A little south of the Mcdonald's on La Brea is a small side street. Take that and takes you to a hella cute Thai place called Spicy Sugar Thai, located between the overgrown street shrubbery and the nondescript hotel. Spicy Sugar Thai is a small restaurant, decorated in cheery neon, old school Thai cinema posters and knick knacks ranging from cultural decor to pop culture urban vinyl toys. It is a place I would love to sit in and just be surrounded by cute visuals, ample sunlight and the sounds of a bustling kitchen, friendly chat and a TV playing in the background.
First time visit, I got there right before 12 noon. Greeted by the hostess and the chef, the customer service was friendly and inviting. I ordered take out so she gave me wonton chips with their housemade hot sauce, which by the way, IS PHENOMENAL. Make sure they give you plenty of it.
First dishes I got there were chicken satay and crispy pork green curry. I normally don't order chicken satay but whatever possessed me to buy it, I thank it. Chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly. It is juicy and not dry as I normally experience other satays.
Crispy pork belly green curry has lived in my mind for the last three weeks since my visit. It is so good that I question ordering anything else for my second visit. It comes with white rice but I should have ordered one more scoop as they were generous with their serving.
So much flavor, such good food and great service!
Oh and just a heads up, the hostess (and I can verify because I have seen it) says that they get super busy during the evenings due to in-dining guests and delivery.
