"A family restaurant run with pride and enthusiasm, Il Cantinone delights guests with its array of local gastronomic delicacies sourced from the surrounding mountains and nearby lake, including ingredients such as buckwheat, trout, whitefish and eel, along with polenta, mushrooms and game. The menu also occasionally features more exotic influences acquired by chef Stefano Masanti during his time spent travelling the world before he returned to his beloved mountains." - Michelin Inspector

We spent a week at this lovely hotel. The hospitality of the owners and staff is exceptional. Has the feel of a bed and breakfast, but the privacy of a hotel. The meals are unbelievably delicious. All dishes are unique and very tasty, utilizing supplies from local farmers. By far, they are the best dishes we have enjoyed. Has an exceptional wine list and the service is impeccable; all at a very reasonable price. The slopes are in walking distance as well as some nice walking trails. Highly recommended. We will be returning!

We spent a week here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Warm and genuine welcome from Valentina on arrival. Room large and clean with everything we needed. Some research on the resort showed that most of the hotels only offered very small rooms so space was a great advantage. We travelled as a couple but we could easily have accommodated our son in the same room on the sofa bed without compromising the space available. The owners, Rafaella and Stephano, are obviously passionate about their product and nothing was too much trouble. The Michelin starred restaurant consistently impressed with a depth of flavour in almost every dish that surprised and delighted us as the week went on. We had a really wonderful time and are already making plans to return. Resort is small and not at all crowded and nursery slope was just a 5 min stroll from the hotel. Breakfast was amazing! Free Wifi, Sky tv.

We had such a wonderful time at this very special hotel and restaurant just before Easter that we re-booked to spend Christmas here with our son. Once again, our hosts made us feel really welcome and we came home feeling pampered and rested (despite a week's skiing!). Our son is not a very adventurous eater, but once he had tasted a couple of Stefano's dishes, there was no stopping him! Eating as a family is now so much easier. Our stay was first class in every respect - smiling and helpful staff, comfortable room with fridge, fast wi-fi, amazing food and drinks and all within a couple of minutes of the slopes. Stay here and I guarantee you will want to return!

The hotel is nice, clean and cozy. It is close to the ski slopes however all hotels in Madesimo are close to the ski slopes. The family rooms are big enough and well cared for, clean, the bathroom is big, the beds comfortable however the furniture is quite average and simple for a 4 star hotel. The restaurant is cozy however really overpriced. The fact that its gourmet menu has 1 Michelin star certainly does not help however the experience does not match the value. More than anything, we were a bit disappointed that while the hotel is presented as a family hotel there is not much space for nor much patience with little children who do not yet ski. My husband stayed in the hotel bar with the little one while I was skiing with the oldest and he received a somewhat cold reception, the staff seemed clearly annoyed and they could not wait to get us out.

What can I say about this hotel apart from it is perfect. Great location for the nursery slope, large comfortable rooms with warm and hospitable hosts but above all amazing food in the Mitchelin Restaurant with treats and delights morning and evening. You could not ask for anything more. Nothing is too much trouble for Stefano or Raffaella and all of your needs are catered for. It really doesn't feel like a hotel but being part of an Italian family. A huge thank you to Stefano and Raffaella and all of their team for making our skiing holiday truly memorable, enjoyable and relaxing. We are so looking forward to seeing you next February.

Have stayed here 3 years on the run for a long weekend's skiing and will be making it 4 in 2017. The rooms are basic but clean which is all you require when skiing all day. Hotel staff have always been very helpful and friendly. It is a small, quiet hotel. The hotel restaurant is great offering fine dining and a tasting menu. The breakfast spread is quality and varied and hits the spot ahead of a day's skiing. Just a short walk from the ski lift. Also has an OK sauna / steam room / jacuzzi.

The hotel is clean and close to the ski slopes but for a 4 star hotel a bit poor. The spa is nice!! The atmosphere is friendly with a good service. The Michelin star restaurant is cosy and the wine list is oké! But..... the food is very overpriced. Although there are good courses, in general there is a lack of taste and some courses even have a very bad taste (for example the steamed squid with polenta arrrggggg, the potatoesoup and the starter with ricotta (no taste at all). Some courses are too simple with poor ingredients.||Fot this level not good enough and far overpriced.

We have just returned from a week at the Sport Alpina. This is one of the nicest hotels in which I have stayed. The owner and staff could not have been more attentive or friendly and it was a joy to come back to the hotel each evening after skiing. A particular highlight is the food where the renowned chef and his team consistently produced meals of the highest standard with both flair and imagination. We had our 4 year old and 2 year old with us and the staff could not have been more understanding or accommodating of their many needs. If you are looking for the personal touch and want to experience a real taste of Lombardy rather than the generic mountain offering I cannot recommend tha Alpina more highly.
