Step into a recreated 1901 boomtown where the Lucas Gusher changed history. Operated by Lamar University, it offers living-history demos and a meaningful context for the city’s oil heritage.

Stopped in on a spur of the moment decision and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was super friendly and I could talk to the blacksmith all day. It was very interesting local history and they have some really cool artefacts. The buildings were nice and cool and the price was well worth it. Bathrooms were very clean. I believe it was about $13-$15 for me and my two girls. Takes about an hour to browse through but you could definitely spend longer if you are a history buff. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area looking for something to do on a hot or rainy day.

Very cool museum to visit. Plus, being over 60 years old, it was very affordable, only $3.00 each. The staff were warm and friendly.

The Spindletop Museum of Beaumont offers a captivating journey back in time. Each room exudes a unique atmosphere, providing an immersive experience. It’s a delight for kids, and the antique machines add an intriguing touch. Summer visits are enjoyable but be sure to take shade and stay hydrated. Highly recommended for history enthusiasts and families alike.

Have to admit, I did not have high hopes but was very pleasantly surprised! The movie is VERY basic, but shares lots of interesting things I never knew! The buildings are very well done and maintained. Lots of really cool oldstuff. Great way to spend a few hours.

Unexpectedly awesome little museum! Easy to see very quickly or take your time and still be done in an hour or so. Tools, machines, and lots of daily living artifacts make this a must-see while in Beaumont. The energy in a barrel of oil has freed humans from manual labor worldwide. (And now let’s move on…) Air conditioned throughout and at 12 noon a gushing hydrant shoots 6,000 gallons of water into the sky in 2 minutes! I recommend it!

This is a very informative museum about the big oil boom of the early 1900s.

Nice little bit of local history with buildings of the times filled with labeled items of the era. Nice and welcoming Lady at front. Cool how oil was found! A must see for the area.

This is a decent place to spend some time. We went for the 123rd anniversary, and the DJ music was a bit loud. However, the other musical opportunities were fantastic! I probably wouldn’t suggest this attraction for beginner museum-goers, as many items are not labeled. However, those with a little historical knowledge under their belts should truly enjoy this little gem.

Yelp
Once upon a time, there were boom towns around Texas. Both Spindletop and Glady are one of them. This museum made me feel like living in the early 20th century. The admission was only $5. I visited on Thursday, May 27th at 10am. The museum was empty. It looked like a real ghost town. The buildings were well preserved. I saw ACs which were not supposed to be in the towns 120 years ago. It was okay. Texas is too hot. I was on the benches and googled the towns. This museum encouraged me to learn the history of Beaumont and oil industry in Texas!

Yelp
Did you know that in 1901 Texans struck gushing amounts of oil near Beaumont that created the oil boom in Texas?! Checkout the "Spindletop-Gladys City- Boomstown!" They have recreated this little town using authentic wood from that time period and real antiques from the town. It is a self guided tour. You can walk around the grounds, read the informational signs and actually walk inside the buildings, such as the barber shop, the hotel, the saloon and post office. I found the history fairly interesting (I'm not a huge history buff) but I thoroughly enjoyed going into the buildings looking at the artifacts. The place kind of reminded me of a museum/haunted town, it was sort of spooky at times! Time to explore: 30 minutes-1 hour Cost: $5 for adults (they also senior & military discounts) Website: https://www.lamar.edu/spindletop-gladys-city/index.html

Yelp
Right across the street from Lamar University, this museum is just fun for adults and kids. Lots of visuals, hands-on things. You walk from old-timey house to old-timey house. Inside, there are period set-ups with period appropriate furnishings, items of every-day use. There's a saloon, printer's shop, merchandise store, post office, etc. It has something for every age. You can get an audio tour for free with your paid admission, but we really just enjoyed walking around. I would like to see more explanation of, for example, the photographer's studio, with labels for items, explaining how they worked or just more historic information. I was left wondering about many items I saw. Wonderful overview of an era, well worth the visit.
