Really cool restaurant in the heart of Belhaven. The interior is quite open, with high ceilings and unique decor. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server, Jacob, was helpful and attentive. The food was phenomenal. My partner had the pork chop and the sauce was incredible! I had the crabcakes, and they too were flavorful and delicious. We had a wonderful evening!

Pam F.

Google
Luv this restaurant. I had a child's meal . 2 small cheeseburgers & they were great. Had a good charred grill taste. The crab cakes Eggs Benedict & the shrimp & grits was also yummy. We had Mimosa's that were very tasty. They have 3 different flavors. Our waitress was very good & personable. Can't wait to return.

Google
We have never had a bad experience here. The food and staff are always great, i love that they change up the menu, you get great portions and options, and the restaurant itself is like sitting in a dream. It’s one of our favorite restaurants ever.

Google
I fell in love with this place two years ago while on a duck hunting trip. Loved meeting Teresa and Mark. Great people. Finally got a chance to take my wife Sheila as well as our friends Dan and Kristine. Now they know why I am so crazy about this restaurant and the owners. We will be back again soon.

Janna K.

Google
It was a busy summer Sunday at the restaurant but we were not in a hurry. The generous portion of fish & chips were delicious. Hope to return some day.

Google
What an absolutely amazing place and meal. Upon walking in me and my two girlfriends were greeted with a warm welcome and smile and seated. We were told about the appetizer and dinner specials and offered a drink. I got the meatballs as an appetizer for us all to share which had a great flavor and was delicious. For dinner I had the beef tips, huge portions and well seasoned. We were offered a desert of fresh blue berries and peaches with ice cream and whipped cream The server was very polite and attentive, the owner took time to check on us as well as chat about the place and a little bit about herself. The chef introduced himself as well. To say the experience was delightful is an understatement, an absolute amazing experience.

Google
We enjoyed a tasty meal @ Spoon River, Matt did a job taking care of us. Sorry no picture of dessert however it was delicious.

Google
Spoon River is the pearl of Belhaven! We simply can not say enough wonderful things about this food, these people, and this beautiful space. We were blessed to have our wedding reception in the events space at Spoon River. Teresa and Mark went above and beyond to make our intimate wedding celebration dreams come true. Every detail was executed so well! The space was beautifully decorated with stunning flowers and art. Teresa delivered on our vision and included several sentimental pieces throughout the space. Samantha was so helpful from the beginning of wedding planning through the last moment of the reception and everything in between! Chef Paul and his team helped us craft a special menu for our guests and absolutely knocked it out of the park. Our guests still rave about the delicious food they had that night. We could not have asked for more- it was perfect! A sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to the kind and hospitable Spoon River team for everything they did to make our wedding day so special!

Yelp
Back Again -- and Still Blown Away! Stopped in last night with five other guys as we made our way up "the ditch" to Falmouth, MA -- and once again, Spoon River delivered the unexpected magic that only Theresa and her team can provide in this hidden gem of a town. From the second we walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming. Theresa greeted us like long-lost friends (with a hug on the way out too -- who does that anymore??), and our server Sam was spot-on: attentive, relaxed, and knew the menu like a pro. Now, the food. Oh man, the food. Fried Green Tomatoes: Showstopper. Perfectly crisp, full of flavor, and just the right tangy punch to kick things off. Main courses -- each one got rave reviews from our crew: * Pork Chop (2 of us): Juicy, thick, and packed with flavor. Honestly, I had ribeye envy once I tasted it! * Seared Ahi (2 of us): Beautifully done, fresh and flavorful with a gentle sear. * Filet: Cooked perfectly. Nothing else to say -- it just melted. * Ribeye (mine): Medium rare, spot-on, but yeah, I'll admit it... I'd order the pork chop next time We pulled two great bottles of wine from their Wine Room (so reasonable!) and ended with some bonus sips -- Blanton's bourbon, which took the evening to the next level. And the desserts? - Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream: Rich, gooey, just what we wanted. - Cinnamon-Forward Carrot Cake: Moist, spicy-sweet, and totally worth saving room for. The whole experience felt like something you'd find in a big city -- only here, it's surrounded by local art, genuine hospitality, and a true sense of care. Final word? If you're anywhere near Belhaven, detour here. If you're coming up the ICW, make this your stop. And if you're lucky enough to chat with Theresa -- tell her we said hi, and we'll be back. Because we will. Thank you, Spoon River -- for once again reminding us how special a meal can be. #FoodieFind #HiddenGemEats #SouthernCuisine #FarmToTable #SmallTownBigFlavors #ChefOwned #LocallySourced #FoodThatWows #ICWAdventures #CruisingTheDitch #GreatLoopLife #BoatLife #MarinaEats #DockAndDine #BelhavenNC #VisitBelhaven #NCFoodie #HighlyRecommend #MustTry

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch this morning and was so glad I did. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff are all very attentive and friendly. I had the shrimp and grits and I've gotta say they were the best I've ever had. It's the first time I've ever seen butternut squash and collards in this dish but man it elevated it to a whole new level. I will definitely be coming back!

TJ and J.

Yelp
Great place. It will make your day, service staff and owner Theresa will guarantee it. Can't wait to stop again on our next tie up in Belhaven!

Yelp
What a marvelous restaurant! wait staff and owner couldn't have been nicer. I rarely give 5-star ratings because I feel even the best places should always strive for excellence but this place has reached that. I was with 2 girlfriends and 2 of us had the beef tips and the other had the tuna. The Asian glazed beef tips were big and tender and absolutely delicious, along with the Parmesan mashed potatoes and stir fried vegetables were enough for 2 meals. The vegetables were home grown by the owners husband. I'm sure the seared tuna was just as good but my girlfriend refused to share and didn't need a to go box either. Afterward, we were treated to scrumptious dessert of both fresh peach and blueberry bread pudding. Both fruits grown locally. The young waitress Lynn was attentive, pleasant, and wonderful to talk to. We even got to meet the chef. Cannot recommend this place enough if you're in the area.

Joan J.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant! The food is awesome, service is impeccable, ambiance is incredible (like none other)!! The owners are friendly, lovely and classy! We love this restaurant!!!

Yelp
Amazing home cooked farm to table meals! Would highly recommend!! Jenny, our waitress, was so sweet and was very attentive. Don't miss stopping in for a meal if you come into Belhaven....you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Came here for Sunday brunch and was very pleased. The service was outstanding from refilling coffee to periodically checking in. The interior was very eclectic with a modern flair. The portions were good size. Food quality was outstanding. Will definitely return.

George K.

Yelp
Wonderful food, decor and management! A treasure to be savored! Truly a gourmet experience...

Carol L.

Yelp
Spoon River Restaurant is fantastic. The food, atmosphere and service was over and above board. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants superb dining. The owner is warm and inviting. I will return.

Yelp
Fabulous food, service and ambience! Fabulous chef and lots of great wines and beer options! What a gem in Bellhaven! Wow!
google avatar

Tammy F.

Yelp
Food was good. They had some really excellent salads and sides. Stay clear of the chicken. Several of our group got chicken added to their entree and it was dry. The chicken entree was a little tough, not tender. Steak was excellent. Desserts were amazing. Risottos were awesome. Collards were yummy. Caesar salad and winter salads were excellent.

Yelp
We have eaten here since it opened. Never had a bad meal! We've had celebration dinners over the years. So often we run into friends who drove here for dinner! It fills up so make reservations. If you love peonies, you will love Spoon River, as they have fresh peonies every night! The owner and staff are knowledgeable and so friendly. If you haven't been, go!

Jacob L.

Yelp
I have no words the staff was so nice and the burger I ordered is the best I've ever had this deserves 10 stars

Kathy W.

Yelp
We have never had a bad meal at this restaurant but just so you know this restaurant is not fast food. This food is made to order. Just go and relax and enjoy your meal. Go to spend over an hour for your meal. It's worth the wait It has been a big plus for Belhaven and help put it on the map. Belhaven is on the map for good restaurants. Go and enjoy

Yelp
Everything was 5 stars - ambiance, food and service! Must try the ice cream sundae for dessert!

Yelp
Always great. Local favorite. Seafood is better than steaks. Get a reservation during boating season

Yelp
Excellent! From the service to food and wine:) As a work traveller, I was upmost pleased:) Thanks

Brett G.

Yelp
Excellent! From the moment we were greeted at the door by the owner, complimentary mocktails for my pregnant wife, to the delicious dessert and coffee... Everything. Food tasted so fresh and tasty, timing of each course was perfect, staff was friendly and helpful, serving sizes were large, with more than reasonable prices. - Soft shell crab was tasty and plated beautifully - Fettuccine pasta with beef tenderloin. Fresh, light, perfect noodles. Generous tenderloin portion. - Pork chop was honestly the best we've had. Beyond tender, thick cut and juicy. The sauce was on point and just enough to compliment the meat flavor. - Caramel bar was ridiculous. Not too sweet with a hint of savory, topped with ice cream and whipped cream yum! - Coffee was fresh and tasty!

Yelp
2nd time here. Awesome vibe. The owners have transformed bellhaven. Great drinks and excellent wine collection. All the food was fresh and local. Would highly recommend.

Malcolm L.

Yelp
Had a great lunch at this unique and enjoyable restaurant. Great low volume indie background music. Delicious painkiller and chicken salad croissant sandwich. Can't wait to go back and try other items which all looked good on other customer's plates!

Yelp
Growing up in a tourist town (Annapolis, MD) and going out to eat a lot in culinary towns like Nags Head, NC and Charleston, SC, I've been to a lot of really good restaurants. Eating at Spoon River on Mother's Day may have been the best experience yet. The service was top notch and the food far exceeded expectations (and we expected it to be good). Thank you for making my wife's Mother's Day a great one. We'll be back soon!

Cathy H.

Yelp
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Belhaven. Art deco interior with antique items in a1902 building. Our waitress Jenny was friendly and her attention to our requests was outstanding. A wine room with wide selection to choose from and they recommend wine pairing with your entree. Our meals had beautiful presentation and they were outstanding in taste. Highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Lori D.

Yelp
Simply wonderful... brunch was delicious..mimosa was yummy.. service was impeccable... eclectic atmosphere!

Sue C.

Yelp
We arrived on a boat from Charleston, SC. The BELHAVEN marina suggested this cute place. We had the most delightful evening. The people are so friendly, the food was so flavorful and the atmosphere is so beautiful/creative. You taste everything. We're from Charleston, but I would put Spoon River above most everything in Charleston. The flavors, the meal and choices are amazing. Thank you for a nice, memorable date night with my husband. we will stop again on our way south!
google avatar

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner, seated at the window table. The yellowfin tuna on rice with broccoli I and a mango puree. Another person had chicken cordon Bleu, on a bed of pasta? cooked risotto style that was delicious. You can go to the wine coolers and pick out a craft beer if you please. We also had London broil costini appetizer (excellent), and rum bread pudding dessert. The owner also gave us a peach bread pudding that was equally tasty. It is advertised as "farm to fork".

Yelp
I really cannot effervesce enough about this place! I have been many many times, and I've never had a less than enjoyable experience. I have been for all meals. This restaurant brings an A game every time. The decor looks to be upcycled from antiques and it's absolutely gorgeous. The beverages are generous. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. This is an Eastern North Carolina gem...a MUST VISIT when anywhere near Belhaven.

Yelp
Great food and fantastic service. Sophia and Theresa truly improved our day. We look forward to visiting again. Highest regards.

Yelp
Other possible names for this place: Wasted Food (so much extraneous garnish) No White Space (the plates are covered tip to tip) Food Challenge (way too much food) Feather and a Bucket (you need one because they serve too much food!) We were appalled by the amount of unnecessary food they add to plates! Seriously, it's repulsive when you think about how much food is wasted at this place per day. We both feel disgusting after eating here, and we didn't even get entrees. They pile so many ingredients on dishes, that it just becomes a blur to your taste buds. See my photos for more information. The wine flight is clever though. I've never seen that offered and it's a great value. You get at least 6 glasses from this, plus an appetizer with all the extras they put on there.

Yelp
This is simply the best restaurant in Beaufort County and one of the best in all of ENC. It's worth the drive from Greenville. Food is creative and the service is outstanding. We were there for my wife's birthday at her request. The specials are always great.

Ronda S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were given the recommendation to order the specials. We were not disappointed! We ordered the fried okra appetizer and it was amazing! My husband had the soft shell crab and I had the sautéed scallops over polenta. We have never been here but we plan to come back! I recommend making a reservation. It's unique but beautiful! It filled up very quickly.

Yelp
Despite waitstaff shortages and supply chain difficulties, Spoon never disappoints. In a world where my expectations are a daily disappointment, I'm figuring out where to go to be revitalized. Amazing staff, amazing food and drinks. What more do you need. The place is gorgeous too. I went to the bathroom, returning to tell all in my party "you got 2 see the bathroom." I really love this place. I've never been for dinner, just brunch but it's on my list. Mahi tacos, amazing. Brunch burger, oh my. The fish and chips aren't brunch, they're a seafood platter everywhere else. Don't be scared, order something you never would anywhere else. Thanks Spoon!!

Yelp
We had a lovely brunch on a lovely Sunday afternoon at this charming spot! My husband had the omelet of the day, andouille sausage and cheddar, accompanied by double cooked fries (excellent!). I had the (very strong!!) Bloody Mary with the 'works' -- my favorite thing on the loaded plate was a peach compote with homemade cinnamon tortilla chips. The plate of odds and ends was a little heavy in the crackers and cheese, but that said, everything was delicious. Our only small quibble was with the service -- our waitress was sweet, but the coffee refills were awfully slow, and my plate came out a good five minutes after my husband's. All that said, it was definitely worth the drive!!!

MaryHelen H.

Yelp
We planned our day trip from Virginia around the hours the restaurant would be open - and the experience was amazing! Even though they were really busy, the service was on point. We were greeted immediately and a couple of folks checked on us once seated. The food and drinks were outstanding. Everyone was friendly, and this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in awhile.

Yelp
This is our third visit with many month interval. We loved the first visit 3 years ago. raved. Maybe a bit less second visit. This time, a Saturday night, it was a problem. My wife Had the crab cake app, I had the pork egg rolls. Service is very attentive and enthusiastic. That made it hard for me to return the egg rolls. They were crispy dough on the outer layer but the inner dough was gummy and undercooked. Replaced with the meatball app. Meat was very dry and not very flavorful. They took both off the bill. Split entree was black drum pinwheel. Very little fish. The outer section of pinwheel was a very dry piece of fish. The rest was a veg mixture cooked almost to mush. Strong sauce not bad but the whole dish argh. Too bad, we stopped here on purpose in out boat traveling south. I may not decide to stop again. So sorry. For those objecting to all the garnish, their greens are spectacular, so fresh you can eat they without dressing.

Yelp
Always feel like family when we eat there. The food is amazing always, never have we left dissatisfied not once. We go as often as possible

Yelp
We had a fabulous dinner back in July 2016. There was a mishap in the kitchen and some original dinners were not up to the normal quality. The owner more than made right by us and we wound up thoroughly enjoying our dinning experience. We all highly recommend this unique, fabulous restaurant.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Amazing! If you are in the area do yourself a favor! We arrived just before closing and the hostess graciously seated us, although we weren't exactly prepared and were underdressed, having been on our boat exploring all day. My husband ordered a steak, I ordered the summer salad w shrimp . Both of our entrees were AMAZING. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife & I had a wonderful anniversary dinner, followed by an amazing brunch the next morning. Spoon River is a treasured gem in this quaint riverside town. The service was extremely courteous and responsive. For a restaurant of this caliber, the food came out extremely quick. We had the blackened tuna special and the black drum. Both were delicious, and nicely complemented by a wonderfully done veggie medley. Must say the tuna was off the charts! For brunch, it was just as positive of an experience. The eggs benedict and pancake with raspberry compote were amazing. The Bloody Mary plate (forget what they really called it) was quite a sight and an entire meal. This place makes Belhaven all the more worth visiting.
google avatar

Richardo T.

Yelp
Such a great restaurant especially for the little town it is in of Belhaven NC. You usually dont find this much energy put into a dining establishment in a smaller town. This place could easily hold its own in any large city. We only had appetizers which were the baked oysters with jam and bacon and the red wine flight with cheese. Both were good . However the wait staff was so so lovely. They made the place along with the beautiful decor. Give it a try and then drive around the town. Beautiful place

Victoria S.

Yelp
Delisioso!!! This restaurant is pleasantly decorated, staff was super friendly, food was quite distinguished ! Their deserts were to die for!

Yelp
We arrived at our port of Belhaven with few expectations. We were six days out on the Intracoastal and were a floating, self-contained house stocked full of provisions which lacked for nothing from our land mates. But the Marina chap Gregg insisted we walk 400 yards from the Belhaven Marina to experience once-in-a-lifetime-dining at Spoon River Artworks and Market. We set our reservation for Sunday brunch and eagerly anticipated our meal. We even showered - and for long haul boaters this is saying something. It was how Gregg described the food that made us think we were in for something special. Spoon River did not disappoint. Immediate service, delicious Bloody Mary's with an appropriate heavy hand inside the cajun-spiced rimmed glass and a list of chef specials that made our mouths water. We went for the local delicacies of Black Drum fish tacos and the Fried Egg BLT with green tomatoes. Everything about the food was superb - so much so that we wondered how a little Southern town might attract such chef talent. This food was comparable to what you'd expect in a big city where executive chefs fight for their reputations. I must mention the physical space because that is the extra in the "Extra-Special". Teresa, the owner, is a set designer from years in the theatre trades and it shows. Her environment is eclectic, artsy, fun and whimsical, but so tasteful and creative. A new find in every corner. Popsicle sticks and clothespins on the mirror frames near the bathrooms or the painted bas relief on the walls. The folded books suspended from the ceilings or the perfect touch of Chinese lanterns in creme and white gold. The perfect suspension of lighting made for soft lighting the do not obscure the gorgeous stamped tin roof. And the wine cellar next door offered up curated choices off the standard North American wine lists to include new and interesting grapes form South America and beyond. It took us six days to arrive by boat but a return trip is scheduled. I usually lower my expectations for restaurant food bc my skipper is a home chef, but this visit to a port city restaurant did NOT disappoint.

Yelp
Can you say "SALT"??? We came based on the wonderful reviews I can not remember a meal out where I thought of Morton's Salt... never in my life! The staff was great, the place busy. I am amazed by what we were served. The crab cake appetizer was delicious! Points earned... My ribeye was so salty that I could not eat half of it. My wife had the chicken and it too was salt city. You win some and you loose some...

Yelp
What a great find on our first visit to Belhaven. A very unique and eclectic establishment. Everyone was very nice and attentive. They were quite busy and had menu items for everyone's tastes! I had the mahi fish tacos that were excellent and really liked the island rice. My husband had the fish and chips. Generous portion sizes. I also had the tiramisu which was divine! Looking forward to our next trip ! Enjoyed meeting Theresa the owner she was very welcoming!

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere . Enjoyable dining experience! Server was on point and didn't miss a beat

Yelp
This place had such a great wonderful atmosphere! We walked in and the owners greeted you it was lovely to see how much they were apart of their restaurant. We were told there is a new chef and boy oh boy the food was out of this world. I first ordered a Bloody Mary it was spicy and great. We went on a Thursday so they didn't have there over the top bloody Mary's which I was definitely excited and wanting but I definitely understand why they only make them on the weekends. This restaurant is a must to try! The buratta kale salad is out of this world! It was seasoned so well actually perfect didn't need to add anything to it at all. I actually don't like mushrooms but ate and enjoyed every bit of the chicken Marsala! I love when I go into restaurants and don't need to season my plate of food. The chef is killing it! I told our server which was a delight please tell the chef he made it a memorable dining experience. I will never forget how much I loved the food, atmosphere and service! I told my sister who I was with I will definitely be making the sage garlic risotto for the holidays. Five star review!

Yelp
Some friends and I went here for brunch to celebrate an upcoming birthday. Our main reason for choosing this place was their fancy Bloody Mary. The birthday girl ordered one and was about to order an entree, but I warned her that she probably wouldn't need one. She didn't. The side items that come with the Bloody Mary vary daily, but on this day it came with shrimp, cheese, crackers, deviled eggs, crab fritters, bacon, olives, and pickled okra. Others of us ordered fish and chips (made with mahi mahi, which I thought was a weird choice for fish and chips), and Eggs Benedict. The potatoes were a bit soggy, but otherwise the fish and chips were good. We ended up sharing the banana pudding cheesecake (tasted like regular cheesecake but with vanilla wafers as the crust) and the Neimann Marcus brownie. The brownie was amazing and I'd go back just for that dessert.

Yelp
What a find. We were on our way south by boat along the Intracoastal Waterway when we spent one night in Belhaven. The owner of the marina we stayed at so highly recommended this restaurant that we HAD to try it. When's hurricane threatened our southward journey we doubled back and ate there twice in 3 days! On both occasions we were absolutely wowed. We ordered cocktails that included "muddled basil", then a special appetizer (crostini with ahi and all sorts of flavorful sauces/dips). Each entree comes with a generous side salad. The entrees were each incredible too--Bluefin tuna, Eggplant Parmigiana, Wahoo and Red Drum with a crab sauce. The wine flights are laughably large, or you can choose a bottle of wine from the "market"--such a better arrangement than an ordinary wine list--pick it off the shelf, and if you love it and want another bottle to take home, they'll discount it by 40%! Dessert is a gigantic pile of goodness (large enough for multiple people). The staff is professional, friendly and attentive. I just wish we lived closer--we'd be regulars here!

Yelp
We are traveling by boat .We stop in Bellhaven just to go to Spoon River . The food and setting are fabulous.

Yelp
1982 Frédy Girardet (born 17 November 1936) is a Swiss chef who cooks in the French tradition. Often considered one of the greatest chefs of the 20th Century, his self-named restaurant in Crissier, Switzerland (near Lausanne, Switzerland) earned three Michelin stars and before Girardet's retirement in 1996 was often called the greatest restaurant in the world. Biography CuisineEdit Girardet is known primarily for his nouvelle cuisine style. He avoids using flour in his sauces, thickening them instead with simmered meat stocks.[2] By more modern standards he is considered a traditionalist. He is a critic of molecular cuisine, in particular its use of non-natural ingredients.[3][4] In 1984 he published The Cuisine of Fredy Girardet (edited by food writer Narcisse Chamberlain), in French with English translation.[5] RestaurantEdit Girardet's restaurant in Crissier opened in 1971. Unlike many acclaimed chefs from the era, Girardet personally spent most of his time in the kitchen supervising the cuisine, rarely traveled,[2] and avoided consultancies and endorsements.[1] The restaurant was called by some the greatest restaurant in the world,[2]and for his work there, Girardet was often called the world's greatest chef.[6] Girardet sold his restaurant in 1996, at age 60, to Philippe Rochat, who had worked under Girardet since 1980, and Rochat's wife Franziska Rochat-Moser. He then retired to the town of Féchy.[1] Girardet grew bored after retiring, and had some friction with Rochat, who quickly regained the restaurant's three-star rating.[1] Food writer Colman Andrews speculated that Girardet quit during the prime of his career after observing other chefs he knew, including his father, who were unable to sell when they wanted, and who eventually died early from the stress of running a restaurant.[1] Among Girardet's other understudies is Léa Linster.[7]
