"New Mount Pleasant addition Spread Bagelry offers wood-fired Montreal-style bagels, which are thinner than the New York style and with a larger hole. There’s plenty of choices of bagels and spreads, but the stacked sandwiches are the way to go for a really filling meal — the melted pimento cheese with bacon and tomato is a standout star." - Erin Perkins

Best bagels in charleston. They have that soft interior with slightly crisp exterior. Their flavors are great and are always willing to give you the hot one out of the oven. Everything is cooked fresh right in front of you as you wait basically. Coffee was average with not very bold flavors. Great vibe overall and decent parking! Handful of tables outside as well.

When Spread opened, I really enjoyed it. Quality was there, portions were solid. About a year into being in Mt. P, they no longer have any quality control nor do they care about their product. If they’re any bit busy, you’ll see a lot of people asking for a remake. Don’t get me wrong, it still tastes ok, but after you make the bagel, you’re just putting ingredients on. The time before last, they didn’t put any cream cheese on my bagel. Then this time, very little and the bagel was somewhat hard/dry. The bagels were softer and bigger when they initially opened. The sandwich attached was $17 with tax and without tip. I understand lox are expensive, but this took only a few bites to put down. Regarding the picture with my hand for reference, I’m 5’7” so my hands are not huge. For $17, i’d like a proper sandwich. The kids in there are trying hard and are sweet, but they could probably use some direction from an older, or at least someone with more experience. I feel stupid writing a review this length, or a review at all about bagels, but after last time and now this, it has become insulting. I won’t be back and I would recommend that people try Ruby’s on Coleman Blvd.

Came here as a suggestion from a friend. I’m by no means a bagel snob, but wanted to try a Montreal style bagel. Went there on Thursday morning at 9am, and got a bacon, egg, cheese on everything bagel and a plain bagel with honey pistachio. The BEC was delightful: flavorful, salty, and tons of egg and bacon! It was gone too fast … The plain bagel was somewhat of a disappointment: it was tough, and difficult to chew. The cream cheese was amazing! But I couldn’t finish the bagel - it was too dry even with a fair schmear of cream cheese. I wanted it to work- but it wasn’t for me. The service was top notch! The coffee had run out so the employee made me a brand new batch. Very courteous and patient. I would go back just for the service. Overall I would say I would try again but maybe not my favorite.

Had a weekend getaway to Charleston recently and loved getting bagel sandwiches at Spread! The food was excellent and the vibes just as good! If you’re a fan of chai tea, try their dirty chai, it was delish!! Definitely worth checking out.

Google
Really great bagel spot. I had never heard of wood fired bagels before and this was yummy. Crispy on the outside and soft in middle… tasty variety of many flavors. They have the wood oven right there in store and also have plenty of delicious coffee drinks available. The staff were friendly and we got our food quickly. We will be back.

I didn’t know I could care so much about a bagel, but then I came to Spread. Order at the counter, perfect spot for a quick breakfast. We even came back a few days later to get bagels to take back home!

Google
The Best of the Best! Literally our FAVORITE place to be and hang out spot, not only because of the great bagels and coffee, but the staff is the kindest, most welcoming bunch I’ve come across since moving here! We love them, they are like our family away from home<3 Extra Special thank yous to the exceptional manager, Miranda, to Kevin, Rachel, Will, Kelsey and the whole crew!

Google
I was blown away with this bagel 🥯 place. The atmosphere is just wonderful. The workers are always helpful and smiling. She was so kind and made wonderful suggestions. I had a cinnamon raisin bagel with egg, cheese, and sausage. The coffee is smooth and delicious. I highly recommend stopping by and enjoying a delightful breakfast.

Yelp
BREAKFAST SANDWICH WAS GASSS!!! If you're in Charleston for the weekend, grab a breakfast sandwich here and head to the beach!! Service was so fast and loved it!

Yelp
I was so excited to finally get to try this place! I walked by it a couple of times before they officially opened and then a couple of other times after their closing hours, kept seeing it all over Instagram, and finally found the perfect time to go! They have a great selection of bagels, I love the unique wood fired concept, and their customer service was very friendly as well. Check out the pictures to see what we got!

Yelp
I had a delightful experience at this phenomenal bagel spot! The ambiance is truly enchanting. The staff goes above and beyond with their warm smiles and exceptional service. Our server, in particular, was incredibly kind and offered recommendations. I indulged in a chocolate chip bagel paired with strawberry basil cream cheese, a salted egg bagel, and a rosemary chive bagel with butter. For those seeking some good bagels, this place is a must-visit. The bagel were toasted in this huge oven which was cool. The has both indoor and outdoor seating, allowing patrons to savor their delicious creations in a comfortable setting. We visited on a serene Saturday morning, just before 8 am, ensuring a tranquil and unhurried experience without the hustle and bustle of rush hour traffic. I highly recommend treating yourself to this gastronomic gem for a delightful start to your day!

Yelp
The location in old Mount Pleasant was excellent food and service. I had the frittata bagel sandwich and it was outstanding on their rosemary and olive oil bagel. Great location and I will be back!

Lori J.

Yelp
Amazing bagels! My friend and I got a dozen and they are still good a few days later! I love the rosemary salt bagel. The bagel oven is so cool to watch and all their bagel flavors are east to see behind the glass. Wish they still did to-go lox

Yelp
The weekend line was long as this bakery claiming to bring the taste of Montreal down to Charleston. Line management was not particularly good and I waited a while so people could order slowly one by one at a register while a bunch of other employees didn't do a whole lot. It was interesting to watch them making the bagels; with the wood oven right there you can't much question where your bagel came from. I took a half dozen to go. The resultant bagel was a little thicker in texture and slightly sweeter than most bagels. The honey used in making may be a concern for some; though I have a mild allergy and these bagels didn't bother me. Ordering a bagel with flavorings is wise; their poppy seed bagel has an enormous amount of seeds, the rosemary olive oil is quite rich, and the whole wheat bagels are just sweetened enough to be tasty. Some options for a fresh sandwich were available, but not in my plan for the day. It was certainly an interesting enough experience to come back.

Yelp
Bagel fans unite! Finally found a bagel shop that has amazing texture, great breakfast and lunch sandwiches, with amazing coffee, and is seriously so cute inside. Spread Bagelry in Mount Pleasant is totally worth a visit. Their wood-fired (Yes! I said wood-fired) bagels are not only delicious but also a fun treat for the whole family. The staff is really friendly and will answer your thousands of questions.... They offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options, as well as coffee to start your day off right. I tried the Espresso with Banana and Brown Sugar Cream coffee and Tahini and Oat Milk Latte, which doesn't sound great but believe me it was DEVINE! For the bagels, I tried the Whipped Butter with Mango and Serrano Pepper bagel, and a Sesame Seed Bagel with cream cheese and fresh strawberries. So refreshing and didn't feel heavy at all.

Grace P.

Yelp
Run...don't walk!! I came around 11 am and they handed me a bagel straight out of their oven. The rosemary sea salt bagel is absolutely delightful and was so fresh I ate it immediately in my car, couldn't even make it home! They have an amazing coffee selection and a great barista that made a delicious sea salt caramel iced latte I'll definitely be back for. Best latte I've had in Mt pleasant for sure!

Dani P.

Yelp
We hit up the new kid on the block and Mount Pleasant! Spread offers bagels, and bagel breakfast sandwiches! We've heard mixed reviews, but we had personally had a great experience! Only thing I hope they do offer in the future is a gluten-free bagel option! It just opened so we waited in line. It was very busy! We both loved our sandwiches and our options. They had a menu choice with lots of types of sandwiches! We took ours to go, but there is seating, indoor and outdoor!

Paul Z.

Yelp
Went there 7/1/23,Saturday. It was early parking a pain. Good service. Raised 30 miles from NYC need god bagels. They are probably the best in Mt. Pleasant Got a dozen I ate the everything Good. They season both sides. May have overwhelmed the Lox from Costco. I'll be back

Craig D.

Yelp
How is it that I may have just found one of the best bagel places I've ever been to in Mount Pleasant South Carolina? Not New York. Traditionally boiled with a twist. Wood oven baked or Montreal style. Creates an incredible taste with the traditional slightly chewy inside I would get at H&H when I lived in NYC. Incredible flavor and variety. The service was prompt and friendly. It has a modern vibe in a new building. Don't hesitate... just go.

Angela B.

Yelp
Amazing bagels! Awesome bagel sandwiches. I need more Spread Bagels in my life.... Order online as the line inside the store is nutty. I get why the place is so busy though. If I lived in the area, I would be there EVERY SINGLE DAY. We were only visiting the area for the weekend, so I only got to go twice. Day 1 I ordered the Roast Chicken BLT on a toasted Salted Egg bagel. OMG. The roasted garlic mayo combined with the thick, crispy slices of bacon, juicy chicken all on a wood-fired bagel? Yes, please! Day 2 I ordered the Roast Chicken Cheesesteak on a toasted Salted Egg bagel. The truffled mushrooms were amazing and combined with the grilled red onion??? Sooooo good. I bought an assortment of plain, everything and salted egg bagels to take home. It's rare to find wood-fired bagels, so I had to stock up. I can't wait to go back!

Jennie D.

Yelp
$14 filled me up until dinner! I was desperate for a bagel and had been thinking about where to go all week. I read previous reviews on Yelp about this place and the raves were spot on, at least for me. Ordered The Standard on a rosemary sea salt bagel with eggs, smoked bacon, and subbed smoked cheddar for the Cooper Sharp. I was expecting NOT what I ended up with, and I was pretty impressed, to say the least. Two people could have shared this breakfast sandwich...seriously, it was huge for the $10 price tag. Drip coffee was good despite needing a bit more cream. The only issue I took with the place was the inability to 'fix' my own coffee, but it wasn't a deal-breaker by any means once I tasted that rosemary sea salt bagel. I'm originally from the Tri-state area/NY/NJ/CT where bagels are a thing, so me saying this kicked a** is no joke ;-) Service was quick despite the line I hopped on the end of. I sat outside, so the ambiance was probably not the same as the vibe in the store. Next time, I'll dine in. HIGHLY recommend and can't wait to return again myself.

David K.

Yelp
Good bagels, but please fix your service. We placed a $100 order on Spread's website which said our order would be ready in 20 minutes. Instead it took almost an hour for our food to be ready and when we got home we realized 3 containers of cream cheese were missing. I tried to call the store but got stuck in their phone tree and gave up. You can do better than this.

Michael B.

Yelp
Anything else is not a true bagel.. fantastic bagels, properly boiled then baked in a wood fired oven. Don't second guess it, this is the highest I'm bagel standards in surrounding Charleston.

Anna E.

Yelp
The line was long but worth the wait. Probably one of the only places you can get a coffee and a bagel for $10! Made the bagels in a fire stone oven right in front of you. A little small on the inside but has great outdoor seating. Love that they have several plugs on the walls for laptops!

Erin N.

Yelp
Sunday mornings just got a whole lot tastier! We are on a mission to find the best bagel in Charleston and stumbled upon this hidden gem post Trader Joe's trip. We couldn't resist the temptation of Montreal-style bagels, softer and chewier than their NY counterparts. I loved watching the bagels coming out of the wood-fired oven. We brought home a mixed dozen but my top 3 flavors so far have been the salted egg bagel (reminds me of a soft pretzel!), rosemary sea salt, and everything. The scallion cream cheese is non-negotiable!

Emma C.

Yelp
Some of the best bagels in Charleston! Great customer service and pretty good work spot for Mt. P! Rosemary sea salt bagel and orange blossom cinnamon latte are my go to.

Mary D.

Yelp
STOP the presses!!! I was drawn to the bagel options, two of which are sesame, my all time favorite and my new favorite, Rosemary olive oil. What?! I'm from NYC so I know a bagel when I see one and taste one. Out standing!!! I share the pastrami bagel sandwich and whew, it was good. The only bone was the hot chocolate, with the level of bagels and meat I had the hot chocolate was just...ok. Not that the would stop me from recommending this place. Worth the trip. So yummy!

Stefany B.

Yelp
Super excited to have another bagel place near me. We LOVE Ruby's but the line sometimes is too long ..... now there's another option for us all! Parking is going to be a an issue due to the apartment complex but there is a garage. Didn't check that out. Ok- on to the food! We weren't hungry enough for a sandwich so we opted for bagel and spread! I'm in LOVE WITH the pistachio and honey cream cheese. I had it on a cinnamon raisin bagel. Great texture!!!! My plain son had his plain bagel with plain cream cheese but the BAGEL! It had sort of a shiny exterior surface- that was new but it was DELICIOUS! I also had an iced honey latte with Oat milk. It was perfect!!!!! We will be back!!!!

Virginia S.

Yelp
Y'ALL! If ya don't know you better ask someone. Holy out of the park moly! If your like me and have no clue what a Montreal style bagel is just come and find out. They are wood fired and darn delicious. I got a brisket bagel sandwich on a Toasted everything bagel. There is so much flavor in the brisket, and it's so tender. The bagel itself is full of flavor and loaded with the everything bagel mix. They didn't miss a beat with the everything seasoning. A lot of bagel shops around town are skimpy with the everything bagel bit but not Spread. The young girl that took my order was sweet, happy, welcoming, and very good explaining stuff as this is my 1st visit. The coffee is so hot 10 min into my meal it's still smoking! You will NOT be disappointed with this place. I'm excited to come back and try the pastrami sandwich next. Hands down best bagel shop in town.

Jamie H.

Yelp
Best bagels in town!!!! The Carnegie Ruben Bagel is spot on. Always great service and always quick. Don't sleep on this bagel spot!

Dana Z.

Yelp
I love a well done bagel. Not well done like toasted and overcooked. Well done as in done well. This is a bagel done well. I admit I was surprised since I do have high expectations as someone who will take home bagels on Amtrak from my nyc excursions and I'm used to that style of bagel. I'm told these are 'Montreal' style, which I never heard of but enjoyed.

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Great Bagels, fast service, a ton of options! not a lot of seating but people take bagels to go too! cute vibe in here too

Thomas W.

Yelp
I just tried Spread Bagelry and I loved it! Huge line but it moves quick. I think I waited five minutes in line and about three minutes for my order. There is a nice little counter on the left to stand to wait and pick up your order at the counter. While I waited I watched the bagel baker transfer bagels in and out of the wood fired oven. Very cool! I ordered the standard breakfast bagel, which was fantastic! I ordered mine on an "everything" bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese. I tasted great. The bagel had the perfect combination of poppy, sesame, onion, and garlic flavor. The eggs were perfectly fluffy and seasoned well. The cheese was melty and yummy! I can't wait to try another one! Perhaps I'll try one of their lunch bagels, which sound awesome!

Andrea P.

Yelp
Ordered 12 bagels for delivery but only received 10. It would be great if they counted the bagels before giving the order to the customer or driver.

Charley B.

Yelp
The cream cheeses make all the difference. So good. The bagels are good too. Comfortable spot. Quick spot for take out.

Dani N.

Yelp
Loved spread bagelry. Enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and their fresh brewed ice tea. It was busy when we went, but they were quick and efficient

Jake D.

Yelp
I knew bagels were not the same down south but this was by far the worst bagel I have ever had

Nathan B.

Yelp
Whoa. This place is fire. Nice staff, too. I've never had a bagel sandwich loaded up so hard. Absolutely worth every penny!

Kayson C.

Yelp
I asked for light cream cheese. Which was $1.25 extra. My bagel is literally inedible at how much cream cheese is on this thing.

Celeste H.

Yelp
Rosemary Olive Oil with Honey Pistachio Cream Cheese - AMAZING! Try it, you'll like it

Kaley C.

Yelp
Woke up, had great sex, had an even better bagel. Service was fast we got our bagels within just a few minutes. Line out the door but the Gen Z crew was working like oiled machine, nothing could stop them. There were too many tik tok moms here for me to enjoy the space, but that's not Spread's fault. I'll come back.

Anna T.

Yelp
Delicious bagels! Cute shop! Great outdoor seating! Dog friendly. Walkable to several cute shops and West Marine.

Yann T.

Yelp
I will preface by saying they are new so maybe kinks need to be worked out. Interior is nice and inviting. Customer service was nothing special especially since I was one of the few people in there so they had a chance to talk or explain the business while meeting a future customer. Ordered sone plain bagels, a cinnamon raisin bagel, and a bagel with cream cheese. Plain bagels were covered in some white powder all over the place (flour?). Very chalky and made the taste bitter. Worse it was all over my face, clothes, car, and fingers . Finally was all over the phone. If you could imagine the Dave Chappelle skit that was me. Not something you would want before work. The bagels were a bit stale for 8am in the morning. The staff member even said I should toast it. Isn't that the point of a wood oven to have a warm, crisp bagel? The cinnamon raisin was still warm and a little better. The one with cream cheese was smothered and a huge mess. The wrapper it came in had sone red sauce on it. I know it has been a while since I had a Montreal style bagel but I don't remember them being like this. Tried to reach out to company with no response as I noticed on yelp in their other locations they seem to value their customers. Anyway, hopefully they work things out.

James J.

Yelp
Great selection of bagels, etc. very friendly, accommodating staff. Yummy-lishous! Heading back soon.

Allison R.

Yelp
Got bagels and coffee/chai via Uber eats on a very (very) rainy day downtown and it was so so good. Great bagels and liked the coffee ... all held up well to be delivered. Made us very happy on a rainy day!

D O.

Yelp
I hate cream cheese. I've always exclusively been a bagel + butter girl.... The pistachio & honey cream cheese is so sexy I'm eating it with my mf fingers as we speak. Now imagine this: pistachio & honey cream cheese on the rosemary & olive oil bagel. Trust me.

Amy S.

Yelp
Lovely shop with very nice people. my first time there I was given a few bagels to go, complimentary! Wood-fired bagel was chewy and delicious and smothered in cream cheese.
