Yelp
Spin Pollo is a newer Peruvian eatery that had opened up in the Kingstowne area - I had heard some rave reviews about this place from those who live in the area, stating that it's one of their top choices for meals.
The menu offers family styles, chicken combos with sides or no sides, wings, subs, and even house specialties (such as the lomo saltado).
We had the following order to go:
+Yuquita Balls - you can choose between 3- or a 5-piece order, in which we opted for the 3 pieces; these were mashed yuca balls stuffed with a blend of 3 different types of cheese inside; unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of these, as these tasted more like a dessert rather than a savory appetizer; also, the cheese inside were a bit coagulated and not the lovely melty consistency that you expected; also, I feel the oil could be changed as there was an off-putting taste to these
+1 Whole Chicken with 2 Sides - from the extensive list of sides, we went for the mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side; I felt the chicken itself was not flavorful - the skin had its spices and seasonings, which made it super salty, but none of that permeated through the meat; the chicken itself was extremely large in size - think of like double the size of Costco's rotisserie chicken; it kind of freaked me out in how large their chicken was; I also felt the chicken could have been cooked longer, as there were some areas that were red/pink, which is a huge no in my book
Also, the prices here are definitely steep; considering, the place is super stingy with their sauces. Note that only 6 little cups of sauce come with a whole chicken, but at least the sauces could be filled to the top rather than halfway - pretty janky, if you ask me.
From this meal, we had enjoyed the mashed potatoes immensely; the gravy wasn't need, and it was weird with its clear liquidy look, but the potatoes themselves were super whipped, creamy, and buttery - definitely one of the better sides we've had in a while.
Not sure if this place is worth a return visit, but I'm glad I was able to give them a try.
