Romantic Oasis in Spring House The Spring House is undoubtedly one of the area's finest dining experiences. Its ambiance is truly superb, with a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for a romantic getaway. The wine list is impressive, and the staff's expertise is exceptional. The food is consistently delicious, making for a memorable evening. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a lovely night out, the Spring House is an excellent choice. Its combination of atmosphere, wine, and cuisine makes it a standout destination.

I used to love this restaurant but has not been the same since the fire. Took 1.5 hours to get entree, starter portions are very small, bone in pork chop was cooked about as well as a hockey puck. Server did everything he could do and comped it and offered free desserts which we declined due to ticket times being crazy. This was at a 5:45 pm as well with the restaurant not even full. Don’t waste your money.

Google
A true gem of a restaurant on the lake. They regularly change the menu based on the season, which is a very nice touch. This is a great atmosphere for a group gathering or for date night. Check out the cobia fish served with a curry purée and butternut squash along with bok choy.

My husband & I enjoy great food & customer service. We made reservations to sit at the Chefs Counter. From the moment we arrived we were treated graciously & felt welcomed. Once we sat at the counter & met Chef Pete McKenny & his team we knew we were in the right place. They all smiled and greeted us with sincere & friendly hellos! As we looked over the menu our waitress Sonya arrived with more smiles & greetings. What a lovely first impression! Everything on the menu sounded amazing and we couldn't decide. So my husband told Chef to pick a small bite, an appetizer and an entree for us to share. We started with the kimchee cabbage pancake..Amazing! Then the chick pea panisse which was served with smoked tomato jam..Also Amazing! And for our entree the team chose the hickory grilled veal chop. I must mention the Chef De Cuisine Andrew Ellis cooked it perfectly! It was so delicious, so perfect! For dessert they served the lemon square & blueberry blonde. To die for! Just a fabulous experience all around. From the moment we entered the door. We left feeling as though we had made new friends. We can't wait to go to the Rum Tasting Dinner on April 17th.

Google
I had the soft shell crab dinner which was delicious. It had a light breading on it sitting on a bed of rice, celery and onions I believe. Our server Trey was fantastic and gave us honest feedback when asking about menu selections. The view was stunning, especially at sunset.

OMG! A must if you’re in the area. Food was excellent, great bourbon selection, and exquisite outdoor seating view.

Yelp
Went there for a family outing and had a nice time. We were immediately seated. Prices were moderate. The place is nicely designed. I had the wings and a salad. The wings were ok but the salad was hard to cut and eat. The service was very nice. I also tasted the flatbread pizza and it was fine.

Sandra G.

Yelp
Good food the service was good. Excellent restaurant. I will return. Nice ambiance. Nice drive from Birmingham

Yelp
The fact they charge a 4% Co-op "tax" bothers me. And the fact that no one seemed to be able to properly explain what it is when asked. Seems a little fraudulent they can add a fee arbitrarily at the end of a meal. Meal was okay. The crab cake appetizer looked like it was processed. Tortellini pasta was very tough. Drinks were excellent.

Yelp
As always they did not disappoint! They are serving in another restaurant while the fire damage is repaired. All of our food was wonderful! Service was excellen

Yelp
We went to the Spring House on Valentines, no reservations but yet they were able to seat the two of us at the bar. I can't remember what he had but I had the Dove. It was a special I believe. The atmosphere is charming.

Yelp
The Springhouse is back! We had dinner there their first night of opening and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant has been fully restored has some new furniture and several new items on the menu. McKenzie was our waitress and she is phenomenal! She covered every detail and made sure we were completely happy. They have some new craft cocktails which are wonderful. My wife had the vegetable plate, the cream corn was outstanding! I had the chicken which was juicy and moist. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate torte with raspberry coolis and strawberries and delicious whip cream. Don't forget to try the new after dinner cocktail with Kahlúa and coffee. It will knock your socks off. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Let me begin by saying, if you go to the Springhouse for a dining experience, take out a mortage. This is a very special place on all levels which rates a 5 out of 5-star rating from me. Special occasions, and event. Drinks: They know how to make a drink. They are $18.00 each but worth the money. The wines are also good. Service: Our waiter was perfect. Knew his stuff, observant, smart, and allowed the meal to be the entertainment. The Food: The menu was limited with is a plus for me. Four folks and everyone ordered something different. The bread on the table was some of the best I have ever eaten in any restaurant. It came will soft wonderfully butter. My wife's pasta dish was GREAT. He cleaned her plate then took the break and wiped it cleaner. The Scallops were excellent. The beef with the potatoes were a perfect combination. The Cesar Salad was a bit disappointing but just because everything else was so good. The ambiance: This place is beautiful in every way. The view is spectacular. The quality of the plates, doors, silver wear and the list go on. This lovely place has my highest recommendation.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Had the cheese plate which was fine. My main dish was the clams it was awesome. The service was fine. Our server was not very dynamic. The hostesses were extremely nice. It's a beautiful restaurant inside. I couldn't really tell what the restaurant looks like on the outside because event tents were set up everywhere.

Yelp
Our last trip was very disappointing. It had been a few years since my last dinner there but remembered pricy but excellent dining. What a change. The setting is still cozy and trendy and the service still excellent but the food and selection are noticeably worse. Occasionally one gets a menu and nothing really looks like what you want. All six of us did that. The ladies decided on appetizers and the beets were good. The fried okra appetizer was just poorly fried okra. The tomato soup was good but that is good at home from a box. Two of us defaulted to the baked chicken breast which was cooked well but nothing to speak of. The halibut dish was very disappointing as my dining partner said he had never seen a piece of halibut so small. We did not have dessert. I will not be back until someone lets me the food is better.

Fritz A.

Yelp
Book reservation well in advance! Great food with beautiful view. Went to Sunday Brunch and it was delicious

Sherry L.

Yelp
This place is a gem hidden in rolling hills of green grass and lush tree line overlooking well kept stables with the lake in the distance. For landscape alone, it's a must see. Going there by boat is a treat. Pull into the slew and call ahead for the golf cart service to drive you to the front door. The menu changes, but my recent trip I had fresh okra with blue cheese cream and the seared scallop pasta. It was perfect.

Mary Peyton Z.

Yelp
10/10 such amazing service and food we went for my 30th birthday and I enjoyed time with family! The food was amazing and the atmosphere is so relaxing.

Rhonda J.

Yelp
Gorgeous setting and restaurant. Food is delicious and presentation is delightful. Always greeted and served with a smile.

Pressley P.

Yelp
Spring house is pretty and the service is great. The food is mediocre. It's a nice place to have dinner but the menu could be improved. Too heavy, buttery, bland. The tiramisu was great!

Joy D.

Yelp
Chef Pete knocks it out of the park again! We had a party of 11 and dined downstairs in the WellHouse (amazing views). The wonderful McKenzie was our server, and she was outstanding as always! Our cocktails were perfectly made (as well as very generous). The bread was wonderful as always. Everyone got different appetizers to pass around the table, and everything was ridiculously good. The BBQ shrimp toast was probably my favorite. My friend and I split the vegetable plate and added grouper, and it was by far the best I've ever had. Desserts were to die for, it was hard to pick a favorite, but I would have to go with the cobbler! A huge shout out to Chef Pete, McKenzie, and Stephanie for making our special night perfect!

Julia B.

Yelp
We tried to get a reservation for Mothers Day-- and were put on the wait list. Got a call for seats at the Chefs Table. Got another call the day before to make sure we would be there. We arrived early and our seats were waiting. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Enjoyed our experience. We will definitely return!

Lannah P.

Yelp
Awesome food, amazing ambiance and superb service!!! One of our favorite places!! We are glad that this place is close by.

Devora H.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! Who would have ever guess such a fantastic place would be tucked in the outskirts of A small town! This was the first of many surprise stops Jimmy planned for my birthday. I had no idea of where we were going but He told me I could dress up! How exciting! So I chose my little black dress and sequined heels :) When we drove up to the property a large windmill with Springhill identified it. Brink pavers led the way around a general store, large working tower clock (with windows so you can see the gears working) and around to a Gorgeous rock and shake "home". Lots of floor to ceiling windows on all sides and several tall chimneys. The home over looked beautiful fields and sunset. As we walked in we were greeted by the host who quickly took us to our seat. We were seated by a huge working rock fireplace that had old meat racks for roasting and a large black soup pot. Either side of he fireplace has an attached bread oven where the servers are constantly going to to retrieve hot fresh baked bread. It's large inside with a lot of seating but it feels so private! On the opposite side of the fireplace is an open kitchen. A small bar is to the left and begins the bar is more seating with two fireplaces. It looks like that area can be closed off by glass doors for private parties or opened for additional seating. The ceilings tower above and boast large rustic beams. Inside walls are rock and rustic wood. The decor is absolutely beautiful, rustic but elegant!! Our servers (there were so many who waited on us) were all quick and seemed to anticipate every want or need we had. They service excelled in so many ways! The plating is all hand made pottery pieces. Everything served is either grown, made or gotten local so menu changes with seasons. Did I tell you the even make their own butter and crackers?? Seriously! Melts in your mouth! We ordered fire roasted quail, served over fingerling potatoes with creamed pimento cheese on the bottom. Delicious! Our entrees were short ribs and mackerel served with a kale salad. The salad had grapefruit, purple onions, kale and a flavorful vinaigrette dressing. The meals were both exceptional and such a treat. Everything about our experience there was top notch from start to finish. Note: the have lots of outdoor activities we didn't do because it was dark. But they offer horse drawn carriage rides, horse back riding, canoeing, bike rides and more. All the grounds are manicured and designed to invite you to come in and stay a while. Important: reservations are highly encouraged.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and excellent food. However the chef messed up 50% of our orders. Still was good and would recommend

David H.

Yelp
Amazing place all around. Food, service and setting were all exceptional! Look forward to our next visit!

Amy G.

Yelp
For ten years we have been going to Springhouse to dine with our now 83 year old grandmother. It's always been our "happy place" as it is a beautiful structure set in a gorgeous location. We've always enjoyed the food and the cocktails are amazing. Service has been excellent too. Unfortunately our visit for the Sunday brunch was cut short just after our cocktails arrived when the chef/general manager came to our table and insisted we leave based on some unclear allegation regarding wait staff preferences. All four of us ladies couldn't understand what we had said or done to cause offense. He just wanted us gone and said we could contact corporate if we had any questions. Three of us have tried making contact and have gotten no response. So until we get this issue resolved we are afraid to go back even though we were invited to come back another time. Since our drinks were on the table I asked if we could at least finish them and was told emphatically "no" and to leave immediately. Needless to say we were traumatized.

Dianne R.

Yelp
Was so looking forward to dinner only to be greatly disappointed! Only reason I am not giving one star is our poor waiter tried! First our reservation was at 7:30 we didn't get served til 9:00. The menu is much smaller, not as many options. They had run out of scallops, ok it happens. Then my second cocktail was in a water glass because they ran out of highballs. They said they were out of the wine the others were drinking. Then he comes back with a bottle he "found". It was BAD! Tasted awful, smelled like vinegar! My pork chop, though the flavor was good, it was very undercooked and pink in the middle. Not sure what is going on, but its not the same place, not the same food, not the same service- very disappointed

Brian M.

Yelp
SpringHouse consistently delivers. Service is top notch, food is fresh and amazing and the ambiance is second to none. The rotating menu takes advantage of the local and seasonal flavors. I have never had a bad meal here - from starters to desserts, the most delicious food you will find in Alabama.

Tripp S.

Yelp
We went to spring house many times in the past always had a great time and it was reasonably priced , but we haven't been in a year probably and decided to go there the other night. They food was nothing to write home about , the service was excellent just when I pay over a $100 for me and my wife I expect complete satisfaction from the food, my wife got the veggie plate and it was just bland tasting , I got the chicken Mac and cheese and it's was a handful of noodles and a chicken wing on top WTF, 2 drinks and an appetizer. To me the food and the experience is not worth the money.

Pat R.

Yelp
I had the bone in Pork Chop it was prepared medium. It was juicy, tender and a wonderful flavor. The black eye pea and a chow chow type side made for the perfect meal. For dessert I had a rhubarb with a creamy lemon sauce. I always like to try some of the not so common desserts. It was amazing!

Don B.

Yelp
Great service, great atmosphere, surroundings and view, and great food even with the limited COVID menu. We highly recommend the SpringHouse.

Melissa P.

Yelp
Buckle up for the best brunch experience of my life. We sat on the outdoor patio, which is beautiful and rustic. It overlooks a pasture with horses - my favorite part of the experience. Our waitress was sweet as sugar. She was attentive without hovering. I started with a very delicious, rich Bloody Mary. We got the pimento cheese and deviled eggs as an appetizer. Both were lovely. The homemade bread and butter took the cake as far as appetizers go. My boyfriend literally was tasting the butter with a fork. I had the chicken which was moist with a crispy skin and my boyfriend had the duck, which he raved about. Our wait for the food would possibly have been annoying except that the environment was so great. I could have sat on that patio watching the horses for an eternity.

Yelp
SpringHouse is so good! Surprisingly, we have spent many summers on the lake and I have only been here 3 times. I think it's because SpringHouse has always been viewed as a very fancy place to eat. It is a modern, rustic, casual elegance type restaurant. There are multiple floors of dining space and a small bar-type area on the main floor. I would recommend making reservations beforehand. I ate here last night with family which prompted me to write a review. Pros: The building is very modern and the atmosphere is really cool. Parking is plentiful. The menu is short but everything on it is incredible. Basically, the food is wonderful. You are going to pay at least $30 for an entree but it is definitely worth it. The appetizers were very tasty and the desserts are even better. The cheesecake was so light but delicious. You have to try one of the after-dinner drinks. They are like dessert cocktails and worth every penny! Beautiful views as well. The master chef has been nominated for several awards and I'm pretty sure has been nominated for best chef in the south. The staff was very friendly, polite, welcoming, and knowledgable. So the only negative was from my experience last night... and it wasn't really a negative at all. I ordered the chicken and it was a tad undercooked on one side of one piece. I didn't eat it all and when the waiter took my plate, he noticed and made a comment. I told him it was fine because it was just that small section, and the rest was delicious. Our waiter immediately apologized, took the entree off our ticket ($39), and gave me a free dessert. That is top of the line, good customer service! Overall, we will definitely be visiting SpringHouse more often. I am disappointed we haven't gone here more in the past! A great choice for any occasion.

Jillian D.

Yelp
I am all about this! Beautiful decor, great food, beautifully decorated dishes. It is pure bliss.

L K.

Yelp
Beautiful stone building venue nestled in the woods by a lake with neatly groomed landscape and herb garden. Limited selection of menu but has seasonal changes. Very fresh ingredients. Bread is good and must try their water. Even recommend taking children on a nice day.

Sabrina A.

Yelp
Love this place! The food, atmosphere, service and wine selection is always perfection. Go here at least 3x times a month and when COVID hit we still did take out. The outside upper deck is perfect for a sunset dinner on a date night. Will always be coming back!

Chad B.

Yelp
This is an exceptionally beautiful restaurant. The grounds and building don't have anything comparable to it in this part of Alabama. Service was tops and my steak was incredible. The only thing keeping me from going five stars on this place is the upcharge on wine and the quality of some of the other dishes. A corkage fee is $25 but that is cheap compared to the upcharges on the simple wine list that they offer. Even at $25 for wine service it's worth bringing your own due to the fact of how proud they are of the wines on their list. All of our entrees were good. My steak was exceptional but it came at an exceptional cost. I paid $45 for a strip when I can get an equally, if not more, incredible rib eye for a little less in the Gump or Auburn. The other entrees were good but for the cost you can do better at some of the other fine dining establishments down the road. For Lake Martin there isn't any place finer than Spring House... but there are better values a few miles down I-85 in either direction.

Willie G.

Yelp
food was amazing and the only reason its not a 5 is price. Pay a lot for the surrounding.

.. Patrick Bateman ..

Yelp
Expensive. Small portions. Bland. Slow service. Did I say expensive? Not enough local menu offerings. It's on Lake Martin, but on the menu they only had fish from the sea... Ultimately the only reason this place is popular is because there's such a limited selection of restaurants on Lake Martin. They have too many hostesses. I think there were at least five the night we went and they were all just standing idly around the hostess stand. Lastly, if you're going to offer cornbread -- learn how to make it moist and palatable.

Jim Bob C.

Yelp
One of the top restaurants in the state. Perfect for a date night. Chef Rob McDaniel and his staff do a wonderful job preparing a fresh and seasonal fine southern dining experience. The front of house and waiters have always been very attentive and welcoming.

Bradley C.

Yelp
A better restaurant anywhere would be tough to find. An absolute gem for Lake Martin AND Alabama!! We have been here numerous times for both dinner and brunch. Never have we been disappointed. Very cool decor and ambiance. Excellent and attentive service. Food that rivals anywhere else I have eaten in the world. If you are trying to decide whether or not to give SpringHouse a shot or not, make the reservation and go. You can't go wrong from the cheese plates, boiled peanuts, pimento cheese, fried chicken, steak, fish, etc. SpringHouse and Chef Rob are top of the culinary affair for Alabama, the Southeast, and the nation.

Homi J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with beautiful sunset views. Food was very good. The pork chop was done well on a bed of sautéed cauliflower and a tangy sauce. Others has the chicken which was moist and on a bed of rice and mushrooms. The rice was salty and there should have been a few more mushrooms. The coconut cake was dense cake and felt a little dry though others liked it. On the whole a great experience except for our young waiter who was inattentive and a smart ass. Bar tender was very good and helpful get the Split the Check. Entres are $28 alacarte

Merideth D.

Yelp
Best place to eat on Lake Martin. Chef Rob McDaniel knows what's he's doing! Top notch service!!!!

Kristen B.

Yelp
We come to SpringHouse every kid free trip to the lake! It's so wonderful!!! No one ever wants to the house except to come here! The drinks and food are always delicious and we leave happy every time!!! Such a blast!!!

Gina A.

Yelp
Best fine dining option around. Housed in a beautiful facility where you can see grazing horses outside in the daytime and try and catch the sunset from the veranda in the evening. Menu has changed off and on over the years but what remains is spot on quality southern food. Perfect for a special occasion, romantic dinner or just a well prepared meal near Lake Martin.

Chrissy R.

Yelp
Spring house is a hit or miss. We've had to send back our food a couple of times and I HATE doing this. I wish they were more consistent. But much you can do when your options are slim, around the lake.

Gina B.

Yelp
Fresh farm to table menu. Chef Rob has few equals. Mixologists at the bar are creative and great conversationalists. Daniel is fabulous at everything, but especially pairing wines from the unique offerings from the cellar. Beautiful restaurant in beautiful surroundings at beautiful Lake Martin!

West H.

Yelp
Fine dining in the middle of nowhere! I love how Chef Rob finds ways to add interesting twists on adding bursts of citrus on things you would never expect.

Lindsay W.

Yelp
We enjoyed our experience here! Great food, ambiance and spirits! Great date place! Flavors of food were evident of the garden to table aspect.

Andy P.

Yelp
Rob, Sam & Will are the best at what they do and it shows. This is one of the best settings for a restaurant anywhere! An absolute must try for anyone who fancies the finer things!!!

John-Bryan H.

Yelp
The best, always! Been here dozens of time. Rob McDaniel is one of the best chefs in the South. He has awards to prove it!

Ken And Stephanie P.

Yelp
Great overall experience. We got the Alabama Gulf Shrimp and Pork Loin for entrees and loved it! Great wine selection and be sure to try the liver patte for an appetizer.

Mary R.

Yelp
Springhouse is overrated and way overpriced for Alabama. It's even more expensive than high end restaurants in Manhattan, New York, where rent and labor cost are really high. Nevertheless, I would not have cared about the exorbitant prices if the dinner was worth it. The steak was gristly and horrible, the pasta bolognese was bland and did not have enough shredded cheese and most of all, the pan seared fish was supposed to come with root vegetables and BRUSSEL SPROUTS! Guess what - I got 3 leaves of brussel sprouts that didn't even make one sprout! I sent them an email which they blatantly ignored. And all of this at New York prices or even more! Terrible!

Rick J.

Yelp
Phenomenal southern food. Best pimento cheese I've ever had. The pork chop was super good. Fun vibe. You can't find a better place anywhere near lake Martin.
