Eden East Will Remain Open Despite Springdale Farm’s Impending Closure | Eater Austin

"I learned that the beloved urban farm Springdale Farm recently announced it will be closing this summer; owners Glenn and Paula Foore will operate the farm until the end of June, and the farm—opened in 2009—remains part of the East Austin Urban Farm Tour and will continue its scheduled Wednesday and Saturday farmers-market stands until then. The Foores were initially denied a conditional-use permit for outdoor entertainment but received approval two months later in 2015, and with the sale of the property the farm's future now depends on the new owners and on efforts to maintain a portion of the land as a working farm." - Erin Russell

Huge selection of goods. Our family has been doing well for the day. Lots of fun to go, I can't stop to pick up my favorite plants. Love their mom and they are really colorful. But a little pricey.

New Life Homes provided outstanding kitchen remodel service with their Amarillo remodeling experts and innovative design solutions perfectly. The smooth building process and clear communication made everything easy and stress free for our family. Jon and Kasey were great to work with and we loved their entire team's dedication to perfection.

I had the pleasure of organizing a hay ride for about 20 guests with the kind and organized folks at Springdale Farms. The whole process was top notch, from my first email and call to checking in the day of, to our driver and camp helper on the night of the hay ride...all the steps were smooth and easy and Jackie, John and Clayton were so pleasant and so good at their jobs. Thank you all three. This hayride is really quite spectacular. The hay carts are very nice and the hay (straw actually) is hypoallergenic and clean. We enjoyed being driven through the peaceful and beautiful farmland as the sun was beginning to set. When we arrived at our campsite, at dusk, it was like a scene from a movie. 2 large bonfires already blazing, lanterns all around and on the tables, plenty of tables, and all of our belonging and food was delivered separately and was there ahead of us. We were all so impressed. My group of friends disembarked easily from the hay wagon (and getting on was fairly easy, too) and began the fun. We roasted hot dogs and s'mores with the professional, long roasting forks we rented from the farm. We were able to set out our food and had convenient trash receptacles and a portable restroom at our disposal. It was a beautiful night for late October and although we were prepared for it, we were not cold or bothered by bugs. We ate, laughed, sat around the bonfires, sang classic camp songs and played word association games. We also each got a pumpkin as we departed. They even provided tips on how to make the most of your event, etc. And, the per person price is very fair and reasonable. And the apple cider, cider donuts and brownies we purchased as part of our hay ride were so delicious and fresh! Don't hesitate, get a group together and do this! We had so much fun, we are planning to do it again next year. And BTW, please support Springdale Farms by shopping there when you can. We must help preserve this 76 year old gem, the last farm in Cherry Hill. Thank you, Springdale Farms, for a well organized, beautiful and well thought out hay ride event.

I visited in May 2024 and I am from Ohio, was looking for homegrown strawberries. I called ahead and they said they have strawberries, $10/quart. I also asked what other produce they had that was homegrown. They said kale, beets, lettuce, onions or leeks. I didn't know what to expect when I visited on a Sunday. They had plenty of parking. You could see the vegetable fields and plastic mulch raised beds which was nice to show you that they do grow their own things. You walk in and are instantly pleased with the beautiful flowers and garden essentials. Definitely a garden center with everything you need: plants, herbs, pots, flags, gloves, shovels, indoor plants, cactus, succulent, trailing fences, etc. Then you walk further into the building to see a produce section, baked good, flower bunches, frozen section, jams, honey, pretzels, crackers, pies, etc. They do have produce homegrown and it's noted with a sign.

We discovered this gem about a month ago and have been going ever since. Today the bakery staff helped us get fresh apple turnovers which are simply the best I’ve ever had! Shop here ! They are kind, hardworking people who have a lot to offer , have everything in decor, plants , treats and produce . You won’t regret it!

Yelp
A few days ago, I had an accident! I can't express how grateful I am for your unsolicited help after my car, redesign your parking lot. I was absolutely horrified, embarrassed and frightened. Without hesitation you were there to see if I needed any medical attention. You brought me a chair and asked if I wanted any water. During all this, my gas tank, which was compromised, was pouring gas out onto the parking lot. The officer doing his job, jumped into "what happened?". The fire department came, did their job very well, but never approached me as you did. Your kindness and heartfelt care truly helped to give me a feeling of warmth during a truly stressful time. You are a kind soul! John, you were a Godsend. Very grateful ... Debbie

Yelp
Im from texas.. and we don't have apple cider donuts around.. the company I work for is up here and the director + many other local coworkers mentions these donuts a couple of years ago... so I've literally been wondering how these things taste and the first bite was like.. okay it's a donut and it's good but by the end of it I wanted another. The cinnamon and sugar.. the fluffiness.. just yum!! Plus they don't taste super fried like other donuts. I didn't visit the farm but hoping I can if I'm around during the season for some fresh ones!
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
I'm suporting this local family owned farm because they could easily sell the land for development. They epitomize JERSEYFRESH. You will spend a little more here and I only buy the in season things like corn, tomatoes, fresh herbs, zucchini, string beans that they grow themselves. You can buy other produce as well for convenience . They also feature home canned items , honey, pies, and starter plants depending on the season. It's right from the fields or another farmers fields like the bluettes or peaches. You will taste the difference.
google avatar

Vivian R.

Yelp
I've gone to Springdale farm market a few times now and it's always very well stocked and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful! Their jersey tomatoes run about $3.75/lb, however, they sell "seconds", which are tomatoes that aren't pretty enough to sell at full price and you can get a whole bin for only $12! I also bought a blueberry crumble pie from here last week, and it was amazing! The pie was only $13 which was super cheap. I will continue coming back to this market because they have such a great selection, and their produce quality is the best in the area!

Yelp
How have I never reviewed Springdale Farms before?!! My good friend took me here for the first time many moons ago. They have a ton of homemade baked goods, dips, vegetables and fruits ETC! Also, beautiful decorations and unique gifts. You can do seasonal corn mazes / hay rides, etc., too. They are a little pricey, but like the saying goes, you get what you pay for !

Yelp
Local farmer market Apple cider doughnuts and rest of bakery items always delicious also has lots of outside and inside holiday decor carries some local honey

Yelp
Great staff/service! Besides the instagrammable moments, lots of great items to purchase & eat!

Yelp
I love stopping by Springdale farm market for many reasons, and the cider doughnuts I picked up today sealed the deal. I had seen on the website open at 8am. I called to double check that if I arrive exactly at 8am would the doughnuts be ready.. and happily I was told yes! They were piping hot and beyond delicious. My coworkers and I devoured them. Besides tasty doughnuts (& pies!!), the produce here is absolutely wonderful. Fresh picked from their farm right outside the door, great variety too. They have several different types of cheeses and other grocery items too. I've come here to pick up my pumpkins for carving, plants and flowers for gifts and all the other knickknacks in between. The workers here are pleasant & friendly. The store is kept clean and easy to navigate. Its an easy location to get to and I highly recommend it.

Mike G.

Yelp
We bought a rather expensive apple cider pound cake. The cake was very small and completely tasteless. The cake did nor taste like a pound cake or have any flavor.

Yelp
Great selection of herbs and flowers. Very clean and organized. Very helpful and quick checkout.

Yelp
Super cute farmers market. Great selection of plants and a nice little produce section as well. Smelled lovely. Knocking off one star because the cashier who worked today chose to use my credit card to dig the dirt out from under her nails. Absolutely revolting.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Great bakery....however, they don't put dates on anything. Claim everything is fresh daily, but clearly I have purchased pies that were not fresh baked...pie roulette...great if get fresh, really expensive if you get day or 2 old :( for top $$$

Maureen G.

Yelp
Springdale Market has always been great but the addition of the pumpkin picking hayrides is wonderful! We brought the family and everyone had a happy experience!

Yelp
Beautiful garden center with high quality plants (this ain't your Walmart 99 cent plant option). The center has also a home and garden decor section with beautiful gazing balls, memorial stones, wind chimes, feeders, etc. Surprisingly, they have a small grocery section where they have their baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetables and cheese also available for purchase. We grabbed some tasty sea salt crackers from di Bruno Brothers (a Souf Philly standout from the Italian Market) to go with some fancy cheeses. Great friendly staff and they have strong healthy teens who can help with loading and unloading any hefty items.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I want to start this by saying I've been going to Springdale for most of my life but no more. The staff who works there is so rude. They now closed at 6 (what business closes at 6 but okay) and I went in with my mom at around 5:55 only to be screamed at for coming in so late. While we were in there the cashier, a young girl with red hair, proceeded to complain to her partner about the customers - in front of us. Her anger that "it was 1 minute past 6" was tangible and noticeable through the many times she said that sentence and rolled her eyes. Look I get it. You close at 6 - but have some grace for people. People have bad days and I will extend that to this young girl but I also want Springdale to know that they should be extending that to their customers too. Be kind to people. No one wants to feel like they are inconveniencing anyone so please Springdale employees treat others with kindness. With this being said I plan on not returning and telling my family and friends to do the same because I do not support any place that treats it's customers the way I was treated and the way I witnessed the employees treating others. The one star is for hope Springdale will change. Do better Springdale.

Yelp
Really cute place to bring kids! We came on a Saturday at around 11am and it wasn't crowded, but by the time we left around 2pm it was getting hard to find a parking space. We took the hayride, picked out some pumpkins (not the most bountiful field I've seen, but it is the end of the season), and then did the corn maze ($10). The corn maze is a little sad looking, a lot of the corn is wilting and you can easily see other parts of the maze. This could also be due to it being the end of the season. You do miss that "lost" feeling when the corn is over your head and you can't see anything around you. But it was a fun "maize", and we had a good time navigating it!
google avatar

Yelp
If you love pie, and who doesn't, then this will be your personal slice of heaven. Nice place. Lots of garden stuff and plants, but it's the little grocery store in the back that's so wonderful. The best place to pick up your holiday pies. Try the apple caramel. It is absolutely fantastic!!!
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
One of my go to places for produce direct from the farm. Although some items are overpriced, they have it all from seasonal decorations, baked goods, dressing, dips, produce and kids parties. This place has it going on for your one stop shopping. In the fall they have good pumpkins that come right on the ground they grew on.
google avatar

Alanna B.

Yelp
I visited the Springdale Farm Market for the first time recently, and I found that I do enjoy shopping here for my produce. At times prices may be slightly higher, but there is nothing that can compare to buying local and local produce. Had their blueberry pie - it was alright. I think the Pie Lady Café in Moorestown makes a better blueberry pie. This had more goop than actual berries. Purchased some peaches and other produce which were juicy and crisp.

Meredith K.

Yelp
Love their cider donuts! Great pies for holidays too!! Order them every year for thanksgiving

Christina M.

Yelp
I love this place! They have a great selection of plants, gifts and also baked goods! It is the only nursery where I have found my beloved ivy geraniums. They have knowledgeable staff to assist you with choosing the right plants, and advising you on how to care for them, where to plant them (based on light, soil, and shade needs, how to trim them, etc.....

Donna M.

Yelp
Big farm, lots of fresh produce, good prices. Also lots of plants and garden accessories.
google avatar

BF D.

Yelp
Great pies! Order ahead for the holidays. Prices are up there. Flavor options abound! Only wish they were organic.

Diane K.

Yelp
Not only do I love Springdale Farm Market... but my niece who lives in Radnor, Pa... says she's been to many farmers markets and hands down, Springdale has the BEST CIDER DONUTS!! Every time we go we bring them 2 dozen. Forget about the corn and tomatoes- BEST IN south Jersey!!

Sadie G.

Yelp
I refuse to ever return to this place. The employees are so rude. We are paying customers and don't want to be treated horribly when at the store. When I was in the store 2 people came up to me to warn me about a young women at the cashier (I think someone else talks about her in their review) who was especially rude. That says something if 2 people felt inclined to warn about her. I saw her yell at an older couple just trying to get groceries. Absolutely horrible. I will not be going again and I plan on telling everyone I know to stop going. There stuff is "okay" but not the best in South Jersey and I'm not willing to be treated horribly. Johnson's Farms in Mount Laurel is great and has wonderful workers. There are many other farms in SJ that have good food and the employees respect their customers. If I could give Springdale less than 1 star I would.

Yelp
Super cute farm that has everything for fall activities! Loved the farmers market with the fresh veggies and the donuts are amazing. They have great pumpkins and other fall decor. It's really a one stop shop! Can't wait to go back soon.
google avatar

Donnie M.

Yelp
The most local place to get local veggies and fresh pies and cookies. Good selection of cheeses, dry soups, sauces and Severino pasta. Employees have always been friendly and helpful. In midst of getting green beans an employee said if I waited a few minutes she could head in the back and bring out fresher ones she was gonna brink out eventually anyway. Now that's fantastic customer service. We went to the flashlight corn maze last weekend and while it's I'm sure super fun for kids my gf and I enjoyed wandering the maze in the dark also. We will be hitting up the pumpkin picking/hayride soon also.

Yelp
I just visited Springdale Farm market for the first time tonight. I arrived 10 minutes before closing in order to procure some local honey that is hard to find and I was able to track some down there. Upon entry I realized that this place is amazing! I didn't want to spend too much time browsing as I knew the doors were closing and I didn't want to hold anyone up. I mentioned that to the young kid cleaning up and he sweetly responded "oh no! Take all the time you need! Welcome! " When checking out, the other young individual was just as nice and happily chit chatted with me about the grapes I was buying and how great they are. I have to say, that it was, Wait for it, BREATHTAKING to interact with teenage boys that were so charismatic and welcoming into a store that they had no vested interest in - Yes, I asked, they were not family or related in any way. I was sure to let the owner (Who was Just as nice, by the way,) know how pleased I was before leaving. This place speaks for itself. It's just gorgeous inside, But I think it's really extra special to know that the staff makes it that much better! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I only frequent this place during the fall for the "fall activities" aka pumpkin picking, hayride, and corn maize. Don't come here thinking it's comparable to Linvilla because it definitely isn't. This is a much smaller farm and more accessible than most other farms in the region. It is an ideal location as it is near 295 and the bridges. A few years ago, their onsite parking was a bit of miss for me. The spaces were extremely tight and of course my car got a dent from a door hitting my car. They do offer parking across the street which isn't that full. But walking across springdale might be a deal breaker to slow walkers (seniors, children, etc). This year i saw they kinda began renovating their parking lot. I'm not sure if they are going to add asphalt or keep it "farm chic" by leaving dirt and rocks..i hope not because its just too dusty and muddy. They definitely need a better system regarding buying tickets for the hayride and maze. Perhaps add a cash only line outside of the building ? We waited almost 20 minutes for tickets. The line for the hayride wasn't that bad either. They have fall/festive boards where you can pose for pictures like most places. The tractor driver was pretty nice and let my group take photographs sitting on the tractor. The pumpkins were plenty. The corn maze was actually very difficult this year. SO much so, that we quit half way through! But a person in my group was sick, so walking around in the sun wasn't her idea of fun. The market was, as everyone mentioned, a bit pricey. I wanted to get a pie/cake for my family but felt unjustified in spending almost $5 more. Yes, i would love to support local, farm fresh places, but times are tough for everyone! They offer corn maze at night too, which i think would be fun with a group. probably even more difficult!

Yelp
This Farm Market been around for such long time, apparently doing well. Yes, nice baked goods, but because of its location, their prices are little steep, 1/2 a pound cake was like 7.00-9.00 , but I have Had the, they are delightful, but as last yelper, same , you get your moneys worth so many other places. The produce, is ehh.so so... . Location, location, that is why they are doing well-Still.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Nice local farmers market, but the produce is pricey. They also have cute knickknacks, but their best offering is their bakery. This place has the BEST apple cider donuts that I have ever had, and every one of their freshly-baked foods is amazing (and totally worth the calories).
google avatar

Luba P.

Yelp
Super packed on Saturday, as to be expected, so you'd think they would have more people working on registers. You have to buy tickets for the hayride ($3.75) ahead of time, which is not convenient or efficient with everyone confused which line to go in. Also, the staff seemed annoyed and not very happy, I supposed due their inefficient system. In addition, who charges $4.01??? And then looks annoyed when we don't have a penny on us and was about to give us $.99 in change...really??? ( by the way the other line did not charge tax so they only payed $3.75...once again..what?) Despite all of that the hayride and pumpkin patch itself were really nice. It $.79 per pound of pumpkin and there were lots of varieties! There is also a corn maze that seemed really big, and fun to try. There is also a store that has Halloween decorations, snacks, baked good and coffee onsite. Overall nice family place but defintely needs some streamlining!
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Nice farmers market, but can get a bit pricey for the produce...The pies looked great too, but again overpriced... If you want organic try another farmers market or Wegman's organic section...
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
My family likes to shop here. It's BIG, and there seem to be a lot of choices. It's also a charming store. But the bakery and cheese items are expensive. The baked goods were tasty, but there are cheaper options that are just as good.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Check out their garden center as well. Like the food, it's a little expensive, but they have a nice selection out there.
google avatar

Christian S.

Yelp
I kept hearing how Springdale Farm Market was the place to go for fresh produce, and good pies. I decided to take a ride to Springdale Farm Market last weekend. The reason for this trip was to get a Christmas Tree; and pie of course. I was a little, ok, really disappointed with the selection of trees and price. I was able to find a great tree at a decent price across town. The Peach crumble pie was a tad bit expensive, but the taste made it so much easier to swallow. I am confident I will go back, I need to try more of those pies.
google avatar

Sara V.

Yelp
I love Springdale. Plain and simple. Yes, it's a little bit pricey, but their produce and pies are FABULOUS. We came here a few weeks ago for a hayride, coffee, and pie tasting. The best day ever! The staff is quite friendly and I love the feeling when I walk in there. It makes me want to be so domestic and bake all day. I prefer Springdale vs. their competitor in Medford. The prices, as I mentioned, are a little high but not nearly as high as their competitors. Some items are cost equivalent to the super market or the Asian Market!
google avatar

V L.

Yelp
It's good if you're in a pinch and need something quick. The pies are hit or miss. Their pumpkin pie was a total disappointment for Thanksgiving, it was so bad we threw it in the trash.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
Holy moly. It's a good thing that we live as far away as we do, because the apple cider donuts at Springdale Farm are LEGIT. The other baked goods are decent, but I'm willing to give this place four stars based on the donuts alone. While we did pick up some pretty nice looking pumpkins (fair prices compared to what we've paid in Northern NJ), the donuts really were the standout buy of the day. Weather was bad, but it looked like there were hay rides and other fall themed activities for families to take advantage of. Our only regret is only picking up half a dozen donuts....

Yelp
I LOVE Springdale Farms! I love that they're a local independent family owned business in Cherry Hill. They offer fresh produce, gifts, baked goods, things for your garden (plants, tools & decor) & the most delectable PIES! I'm not even a huge fan of pies, but oh Springdale Farms, you've turned me into a believer. They're crispy crumb toppings are perfect with the wonderfully sweet inner fruity delights. Not too sweet & just right for me. We'll order some holiday pies before they close for the winter season. We love that they offer fun things for the community like pumpkin picking, hayrides, scarecrow making, holiday crafts, & a corn maze! We've only experienced just a bit so far of what Springdale Farms have to offer & we're looking forward to the spring & summer at Springdale Farms!

Evan H.

Yelp
I've been going back and forth about whether or not I should write a review because this is not something that I normally do but within the past 24 hours I've seen a lot of people post about their negative experiences here and I feel like I should say something. Yesterday was not the first time I've been treated poorly here but it was the worst and last time I will be treated poorly by Springdale Market. I refuse to come back they don't value their customers at all and if they do they don't show it. The lady checking me out kept complaining about they were closing at 6 and people were coming into the store she even went out of her way to yell ay people. I get out of work at 5 and usually rush over to get there by 5:45-6 to be able to get my food. People have jobs you could give them a break and not scream at them. A simple "We close at 6 so please be fast" goes a long way. Not "ugh why are people coming in here?" or screaming "WE CLOSE IN 1 MINUTE" then acting all annoyed does more damage than the workers think. I will not come back here. My entire family and extended family live in the area and after I called them yesterday they will not return either. Not worth it.

Yelp
My 100th review! I thought hard about what business to feature for my 100th, and wanted to make sure it was some place that I love. So, my fellow Yelpers, I give you, the SPRINGDALE FARM MARKET! I absolutely love this place. It is a true, working farm with much of their produce coming directly from the farm when in season. But this farm does not just sell great produce, it also has a wonderful seasonal home goods/decorative section, garden décor, flowers, herbs, vegetable plants, and seeds to plant your own farm (something I have been experimenting with these last 2 years) and a bakery. My God, the bakery!! When you walk towards the back of the indoor market, you start to smell the delicious cakes, pies and other baked goods. If you're lucky, they will have some apple cider donuts cut up for sampling. These donuts are amazing! And let's not forget the PIE OF THE MONTH! We have purchased various pies of the month to bring to summer picnics or other parties, and occasionally get one of their more savory pies for dinner. These are major indulgences, but worth every calorie. Other features include a small grocery type area, which has pastas (fresh and dried), sauces, honeys, fresh flowers, and other items, all of which I have seen have come from other local businesses. Local business supporting other local businesses - I love it! There is also a small wine selection, again, all from local wineries. This area has a separate cash register, and sometimes you have to flag down someone to ring you up. During the different seasons, I know they have different events for families with kids, such as hay rides, a corn maze, and an Easter egg hunt. I have not participated in these events, but I keep saying I'm going to bring my Godchildren.... THIS year, I will, indeed! If you're lucky, you'll get a glimpse of the farm cat, a really cute gray/brown tabby. He's a little aloof towards the coming and going customers, but if you approach him, he will let you pet him. As other reviewers have mentioned, Springdale Farm Market can be on the slightly more expensive side; however, this food snob believes you get what you pay for when it come good quality food. I never mind spending more money to get a good, healthy product. Whenever I meet someone who has just moved to Cherry Hill, Springdale Farm is one of the first things I recommend they check out. This business offers a nice escape in the middle of a very busy town.
google avatar

Meredith J.

Yelp
We visited for some Pumpkin picking. The per pound price was a little steep but you are paying for the atmosphere as well. It was around $3 per person for the hayride. Pumpkins were already pulled off of the vine and sticker'ed but they had a really good selection. The donuts were delicious, but not warm, and the store was very cute.
google avatar

Kchi S.

Yelp
I really like this place! I like that it is limited a bit so what they do they do pretty well. The people at checkout have always been nice to me and they make it a point to engage me in some way- wish me a nice holiday or joke with me about how it is really raining hard out now, etc. They just have this country down home vibe. It really has that working farm thing going for it so I don't mind that the produce is a bit more costly than other places but have to say the pies are a tad to high for me to purchase them here. Cheaper to make those myself. All in all it is a decent place with a friendly atmosphere and a nice break from huge big box stores. In and out!

D P.

Yelp
Very expensive hay ride to pumpkin patch . The ride itself was about $4.50 per person and the pumpkins were $.79/lb ! Supermarket pumpkins are way cheaper Guess we payed extra for the experience....

Joanna B.

Yelp
No complaints i love this place...........just actually did the flashlight maze not that easy to do lol! I go here a lot! Very happy with this establishment!

Rosemary G.

Yelp
Springdale Farms is my go to place for fresh produce. I love bringing my kids here for all of the fun fall activities and Easter egg hunt hayrides, the lines for the hayrides can be long, but it is definitely worth it, the experience is great and lines for other fall activities at others places such as Johnsons Farm in Medford have been just as long or longer in my experience. I shop here weekly for produce and delectable desserts, only the best for my kids! Staff has always been quite friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs, and want to assist the customers. A great place to go to not only enjoy great food, but experience a nice relaxing farm and garden center in the middle of a busy town.

Love this place. So much stuff. Produce and plants are so fresh and right off the farm. Their home and garden stuff is so nice. Prices are really good for the quality and the staff is fantastic. Found my new place
