Google
Customer service was great. However, the sandwiches were sad. Spent $18.50 for egg on only half the bagel and a comically thin layer of cream cheese. Usually sandwiches are better, but this missed the mark. Brought back for a refund without a problem.

Megan C.

Google
Stopped in for breakfast on Sunday & liked it so much, came back on Monday! Staff were friendly and efficient and the food is excellent. If you like spicy, try the hot sauce! Spoke with two managers who were so nice & down to earth. We will be back the next time we’re in Philly (unless you open up a location in Pittsburgh *hint hint*)

Ingrid H.

Google
I thought because it said wood fired bagels they would be better, but it was very soft and almost cake like texture- not chewy like a proper bagel should be. Veggie cream cheese was orange with tomatoes in it, not like regular veggie cream cheese that usually has chopped scallions and peppers. Not worth nearly 7 dollars for a very simple bagel with cream cheese that wasn’t very good

Google
Great bagel place with an excellent menu. The bagel sandwiches are the perfect cure for an overnight shift or lasting hangover. The classic with lox is amazing, the club is well balanced with some apple, and the brisket is delicious. The service could be better. Definitely check them out for a hearty breakfast!

Google
I’m so mad. I waited 10 minutes for a STALE and untoasted bagel that cost me $15. And when the screen turned for the tip it started at 20%. For what?! A stale bagel. I’m pissed. This is a joke.

Dawn L.

Google
Yummy Bagels! Delicious bagels here! The mister had the Bagel Burger and I ordered the Carnegie Breakfast. Both were delicious! I also got a Sour Monkey beer. That was a tad too sour for me. Not in a bad way. The ambience is lovely. Love the wood-themed decor.

Francis A.

Google
One of my favorite eatery at the University City. Always bought the Cure with everything bagel 🥯 and taste of awesomeness hasn’t changed in many years visiting Spread Bagelry. The service is great and once u place ur order, you will be called when it’s ready to takeaway or dine inside. Dining inside or their patio is great and they also have assorted beers night freezer or some drafts on tap. I have enjoyed brunch there many times watching some sports games in the weekend. A must place to visit when in the University City. Cheers 🍻

Google
These guys run a crazy good shop. And it is so worth the small wait in line. The staff has this amazing bagel shop running fantastic. Then to top it off the food is super fresh and GOOD! Love watching the bagels being made and cooked in the wood fired oven.

Yelp
Decent bagels and lots of spread options, although they can be busy and a little pricey. This is your standard bagel spot, nothing wrong with it but nothing incredible. I always get the Nova cream cheese because the full lox bagels are more than I'm willing to pay for a quick breakfast, and while it's good and reliable, I wish the salmon pieces were larger. I personally like schmear it better. Their cream cheeses have bigger chunks of mix-ins and it's only a block or two away.

Yelp
While this is a great destination for a quick bite to eat, I would not say that this is the best bagel shop I have tried. Perks included the fast turnaround time, great outdoor seating and a good coffee selection, but I felt like the bagel left a lot to be desired.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
This bagel place is okay, nothing special about it really. If you're craving a bagel in university city and stop by here, it would satisfy your craving. But if you want a decent and quality bagel with more options, I would look elsewhere. Service was good. Inside was clean.

Kimberley G.

Yelp
I love it here! I feel like it took my way to long to come check this place out! But I'm so glad I did! I'm crazy about the Rosemary Olive Oil bagel! But eventually I'll try some of the others they have. And the entire menu looks incredibly delicious! Can't wait to try other menu items when I'm in a different food mood!

Yelp
I was here 2 days ago and made a review about the availability of bagel selections. However, I went back today, and it was AMAZING! My son got an everything bagel with cream cheese, and I got the blueberry lemon bagel with strawberry basil cream cheese, per a staff recommendation. Quick service and delicious quality! I also appreciate the response from my first review. This is an establishment I will visit should we ever have to come back to CHOP because of the customer service and food quality.

Yelp
I went in and got carry out from this location. Very casual place in a college town area. The service was good, but employees were definitely distracted talking to each other. I ordered the Philly Special sandwich on a rosemary bagel. It tasted good. The bagel was a good texture. I just don't know that it was worth $13. Maybe like $8. I took off so many stars because I just don't think the price matches the value on this place.

Michael M.

Yelp
Great bagels and quick service. I really enjoyed their bagels. I would definitely god back the next time I am in Philly.

John D.

Yelp
I'm only in the city when I need to go to the medical center. ~2 years ago I was here for a medical issue and came in for a bagel with nova slices. It was really really good. In my mind I started benchmarking their bagels with everyone else. Over the next 2 years I placed them near the top of the bagel making establishment. I'm near 60 years old and live in the NYC area and have had a LOT of bagels. When I had the chance to stop in today a get the same bagel as 2 years ago it was every bit as good as it was before. This place knows what they are doing! The food is outstanding. Looking forward to going back the next time I'm here. Thanks for the great bagels.
google avatar

Amber Y.

Yelp
I always stop by for a bagel when I'm in the area. They're always really friendly and have quick service. The bagels are great and the cream cheese ratio is ideal. I love sitting in the back area, with its cozy feel.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
I enjoyed grabbing plain or poppy seed bagel with cream cheese, or a bagel sandwich around lunch. Could be a bit on the messy side when fully loaded up, but always tasty. Maybe take just a little bit less on the bagel would be better. It's fine when I'm eating alone, but I wouldn't chance it with a client. The service could be a little spotty depending on whether the crew had some experience, or whether they were rookies. Unfortunately, in the current climate, it felt like they went through a span where they were constantly training. But they do hustle and try to keep things moving along as best they can. All in all, a good place to grab a bite to take with you back to the office.
google avatar

Carly L.

Yelp
A pretty nice place to grab a nice bagel and some coffee. I got the egg white bagel and it was pretty good. Huge portion! The prices were reasonable. Service was pretty good, besides nearly forgetting my coffee :(. The coffee was not as good as imagined, but it was not too bad.
google avatar

Kathleen S.

Yelp
The store was very busy when we arrived. They have a selection of bagels with different cream cheeses available. They make all the bagels fresh right then and there by boiling and then baking in the wood-fire oven. I recommend eating the bagels fresh and hot though, unfortunately I didn't get to eat mine until after I arrived home about 45 minutes later and the bagel was a big harder and crunchy. It still tasted decent, but I think probably eating fresh and hot is more part of the experience and would make for a better review

Greg A.

Yelp
The wood fired bagels were amazing. They did not skimp on the spread, so be aware if you don't like that much on a bagel. I had the Nova lox egg bagel. Nice, kind staff and quick.
google avatar

Fia M.

Yelp
Tried "the cure", it was loaded with egg, bacon, and beef brisket , so good. Well made and quick service.

Maliha A.

Yelp
This place is terribly inefficient. When we went in person, and they literally refused service because they were overwhelmed filling an online order. Okay, so we'll order online, right? Nope. Of the 3 times we tried to order online, they cancelled our orders twice without any notice or reason, and no phone call to see if a substitution could be made. Do yourself a favor and go to the one on 24th and walnut.

Daniel R.

Yelp
Don't get the salted egg bagel. It's too salty. Don't get the nova salmon cream cheese. I can't imagine it tasting good in large amounts with any bagel. The cream cheeses are whipped. This would be good on an open-face bagel, but it's bad in a bagel sandwich because of how easily it squeezes out every time you take a bite.

Yelp
at 10 am, i woke up on my friends' couch. it was easter sunday!! my friend, janel, and i plotted to set up an easter egg hunt in our friends' dorm. we planned everything out! we went to five below to buy easter egg shells, candy, and toys. on easter eve (the saturday night before easter sunday), we hung out at their dorm and claimed we were "too tired"; we would need to sleep over for the night. at 7 am, janel woke up and hid the eggs. everyone went around, searching competitively for the eggs. i went crazy!! i was determined to get the fall guys toy that was placed in the most difficult hiding spot (it was under the couch) at the end of the easter egg hunt, we all decided we were hungry. we concluded that we wanted to try out spread bagelry! spread bagelry is really nice. they had a variety of options, ranging from getting a plain bagel, to a bagel breakfast sandwich, to coffees, teas, and beverages. my friends said that a person's bagel choice says a lot about them. here were our bagel choices: i got the everything bagel with maple bacon cream cheese. it was really good. my other friend got a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese. it was also good. the rest of my friends got the standards breakfast sandwich. they were also all good. i did not order one of the beverages, but the rest of my friends did and they all liked it. the iced coffees were pretty sweet! (which is how i like my coffee, personally). i also had a sip of the chocolate iced mocha and that was actually so good. i recommend it if you are willing to be adventurous, and you want to try something new the actual atmosphere was nice. it was pretty clean and neat. the customer service was nice as well!! they were very helpful in the ordering process. they offered suggestions and recommendations when i couldn't decide on what to order. also, they put in a lot of effort to pronounce our names correctly. it's a really dumb thing to take note of, but it was a small thing that i appreciated! overall, spread bagelry is so lit! it made our easter sunday super fun and memorable.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this is ranked so low! The bagels are excellent, the online ordering is convenient (and punctual), and the staff is helpful. A dozen bagels plus three spreads ran me $40, which feels fair given the economy and the quality. My go-to spot for picking up bagels for the team.
google avatar

Aziza D.

Yelp
Amazing bagels w/ rich cream cheese. I like their Montreal oven style. I haven't had the sandwiches or coffees but they're always being ordered when I visit so I'm hoping to try them soon. Highly recommend trying a toasted bagel here. Service can be a little slow when it's busy. They do have indoor and outdoor seating which is nice since there isn't much lighting inside.

Jason M.

Yelp
These are some seriously good bagels and the spreads are far better than anything you'd buy at a supermarket and you're given a generous schemer. Try something unique like the maple spread. And the red-eye coffee while not a super premium is pretty good and a fine pickmeup when you need it. Spread isn't an everyday place but a nice treat.

Dominick R.

Yelp
Great spot. I'll usually go for the cheese sandwich with some bacon and eggs, but this time I decided to switch it up. Let me say, I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I went for the cheese sandwich with a bit of brisket, and boy oh boy was it good. So good in fact that I had a couple more. Definitely a must try!
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
Bagels seem great if you like Montreal style. Plant-based cream cheese is on the menu screen...and never seems to be there. Disappointed every single time. If you aren't committed to having it don't list it with a price.

Yelp
Should have looked at the other reviews before coming here but it was raining sideways and I needed a quick lunch stat so I figured why not try something new instead of something tried and true? Kind of wishing I just did the latter. It's a 2 for prices and service and a 4 for flavor so I'll settle on a 3. Menu is varied, with all day breakfast sandwiches, a decent selection of lunch sandwiches, and some coffee options. I was feeling lunch so opted for the roasted chicken BLT because I LOVE a bagel BLT. The choice of bagel was overwhelming but I got the rosemary olive oil. Nearly 10-15 minutes later, my food was ready, which was a bit absurd considering there was one person ahead of me, but also makes sense given that there was one single man making all the orders. They must be short-staffed like everyone else. I think what annoyed me a bit was that I could see he completed my order, then put it in the expedited pick-up queue but didn't announce whose it was, and the cashier and one other employee I saw didn't make any attempt to clear the queue either and hand out orders. I suppose I could have politely asked "is this mine?" But I didn't wanna intervene. When I finally unwrapped my sandwich, it exploded on impact. There was no attempt to swath it snugly in the wrapping and the MOUNDS of shredded roast chicken went everywhere. However, the garlic aioli, crispy bacon, and deliciously warm and salty rosemary olive oil bagel were saving graces. Overall, it was not worth $11 ($14 if you count the basic iced black tea from the fridge). Next time I'd just get a bagel with cream cheese and call it a day.

Yelp
This place has great bagels with a good portion. The everything bagel taste so much like seeds that it's sort of not great but the other bagels are so good. They have messed up our order but when the order is right it's a great place for breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Spread's the closest bagel store to Penn. They have a cute outdoor seating area set up and you can also takeout. You can order online but I suggest ordering through the Snackpass app since students can receive 10% off their order. I got the Egg White on an everything bagel ($9.50). I liked everything inside the bagel and there was a generous amount, but I wasn't the fan of the bagel itself. It tasted pretty stale and the texture was too dense. The sandwich was also really greasy. In my opinion, I've tasted a lot better for cheaper. TLDR: The bagels were subpar and overpriced.

Maria C.

Yelp
2 Saturdays in a row at 8:30 Am, no plain bagels are available for walk-in customers. They are being held for catering orders. Poor management of this location. How does a Bagelry run out of plain bagels?
google avatar

JJ D.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Spread Bagelry is a quaint coffee/bagel shop with some seating. It is a well-lit and decorated place that is nice for catching up on emails or reading in the morning (we visited pre-COVID lockdowns). Service: The service was prompt and ordering was a breeze! The bagels came freshly heated fairly quickly. Food: We ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with seasonal sweet berry spread and a chocolate chip bagel with plain cream cheese. This was not your typical store-bought bagel or cream cheese. The bagels had a nice bite to them, especially as they were heated to perfection. The cream cheese spreads were flavorful but not overpowering. Overall: Spread Bagelry gave us the perfect breakfast bite we needed before heading out of Philly. The bagels were fresh, and the spreads were equally delicious. We thought the price of the spread sandwiches were reasonable, but the more elaborate bagel sandwiches seemed to be a bit on the pricier side. We recommend coming for a quick bite of bagel and cream cheese rather than full-blown breakfast.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Love Spreads bagel choices! Always super fresh and yummy. Wide variety of sandwiches and cream cheese spreads. Will be back to try more varieties of bagels and spreads. Reasonable prices too under $10! Great breakfast or lunch spot if you're in University City.
google avatar

Yelp
I come here frequently with my girlfriend for quick bagels in the morning on weekends. Every single time we come the staff is extremely rude and impatient. The woman working the cashier with black and red hair is always very rude and gives all customers attitude. I understand the stress of working in a restaurant but it doesn't take much to be polite and patient with someone giving your business money! We ordered a PB&J bagel and a peanut butter and apple bagel and the presentation was next to pathetic. How much effort does it take to make a bagel look appealing? This shows the carelessness and great lack of professionalism of the staff here. This is a shame as it is a very convenient location being in University City. We will not be returning.
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
Slow service and sloppy bagel sandwiches. They used to always forget condiments on request which was an issue, but now there's an even bigger red flag -- they have a condiments station which is extremely unsanitary during COVID. High-touch area + food that requires your hands to eat it = a recipe for mass infection infection, especially if it's in such a popular location. I used to tolerate this place since it's in a convenient location despite the subpar service, but never again.
google avatar

A S.

Yelp
My first time at this particular location. I've been to the South st location numerous times. I decided to try the whitefish salad, as cautious as I was because I am very selective about where I eat whitefish salad from. Needless to say, tasted like they put a fistful of salt in the salad! Whitefish salad is naturally salty so, this was not needed! I managed to get through half of the bagel sandwich but couldn't finish the rest unfortunately. Almost $11.00 and totally disappointed :-(
google avatar

Sherry L.

Yelp
I'm here quite literally every day. I love it here. My go tos are the everything with scallion or a garlic with nova. I've tried the tofu cream cheese and I've had much better in New York. Not as creamy or full bodied as a regular cream cheese, and u can definitely tell it's vegan. But I'd still eat again. For those that say the service is slow, sometimes they can get really busy but I usually order ahead. I have noticed that their order ahead isn't updated so they're missing some of the items that they offer in store. But they have all the classics so I would say u only really need to order in person for more specialty stuff. With order ahead my stuff is usually ready by 15 minutes latest. Also tip don't get the lox w everything bagel. Too salty!
google avatar

Maria F.

Yelp
I was at this Spread in university city this morning and it was PACKED. I was already late for work so I though I would be patient and get a pizza bagel. I waited for over an hour and was finally given my bagel; one worker was working diligently and quickly, while the other who made my bagel was very lethargic and very careless even after seeing I had waited for so long. When I finally got my bagel, I ran out to get to my job. When I opened my bagel however, there was literally no cheese on it and what was left was literally just a bagel with soggy tomato sauce. I was not rushing the workers and at least expected a good bagel when I received it. Shown is a photo of the sloppy bagel. Honestly I'm just looking to give feedback because I love Spread but this is one of the worst things that's happened to me an an establishment as far as quality care. Please respond back because I've really just wasted my money and time today. The diligent worker was apologetic about the time and I believe she did the best she could with the cards she had dealt.
google avatar

A B.

Yelp
Idk the one I went to on the Walnut Street bridge wasn't great. Not the service or the food. I guess the one on 20th is the best still.
google avatar

Nikki F.

Yelp
This review is based on staff alone. Came in for a bagel and all of the staff had big, big attitudes. Argumentative and all just stand at stare at a customer when they are asking a simple question and just give big, big rude attitude. Not a great way to start your day. Will not return at least to this location.
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
My fav bagel place in Philadelphia. I always order the plain bagel w scallion and another with strawberry basil cream cheese. Then I combine the two and it's so gooood. The people here are nice and friendly. Has a nice seating area.
google avatar

Tahj C.

Yelp
They sold me a hard azz burned bagel for $4. And change. Never again. I was very dissatisfied, went back for a refund.
google avatar

Rosa H.

Yelp
For a lazy Sunday morning where you crave a bagel, Spread Bagelry is definitely a great place to go. They have various types of bagels and spreads to choose from. My typical go to is the Classic Breakfast Sandwich with eggs, cheese, and bacon on an everything or sesame bagel. Very good and very much like a standard breakfast sandwich. I felt adventurous one day and tried the jalapeño lime spread and I was pleasantly surprised. The spread was made fresh with chopped up pieces of jalapeño giving it a nice kick. I didn't taste any lime in the spread, but maybe that was for the best? The only downside was that there was a bit toooo much spread. I had to wipe a good chunk off because my bagel was coated.
google avatar

Nina Z.

Yelp
This place was a disappointment. I was excited to order a classic nova salmon sandwich and the cure breakfast sandwich. My classic nova sandwich had cream cheese, tomato and smoked salmon. Unfortunately, there was only a thin layer of cream cheese on one bagel so this sandwich was very dry. On the other hand, my husband's breakfast sandwich was drenched in sriracha spread that it was dripping off his sandwich. Serious lack of consistency. This place sets you up with great expectations when reading the menu but because the items are poorly executed it turns out to be a huge disappointment. Won't recommend and would only return for their fresh squeezed orange juice which was quite good. But honestly who goes to a bagel shop for just OJ.....?.....no one that's who.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, SHAME ON FRIGGIN ME!!! Wow. I'm literally shook. If you peep my past Yelp review, you can read about my first terrible experience with Spread. But, alas, here I am again, even more angry. I honestly feel foolish that I'm writing this for a SECOND time, but then my foolishness is masked by anger that an establishment could have such blatant disregard, not only for what they sell and their customers, but also their lack of customer service and pride in their own establishment. Spread has a ballpark of 97 reviews on their page and an overall 3 star rating...there is only a handful of pleased customers, and the rest, like myself, think Spread is a joke. I'm in the majority. Most people who have reviewed this page have given them 2 stars, followed by 1, followed by 3. Like isn't that an issue? I'm going to let my attached pictures speak for themselves, but the jist of what happened, is: I ordered something online and got something completely repulsive. I have my receipt attached and a picture of the order I received. I then called to complain and the management was very rude and unaccommodating. A new bagel came about 1.5 hours later (ridiculous) and the order was still wrong. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
google avatar

Chelle K.

Yelp
They say you are what you eat. Well, if that's true, then I'm at least 60% bagel with egg and cheese, for the amount of times I've started my weekend off with a bagel breakfast sandwich and an iced coffee. So, when I discovered a bagelry on campus, I was more than eager to give it a try. Nothing sounds better than starting off class with egg and cheese on a fresh-made bagel, right? Wrong. For the price point, Spread did not do my beloved bagel sandwich justice. The bagel itself was hard and too chewy, and the egg/cheese combo was greasy and only half melted. Will just my sandwich clocking in above $10, I definitely wouldn't make Spread a habit, and would be hesitant to go back anytime soon with the much cheaper (and better quality) Dunkin' nearby.
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
I love my bagels so this was a really good place. The things inside the bagels were sticking out because everything was packed in the sandwich and it just made the bagel even better.
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
Always delicious bagels and sandwiches, good coffee and tea too. We like to sit on the patio to eat. They are doing some renovations now but hope they're back in shape by our next visit!
google avatar

Kris L.

Yelp
Again an okay bagel with good chewy consistency but undersalted! I found the bagel bland and the cream cheese as well. $3.50 for a bagel w plain shmear and $4.50 for one with special shmear. Fresh squeezed OJ was delish! Pros: nice outdoor seating in the morning, seating shared with Brooklyn brewery.
google avatar

Jax L.

Yelp
The bagel was decently but the service was bad and the prices exorbitant. Who charges the same amount for cream cheese on the bagel as they do the actual bagel?! Got the cinnamon raisin bagel ($2) with cream cheese (no price listed on menu) and a coffee. It came to $6. I asked how much the cream cheese was and the person said "it comes to $4.02". What?! Sitting down, I was like this better be the best cream cheese I've had in my life. Open my bagel and see that they've put a solid 3/4 cup of cream cheese on the thing. Im like, ok, maybe it's part of the experience. Bite into the bagel- nope. It's just way to much cream cheese. I took it off and still had a huge amount on my bagel. See the picture to see how much I took off. So ridiculous. Plus the cashier was rude. Don't waste your time or money.
google avatar

Nikitha S.

Yelp
Great spot to quickly pick up breakfast on the go. The bagels are great and the selection is diverse so if you want a meal for a bagel... you have that. But if you're on a " diet " and want a simple pick me up in the morning - you can get a simple salmon spread on an everything bagel. My favorite bagel would be the the one with jam, tomato, bacon, and egg ( the jam really does it ). The only thing that confused me about the place is the pure ambience. There's beers, other food selections, and some pastries. But I guess if you wanted to get tipsy at noon and craved chocolate + bagels - then there you go! Slightly over priced for bagels but would go back without a doubt!
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Popped in to get a quick breakfast and to try their montreal-style bagels. And this place is rather confusing. I got a everything bagel with scallion spread and tomato. I didn't get a crazy sandwich but it was still a pretty penny for just that. I don't know why I paid $1 for two tomato slices but I made a mistake there. The whole thing was really bland there's no flavor really to the bagel and the cream cheese was surprisingly bland. Service kind of sucks because I stood around not knowing that the coffee was self-serve and the chick never told me I eventually figured it out. I really like their coffee which is really La Colombe's (sorry idk how to spell it) I probably wouldn't come back because of price and the bagels just weren't really worth it. They get four stars though because they included all three of my ingredients without messing it up which from these reviews seems to be a problem. And I didn't have to wait in line.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
I would spend some much money here if it wasn't such a disaster in here. An adult should oversee the front area. It's dirty and inefficient. There are so many people working yet things aren't actually getting done well. Here is a picture of my dirty to go order of cream cheese that was half filled by one employee then another finished filling it and decided not to put a lid on it and threw it onto the counter where a customer open mouth coughed on it. Finally another employee put a lid on at my request without using gloves. I won't go back here... It's a shame because they make good bagels.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent toasted bagel with cream cheese and slab of lox (or smoked salmon, if you prefer). Its nice to find a decent serving of lox on a bagelry bagel but this is very nice. Delicious with tomato and onion. No, its not quite a NY bagel & lox, but it is good nonetheless. I keep this for myself as an occasional treat. Good coffee also. Its perhaps a bit pricey (about $14 for "the classic" - bagel, cream cheese, lox) but if that is what you are craving then it will hit the spot. Service has always been prompt and pleasant in my experience.. I like the outdoor patio - when the weather is nice, great to eat out there. Sometimes its too warm inside the shop.
