The Best Bagels in Philly (and Maybe the US): Spread Bagelry – Fresh, Wood-Fired Perfection! If you’re on the hunt for the best bagels in Philadelphia or even the top bagels in the US, look no further than Spread Bagelry! This gem specializes in Montreal-style bagels that are fresh, high-quality, and baked to perfection in a traditional wood-fired oven. Don’t miss the chance to watch the bagels baking over woody fire—it’s a mesmerizing sight that adds that authentic smoky flavor you won’t find elsewhere. Spread Bagelry offers all varieties of bagels, from classic plain and everything to sesame, poppy, and more exotic options like activated charcoal or garlic. The quality-to-price ratio is outstanding, with bagels and sandwiches starting at reasonable prices (around $4-15), making it a great value for such premium, handcrafted eats. They have two standout special sauces to elevate your bagel experience: one with serious spices (be careful—it’s intensely hot and packs a punch!), and a ketchup infused with black pepper that’s tasty but might overpower the delicious, subtle taste of the bagels themselves. For the best bites, I highly recommend the Nova Scrambly (a scrumptious scramble with smoked Nova salmon cream cheese, eggs, tomatoes, and onions) and the Philly Steak (a hearty cheesesteak bagel loaded with flavor, Philly-style). Whether you’re a local or visiting, Spread Bagelry delivers an unbeatable bagel experience in Philly. Fresh ingredients, expert baking, and that wood-fired magic make it my top pick—hands down the best in town and quite possibly the country! #BestBagelsInPhilly #SpreadBagelry #WoodFiredBagels #PhiladelphiaBagels #TopBagelsUS #MontrealStyleBagels #NovaScramble #PhillyCheesesteakBagel #FreshBagels #BagelRestaurantPhilly

Google
Not my first time at Spread Bagelry and just to set the stage, we always get our bagels toasted. Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese: This was our favorite. Simple, fresh, and hit the spot. Turkey bacon, egg & cheese: It was alright. Nothing too exciting, but honestly, it’s hard to mess up a bagel. Onion bagel with egg & cheese: This one came in second place—solid flavors and nicely balanced. The coffee (La Colombe) was fresh and bold, just how I like it. Overall, is it the best bagel in town? Probably not. But definitely a solid, reliable spot. it’s a bit on the pricier side. Three bagels and two coffees ran me about $41.

Google
Absolute worst service of any bagel shop I’ve been in, whoever’s managing this place seriously needs to be reconsidered, the incompetence is horrific we ended up having to cancel because two bagels took over an hour it’s ridiculous, I have never had a good experience with this place, the only time I order from there is if there’s literally no other option. I never write reviews but my God someone has to say it, save yourself the time, energy and money. Seriously. And fire whoever’s managing the place, they’re costing you.

Google
This place has great bagels and the ratio of cream cheese to other toppings is amazing! The atmosphere is cute and a great place to set up with a laptop to do some work. The MAJOR drawback is the price. One bagel with cream cheese, lox and tomato cost $16. It’s a good bagel but with that much money I could get all the ingredients for a small brunch.

Heather M.

Google
This is a really neat bagel shop! The atmosphere is relaxing, love the plant decor and was surprised to see them cooking the bagels in a wood fired oven. They had a large variety of bagels and the everything bagels are absolutely covered in flavor, you can get them in wheat as well as regular. They had some flavored spreads. I was there to grab a quick bagel and coffee but would like to visit again to check out their other options.

Google
Been here a bunch of times. Didn’t know what a Montreal style wood oven bagel was, but they are pretty delicious. Come out of that pizza oven looking thing hot and fresh, and they offer some really good fillers. Nice buzz on weekends around brunch and into the early afternoon. Enjoy!

Google
I got a toasted sesame bagel with jalapeño CC and bacon. I was very disappointed in the whole bagel. The bagel was small, not fluffy as I remember them and a very underwhelming amount of CC. I feel as though i received an old bagel leftover from yesterday and not a freshly made one. Definitely not worth the $9 price tag (with the added bacon cost). Don't think I will be coming back again. It's a shame because I always LOVED this place.

Google
Today was their soft open and it was good to see 15-20 people in the store. Upon walking in, the atmosphere is very sophisticated. Bagel display is very clean and easy to read. I'm a big bagel fan and Spread makes very delicious bagels. They cook them in a live wood fire oven that gives them a unique taste. I had The Cure on an everything bagel and it was packed with flavor. Highly recommend and wish the store much success going forward.

Yelp
Bagels good and generous cream cheese they spread. Mocha coffee was awesome. The staff was nice and works had.

Yelp
I stopped here to pick up some bagels. Parking here is challenging compared to other locations but there is a small parking lot behind the restaurant next door. While I waited for the order, I ducked into the restroom. This location is clearly shop worn - iffy lock worn off paint etc. Service was pleasant and quick.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Sandwiches are usually decent, but not worth waiting over 1 hour for 2 sandwiches as was the case with my online order on Sunday. Staff were helpful enough, but no apologies for the long wait despite me waiting in the shop for 40 minutes. When I did get home with my order, the bagel wasn't even toasted as ordered, and the shredded chicken was more like a chicken salad consistency with the heavy dressing. After waiting for so long it's pretty disappointing that the order wasn't even done up to their usual standards.

Yelp
Clearly one of the better bagel joints in the area that I know of as in freshness. I do know of another bagel place in the that I have perused, but Spread has been on point with their fresh bagels. Who can resist a fresh hot bagel right out of a wood fired oven? I know I can't, plus that inviting aroma alone will make you go crazy. It will literally have you thinking what do I order? I want that one with this, but wait there is a fresh batch in the oven! Well I guess I can wait for that to come out ! Then you peruse that menu of amazement, and your patience is out the door. Well that's how I try to approach situations like that. It never works out when I try to game plan that perfect combination, but I do make it work. So far every visit has been an enjoyable one , and if you are wondering which one to go with ? My friend my answer is it doesn't matter, you'll leave satisfied.

Yelp
Horrendous service paired with "couldn't care less" attitudes from the employees. I made a GrubHub pickup order at 9am that said it would be ready 9:10-9:20. I head on over to this place at 9:20 and it's pure chaos. There's so many people waiting for their orders that idk where the line starts and ends. So I had to wait in line to ask for my order and they look at me blankly and say they don't have it. Then they look back at one of their monitors to realize they did have the order, they just did not acknowledge it or start making it. Then they tell me, completely unapologetically, that "it'll be 10 mins". 20 minutes later I go back up to them and they act like I'm the nuisance here. Ultimately 2 breakfast sandwiches were somehow 40 minutes late and they seemed to think this was standard operating procedure. Absolute nightmare and the breakfast sandwich was painfully average. They act like making the bagels in a pizza oven is sweet and meanwhile half of them are burnt and dry. NEVER AGAIN

Yelp
I have been a lover of Spread for years! I used to go to their Rittenhouse Square location in Philadelphia all the time in my college years and I was so excited to see they are expanding! This location is huge and trendy, with plenty of seating. It was quiet this afternoon and seemed like a great spot to get work done. I had "The GOAT" sandwich on a plain bagel. It was a goat cheese spread, apples, and honey on any bagel. I absolutely loved it! It was tangy, savory, and sweet. Just a perfect combination of flavors! Their cold brew was great at well. They serve La Colombe. Kimberly provided incredible service and went above and beyond to make our experience amazing!

Yelp
I was appalled by the service. I placed an order an hour before arriving and they acted like they never received the order. Then, they did admit they had it and just decided not to make it. Everyone in there seemed quite frustrated. Staff was rude. Never again.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Trendy shop in the town center. I recommend ordering online and picking up because if not, you'll wait like 25 minutes. The bagel was the perfect texture - soft and was COVERED in everything seasoning. The scallion cream cheese is so flavorful. It is a bit pricey, we paid $15 for two bagels with cream cheese. Even with that being said, I'd still go again!
google avatar

Ellie F.

Yelp
Lines are long but they move fast! Staff is great, bagels are fresh. Favorite is the rosemary olive oil.

Sharon W.

Yelp
Sandwich hot and drink was cold and sweetened well. Delicious! I also feel they have a nice bagel selection and they are always fresh!

Yelp
An interesting take on bagels. If "Montreal style" is code for "terrible," get ready to be transported right to Canada! These are not traditional bagels by any means. You will be disappointed. But what gets me the most is that a bagel shop that makes its own bagels could have the nerve to serve stale bagels. Save the carbs and go elsewhere
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
Bagels are good. Definitely the best in the KOP area. A little less salty than the NY Bagel but a little more dense + chewy with a bit of a crunch. Stays true to the 'Montreal Style' Bagel. The reason I did not give this location a 4-Star rating is simply due to the operations of this location. We ordered (4) bagels and instead of the cashier ringing us up + also grabbing our undressed bagels, she handed off our order to another employee. We waited 15 minutes for what could have been just handed to us in the matter of seconds. Comes to find out our order was lost and we would have waited a ton more time had we not stood up + mentioned something. Management definitely needs to take a closer look at trimming the fat here. There were about 8-10 employees working at once, all whom looked frazzled - except for the team working the flat top + team mate boiling the bagels. The cashier should definitely take responsibility of orders that require no work BEFORE passing off the work to someone else. I would probably return, but only if I placed an order in advance. I don't think I could handle this type of frustration again that early in the morning + especially before I have had something to eat.

Yelp
I was in town for a Nintendo event and wanted a good breakfast sandwich so I stopped in here. It was busy but calm, the staff were friendly and approachable, and the food was top notch. I had the turkey bacon classic sandwich and a coffee and it was amazing. The bacon was cooked perfectly, the egg was light, the cheese perfectly melted and the bagel (I got salted egg among their many choices) was tasty. I cannot wait to stop here each time I'm in the area!!
google avatar

Eleni J.

Yelp
Very hip place! I love the layout, interior decor and overall vibe. Although they have sit down spots, personally I feel it's more a to-go place. As for their bagel, I've only tried the salted egg one. The texture is fantastic but I'm not sure I can taste the salted egg--unless what they mean by "salted egg" is different from my understand; to me, salted egg means Chinese salted egg. Price-wise, each bagel costs $2.25, kinda expensive for sure but if they can nail the bagel texture all the time, I'm willing to play $2.25 for a bagel on weekends.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Service is fast due to them being fully staffed so that's a plus. I ordered two coffees, a plain bagel with cream cheese, everything bagel with butter, egg and cheese sandwich and a cinnamon raisin which ran me close to $30. My order was prepared accurately, and it's definitely better than the average drive thru bagel you'd receive, but there wasn't really anything spectacular about my breakfast. My plain bagel was toasted but the cream cheese was cold which made my bagel get stiff pretty quickly. What about changing to a whipped cream cheese to really enjoy the bagel and that wood oven taste? All in all, staff was friendly, fast, and if I'm in town again and need a quick bite to go, I would return, it just wouldn't be my first choice.
google avatar

Lisa Z.

Yelp
I had no idea there was a local bagel place. I ordered the standard bagel sandwich with turkey bacon and the garden veggie sandwich. I liked both but the standard stood out to me, flavorful, not too salty, and balanced. I think the prices are a bit on the pricy side but I think it's due to the location and aesthetic of the establishment. Food and drinks came out pretty fast and workers are nice. It has modern interior and clean design, perfect place to grab a quick bite!
google avatar

Marissa W.

Yelp
This place is expensive but I like their bagels, and they offer hummus as well for a dairy free option. I like all their chains that I've been too and would return. Staff was very friendly.

Bob B.

Yelp
Occasionally I'll order through Uber Eats. If Spread doesn't have the bagels you ordered, they just throw random bagels in. Just cancel the order you imbeciles. Spread knows you can't get a refund from Uber Eats, so Spread gets paid regardless of how they badly they perform. Scammers and bad business.
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
I came here with my husband after hearing amazing reviews, and it definitely lives up to the hype! I was especially excited about the gluten-free bagels, and they did not disappoint--they were amazing! The texture was perfect, and the flavor was spot on, which can be hard to find with gluten-free options. I couldn't recommend this place enough. However, keep in mind that it is quite expensive for bagels, especially considering you could make something similar at home. That said, if you're looking for a great treat or a solid gluten-free option, it's definitely worth trying at least once!

Yelp
It's a small restaurant but the sandwiches have a BIG taste. The service was friendly and fast. I ordered a standard with jalapeño cream cheese on an everything bagel. It was hot, used real egg and the Colby cheese was so good. They went a little heavy on the cream cheese but overall, one of the best bagel that I've had up North (I'm from Virginia).

Michael B.

Yelp
I ordered tuna salad on an egg bagel. It was life changing. Bagel was good, but the tuna salad was fantastic. I think it had some shrimp or crab in it as well. When I have a bagel brunch, this is my go-to order so I've had them from many many other stores. Ever ordered a common item that was just a level above? I came into the shop in Wayne at noon on a Saturday. The order was up in less than 5 minutes and the server helped me understand how bagels are actually made (kettle & oven) and the meaning of "Montreal style" bagels. The shop really clean, with creative wood tables. Someone was in the corner comfortably fielding a Zoom meeting on her laptop, a table of high school students was gaggling and parents & children were lunching. A really great find.

Yelp
Definitely more of a to-go type of food establishment but there is a small amount of cafe style seating if you want to eat in. Aesthetic lends very much to the "hipster" vibe, but the staff was all welcoming, pleasant, and attentive. I ordered online and the wait time was true to estimated time (about 20 minutes). Hubby gave "The Cure" on an everything bagel a go and really enjoyed it. I had "The Carnegie" on an onion bagel and will definitely be coming back for it again! I am super picky with my breakfast sandwiches so I went into this with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. If you are a pastrami fan, it was sliced thin and almost chopped with provolone and egg. I also had their pure black cold brew (with whole milk) which was super smooth and a great start to the day.

John L.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the last 3 times I ordered here they have badly missed on how long my order will take. Estimates of 10-15 minutes stretch to an hour. So although the food is delicious, I can't tolerate the delays. The last time I was in store, I asked about my order twice and was told they were working on it. When it was ready, nobody called my name and out it on a shelf at the opposite end of the store from me. Sorry, spread, I won't be going back to your KoP location anytime soon.
google avatar

Ramone F.

Yelp
The food was really good. The service is unbelievable. The ambiance is busy. Every time we go it is amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
I was very excited when it was accounted Spread was joining the town center! It is the perfect addition and is simply the best. The wood fired bagels are always crispy and they have a good variety of flavors as well as spreads. You can also customize sandwiches. I decided on something different today and went with the tuna melt on a rosemary olive oil bagel and added cucumbers. WOW!! When I opened the box I couldn't believe my eyes. It was huge with tuna and cheese just pouring out. I attempted to put it into sandwich style but it was just too big so I opted for eating it open face style. The crunch of the bagel with the melted Swiss and tuna was amazing. I was stuffed after one half of the sandwich! Highly recommend if you are a tuna lover. It's made with some carrots mixed in and had a delicious flavor. Not fishy whatsoever. Another spread menu item to try!

Yelp
Great poppy seed bagel with whitefish. Service was decent as well. I love the ambiance of the place, the wooden interior walls and green nature accents

Yelp
Delicious food and the employees are so nice!!!! The club on the rosemary bagel is my favorite.

Vincent C.

Yelp
Arrived in the afternoon so probably didn't get the bagels at their best. Nevertheless can still highly recommend this place. Featured is the Montreal style bagel, which, being a New Yorker at heart, I have never heard of. Bagel is smaller and thinner but denser and chewier. And baked in a brick style oven. Be warned, it will be undersalted compared to the traditional bagel. A little different but I liked it. They were out of garlic (my favorite) and so had the onion and the rosemary, both of which were delicious. Flavors also included salted egg, plain, everything, and blueberry/lemon. No cheese/asiago unfortunately :( I don't eat bagels that much I would not be surprised if this is the best in the area. Had a bagel sandwich too (the chicken BLT, which has slices of Granny Smith apples and a mustard mayo sauce) but it didn't work as well for me. Tasty enough but sauce could be more generous, to counteract the dense, dry bread. Would still try a different bagel sandwich next time, maybe the Reuben. Might also try their coffee offerings, if I come early enough. Service was friendly and courteous all throughout. Inside decor is very nice and place is clean and well kept. Nice place to stop by for a casual sit down meal. Food is more 4 star but I give the place a 5 overall because service was so good and I would love to see this place succeed. Bagel is on the expensive side; expect the discounted price to still be 2$/bagel for a dozen ($24). I didn't really say this, but there is a lot of parking in the Wegman's across the street. Highly recommended.

James H.

Yelp
Don't expect to get your food on time. Ordered online a single sandwich with two lattes at 10:49am. Email came through and said order ready at 11:15am. 40 minutes later at 11:30am they told me it would be 10 more minutes and several orders ahead of me. I was already late for an appointment and told them to just cancel and refund. They nonchalantly said ok. Thanks Spread. We were loyal customers at several locations. Never again. Just not what they used to be.

Levans L.

Yelp
Came here with a group order they put all 12 bagels in the same wrapping & didn't make any of them. Poor experience when I got back to the office. If you have a group order don't bother with this place.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Blueberry lemon bagel with pistachio honey cream cheese. Yum! Also the tangerine juice was great. Glad we found this spot.

Sujan K.

Yelp
Great selection of fresh bagels! I tried the olive oil rosemary one! It tasted great, and they use the freshest of ingredients in their sandwiches. The bagel sandwich was packed to the gills! I'll definitely be back.

Tori C.

Yelp
We went here to try it out this morning since we were already in the area. We ordered a pretty basic order with three bagels and cream cheese ( you would think that this wouldn't take long to make). We normally go to bagelicious in KOP which is more mom and pop shop, so we have a direct comparison. It took over 25 min to get three bagels with cream cheese. The customer service was very poor. No one seemed to care if customers were waiting excessive wait times and the workers seemed rude. No one had the authority to expedite customers waiting in store vs grub hub orders. This situation would never happen at bagelicious considering the owners would be asking every 5 minutes whose order they can expedite to make customers happy. We plan to never come here again.

John R.

Yelp
Excellent new choice for bagels. Baked in front of you in a wood fired oven. Very friendly staff. Bought a few to take home!

Drew K.

Yelp
Not even sure how to rate this because it was such a mixed experience. Definitely read til the end. Americano and bagel were excellent. Service was awww fullll. I order 3 bagels and an Americano to go. Bagels - boom - ready in 30 seconds. Coffee, not so fast. The woman working the machine was moving at a sloth's pace. There were 10 people working: 1 guy making bagels in a pretty cool wood fired oven, 2 guys making sandwiches, 2 people swapping cashier duties, 1 barista. Not sure what the other 4 were doing except moving orders from the cooks to bagging them. After about 10 minutes, I noticed some other guy had been standing there. He's waiting for 2 lattes. I go up to the counter to inquire about my Americano. "it'll be right up". This prompts one of the 4 baggers to help the barista. Another about 5 minutes and I ask the cashier if she could look up the time I ordered since I didn't get a receipt. 9:03. It was now 9:21, 18 minutes since I ordered. I see other coffee orders coming out for people who arrived after me. Now I'm starting to get frustrated. Manager overheard the conversation and asked me what was up. I told her I was frustrated that I've now been waiting almost 20 minutes for my coffee order. Manager tells me she will reimburse me. I tell her I just want my order. She says "I just refunded you". Me: "you did?" Manager (look at screen) "Yes." Me: "I paid cash". Busted. 100% not cool. But as I said, coffee and food were good.

Jim W.

Yelp
It's fine but plan on waiting 15+ minutes for a bagel with cream cheese. I've watched paint dry faster than they work here

Renee L.

Yelp
Bagels were great but the coffee was not! We really wanted to like it here but we couldn't even finish our coffees. Maybe we'll have to try it again some other time

Tori C.

Yelp
I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and got a blt with maple bacon cream cheese. I went straight to my car and took a few bites, after looking at the sandwich I noticed a dead, large fruit fly on my lettuce. I was instantly disgusted and threw it away. I had no plans on coming back but I was in the area and decided to give them another try because I did really enjoy the specialty cream cheese. I told the cashier about my experience and asked if I could get a new bagel. She asked if I had the receipt which I did not. She then turned around to another girl (I'm assuming a manager but who knows because she didn't introduce herself) who came over and asked if I had a receipt, which I said no again. She then just looked at me with no smile or apology and said to the cashier "just comp it I guess". No one said sorry once or apologized for my experience. Needless to say I won't be returning.

Todd L.

Yelp
Bagels are ok and better than Einstein, Bruegger's, but not NY bagels. Very expensive for everything. Staff are nice and helpful but none of the staff working with the food wore hairnets or nets over long beards. I'm sorry but it was really unsanitary and I would think a no brainer for staff to have hair coverings when preparing food.

Allan E.

Yelp
Lovely helpers who make delicious bagels with wonderful spreads. It's a happy place to go and usually nice folks share their table with you. It's worth stopping in.Try it yourself and I think you will agree.

Pooja P.

Yelp
Bagels are really warm fresh and soft! Must visit! I go every weekend to eat! Coffee smells amazing, their sandwiches are bomb!

D L.

Yelp
Worst bagel I've ever had. Took too long and was too expensive for the low quality. Tons of flower on the bottom on bagels. Disgusting

Oliver G.

Yelp
They could charge double and I'd still go! The BEC sammy was SLAMMIN! Great staff on top of that. If you're even remotely close to KOP mall then go here
