Chef Barbara Lynch Sued by the City for Nearly $1.7M in Unpaid Taxes | Eater Boston

"This location is listed in the city's suit as owing $124,995.21 in unpaid personal property taxes; the complaint says final notices were sent on January 11, 2024 shortly after the chef announced this restaurant (and two others) were closing, and that some taxes across the group hadn't been paid for more than a decade except for "one payment to each property in August 2021," contributing to a total claim of $1,676,708.69. The city has also asked for a temporary restraining order to prevent the funds from being left unpaid in the event of a sale. COO Lorraine Tomlinson-Hall said the group "was not aware of any taxes owed until the news was covered in the press this week," pointing out that when the liquor license for the South End property was sold the group received a "Certificate of Good Standing." She said, "This obviously could not have happened if taxes were owed," and added, "None of the distinct LLCs have ever owned the properties in which the restaurants have operated from, so this cannot be a real estate tax," concluding, "This leads us to believe this is an error and we are greatly disappointed that we were not contacted directly or via the company CPA or legal counsel. This has caused unnecessary embarrassment to Barbara Lynch and her family but we look forward to reconciling this matter with the City." The chef also faces a separate suit alleging withheld tips during the pandemic and has been subject to workplace-culture complaints from former employees, which she denies." - Erika Adams

Happened across this place trying to find somewhere open to eat on a Sunday (turns out most places are closed) and it couldn’t have worked out better. Amazing pizza and desserts at very reasonable prices. Most of the pizza in the area is focaccia pizza which is customary to the region (thicker base, crispier, more like focaccia bread with topping) , but I personally prefer Neapolitan pizza , so this was my favourite pizza I’ve had in Turin.

Maybe the best place in Turin to have dinner. The staff is very nice, fast, and helpful. The food is amazingly good, and the atmosphere is like at home :)

Sportello won me over the very first time I went there. Luca is truly one-of-a-kind when it comes to making pizza. Every time I go to the restaurant, I order a new pizza, and I leave feeling impressed every single time. The Emiliana might just be the best pizza I’ve ever had. Additionally, I feel at home with the staff every time that I go to the restaurant. They always go above and beyond, and it just happens that the best tasting pizzeria in Turin is run by the best people. Give this place a try. Order a pizza, and it doesn’t matter which one, you won’t be disappointed.

i have come here with my husband and my mother. we have ordered a bottle of prosecco (20€) because we wanted an aperitivo. the waiter had accepted our order than came back to tell us that we cannot just order an aperitivo and we have to eat here. we were tired so we ordered a pizza (7€) in order to not go and look for another place. the check came back with coperto (1,5€ for a person). my question is: if you charge a coperto - i can order an espresso and sit because i payed a coperto. why do i have to order food if i have ordered a bottle (!) of alcohol? the waiter was lovely, the food was nice, it’s just the “conditions” that bother me. i will not be coming back, but the review is to help others ◡̈
