super fresh Thai. I got my usual pad Kee mau and Thai sausage and I ate the latter so fast I nearly forgot to get a pic. To give you an idea of the attention to detail the cabbage in the latter dish was so fresh it was succulent.

Google
Cute Thai restaurant tucked away in the middle of Mid City. Food was delicious and service was great. Love the authentic Thai decor (without trying too hard). Will be back to try some other dishes that caught my eye.

Google
Absolutely delicious. I kid you not, I’ve had Chao Krung, Farmhouse Thai, Spicy BBQ, and Good day Thai, and honestly this this truly hits the spot. As of writing this, the prices are amazing, the food was fresh and yummy, and very cute location (parking a little weird) This was recommended to me by one of my best friends after I called her unsure what to eat, debating having Thai food. She, being an A1 homie, immediately recommends this place. I got the: Chef Katts Famous Penang curry Mid city Pad Gai Sugar Spicy Wings The curry was creamy and super yummy! Pas Gai first time getting, will not be the last! I got this all for take out and for it to still be that good at home is so amazing! Also, they (i think) make their own chili sauce, a green and red one, that was soooo good. Anyways, if it’s not great, then blame the internet, if it’s yum, enjoy! thanks again Nicole!

Yelp
I think I just found my new favorite Thai restaurant! I'm always in the search for the best yellow or parang curry! The food here is delicious! Yellow curry was bomb af! Must try! Def coming back to try more of their food!

Yelp
This place was amazing with very authentic Thai dishes that came with the real Thai taste. So many varieties of rare dishes that feel like eating them in Thailand. Service was nice and friendly but a bit slow, cause the server had work loaded. Easy parking in the front. Recommended!!

Yelp
On a cold Saturday after a sweaty yoga class, my girlfriend and I were craving soup, and I had been on the hunt for some Thai spices. We found this little spot, though it was a bit tricky to locate since it's tucked behind another small street behind the motel. I started with the chicken sugar spicy wings, then had their khao soi as my main meal. The curry soup was rich, thick, and packed with flavor--I especially loved the coconut milk. It's best enjoyed hot because the flavors don't come through as well once it cools down. I do wish there was more chicken instead of just the drumstick. Unfortunately, they didn't have Thai boat noodles, which was what I had originally been craving. My girlfriend went for the seafood combo tom yum with added broccoli and a side of white rice. One downside was that I didn't see their usual sauce cups with peppers, red pepper flakes, and ground peanuts. But I really liked the interior--the old-school posters on the walls gave it such a nostalgic feel.

Yelp
Placed a simple order and it was ready for pick up within 15mins. The wait on every available app incl direct site was extremely long. Very tasty and would definitely order again for a quick bite/lunch.

Yelp
Unique food experience I think Spicy Sugar Thai has unique food options and some out-of-this-world fusion and exotic dishes. For example, they add cheese to Pad Thai. More surprisingly, there is a dish with real ant eggs that I wanted to try but it was $20 and my wimpy friends didn't want to try with me. So I ended up sticking to safe options because I cannot finish two meals when of them is an appetizer. Thai tom yum ramen 4/5. I like the toppings but I wish it wasn't ramen. I'm not a big fan of instant ramen. I think it is a lazy way to make a dish. Thai tofu panang curry 4/5. The sauce is super rich and creamy, too coconutty. I like it though but that whole meal just looks so stuffed. Vegan hot dog 1/5. The vegan hot dog tastes so vegan. The hot dog is veggie like, and the curry is the same curry they used on the tofu red curry. Overall it was a good experience. Parking was plenty on the lot that says motel lot and the street parking. I'd come again for the exotic food if someone goes with me.

Yelp
I ordered the panang curry with tofu and also the Thai curry dog. The panang curry was just ok. To its credit, it had a lot of tofu and pumpkin, but I found the curry itself to be too salty and overwhelmingly pungent for my personal taste. The Thai curry dog was yummy and definitely unique. I enjoyed the drizzle of the panang curry and it didn't overwhelm the palate. The carrot on top added a nice subtle crunch. I found the hot dog obviously messy to eat. The vegan dog itself was just ok. I think any meat eaters would feel similarly but great for vegetarians or vegans! My friends had the ramen and I got to try some. It was light and zesty-- delicious. There was only one waiter so service was a bit slow. When we entered, no one greeted us and we seated ourselves. We had to call to get their attention when we were ready to order. The restaurant was mostly empty when we came too. Though the restaurant seems very popular with takeout orders. My table had not been cleaned/wiped properly and there was something sticky on the table. Street parking was easy on a weekday at 8pm (considering they close at 9pm). I did find the pricing to be a bit higher than other Thai restaurants in the area, like other Yelpers have mentioned. All in all, I had a very much okay experience here and that's okay!

Yelp
We found Spicy Sugar on Instagram and decided to come by while we were in the area for a dinner date. They have really good reviews on Yelp so we had high expectations and we were pretty impressed with the quality of their food. The restaurant is located right next to a Motel, even sharing their bathroom with it, and has street parking available. The place is small but has indoor and outdoor dining areas but currently their restaurant sign isn't lit up so we at first thought they weren't open. Today we shared a few items: the pork skewers(delicious and smoky, the sauce was spicy!), the tom yum soup with shrimp(also very good), and the pad see ew(a little salty but still tasted good). The server was nice and gave us an appetizer of wonton chips with three dipping sauces, two being very spicy and one just sweet and sour. Everything was good and you could tell that they are very popular so going early for dinner is a good idea because of the small size of the restaurant. They also had a lot of togo/delivery orders including one that was late and seemed to cause a little friction with the server and the cook. Our meal with tip was about $75 but we have a favorite Thai restaurant in SGV that offers slightly better food and is about half the price. But Spicy Sugar is definitely up there with the top Thai flavors we've tried.

Yelp
Absolutely Delicious Food. I came back twice to make sure it was consistent and consistent it was. They are always so busy when I come and frankly quite understaffed, but they still do extremely well. They serve free crackers with a side of spicy sauce. My favorite is the green chili one with 2 slices of lime squeezed on to it. They are very kind and check in with you as much as they could! It's a very small place and gets crowded super easily. So it might be a wait, but its totally worth while. Price wise: It's okay, not too pricey and not too cheap as well. Love it! Also, very accessible and plenty of street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
The tom kha is so good here. However, you only get a few shrimp so it's pretty expensive for what it is. The wings are just ok. The green sauce they have here is like crack, it's so so good. The Phuket ramen was a bit disappointing. The soup was so delicious, but I got 4 small pieces of crispy pork, 3 shrimp, and 2 mussels with instant ramen for the noodles. I'm conflicted because I think the food is overall pretty delicious here, but the portions are really stingy.

Yelp
The service is just as good as the food and the food is even better. The sauce caused me immense pain which is great because unspicy sauce is an affront to god. I came in with a friend who stole my sauce at one point but i will not be holding that against this establishment. The atmosphere is composed of mostly nitrogen with a good amount of oxygen - the perfect amount of oxygen. The lighting was brighter than my future which is just bright enough if you ask me. I really loved this place, the food was fresh and delicious and the staff was very kind - I will be coming back!

Yelp
This Thai spot is located on busy La Brea, right next to a motel. It has a huge banner outside that says "Thai food" just in case you speed past it. All I can say is WOW! Chef Katt def knows what she's doing in the kitchen! All of the food was extremely delicious. Here is what my boyfriend and I ordered- Cashew Nutty Chicken- Ugh, amazing. This dish had the appropriate amount of seasoning. The chicken was so juicy and tender. Crispy Duck rolls- These are my absolute favorite! The duck was so crispy and flavorful omg. And the sauce that comes with it? Beautifully made! My mouth is watering while I'm typing this. Def recommend this dish! Papaya salad (Som Tum Thai salad)- This salad most certainly had a kick to it. It was fresh and crunchy. Taste buds had a party forsure. Pork Nam Tok- The pork was tender and scrumptious. We got this dish in "mild" and it was the perfect amount of heat. Again, def recommend this dish! All in all, I'm extremely happy that this spot opened up in my neighborhood. I hope Chef Katt continues to be successful. Please support small businesses :)

Yelp
Ok this place is such a cute little gem. Immediately feels like your family is hosting you for dinner! The Thai iced tea is perfect. The wonton chips and dips are so so good. Tom kha soup was divine. It was my first time here and I can't wait to come back! Make sure to ask for Sofia. She'll take the best care of you

Yelp
FIREEE. The food here was so tasty and the booths are super vibes. We ordered the crispy duck rolls which had a amazing sauce and good balance of veggie and duck. The thai bbq skewers very juicy and yummy. The dry tom yum noodles very delicious as well. It came with shrimp and it was a fettuccine and had a perfect consistency. The Garlic and Crab fried rice was also bomb. Overall super good food and fast service.

Yelp
Amazing service and food from the start was so tasty!! Ordered the pad Thai & Tom kha and couldn't get enough- love love love will come back here

Yelp
This place is close by. I cannot believe I haven't tried it before. This small restaurant is in the front of a hotel. It has a unique vibe, almost American diner but with Thai movie posters and artwork. We sat down and were given menus. I love menus with pictures and on this menu, everything looked good. We finally settled on Duck Larb, Green Curry Dumplings and Cashew chicken and Mango with Sticky Rice. All of it was delicious. Yet there was so many other things on the menu that I would love to go back and try. The service was fast and friendly. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Cool little Thai place in the LA Melrose area. Very interesting decor, neo lights and ambiance. Was nice and quiet for our date. Got busy as soon as we came in but mostly to-go orders. Love a place where they ask you the spice level so you won't be surprise or not be able to eat the food if it's too spicy. Wanted to explore as it was well rated, it did not disappoint. The favor of the dishes and hot sources were flavorful. Will def come back and try more options next time.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food!! We got takeout from here after going to a USC football game and it hit the spot. Generous portions, flavorful (but not too salty), and great pricing. It's a little challenging to find and can't speak to the restaurant ambiance, but our takeout experience was lit.

Yelp
So far everything had been fire! Also ordered vegan dishes and so good so far! Everything has been great and service has been excellent

Yelp
A little south of the Mcdonald's on La Brea is a small side street. Take that and takes you to a hella cute Thai place called Spicy Sugar Thai, located between the overgrown street shrubbery and the nondescript hotel. Spicy Sugar Thai is a small restaurant, decorated in cheery neon, old school Thai cinema posters and knick knacks ranging from cultural decor to pop culture urban vinyl toys. It is a place I would love to sit in and just be surrounded by cute visuals, ample sunlight and the sounds of a bustling kitchen, friendly chat and a TV playing in the background. First time visit, I got there right before 12 noon. Greeted by the hostess and the chef, the customer service was friendly and inviting. I ordered take out so she gave me wonton chips with their housemade hot sauce, which by the way, IS PHENOMENAL. Make sure they give you plenty of it. First dishes I got there were chicken satay and crispy pork green curry. I normally don't order chicken satay but whatever possessed me to buy it, I thank it. Chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly. It is juicy and not dry as I normally experience other satays. Crispy pork belly green curry has lived in my mind for the last three weeks since my visit. It is so good that I question ordering anything else for my second visit. It comes with white rice but I should have ordered one more scoop as they were generous with their serving. So much flavor, such good food and great service! Oh and just a heads up, the hostess (and I can verify because I have seen it) says that they get super busy during the evenings due to in-dining guests and delivery.

Yelp
We pass by this place all the time but never noticed it. Super tiny restaurant hidden away in the middle of nowhere. It's right next to a few sketchy looking hotels so it's easily overlooked. No need to worry about street parking here ! There's a free lot right next door. We ordered: Cream cheese won ton Penang curry Chicken pad Thai one Thai iced tea & one coke Totaling $75 The portions were pretty small so not ideal for sharing. Only one server working so service was super slow. We did notice she served the other guests free wonton chips before they ordered but didn't bring our table any. Maybe they're for regular customers ? They don't have your typical pickled Thai chili condiments. Instead they have their house special sauces. The food was good but nothing special. I felt like we paid $75 for a meal that's really worth 40.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Food was awesome. You can decide on your level of spice. Medium was good for me. Cute little spot. Close to home. Leftovers!

Yelp
Love that they opened this Thai place at such an obscure location. It is connected to a small motel off La brea. What we tried so far deserves a return visit to try other items on their menu. The fish was a bit pricey but it was also huge enough to share. Loved the crispy duck roll.

Yelp
SERVICE - located off of La Brea Ave attached to a small hotel - limited parking in front - indoor seating for small groups - service can take a while since there are very few staff members - ambiance good for casual meal MENU - traditional and fusion Thai dishes - vegan and gluten free options - average price ($17 per entree) FOOD - vegan khao soi (8/10): yellow curry base with rice noodles topped with tofu, pickled mustard, onions, and chili. I made this vegan by substituting the egg noodles for rice noodles and choosing tofu as the protein option. Although I had ordered fried tofu, she gave me soft which actually worked well since it absorbed the flavors of the curry. This is one of the most authentic tasting curries I have tried with a good mix of warm and spicy flavors. The pickled mustard adds an acidic touch to balance out the richness of the coconut milk. It is a perfect cozy dish for a rainy day. I would not recommend ordering it for takeout because the noodles may get clumpy. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! It is a hidden gem with great food
google avatar

Virginia B.

Yelp
Passed by this place many times and finally got to try it today! We got the green curry dumplings to start. If I wasn't in public I would've licked that bowl clean- the curry sauce was so good! My boyfriend and I both got the Pad See Ew. Mine was medium spice level with chicken and his was mild with beef. We both really enjoyed our dishes! I thought that the medium spice level would've been more spicy but it was a perfect balance of heat and flavor. We ordered the mango sticky rice to go. Despite it being to go, they packaged it beautifully. Our server was very nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend for anyone craving Thai food in mid city!
google avatar

Eboni B.

Yelp
WOW. Fellow Yelp Friend, Alfie, reviewed this place and had green curry w/ crispy pork belly. if i wasn't against eggplant, in general, i would've followed suit. However I DID follow suit in getting the crispy pork belly...with panang. AND i got a thai coffee, sooo good. didn't have anything to pack for left overs, because I ate it in its entirety. The dish was beautiful, I'm a sucker for pretty plates and bowls. According to the media in the restaurant they have a Long beach location as well. The owner (Female, woot woot) was present while I was there and was super warm and stopped to chat. Atmosphere was down to earth, music was good, easy parking. Came in for an early lunch hour on a Friday and it was just a few folks, so service was really quick. WILL be back.

Yelp
Looking through Thai food for this rainy day in LA... As we are sick.... I thought some good Curry sounds delicious!!! Well I am soo glad, Yelp recommend you! Well food is delicious!! The taste is on point and the option of Spicy Thai give it an amazing taste to all plates... My only thing is the small rice... would have liked to have an option to pick how much do I want to buy. Or maybe I missed the option... (but I swear I looked for it) anyway... We recommend!! Now I know a place that can deliver and is delicious!
google avatar

Keyva C.

Yelp
The food was delicious and I was very impressed with the menu. We ordered the Thai style calamari, chicken Larb, fried fish, fried rice, and pad kee mow. This place is super cute and I loved how the place is decorated with all the Thai movie posters, lovely ambiance to say the least. Service was amazing! Definitely will be going back.
google avatar

Julia A.

Yelp
Delicious panang curry with pumpkin! I ordered with crispy pork. I would definitely come back when in the area.
google avatar

Dipti B.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. My favorite dish is the spicy basil fried rice even though I'm a baby and usually get it mild, despite its name. Sometimes I feel like going for it and order it medium. It's fantastic either way. I love it with shrimp. The staff here are so kind and friendly. The interior is small, cute and casual. It's a mellow place to be with a friend or solo.
google avatar

Safiya C.

Yelp
Great space and art, great service, and food. They were very busy but made sure to be attentive to everyone.
google avatar

Siva M.

Yelp
I almost want to give this place a bad review to keep people out, lol, but this place is so amazing I can't bring myself to do it. My favorite hole in the wall thai spot. MUST eat the tom kha soup- the best I've honestly ever tasted. Other great things: chef Katt sausage fried rice, khao soi chicken (YUM), green curry dumplings, ramen stir fry.... This place is awesome. It's a mom and pop shop so it's small inside, sometimes they don't answer their phone and sometimes stuff drops in and out of the uber eats menu, but worth it. Carries out well and leftovers are yummm.
google avatar

Glydia C.

Yelp
Got a stomach ache after dining here, not sure from what. Tom yum was tasty, the rice noodle dish with chicken was tasty and we ordered the curry dumplings. The curry dumplings were totally skippable. I would stick with the staples even though they have an inventive/innovative menu. The fish is the thing to get I guess but we didn't try it. I probably wouldn't go back, this spot isn't too close to me.
google avatar

Van C.

Yelp
Bomb Thai food on La brea that's authentic and not overpriced, say less I'm on the way. Waiter always pokes fun at me ordering 2 items late night but oh well. Thai food is supposed to be family style can't just get one thing! Highly recommend if you're in the area craving good thai food especially to go.
google avatar

Samantha D.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Spicy Sugar Thai and loved it. I ordered the chicken satay which was delicious and I also got their Cashew Nutty chicken which was also good! I got a medium flavor and moving forward i would probably go for something a little spicier since it wasn't too spicy. The space is a small space for people to sit and eat but it looked really home-y and there were quite a few groups of people there on a Wednesday night. Service was great. The lady at the front packaged up my order and when i wanted to add on a thai tea because i forgot to order it, she gave it to me free of charge because of my support in buying food from them which was SUPER nice of her. Will 100% be returning and trying out more food
google avatar

Mico S.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing!!!! This place was so fantastic and everything we had ordered was just so delicious. I couldn't stop eating when we came here. The owner talked to us since there were not a lot of people in the restaurant at the time and is he genuinely so friendly and interesting. Will definitely come back here.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Their phone doesn't work... You try to call to place an order, and you get an automated message saying that their mailbox has not been set up and they are not accepting messages. You try to place an order on their website, and the website ordering is broken. Does this place even exist? It's inossible to say. But if it's impossible to order food from them, they might as well not.

K J.

Yelp
Food: pretty good. Hard to compete with Thai town but a decent non Thai town spot. Curry dumplings. Phuket ramen. Ka Prow. Chicken panang cutlet all very good. Crab fried rice excellent Pass on duck rolls , curry hot dog, curry chow Mein Overall 4 stars for food Space : cut small space but clean and homey feel. Service. Very friendly and kind. But it can be very slow. In person , call in, online. We've eaten here minimum 12x due to proximity and we tried all three dining in, calling in to go, doing online to go. So just be aware that if they tell you 30 minutes assume it's 50 minutes if they tell you 40 minutes assume it's over an hour and 10 minutes Once we were told 35 minutes and it took an hour and 20 minutes Food is delicious but be aware of the time constraints. It could be that they're popular for the neighborhood due to it's location and not having realistically any other Thai restaurants close by but they should have some type of realistic timeframe when you place your order or at minimum allow text updates if it is going to be delayed so that you don't drive there and still have to wait another half hour
google avatar

Nicole V.

Yelp
Absolutely love. Decor, food, service everything was great. We came here for lunch and were seated quickly. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows which makes the space really bright. As soon as we were seated we were given complimentary fried wontons as an appetizer which was a great way to try the sauces, which were all delicious. We ordered the crispy pork green curry (the pork was so crisply even in the curry!), Thai sausage (my fave), crying tiger beef (bf fave), and crab & cream cheese wontons. Everything came quickly and again was so good. I can't wait to come back when it's cooler to try all the soups.

Yelp
Solid Thai food, authentic but kind of pricey. $24 for pad Thai shrimp, ate the whole thing though and very close to the house so will go again and try some of the other items!

Yelp
In a word..... brilliant. But Yelp won't let me leave just one word so here are some more. Divine Heavenly Superlative Delicious Amazing Tremendous Awesome. More flavor per bite than a saffron salad drizzled In yuzu covered in truffle and dipped in joy.

Yelp
My husband and I came here randomly for a Saturday dinner, not really expecting too much just because the Thai places we've tried in LA are all about the same level of quality (which is to say: they're just good). However, that's not what we experienced at Spicy Sugar. We each got an appetizer: spicy sugar wings and pork Thai BBQ skewers. The wings were perfectly crispy, moist, and sauced, and the skewers were tender and well-seasoned. Also the restaurant has small jars of spicy green, mild red, and sweet sauce to put on your food, and I liked having bites trying out the different sauces. Our entrees were the yellow curry and the pad gai. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the pad gai was great, but the yellow curry came first and it blew us away with how full of flavor it was: I've never had Thai curry be so well-spiced before! For dessert we got the mango sticky rice which was also incredible, and each pile of rice has a different flavor profile which was really cool. I've never had blue rice before! I'm so glad this place opened up and is less than a mile from us. This will surely go into our restaurant rotation.

Yelp
I want to return and give this place a five star review. The service was great. The food was okay. I liked that they have a ton of vegan options so I'm excited to try them again once they get everything sorted out. They had a couple mishaps as it was the 5th day of their grand opening. Super easy parking.

Yelp
Food was yummy and came quickly. Very reasonable prices. It's a very small place, so get there early or make reservations (CALL ahead, not the wait list on Yelp)

Yelp
Food is great, but they have their favorite customers so your order gets pushed behind others:

Yelp
This place really annoyed me. I wanted it to be bad because I called to ask for a side of chili sauce and they said I should have ordered it (meaning pay for it). Even after asking nicely, they didn't add it to my order. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I wanted to because of their stinginess. Well.. after one bite of their food, I realized it didn't matter. It didn't matter because one of the best things ever happened. I just realized I found THE BEST THAI RESTAURANT IN LA. I have been eating Thai food for 20 years in LA. I have tried everywhere. I have even gone to Thailand. Nowhere has been as good as this place. Everything was just on point. The biggest issue with Thai food in LA is if one thing is amazing somewhere, the other items are bad or just ok. You always wish you can mix your favorite dishes from different Thai restaurants in LA to make the perfect meal. I'm not listing what was good, because it's all good. I didn't want to like you Spicy Sugar, now I love you.

Yelp
This spot is a family run small joint., Katt and her daughter Eden were very welcoming and super nice. They are understandably very proud of their restaurant. They should be. The food was super tasty. Everything was good like really good. They have three table sauces. One sweet, one red and one green. Red and green are HOT. But not too hot for me anyway. Red is a garlicky flavor hot. Super tasty. I love a good satay !! This one did not disappoint the sauce here is very nice. A little mixed with their Red hot sauce is very good.. This is a small neighborhood joint. Plenty of parking. Mid city is lucky to have a nice new little family run Thai joint.

Yelp
Everything was delicious the spicy sauce that the wontons come with is the bomb! Portions feel a bit small but it's enough.

Yelp
This spot is definitely unique as it's located in one of those old school diner type buildings and is attached to a motel. The one and only server who was working seemed to have his hands full at like 70% capacity. Drinks came out a bit slow and so did the food. When the food arrived it was like room temperature. The food was good but definitely not something to write home about. I enjoyed the courtesy fried wontons they gave with the green chutney and sweet and sour sauce. Honestly that was the star of the meal. Server did a good job and was very apologetic about the service but it's understandable as he's the only staff on hand. This place has potential.
