A campus-side stalwart for Hong Kong–style barbecue and Cantonese comfort: house-roasted duck and pork, seafood soups, and indulgent baked-rice casseroles. Regulars come for the unfussy room and deeply traditional flavors.

We were stoked to try this Cantonese restaurant in the U of O area. Maybe it's legit, but everything was way too salty. The beef brisket noodle soup was definitely not correct. The flavor of the meat was off and it wasn't tender. The noodle texture was not bouncy. The service was awesome, though. The guy who took my order was super friendly. I think I will need to keep looking for a good Cantonese place around here.

Very authentic and delicious! Always treated kindly and served the best quality most delicious food! The portions are generous and the flavors are infectious! Easily one of my favorite places in Eugene!

I tried one of the combo plates. The portions were generous. The sweet and sour pork was so yummy. I wanted more. The fried shrimp in the combo was nice and crunchy and large in size. However I do NOT recommend the pork fried rice at all. It was dry and bland as well as looking and tasting reheated. They do have some dimsum items available to offer, I tried two. One, the pork bun was fluffy and yummy. However the soup dumplings while tasting ok was obviously bought from a store. It literally looked and tasted like the same thing I had recently boy from an Asian grocery store. Service wise there were three people on staff, but I only actually saw one of them working the entire hour I was there. He was friendly and efficient. The other two people say at a table in the back speaking to each other and ignoring customers. The atmosphere was clean and utilitarian with a few poster on the walls . You have to go to the register, are given a plastic menu and have to order your food there and it's brought to you at the table. The dim sum is primarily posted on the wall to the left of the register. Also, you have to get your own silverware and water, they don't serve it to you.

Google
THE BEST CANTONESE RESTAURANT I'VE HAD IN THE WHOLE US & EUROPE. I'm from HK and our HKnese friend who used to dine here for years brought us here. All dishes were cooked authentically and we were impressed with how tasty they were, literally. Huge portion with top quality. Their house special HKnese lemon tea was very refreshing.

Google
Amazing! I tried the Singapore noodles, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chicken chow mein, and they were all so delicious! Great service too—the worker taking my order gave me good recommendations, and the food came fast!

Google
Excellent Vegetable Fried Rice! My first time here! I will be back, that's 100% certain. Lots of egg, deeply flavorful, great job not overcooking the veggies & the rice was NOT all dried out, like I have found at SO many other places. I hate dried out rice. This Vegetable Fried Rice was moist, fresh & packed full of taste bud bursting deliciousness! My dining partner had Sweet & Sour chicken with Steamed rice. He has eaten here before & he is who gave me the recommendation to eat lunch here. Great Lunch special price too!

Google
You really don’t expect a huge difference menu than other “Chinese” restaurants, and the environment and service won’t be great… but, I still remember their fried rice, exactly taste like what I had at home street food. So here I am And yes. Fired Mei Fun is exactly what I expected too. It’s a nice cheap restaurant around campus. Really big size of dish, be careful:p

Google
"Gonna get a big dish of Beef Chow Mein.". The time was getting close to four. The cook/owner let me order Beef Chow Mein Lunch Special. He didn't give me the fried Rice with it. I do not care! This place has a good selection of Mainland Cantonese food, as well as its American Cousins. I am here to eat Beef Chow Mein from every Eugene and Springfield Chinese Restaurant. Silly, I know. Thank you, Warren Zevon. My next time in I will order the Cantonese Steamed Chicken. Abrupt, on the edge of caustic service. I love it. The folks are nice. This Chow Mein is unique to this establishment. Skinny, skinny noodles. Well cooked vegetables. Tender is as tender does beef. I enjoyed this dish very much.

Yelp
Visiting from the Bay Area again, I was craving some legit Chinese food. The last time I ate here there was so enjoyable, I wanted to return to fix my craving. Despite the passage of time from my last visit, the food is still consistently good. It was nice to see and hear other patrons speaking Cantonese, it felt like home. We ordered the shrimp curry, Mongolian beef & spicy eggplant. Of the 3 dishes, our favorites were the shrimp curry and the Mongolian beef. The spicy eggplant in garlic sauce, in my opinion, overly sauced and not spicy at all, despite the spicy asterisk and least enjoyable. Overall, it was still a pleasant dining experience and it felt almost like home. I would recommend it for good Hong Kong style Chinese food. Can't go wrong! Note: They never removed the signage offering durian smoothies--I asked again this visit & they said that's an old sign and they don't offer it any longer.

Yelp
4.5 stars for effort...........Sadly only 3.5 stars for execution........so 4 stars. Eugene has plenty of Szechuan Chinese restaurants which are very good, but authentic Cantonese style Chinese food is harder to find. Spring House attempts to make dishes that you'd find in metro areas that have chinatowns. We had 4 standard Cantonese dishes (beef chow fun, Singapore curry rice noodles, stewed beef noodle soup, & salt & pepper squid) so we could judge how "authentic" they could cook. While the components were there, besides the squid which was scrumptious, something was slightly amiss for the other dishes. The chow fun lacked the "faw hay", the Singapore noodle was too salty, and the noodles in the beef stew (good & tender) wasn't "right." It's a counter serve type place where you get your own water, utensils, etc. And the prices were fair as was the quantity of food. The staff were friendly & helpful, though don't expect a "fine dining" experience. For Eugene, this might be as close as you can get to authentic Chinatown style cooking so it's worth a try and maybe you might like it.

Yelp
Update: Alright it's a 5/5. We ordered more Cantonese dishes and explored a bit more, and everything has been delicious. The service is so nice, and always helpful. Thinking of the beef and egg dish makes me drool. Pork belly is always a staple. Fried rice - incredible.

Yelp
Well I finally found a Chinese restaurant that delivers. The service is friendly and welcoming and the food is some of the best I've had in a long time. If you are looking for a place to get your Chinese fix, this is the place.

Yelp
The food is amazing. This is our favorite Asian restaurant in Eugene. There are too many choices for me to list, and my favorites might not be yours. We've tried a lot of the menu over the years and try to steer toward milder dishes. If your item says spicy it will be. * We live on the South Hill and when we call in our order it is almost always ready by the time we get there to pick up - 10 - 15 minutes.

Yelp
Spring house is a great option for Chinese food in Eugene! I have only had the orange chicken there but it was very good. No artificial orange taste like you sometimes get at other restaurants when ordering this dish. The orange tastes super natural like they used just the juice to flavor it. Huge portions. You get your moneys worth. Employees are so kind and accommodating. There is indoor seating available as well as takeout. Would be interested in trying their other menu items. Check this place out next time you are craving Chinese!

Yelp
Took my team here for a holiday dinner! Amazing selection of food! I have finally found an authentic Chinese restaurant here in Eugene! The owners were lovely & provided excellent service....can't wait to return. 5

Yelp
Right at the Campus of U of O! I've been mourning the loss of Spring Garden restaurant on Main at Pioneer Parkway in Springfield since the doors were closed. I wore sack cloth and ashes. I sat on the floor and wept bitter tears. Silly me, they moved to Spring HOUSE! Found this out and had to go. Parking is somewhat limited in the area, but you can buy time on the street in the convenient boxes that suck money from your credit/debit card. An hour cost me $2.00! (It's over $20.00 an hour in San Francisco, so who's complaining?) They have a great menu, and I will be returning to sample more as I can. THIS is a great place for a person dining alone. You get a very reasonable plate of very good food for a very reasonable price. I chose Creamy egg and Pork baked rice. Stupendous! Delicious! Great taste, texture and quantity. The ambience is, in a word, missing. There are a ton of pictures of the dishes on the walls. You get to serve yourself for flatware and/or chopsticks, ice water and napkins. Now go find a table and sit down. Mom and Pop who run the place speak good English, and are great hosts. The lunch menu is well done, with lots of options. I look forward to eating my way through it in the next half decade.

Yelp
If you are a college student and need some cheap eats, this is the spot to go. 10/10 fried rice, personally I recommend the crab but you can't go wrong with anything. Best fried rice i've ever had, and i've been around the country . Service is quick and easy, whether it's eating in the restaurant or to-go.

Yelp
Steamed Chicken is a must try! It's really really delicious and good! You can never have such a smooth and soft and unforgettable chicken taste if you don't try this!

Miles V.

Yelp
This is my go-to choice for Chinese take-out in Eugene. The food is fairly priced and sizeable portions for the money. Best hot-&-sour soup I've ever had, and their Szechuan options are nicely spiced with the pepper pods actually soft and edible wthout burning. Very much recommend the salt and pepper prawns and the spicy squid. In fact, all of their seafood is fresh and excellent. Be sure to study the (mostly off-menu) items photographed at the counter.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Good food, one of the shrimp may have had it's problems, but overall tasty. Large portions in a serve-yourself atmosphere. Next time, I will try some of the Dim Sum items pictured by the order window.

Maja G.

Yelp
Best Chinese in town! Duck fried rice is the bomb! Service always friendly & courteous.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Chinese food I have had outside China. The staff is so friendly and it is owned by the sweetest family. The food is always ready on-time or early and it is terrific as leftovers. This will never not be my go-to Chinese restaurant. The inside feels just like China too. The most authentic Chinese restaurant you can get.

Yelp
If you want good Chinese food, nice atmosphere, and good service... Look elsewhere. 1) This place is SUPER confusing to find if you use gps. It's on the street, but parking isn't ideal. Either you have to park on the very busy street OR park around the block behind the restaurant in a VERY sketchy parking lot. (Like, have pepper spray on hand.) 2)The service isn't great. I walked in, wasn't acknowledged or greeted at all. As a side note: There were several employees at various tables, eating. 3) It's a "seat yourself" kind of place, but I had difficulty even finding a table that was clean! It's not a big place, and there aren't very many tables, but almost all of them had dirty plates/cups on them. Apparently they take a longggg time to get around to bussing tables! (And most of the remaining few had employees sitting at them eating). It was NOT busy when I arrived. 3) The menu is okay. Not a lot of description as to what ingredients are in the dishes, but the pictures above the counter are somewhat helpful. Warning: The "number" items on the laminated menu don't exactly match up with the "number" items listed above the counter! 4)Food is meh. The fried rice was pretty dry and hard. Noodles were greasy. BBQ duck flavor was ok, but lots of bones, not much meat. Pork is nothing but fat; inedible. If you are a stereotypical college student that will eat anything- Feel free to give this place a try. If you have standards at all- Look elsewhere. 5)Restaurant cleanliness is questionable. Besides all of the un-bussed tables, the general cleanliness of the interior could use some work. Especially when you look in the kitchen and towards the back of the restaurant at all; Very cluttered and messy. Just doesn't look clean. 6)Prices are okay, not expensive. But for the cruddy atmosphere, service, and food... Not worth the money. Overall, this restaurant is not worth going to.

Yelp
Family style meals that are affordable and cooked to perfection! Friendly cashier. Quiet atmosphere. We took our food to-go. My 4 year old (the real food critic) gave two thumbs up!

Julius C.

Yelp
Fantastic authentic Chinese food. Flew in today from Berkeley, CA for the CAL / Oregon football game. This is as good as it gets and is comparable to the Chinese food in the SF Bay Area!

Coco C.

Yelp
Food is not Americanized. Not the best but consider in this city with the price, whoever miss Hongkong or Chinese food should give it a try ! It sure tasted better than Panda Express. Pls don't expect a service, you order it at the window , pay the bill, and get the water , utensil , plates yourself :) nevertheless , we still tipped

Yelp
Came back for some authentic cantonese food. I'd have to say, this is one of the best Chinese restaurant I've eaten at including those in NYC, and that's alot! Chilean sea bass casserole was full of fish and flavor. Steamed chix was great as usual. They ran out of crispy pork again. This is the 3rd time they ran out. Just wondering why they don't just cook more on hand if they constantly run out. Anyway, quick and delicious. Not the same old boring gen tso or pork fried rice.

Philip T.

Yelp
Amazing food!! I eat lunch from here almost every weekday, and the dishes are really tasty, authentic and wallet friendly. Their portions are huge too, so much that I usually just have the leftovers for dinner. Some of my favourite dishes are: Fujian Mei Fun, Singapore Noodles, Szechuan beef, Bbq pork fried rice, Kung Pao Chicken, House special stewed beef noodle soup. I take all my friends visiting Eugene to this place at least once and they all love it!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Probably the best Kung pow chicken I've ever had. Nice and spicy but not over the top. Ill be back again this week while in town for the track meet.

Jake C.

Yelp
best Chinese restaurant in the area, hands down. great STICKY white rice and they don't put f-in peas and carrots in your fried rice! i don't know what's up with the other Chinese restaurants in town, they all add carrots and peas, and their rice is meh.. nothing worse than bad rice and overly americanized Chinese menus imo. i just wish they would come out with a LIGHTLY battered orange chicken and general TSOs, that would be money!
google avatar

Oneo V.

Yelp
Food here is great, the prices are reasonable, and the serving sizes are generous. Surprisingly, the food here isn't too greasy or overly salty. I highly recommend the chives & pork belly stir fry, the salt & pepper squid, and the duck fried rice.

Hanming L.

Yelp
I got my food after a large group got theirs, and the large group ordered after I ordered. When I asked for an explanation for it, they told me some nonsense. After I pointed out that they are telling me nonsense, they told me "if you are not satisfied just don't come back again". Before this I went there almost everyday for lunch. Well I guess I know what to do.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I was excited to try their food... Huge disappointment. I ordered the vegetable chow Mein & crab puffs. The noodles in the chow mein were extremely overcooked, dry & bland. Sooo oily! The "vegetables" consisted of mostly cabbage and overcooked greasy onions. There was a greasy carrot or two & a couple flowerettes of broccoli, soaked in oil. It was heavy and pretty much inedible. Chow Mein should be light & fresh, this was the opposite. (This dish was $17.95! Total waste of money). The "crab" puffs were cooked well, but pretty bland and it was obvious that they use imitation Krab. The sweet & sour sauce that accompanied it was the only flavorful part of the meal; I was surprised by the fresh citrus taste. The steamed rice was cooked properly, and honestly the only part of the meal I enjoyed. This food might appeal to starving college students or drunk people coming home from the bar. But if that's the quality of their food, they should be charging much less. Maybe in a few months, I might give it another chance.

Yelp
My go to for Southern Style Chinese food in Eugene. Many Chinese restaurants in cuisine are focused in Szechuan cuisine. Many people that I have talked to often fuse all types of Chinese food into one category but Spring House serves dishes that are much different. Spring House is great for lunch or dinner. They offer large lunch specials with their Chinese BBQ meat which is extremely fresh and tasty. Surprisingly to me, their BBQ meat is even better than any I have had in Portland. My favorite is the Roast Pork and the BBQ Pork. As for entrees, I absolutely love the Beef/Seafood Baked Rice. 1 order is around $18 but it can feed up to 3 hungry people. Every bite is satisfying and rich with flavors and textures. I highly recommend Spring House, especially the dishes I have listed above. If I ever need to "home-cooked" Chinese food in Eugene, I can go to Spring House to satisfy my cravings.
google avatar

Jade M.

Yelp
So yummy!! Love their lunch specials! The workers are very nice and they have a fast and effective take out system. I like their sweet and sour chicken and general tso's.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch after an appointment across the Street. We had been wanting to try it out after passing it by on our many trips to Kunfusion. I am glad we stopped. For one I was impressed with the inside. For how small it is, they really have it set up nicely, and they have comfortable chairs. I also like the pictures of the food. I usually know what most of the items are, many places make them differently. I like to see what they look like. Everything looked, and sounded amazing on the menu. It was hard to decide on what to get. There are things I am looking forward to ordering next time, and trying out. You grab your plates, and silver wear/ chopsticks here. Most of it is self serve except the drinks, and they serve you the food. I bring this up because I am rating this place a 4 star because of this. Also my personal opinion if it was a sit down where your plates, etc are brought to you the prices would be perfect. But for campus, and the self service style I think it is on the higher side. Now that being said, I really like this place and am in no way putting this place down. Just giving my rating on a star 4 out of 5 based on that. The food was great, I had the kun pao chicken. It was full of flavor. They were awesome about refilling the rice. We also had General Tsao's chicken. It was perfect! One of the best in town. The pork spring rolls were good. But not the best I have had. This place is definitely now one of my top favorites in the Chinese food category. The people who run it were very friendly. All the above makes me want to return soon.
google avatar

Susanne B.

Yelp
Ordered several items for delivery. The restaurant failed to send one of the items & then refused to send it. The food that was delivered was passable but their unwillingness to fulfill our order despite admitting their mistake means we will NEVER order fro them again!
google avatar

BH J.

Yelp
All foods was too old and salty. Sweet sour soup and chicken stir fried with garlic and soy sauce was so too salty and chicken too dried. Not worthy for the price.

Andrew A.

Yelp
The soup dumplings and BBQ meats rival NY Chinatown--Eugene, and UO students, are lucky to have this place!!

Yelp
Our usual go to Chinese spot was closed today, so we opted to try a new place (that had pretty decent reviews, mind you): Spring House Chinese Restaurant. And as much as I hate to be negative of a local place during these hard times, especially since I know so many places are struggling, I gotta say how disappointed I was in my first experience here. . . First, the good parts: The food arrived hot and well packaged, plus nothing was forgotten or missed. Now, the not so good parts: The quantities were very small for the incredibly high price that was paid, and on that high price note, the food was just mediocre. The fried rice actually tasted a little bit stale, and the all veggie dish was basically just steamed cabbages as there were barely any other veggies (broccoli, carrots, etc.) mixed in which was a big bummer. . . Everything that was ordered was there, plus nothing was made incorrectly, so there's not really anything to be fixed. I was just very surprised at the small quantity and the meh taste of the food for the high price that was paid. This was the first time we've ever ordered from here and unfortunately, this will likely be the last time as well.
google avatar

Raymond W.

Yelp
One of the better Chinese in Eugene area simple wok fried good food and family sized portions. I would highly recommend this to anyone trying to stay away from the Traditionally Americanized Chinese food(which when I'm in the mood for I love so that was not a slam at all.)
google avatar

Kole L.

Yelp
Nice service, poor quality food. Both dishes we ordered we not up to par on taste. Would recommend another business in town !
google avatar

Hana N.

Yelp
Usually go here to order the duck egg noodle soup, but this time I wanted to try something new. I tried the creamy egg and beef baked rice and it was pretty good. But it's a huge portion, probably fit to share with 3-4 people and I feel they put too much soy sauce so it was salty. Unless you prefer a saltier taste then this dish is perfect for you!
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
My favorite of the chinese restaurants in the block away from campus. Spring house is relatively new and is the only one that boasts roast duck and live fish as well as an assortment of handmade chinese puddings, and desserts. They also have milk tea and avocado smoothies. I brought my mom here and we had a fantastic meal. Me and the Roomie have also gotten a whole fish steamed for us (ahmazing but so expensive). I generally stop by when I'm craving duck (duck noodle soup yum). They do a great sizzling tofu hot pot and some really good soups. The eggplant is also amazing. It's definitely the better than both maple garden or east meets west, the ingredients are really fresh and they boast a super authentic menu. Love it, so glad it openeddd!!!

Googley E.

Yelp
Don't even think about it. We got takeout from Spring House twice over a two-year period since our favorite Chinese restaurant, Jade Palace, closed when the family who owned it retired. Never again. Horrible chow mein with soggy noodles and tons of gravy (since when does chow mein have gravy?). Sweet and sour chicken with--you guessed it--soggy instead of crisp breaded chicken that had been sitting in sauce for too long. Pork fried rice that was nearly charred because it had probably been sitting in some heating unit for who knows how long. In fact the entire meal tasted as if it had been sitting in a hot oven for a couple of hours. Apparently "fresh" is a word this place has never heard of.
google avatar

Doreen S.

Yelp
I really don't get why people write not so great reviews about this restaurant. There's not a ton of excellent Chinese restaurants in this town, and if you need Chinese you really need to try this place. I see pretty much the same owners/workers there, SO polite, nice, friendly, really wanting to do their best. They're fast unless there's a ton of orders in the queue. Great ingredients, hand chopped. Their bbq pork is better than any where I've been and I think they do it themselves. Huge menu. I suppose some people would complain the chow me in is oily, it's probably supposed to be that way, and it's not terrible; it's tasty!
google avatar

Theron H.

Yelp
I give them a 4.5/5 stars overall. They definitely stand as one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Eugene area. Situated between a Thai restaurant and hair salon, this place is easy to miss, but the lively interior takes you away from the busy streets just outside. The counter has photos of most dishes on their menu, but luckily they have paper on-hand menus to fully look over the extensive list. My party ended up splitting an order of crap puffs, lunch special of roast duck and BBQ pork fried rice, and a plate of Singapore noodles with beef. Everything was quite good. The crap puffs, while a bit overdone, had a delightful filling and good side of sweet and sour sauce. The duck was wonderful; roasted with the bone and skin still on and sitting in a small pool of its juices. It was cooked perfectly and made even better with a given side of (maybe) spicy plum sauce. The pork fried rice was quite good as well, with an abundant amount of great grilled pork. Combined with some of the run-off from the neighboring duck, and it made for a good mix. The Singapore noodles were a tasty gathering of slighty curry flavored noodles with an assortment of grilled veggies and beef. It was difficult not to wolf it down in public. Overall, the staff was wonderful and the food was a hit. This easily makes for one of the best of its kind for the area.

Yelp
Excellent food, good services, will be back with my family and friends The short rib was especially good

Yelp
I love this place. It has a friendly staff, good prices, generous portions and authentic food. We are regulars here and I have never been disappointed. The creamy, egg, beef fried rice is my personal favorite. Though at this point I have has almost everything on the menu. I have a buddy who comes in almost every week. Definitely the best Chinese food in Eugene.
google avatar

Marry Clair N.

Yelp
Yumm. I always enjoy my food here. I'd give it 5 star but I do feel like the cost is a little to high. I always end up spending about $70 each time I go.

Kate B.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!!! Great lunch prices, amazing variety, super fresh, authentic. I come here quite a lot.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
This place is awesome. They give you a MASSIVE amount of food, and a very authentic menu. The owners cook the food, and older Chinese man and his wife, and they are both very kind. Their staff are great as well. The food has a very genuine and "home style" quality to it. Many Chinese students eat here, so take that as a sign of authenticity. Often you may see slabs of pork or roasted duck hanging from a hook by the kitchen window. Their menu is enormous, and almost all of their lunch specials are great. I've eaten here about 40 times (since I'm always on campus, this is one of my top picks). My recommended dishes: 1. Singapore Noodles 2. Fujian Chow Mei Fun 3. Twice Cooked Pork 4. Hong Kong Pork Fried Rice There are many other interesting dishes as well, so check this place out.

Jamie P.

Yelp
I'm always glad to find authentic Chinese restaurants in Eugene, and particularly one that specializes in Cantonese food, because there are so few. I ordered their BBQ pork and pan-fried noodles, which were both delicious. Their prices are slightly higher, but portions are large. The noodles were easily enough food for three. I'm excited to try other items from their menu next time!
google avatar

Micayla K.

Yelp
Got take out. The food was very low quality. I couldn't even finish it. I got the general tsos chicken was mostly just salty instead of having flavor and there was barely any meat. It was mostly connective tissues. And there was random stuff in the soup it was in like noodles and unidentifiable things. The fried rice was also kinda scary like that. I also tried the Mongolian beef and it was just salt with mild flavor. Really disappointed.
google avatar

Esther K.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Got a dinner combo with crab puffs, pork fried rice, and general tsao's chicken. Crab puffs had a weird fishy off taste to it, like they were expired. Rice was bland and tasteless. Chicken was ok. Portion sizes are large and it's pretty cheap but it's not worth it imo. Will not be returning back.
google avatar

Elnaz T.

Yelp
This place is really good. Big portions, pretty fair price and nice people. Their food tastes good too. I think compare to other places on campus, it's literally worth it to get lunch from this restaurant.
