BLUF: DON’T USE THE QR CODE
I was looking for a sit down place that wasn’t packed - I should have taken that as a sign….
The waitress had us pick our table and handed us menus. On every table, there is a QR code that says, “Scan to Order & Pay.” Before the waitress came back, I ordered and paid for my food using the QR code. When she returned, she said the QR doesn’t work and I’ll have to pay the traditional way (card reader brought to the table). I checked my account and I had been charged for the order placed prior to her return. The waitress claimed that it will be suspended, but given the lack of upfront communication, I’m very skeptical.
Prior to receiving our food, the waitress came back with the card reader expecting me to pay. I said I’m not paying until we receive the food and will tip accordingly, but I will not preemptively tip given our first interaction. She tried to say it was protocol, however I’ve never been to a sit down restaurant where you tip beforehand.
Food was mediocre - to be expected to airport food.
At the end, when she cleared the table, she said, “I’m sorry, I have to bring the check now.” Yes…now is an appropriate time to bring the check.
