"Spoke is a bicycle repair shop/all-day hangout right on the LA River that somehow also feels like a summer camp. At night it’s usually pretty empty, which means you can text half your contact list and still feel like you have the place to yourself. Everybody orders individually from the counter inside, and unlike summer camp, this Frogtown spot has food you’ll actually want to eat (try the veggie burger). "It’s difficult to overstate how great a patio can be. And Spoke Bicycle Cafe in Frogtown has a really great - and really massive - patio, plus a good beer list and a solid selection of food you’ll want to eat any time of day. Their vegetarian burger makes us think we could give up beef forever, and we also usually order the simple-but-excellent breakfast bun with soft-scrambled eggs, and the really good California chop salad. Spend a couple hours playing board games and drinking beer on their patio, and Mike from Santa Monica will start to wonder if he shouldn’t look at real estate in Frogtown - a sentence you never thought you’d hear." - brett keating
"Spoke Bicycle is part cafe, part bicycle repair shop, and the most Eastside place that’s ever existed. Nobody should come here expecting to rip shots and wild out on the dance floor. You come to Spoke to sit around with your friends and discuss that documentary on fracking you just watched, eat a fantastic veggie burger, and drink lots of wine and beer. "Spoke is a bicycle shop and all-day spot in Frogtown with a big river-adjacent patio ideal for hanging out on a Saturday morning and watching the neighborhood shake off its hangovers. Most of the menu is solid (particularly their house cold brew and veggie burger), but the breakfast bun sandwich is a must. The combination of soft scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese on a squishy griddled bun is familiar, but it's the sweet caramelized onions mixed with their smoky house sauce that stand out.
