okay, so my thing is this: I really, really want to be a polite, low-stress, fun guest wherever I go, and especially when I’m abroad as a foreign visitor. And with a group a five, we wanted to get drinks here, hoping for some sunset view and fancy, comfy hanging out. We did get seated, but couldn’t sit near the front of the outdoor area which is reserved for guests of the hotel. Then we waited and waited and waited (maybe 20 minutes? Maybe more.) for someone to take our order. We were informed we needed to all be on one check. No problem, we can work it out and we don’t want to be a pain. Our drinks were eventually served. And then literally no one ever came by ever again. Because we’re in the back row, one person dropped a little battery power lamp off and then later came by and turned it on, but when it had been, truly, I’m not kidding, a whole hour + with no one having walked near our row, we started trying to gesture to get the bill. We got one guy’s attention, and he signaled back that he would handle it— but then he never came to us or sent the person who should be taking care of us, for 10-15 more minutes. So we started gesturing again. I hate this, because remember I really want to be polite, low-maintenance, and pleasant to be around. But like, what can we do? We’ve been taking up these chairs for 2 hours and only had one round of drinks. We don’t want to run out on the bill, but it’s truly impossible to get any help. We could only get the same guy’s attention again and he again acknowledged us and disappeared. Time passed. We gave up on that and went to the host desk to try to pay. Now that we are all standing up, staff are paying attention to us, but seriously, what is going on? Why can’t they find anyone to just hand us a bill? Maybe you think I am exaggerating but we arrived at 4:30 and couldn’t get out until 6:30, and the longer and harder it was to get anyone to help the more frustrated and annoyed we were becoming. So this is the real reason for my rating, because this fancy hotel turned me into the kind of foreigner in Brazil that i really really don’t want to be, but all just trying to get a basic transaction done.
Oh, and by the way, you can't see the sunset from here anyway- it faces Copacabana/East, not West.
