Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa

"So, tell us a little about this place—what's the first thing that gets your attention? Before you even step into the Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa, you're taken with the location of the place. This oceanside property just feels iconic, and with its 100-plus-year history, it's nothing short of that. Sounds like a lovely start. Who else is here?Travelers seeking the perfect Maine experience by the sea (and the not-at-all-overboard Americana design). It equally satisfies both the people who want adventures out on the water, and those who just want to get cozy inside. It's the ultimate family vacation destination, with something for everyone. Too good to be true! Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about your room.My family and I stayed in the Starboard Oceanfront Cottage, a four-bedroom dazzler that overlooked the ocean. Larger than what would usually be considered a cottage, it was chock-full of darling details like a wood floor, large front porch, and cheerful kitchen. So there's a lot of space to move about, which is nice. But if you're not in your digs, what is there to do?There are a ton of kids' activities and camps that can take the little ones off parents' hands for a few hours, and anything you could ever want to do on the water is offered here, including sailing, whale watching, and fishing. There's also a spa on site, for when you've had your fill of physical activity, and you just want to chill. Well, we're probably just going to chill immediately. How about room service, or the food on site in general? There are a few dining options at the hotel, but if you want something on the more formal side, 88 is an oceanfront spot that offers incredible seafood from the area. Perfect. So, anything stand out about other services and features? What do you really want to shout out? There's really just so much to do—there's a pool, and a ton of hiking around the resort. Also, if you're looking for a place to plan a family reunion, this is it. Duly noted! So, bottom line: worth it, and why?Absolutely. There's so much value in your stay. Not only are you surrounded by a beautiful setting, but the resort offers something for everyone." - Corbin Chamberlin

Accommodation: Top-floor Ocean view suite in original inn building||The Experience: Spruce Point Inn offers an unbeatable Maine coast location with stunning ocean views. Our spacious suite in the historic building provided the perfect retreat. The resort's amenities impressed us - we enjoyed both pools, spa services, hiking trails, and bicycles. There's something for every traveler.||Dining & Service: Food quality exceeded expectations with standout lobster benedict, fresh salads, and flavorful steak. The staff was exceptional - helpful, warm, friendly, and fun. Their genuine hospitality elevated our entire stay.||Areas for Improvement: Breakfast ran out of basics like bagels, which was surprising. Both restaurants close at 9 PM, leaving no late-night options for drinks or dining.||Value & Verdict: While pricey, the combination of stunning location, spacious accommodations, excellent food, and outstanding service justifies the cost. Despite minor drawbacks, Spruce Point Inn delivered an exceptional experience that captures coastal Maine hospitality perfectly.||Would I return? Absolutely. This resort creates lasting memories and makes you eager to come back.

My partner and I stayed at the Spruce Point Inn for the weekend, and honestly it was just okay. As many of the other reviews state, the "resort" is very dated. I think in its heyday it was amazing, however now it's quite run down. It felt more like a summer camp than a resort, truly. Although the buildings and amenities are rundown, the views on the property are gorgeous. And, the landscaping is beautiful. I could definitely tell they take pride in the land. If only they had the same attitude about the rest of the property... like, at the very least make sure the bike tires have air, so guests can actually use them! Our room was big, very clean, had a soaking tub, and had a balcony with a decent view, which was great. However, the room smelled very musty, the balcony screen door was broken off the track, and the bed...the bed was terrible! It was hard as a rock. We woke up both mornings with back pain. For the price of the room a night I don't think it was worth it. The service was overall good. I would like to note, there was a wedding the weekend we stayed there. The majority of the staff was working the event, which makes sense, however it takes away from the other guests. We ate at the Salty Stag many times during our stay and the wait was long, but our waitress was amazing. She was apologetic each time about the wait, very kind, and funny! Everytime we saw her on the property she remembered us and would ask how we were. I loved that! I had high hopes for the Spruce Point Inn, but unless some changes and updates are made, we probably won't be back again.

Very comfortable resort in a beautifull setting. Especially the spacious rooms and pool by the sea are top. Remarks about the wear and tear of the resort are exaggerated in my view. It has that nice English/old feeling that goes well with some missing paint here and there. It is not a 5 star new luxury resort in Vegas but that was not what we were looking for.

Overall, this is a nice place -- if you like hanging out with the families of toddlers. The amenities are decent, but as with so many of these old school resorts, their heyday is in the past, and some TLC would be helpful. It has a very nice feel but the number of children running around at 6:30am was notable. The pools were nice, especially if you like interacting with other people's children. The clay tennis courts were fun to play in, but be ready to do some maintenance yourself -- watering and weeding the courts was helpful keeping the dust and flora down. The service was okay. The bartender could clearly read a recipe but likely didn't really know how a cocktail was meant to taste, and taste that wine to make sure that it's still good before the waiter walks off. The room was nice. Big bathroom. Comfy beds, plenty of space, and a little patio with a view of the water. No complaints. And the view was great -- morning and evening were really magical with views across the sound. The forests and trails were really, really nice. Very alive and truly wonderful for a walk morning or evening. Absolutely walk through the forest if you go. A legit 4 out of 5. Probably closer to 5 stars for folks with kids.

My wife and I arrived in the evening and went to the Salty Stag for dinner. My fish and chips were soggy and my wife’s Cajun fish sandwich didn’t have any spice to it. The kitchen needs to change the oil in the fryer so food comes out with a crispy breading. They were out of the wine we ordered which happens. The entire staff has been outsourced to workers from the Caribbean. Not the local New England experience we were looking for. Out room for $600+/night was teeny tiny. It was up 2 flights of steep stairs. Ideal if your a mountain goat. My wife weighs 105lbs and I 160lbs. The bathroom was so small it could only accommodate 1 person at a time. For once I felt tall due to the low ceiling. The mattress was too soft and sagged in the middle. Not conducive to a good nights sleep. We went to the pool on the harbor and wanted to use the paddle boards. Sorry, they’re taken and we will have to wait. I suggested we use 2 kayaks since there were 4 or 5 sitting there. “Sorry but they’re Broken.” What I’m sure was once an inviting, cozy Inn has turned into a money grab by owners that have no affiliation or connection to the area or supposed spa experience.

Such a beautiful property and setting on the ocean. This was our second stay and we look forward to returning. Our room was super spacious and very clean. The staff is super helpful all throughout the resort. Our young children (4 and 7) LOVE all the amenities for kids on the property - game room, 2 pools, kayaks, outdoor play areas, nightly s'mores. The trolley stops here and goes into town as well.

Google
“Resort” is located with a beautiful view but only accessible by car with nothing in walking distance. Other than view resort is completely dated and needs a makeover. Skylight in room over bed allows light at 4am, furnishings old and not quaintly old. Advertises tennis in data, not needed but pics will show. Chose partial view as it was what was available, if you stood on your toes and leaned over railing u might see water.

Our family, husband and wife, with our 3 adult children, stayed in one of the Inn's bedrooms off the main lodge. It was perfect for us. Spacious, clean, airy and near all the resort's amenities. Bathroom was large as well. Any request we had for additional items was responded to in a timely and courteous manner.

Yelp
My wife and I spent a week at the resort. The resort is in a perfect location to enjoy the views of the bay as well as to travel into Boothbay Harbor for shopping and dining. The staff at the resort is well trained and very friendly. The complementary boat ride around the bay was very enjoyable. Having the bay side pool deck and dock closed for the duration of our visit was a disappointment. Another disappointment was the couch and bed in our room. They were incredibly uncomfortable. However, Kenneth, provided exceptional service. He listened to our concerns and was able to move us to another room. The room was more comfortable but the mattress was not. Putting a heavy comforter under the sheets helped but should I have to do this. The cleanliness of the rooms was excellent but the bathrooms could use some updating. We noticed that much of the clientele were older and updating bathroom fixtures to a comfort height would be helpful. The food in the two restaurants was excellent. The wait staff friendly and attentive and a very good selection of wine to choose from. I appreciated being greeted by Prince each morning as I went for our daily latte and bagel. Because there are many guests from all over the world an evening mixer/happy hour would have been nice.

Yelp
update 6/13/24 - to respond to General M./Business Owner comments Specifically to the comment about "transparency"...quote "We strive to provide transparency regarding all charges associated with our resort experience." I disagree with the comment.. If a potential customer goes to your website and goes to the BOOK page a calendar comes with RATES for a Room. Foe example: I chose June 29, 2024...room rate posted is $509 (customer will learn later that is a "member" rate which is not disclosed. There is also a note that says "excluding taxes and fees"...but no transparency indicating how much these additional charges are or how they are calculated. Customer will learn later that it is an additional 25%...YES, 25%...NO TRANSPARENCY. So now the customer goes to secure the room and checkout...NOW you learn that the $509 is a "member rate" and YOUR RATE is $599, PLUS another surprise the taxes and fees are 25% so that will add another $151.85 to your ONE night stay, for a total of $750.85. There is NO opt out for the amenities. Check in time is 4PM and check out is at 11AM the next morning...so how much time do you have to utilize the "amenities".? I do NOT call any of the above transparent. I have attached illustrative screen shots from the Spruce Point Inn website taken on 6/13/2024. Images for some reason are below in the original review.

Yelp
Beautiful location. Needs updating and attention to detail. Soap dish in bathroom wasn't clean when we arrived. We had a great view but the rail on our deck was rotting. Huge weeds in garden. Outside stairs covered in mildew and vines. Pool open until 9 but when we got there at 6pm there was a pile of dirty towels and no clean ones. Asked for more maple syrup at breakfast and none came. When I finally tracked down a waitress we were given ice cold syrup. S'mores around the fire pit is supposed to be every night but only happened one of the three nights we were there. It's just not what a resort that charges this much money should be.

Yelp
This a beautiful propery but outdated interior. And highly warn furniture. The pool and dock are the highlight of the hotel. The restaurants on property are understaffed and the food is less that average. I am truly surprised that this hotel was reviewing and awarded by conte nest traveler.

Yelp
On August 7th I wrote the following to the General Manager of the Spruce Point in with no response. Even after completing the Inn's customer satisfaction survey there has been zero communications from the Inn. Poor form. My family and I left the resort out of complete frustration one day later. Vacation ruined. Do not waste your time there unless significant improvements are made. "I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding our current stay at the Spruce Point Inn. While we were eagerly looking forward to a rejuvenating and enjoyable experience at your esteemed waterfront resort, our stay has unfortunately fallen far short of our expectations. I feel it is important to bring these matters to your attention in the hope that they can be addressed promptly to improve the overall guest experience. One of the primary reasons we chose Spruce Point Inn was the promise of access to a range of amenities, particularly the docks for activities such as kayaking and fishing. Regrettably, we have encountered significant challenges in accessing these amenities. The requirement to schedule a trolley ride to access kayaks is inconvenient, and the limitation to a specific area diminishes the true waterfront experience we had anticipated. Furthermore, I was surprised and disappointed to discover that the complementary motor launch, which was prominently mentioned on the Inn's website, is no longer in use. This lack of communication left us feeling misled and hindered our ability to fully enjoy the amenities we were counting on. Another aspect that has contributed to our disappointment is the need to request daily housekeeping as opposed to it being done automatically. This additional step has disrupted our relaxation and added unnecessary stress to our stay. In addition, the condition of the recreation room was quite disheartening. A majority of the video games were broken and the room itself appeared unkempt and dirty. This detracted from the overall ambiance and enjoyment we had hoped to experience during our stay. When I booked my families stay at the Spruce Point Inn, our expectation was to fully embrace the natural surroundings and have the convenience of enjoying the waterfront at our leisure. The need to drive or take a trolley to access basic amenities has hindered our ability to fully unwind and has placed us among the masses of tourists, contrary to our vision of a serene and relaxing getaway. While we understand and appreciate the charm of an "imperfectly perfect" experience, our current stay has been significantly below the standard we anticipated. I must admit that if there were a suitable alternative available that could accommodate my family, I would have already checked out. I kindly request that you address these concerns promptly to ensure that the remainder of our stay is more aligned with the experience we had hoped for when choosing Spruce Point Inn. Your attention to these matters would greatly enhance our overall impression of your establishment and potentially influence our decision regarding any future visits. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and hope that together we can rectify the disappointments we have encountered during our current stay."

Yelp
The pool is undergoing a major renovation which was not disclosed to guests in advance. By the time we found out, it was too late to cancel and management never returned my call. When we checked in we were assured kayaking and the dock will still be open. We walked down to swim and now the dock is closed despite zero communication of this from the resort. Now if you want to kayak you have to shuttle into town. We paid a lot of money to be here because of the amenities and convenience, and I feel ripped off. Buyer beware as the new conglomerate owners are dishonest and sneaky. The rooms are nice and staff works hard- although they are poorly trained- but it's just not enough to make up for the downfalls of this place.

Yelp
Loved this adorable little resort! We actually found it because we wanted a nice spa day/massage and it was one of the few with openings. Located about 90 minutes from Portland, this place felt secluded and quaint. It had so many amenities we weren't expecting (we didn't do a ton of research). Shuffleboard, two pools, volleyball, kayak rentals, a s'more pit they man on the weekends, a game room, restaurants, bikes. It was like being at the coolest summer camp ever because no one told you what to do. Our room was so cute. It was kitschy and stylish all at once. Bed was comfortable and it was spacious. We spent time at the pool and spa as well as the restaurants. It's also a short drive (or bike ride) to Boothbay Harbor which is a town out of a postcard. Loved it. One suggestion is maybe leaving one of the hot tubs open later (they close at 9). We would love to take our kids back even though we live across the country! Glad we discovered it!

Peggy B.

Yelp
I felt like I was at summer camp in Maine. Our room over-looked a lily pad size pond that was only mud and muck. The heat was an iron wood stove that was up dated to gas. The bathroom faucets were the kind that are so close to the basin that your wash cloth has to touch the basin to get wet. We checked in on a Wednesday, and the place was virtually deserted. The trolley to town was not available. The town does not have very much to offer. The view is nice, and it is extremely quiet. Not A 5 star place.

Yelp
This place came recommended by a good friend and I booked it using points, in which the B&Bs don't participate. So I kind of ignored the negative comments bc I had little choice. We arrived after check-in time so we had no problem getting our room key. The people in front of us had to wait for housekeeping to finish and they seemed slightly annoyed by that. We ended up in a cabin, so I can't comment on a room in the main building. The cabin sounds cool but there three rooms to a building and you can hear all sounds and vibrations from your neighbors. Since we had the middle room, we got it from both sides. The people on one side had three dogs and it sounded like they had the zoomies. It was very very obnoxious. The A/C unit is right above the bed and we couldn't figure out how the thermostat worked so we just turned it off. The choices were to either freeze while sleeping or be sticky because it is so humid. We chose sticky. Yuck. But the worst thing was the smell... the room smelled like floral perfumed detergent and it was STRONG! I'm glad we only planned to stay one night because it was nauseating and I couldn't wait to check out. I give this place 3/5 stars because at minimum it served to protect us from the rain in the morning, but I would not go there again. Sorry.

Yelp
This place was a dream! I actually cried leaving. Perfect place to bring children. They have a s'more bar nightly in front of a bonfire and an old fashioned recreational room to play games and swimming pool. The general manager was super engaged and helpful. He was such a hard worker who never stopped moving. Everyone was very friendly. It was like heaven on earth. If you have kids, this is the best place to take them. The rooms were huge and the views were breathtaking.

Yelp
Located in the picturesque Boothbay Harbor, Spruce Point Inn is a sprawling resort with the view of the bay, even from the pool by the bay. There were many types of lodging ranging from rooms to cottages, amongst some private residences. They had a "ship deck" like outdoor area where we could enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner with the bay view right in front of us. There were trails around the resort that we could walk and find all kinds of mushrooms! There was a kid friendly pool and a game room. The best part about the inn is Chef Rick! He was so awesome and accommodating with special requests such as a lobster dinner or an egg sandwich for my lil one. He also had a special dinner which was very good! A short distance to town it was accessible to everything, we had such a wonderful relaxing time.

Yelp
This place has a lot of historical charm to it. However, the facilities are weathered, worn and outdated. We still had a fun time here, but it's due for a refresh- things like some updated furniture such as the in room couch and updated beds could go a long way.

Yelp
This was our second visit to the Boothbay area in Maine and it was absolutely beautiful. What a great place to visit. The Spruce Point Inn Resort was like a hidden gem. The grounds were lovely and the suites were beautiful too. They had them decorated so nicely in a coastal cottage theme. The Resort had a lot to offer, from a saltwater swimming pool, heated freshwater swimming pool, 2 jacuzzis, bicycles, kayaks, several different restaurants and so much more. We stayed in The Lodges in an ocean view suite that was located in the Evergreen Building. The room was very spacious and immaculate. It consisted of a King size bed. fireplace, pull out sofa, coffee table, TV, carpeted balcony with 2 rocking chairs and a spacious bathroom with a soaking tub and a separate walk in shower that was very large. The heart of the town is not far from here at all. Great location!! We will definitely consider staying here again the next time we are in the Boothbay Harbor area!

Yelp
My family and I have stayed at Spruce Point Inn 5 times in the past 12 years. We continue to return because the property is special, and the location is incredible. We have made many memories here, including attending a family member's wedding on the property. Prior to our stay this September 2022, our last visit was summer 2019. We were surprised and disappointed to see the level of decline at this property. The property is understaffed and there is no on-site management (or at least is appears that way). The decks have visible dry rot and peeling paint, the window blinds in my room & in my family member's room were broken- basically providing NO privacy from anyone walking by (we had to pin up towels over the patio doors to prevent people from seeing in), the vanities in our bathroom had worn peeling paint, the lobby is sleepy and lacks any cheer.... Additionally, there was no food services on Monday night. I have never heard of a "resort" not offering at least 1 open restaurant every night of the week. This is a special gem of a property, and it saddens me to see how the owners have allowed this beautiful property to decline. I genuinely hope that the management "Spruces up" the Spruce Point Inn! This property deserves better care!

Britlyn L.

Yelp
Spruce Point Inn is a dream! My room was super clean and spacious. The food was delicious at every restaurant, not to mention how helpful and friendly the staff were. There are so many activities to do from biking, tennis, hiking, relaxing by the water, taking the trolley to Boothbay, or the complimentary boat ride. I would highly recommend staying here. Great for families or for a couples getaway!

Yelp
My son's wedding was held here August 11-13. I'll speak to the planning and execution of the rehearsal dinner, which I offered to take off of the much longer wedding planning list of the bride's parents. Email, director of sales June 4. basic initial questions and "What are my options for gluten free food choices?" (We had guests with Celiac). Three days later, after no response, sent email asking for confirmation the email and questions were received. Director responded she would "definitely have answers for me by week's end". No answers by week's end, emailed nine days later offering two days and different times for her to schedule a phone conversation with me. Final email, June 22, eighteen days after my initial email, I again offered two days and different times for her to schedule a phone conversation with me. I gave up emailing. Why should I expect a different outcome?I July 27, seven weeks after "by week's end" assurance email, received call from her. Interestingly, this came just a day after the bride's parents visited the inn to finalize details and to ask questions regarding gluten free menu items. This is just fifteen days before the rehearsal dinner. Got mixed messages about several key issues including the venue of the rehearsal dinner (clearly Whiteclover in contract) , couldn't use the china-could only use accent pieces-can use all the china, can't move the furniture, rearrange the tables however you like Email General Manager about no confidence Phone calls with director of sales and GM 5 days before dinner. GM 1. claims the inn is fully staffed (but job openings posted right on website and our experience clearly suggests otherwise) 2. says one issue is private dinners not usually in Whiteclover. but when discussing seating plan director of sales said the two previous dinners held there kept the footprint of the restaurant. 3. says check in is at 3 p.m. while director of sales said they always try to get rooms for wedding party/guests cleaned first. Rehearsal is to begin at 4 p.m. 4. Both claim the dinner will be all we expect and maybe even better Arrive 1p.m. day of rehearsal to go over seating, leave phone number with desk to notify us when townhouse is ready 4:12 more than an hour after the check in time given to me by the GM, the director of sales calls and offers us a room to get changed in. Drag some bags, but not all and definitely not everything we needed, from parking lot up to third floor. After changing and heading to return bags to car in parking lot to grab the correct shoes/belt etc, the desk clerk calls out to us that our townhouse is ready. That's not useful as the rehearsal had started without us. I'm not even sure where the groom, our other two sons and my daughter in law, who were sharing the townhouse with us, got changed . What might be the most infuriating is that the General Manager never sought me out despite knowing my experience up until then. He remained in his office, leaving everyone else to face upset guests. My understanding is he left the property at 6pm and was gone for the weekend. The food was delicious and the event staff was very friendly and responsive but sadly, this is not enough for me to recommend the Spruce Point Inn. Our experience with the management did not live up to the reputation of this beautiful, historic resort.

Yelp
We made reservations months ahead of time. One week prior to arrival we get a call from the Reservations Manger and she tells us information about the property and what a good time we are going to have and "oh by the way you will have to check out of your room after night three (We stayed five nights) and re-check in to another room." I argued and asked as to why this was happening and never got a real answer. . . . she did offer to give us a small monetary compensation for our inconvenience. My Wife and I agreed and figured it couldn't get any worse. The last thing I want to do is pack all my stuff and move to another room mid way thru my stay. I thought the move would be immediate. . . we checked out at 10:00 AM and did not get into our new room until 4:00 PM - we were livid. On the plus side of all this the first room we got was just musty smelling and dirty . . . we had to go to town and get air fresheners for the room which didn't work. The second room was very clean so in the end it was for the better. I did ask to speak with the Manager to get an explanation as to what happened and why. . . . I'm still waiting to hear back from him. The Restaurant is a bit overpriced but I can't complain about the food - it was actually pretty good. The grounds of this resort are beautiful you feel like you are in a botanical garden and the views are spectacular - This place has the best location in Boothbay Harbor. With all that said you cannot put a price on service and how you are treated. We never got an apology from the Manager. We think we got pushed out of our room due to a wedding party that wanted all the rooms together but the jury is still out on that one. This could have been a spectacular stay at a dated but beautiful property but what happened to us just spoiled it for us. New carpet and a good coat of paint goes a long way. I hope they fix the problems they have here as this place has a lot of potential.

Yelp
This is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in and also one of the most expensive. I literally did not sleep at all the first night. My room was next to a wedding party's room the night before their wedding and they had the entire party in their room. I called the front desk at 10:30 and it didn't stop, called again at 11 and it didn't stop and finally at 11:30 the front desk called the police who broke it up. Now I thought I might get some sleep, but that wasn't in the cards. There was a pipe that rattled and sounded like a private plane almost constantly. When I spoke to the manager Gil, the closest thing I got to an apology was he thought the wedding party owed me an apology. Unbelievable! I would have thought he would have offered a refund for my lost night of sleep.

Yelp
Needs some updates but lovely experience . Wish they had room service and some music down at the pool Wish they could update around the pool area and heat both pools . Overall nice hotel a bit on pricey side for what you get :)

Yelp
On July 7, 2021 I came into Spruce point inn to stay for 1 night. I checked in and went into my room through a small staircase that smelled really bad, I went into my room that was really hot and it smelled terrible. When I walked in I saw it was a queen size bed and not a king like I had booked. The carpet was filthy. When I made the reservation I requested a king size room. I waited for two hours for the general manager Gil to finish his conference call and explained to him what occurred. I told him it was better for me to show him the problem. He went upstairs into the room with me and told me nothing smelled bad and the carpet was not dirty. When I can clearly see the carpet was filthy and it smelled. He did not offer me any other option he told me I can leave if I wanted to. Then he went home for the day. He left us stranded and with no other options. Then the assistant manager came to help us at the laundry area to see if she can help us fix the washing machine that was not working and our clothes were wet. She told us that there was another room available that we can look and see if it was better. at least she gave us a room that did not smell. We have stayed in this property once before five years ago. When I booked the room they told me the rooms were freshly renovated. Everything was still the same as when I previously came four years ago. The general manager is a liar and should not work in the hospitality industry. This hotel is an a beautiful location however the property is not maintained, clean or updated. Do not waste your money coming to this place. You will be disappointed and disgusted. I had no other option I had to stay sleeping in a very unsatisfactory room. I don't wish this on anyone please stay away.

Yelp
So depressed after our visit. Sadly, this place is misrepresented on their website and on Instagram. We have stayed at several high end "campy" style resorts before where outdoor activities, spa and dining is highlighted. So the location is beautiful and the surrounding landscape is amazing-waves crashing on rocks, flowers blooming, and white Adirondack chairs on soft green grass are definitely the highlights. However, the structural facilities are run down-dilapidated would be the best word to describe. The actual inn is historic and old-appealing but needs an interior overhaul. The only two restaurants on property are depressing and understaffed. Housekeeping is non-existsant. Rooms are functional but smelled musty. No concierge and 1-2 front desk staff but no one going the extra mile-not one single person. But, the part that really frustrated me was our family likes to hike and ride bikes throughout our stay at any resort. No option to rent or reserve bikes-just directed to a "bike barn" which was a bike rack where a few old (and broken) bikes were parked. But never enough bikes for a family of 4 could ride together because people would take the bikes and leave them all over the property. So disrespectful and sad. Also, no attendant to pump tires and no maintenance to keep them working properly. Really sad. I know these resorts of yesteryears aren't as sexy as the corporately owned properties but we flew and rented a car to come out here to experience something new and now we're sad and heading up the coast to another resort we hope (fingers crossed) is more in line with what we want to experience.

Yelp
We were incredibly excited to stay at SPI but were severely underwhelmed. Great views but that cannot makeup for everything else this place lacks. If you've every stayed at a resort that charges any where in the price ranges charged by SPI stop right here and think twice. This places does not even come close to offering the the value at a resort of similar cost. I've stayed in motels that were more organized and clean than the Spruce Point Inn. Those motels were probably interested in staying in business. Check-in is at 4pm. We arrived at 5:00pm and were told it would be 15 minutes before we could access our room. Fast forward to 7:00pm after three more conversations with the front desk where we were promised just 10 or 15 more minutes, we were finally able to access our room. When we finally did get into our room, there were no toiletries, coffee, or the pet kit (water bowel, bandana) we paid for as part of our room fee. Again, at this price point you wouldn't even have to think about these things. When I called the front desk, the person had the audacity to say that this was normal and that they like to give their guests an opportunity to settle in first before bringing these items. I could not make this up if I tried. Are you serious? Based on hundreds of experiences in hotels in the past, typical experience would be to check in and then we would never interact with the front desk again for the length of the stay. The property is pretty dated which adds to it's charm but at the same time, I did not choose SPI to go away to a summer camp. At this price point, I would expect I would not have to unplug lamps and appliances to charge two phones and two watches because nearly all of the outlets didn't work. Bizarre. I asked to speak with a manager about the check-in experience after we finally got into our room. I'm not someone who does this often but I did feel it was necessary in this case. I really cannot put into words what a crazy ride just getting into the room was plus then not evening having basic items in the room. All I wanted to do was provide my feedback and ask that my bill accurately reflect the experience. Finally, after three days into the trip and multiple calls, I finally got a manager on the phone who just blamed all this on the wedding party that was also on site that weekend. I highly doubt this now after having read reviews from the past month when it seems others had this this same experience when a wedding party was not on the property. Either way, plan accordingly or only serve the wedding party. It wasn't like a wedding party just showed up on a Friday. The wedding was undoubtedly planned months in advance. Anyway, Boothbay is awesome, I just highly recommend planning ahead and finding a cozy BB or rent a private property. Your dollar would certainly go a lot further.

Yelp
Where do I begin? We spent a weekend at Spruce Point Inn because our niece was getting married at the resort. Instead of the less expensive lodging offerings in Boothbay village, we were excited to plan a stay at the resort. The photos made it look beautiful. There were 6 adults on our group and we splurged and booked a 3-bedroom resort townhome. Since it was a two-night minimum, the cost for the townhouse alone was over $2,500. We were due to check in on Friday and the wedding was at the resort at 5 pm on Friday. On Tuesday before the wedding (3 days), we got a call that the townhouse we had reserved months before was "unavailable " and we could "have" 2 rooms instead. After explaining that we would need 3 rooms minimum for the 6 adults, a third room was finally offered after several minutes and we were told that we should be grateful. Mind you, the reason that the townhouse turned out to be unavailable was a flood that occurred in the winter and our reservation was in June so it was hardly a new or unforeseen problem! Nevertheless, we were determined to make the best of it and enjoy ourselves. Next problem - check in time is 4 pm. Starting on Tuesday, we called to arrange for early check in because we wanted time to dress for the 5 pm wedding. A routine luxury hotel request turned into a problem. After multiple conversations with the front desk staff and Cindy Poe, the events manager, we finally got a commitment that they would "try" to have one of the 3 rooms ready by 3 pm! We arrived at 3 pm - no rooms ready. By 3:20, we got one room. The second room was ready around 4:15 (15 minutes after check in time) and the third room wasn't ready until about 7:30. My husband left the wedding reception to go get the key before the front desk staff left for the night! According to their website, "We promise to show you that we've never forgotten the meaning of true hospitality, or the importance of the personal touch. And because we promise you all of the above, we promise you'll want to come back." Not so much. The rooms had ordinary toiletries- not what you would expect from a luxury spa resort and our son and daughter-in-law's room had body wash only - no shampoo- and when they asked for shampoo at the front desk, they were told that they would "try". They didn't try or succeed. And, housekeeping never serviced our rooms during our stay! Despite all of this, I wouldn't be writing this scathing review if the post-checkout problems hadn't happened. You see - I left my iPad and my charging station in the room when we checked out at 10 am on Sunday. I realized my mistake when we got home Sunday evening. I called and spoke to the woman at the front desk who, after a few minutes, confirmed that they had it. In fact, she asked me to describe it (purple cover) and said "yes, I have it right here." I asked her to mail it to me and offered to pay postage. She took my address and cell number and told me that they would take care of it on Monday, June 14 and call me if there was a problem. I didn't get any calls. When it hadn't arrived by the following Monday, June 21, I called again. The woman at the front desk said she didn't know anything about it but could I hold while she checked. I was on hold for several minutes and then transferred to the manager, Gil's, voicemail without explanation. (We had met Gil during the check-in debacle and he assured us that they would make us happy- LOL). I left a detailed explanation about the iPad on Gil's voicemail and asked for a call back on the status. No call back from anybody and no iPad. On Wednesday evening, June 23, I sent an email to the events manager, Cindy Poe, asking for her help in getting my iPad back and especially asking for someone to call me or email me. You guessed it! NO EMAIL RESPONSE AND NO CALL BACK FROM ANYONE. More importantly, no iPad either despite 2 weeks passing. The Spruce Point Inn doesn't provide basic customer service much less the "luxury" service that they promise and charge for. Clearly, the staff doesn't care about service since management doesn't care! I am sure with the post-pandemic domestic travel boon this summer this "resort " will be booked all summer and the folks who've already spent a lot of money to plan their vacation will be looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I am sure that they will be disappointed. This beautiful location could be a terrific getaway but only after the entire management team is replaced. It rots from the head. Save money and book one of the inns in Boothbay Harbor village. You won't be disappointed. Stay away.

Yelp
Our experience at the Spruce Point Inn was so far below our expectations it will be hard to describe. My fiancé and I were supposed to be married this past weekend but, we were forced to postpone due to COVID. Instead of sitting home, we booked the beautiful Spruce Point Inn, which we had never been to. It was far more expensive than the other inn's in town but, we wanted the weekend to be special. So, we paid the premium. We booked a package on the inn's website that seemed to be a higher cost than just the room but, came with a waterfront couples' massage and access to the resort's amenities. Before booking, I tried to contact Spruce Point to ask questions but, the resort was not open for the season. So, we took a shot and paid the extra funds. We figured it worth it to splurge considering it was our special weekend. In my booking, where I was asked if I had any special requests, I detailed the situation of that weekend and asked if anything special can be done for us (champagne, strawberries, wine, etc.). That request was never even acknowledged by Spruce Point staff. When we checked in at the inn, we were not told of the amenities aside from shuttles anytime we wanted into town. Little did we know at the time, the resort was wildly unprepared to have guests and had just opened that week. We soon learned that the inn was very short staffed and that there was a 150-person wedding on site that weekend. At this point, we felt that we were not a priority to the staff. We asked for a shuttle and were told we need to wait because they were busy with the wedding guests. Our restaurant was expected to serve all these people and wait times became extremely long. We began to feel we did not exist to this place because they prioritized the wedding over us. On the 2nd day of our trip, I received a call from the spa to say that they would like to book but, when I returned the call, I was told that there was only one massage appointment available for the remainder of our stay and either my fiancé and I would need to receive a facial instead. I asked if the masseuse would stay the extra time and we would tip nicely just to get us in for what we paid for and was told no. The spa ended up securing another person to accommodate us but, we were unable to receive our couples' massage on the water. Instead we were in the spa and had to go back to back because there was no one available. We did not have favorable weather, which is not to the fault of Spruce Point Inn but, we could not use most of the amenities offered. However, the tennis courts were not set up for use. The event calendar on the inn's website stated there were events on the various days. We learned when we got to the inn that this was inaccurate. There was supposed to be live music on the inn's deck. When we asked why it was not there, the staff were unaware that there was an event calendar. I was then told they decided to start the live music the week after instead and never updated the website. So, we were out of luck with nothing to do. Another example is the smore's station. There was a smores station on the event calendar, however, when we tried to go, we were told they closed it early and we missed it. The rest of the trip it rained and there was nothing going on on the grounds for us to attend. Our room was not kept up the entire stay of 4 nights. We were never offered fresh towels, our bed made, or even basic cleaning like emptying our garbage and replenishing soap and toilet paper. The only real positive part of our stay was the lovely bartenders, Patrick and Tess. They were always friendly and fun. We went to the bar multiple times simply to enjoy their company. Unfortunately, they were expected to do it all. They were waiters, food runners, and bartenders for the entire restaurant. Our room was beautiful and so was our view. However, Spruce Point Inn seems to be horribly run. The staff is all over the place and the hospitality is terribly lacking. We checked out of Spruce Point after our special weekend feeling anything but, simply saying "we tried to make the best of it". Along with our check out, we received our final statement and noticed, in addition to our normal package, we were charged 'resort fees' that totaled nearly $150. However, I simply didn't have it in me to argue. I just wanted to leave. We were told repeatedly throughout our stay that the season really picked up in June and that's the best time to come. However, we paid a lot of money for out time at Spruce Point Inn and if you could not provide the resort amenities advertised due to it still being out of season, we should not have been responsible for fees, in addition to our package, especially when you are not providing events listed on your website. If the inn cannot manage opening when it did and housing average guests along with a wedding reservation, maybe it shouldn't have. We would love to return to Boothbay Harbor but, we would not return to Spruce Point Inn.

Yelp
This is for the Spa at Spruce Point Inn. We were there with our moms for facials, pedicures, and massages before we got married. It was calming, quiet, clean, and very pleasant. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. I got a pedicure first, which still looks great. Then onto my massage. My masseuse, Sue, gave me the best shoulder and back massage of my life! I'm a rock climber, a sloucher, and a non stretcher. I am strong, my muscles have giant knots, and I'm inflexible. Massages can be such a relief for someone like myself and this was one of these magic moments. Sue, an ex boxer from Long Island, also does sports massages in Newcastle. She used that skill to give me a complete work up. I was leaning on my side, off the table. She was working on my knots and stretching my whole back and sides. It was such a relief. This was just what I needed. My party of four left satisfied and happy with our appointments. I told everyone at our small wedding to try and go there before they left the area. BEST MASSAGE EVER. I will be back when visiting.

Yelp
The Good: - The waitstaff, banquet staff, and bartenders were phenomenal and should be given leadership roles. They were the only staff who were well prepared to give incredible customer service. - The view was gorgeous and the location is set far enough away from Boothbay Harbor to feel secluded but not isolated - The food was delicious! - After complaining at check-out they did remove food & beverage charges and the resort fee. The Bad: - Our room was not ready for the season. Art work was propped against the walls, we weren't given any toiletries, the entire cabin smelled musty and stale. We also found remnants of dirt in the tub and sink. - We attended a wedding at Spruce Point and many of the other guests were left without a room until 7pm when check in is supposed to be at 4pm - A total lack of communication with guests and management. Their website and socials claim that pools are open, yet when we asked the front desk (twice) we were told differently. When we complained at check-out about this, Gil, the manager informed us that one of the two pools was in fact open. - Their event planner, Kayce, is utterly unprepared and unqualified for her role. If you're thinking about getting married here, don't. We stayed at Spruce Point as part of a wedding party so we had close contact with Kayce throughout our stay. She made culturally insensitive remarks about wishing she could yell at the kitchen staff in Spanish. She was often MIA and also lashed out at me publicly immediately following my friend's wedding ceremony (the bride had requested that cocktail hour commence which I had politely conveyed to Kayce). She was heard on the phone by the groom and best man saying that the wedding guests were requesting a "dog and pony show." She was at all times kurt and often flat out rude to the wedding party, guests, and vendors. Beyond her total lack of interpersonal skills, she lacks the organizational skills to put on a child's birthday party, let alone a wedding. The bride and groom brought these and many other issues to the attention of management and their solution was to assign the front desk manager to help her on the night of the wedding. - Leadership at this resort is lacking and no one is willing to accept responsibility for shoddy service. I met with Gil, the GM, and relayed the above. Not once did he apologize and take responsibility which would've gone such a long way. Instead, I was met with excuse after excuse and constant changes of subject. In particular, when I mentioned Kayce's remarks about the Spanish-speaking kitchen staff, he thought that rather than apologize for her behalf or recognize how horrible her comments were, he should highlight how their workforce is made up of people from all over the globe (which is fantastic but completely glazed over the issue at hand). - During our stay, the resort completely dropped the ball for our friends who paid tens of thousands of dollars for their wedding. Let alone the many guests who stayed at the resort as well. This was in clear contrast to the way the Inn treated their MANY comped stays for bloggers and members of the press. While we were there I could count at least five groups who appeared to be staying at Spruce Point in exchange for social media posts and tags.

Yelp
Hello. I have a reservation to stay at this place and I have actually been calling and calling and cannot reach anyone to make a reservation or ask a question. I have been trying to reach the hotel for days and cannot book anything as no one answers the phone. I am quite reluctant to travel such a long way especially after reading these horrible reviews and not being able to confirm or inquire about anything especially with COVID right now. I NEED to speak with someone at the resort and am going to cancel.

Annemarie M.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would, for those who know me know I'm not a fan of Yelp. I'm a proponent of going to management directly to give them the opportunity to fix the negative experience. Well I did that and the only response I got was Covid related excuses, in my opinion they should have stayed closed instead of opening and misleading people into thinking that they would get a 400$ a night experience. I was never told that the spa and gym were closed, no maid service, one of the restaurants was closed, no hot tub. I was told when I complained that it's on the website, but I made my reservation by phone????? Stay clear of this place unless you enjoy a pack of barking dogs at 5:30am, sleeping on dirty sheets, and nothing to drink after 9:00pm. Broken soda/water machines. Fridge in the room was so jammed up with frost it didn't even work. Amazing views are all this place has going for it. Front desk woman was miserable. Toilet in my room wouldn't flush, I could keep going?

Yelp
Meh. Didn't meet expectations for the cost. No one told me the hot tub and pool were closed as well as the outdoor restaurant so our only option was to order food and take it back to our room since we had our dogs. Dinner was overpriced and again meh. We threw most of it away. Customer service was definitely not resort level. I asked about a boat ride and was told no idea and handed a brochure. The person taking my food order didn't bother to tell me I would need to pick it up so after waiting and waiting we called back and were told to pick it up. The room itself was okay but not worth the price. Super small bathroom and no place to plug the Keurig in. The grounds and view from the grounds are beautiful.

Yelp
Fraudulent billing. They charged me even though I canceled within the cancelation period. When I called they changed their story, saying I wasn't charged, then that I should be charged $25, then they hung up on me. Not worth the aggravation. There are plenty of good places to stay at that don't pull this.

Yelp
I must have been a very good girl this year, because for my birthday I was whisked away to a wonderful weekend at the Spruce Point Inn! This dog-friendly resort in Boothbay Harbor, Maine took my breath away. We had a king-sized suite with a "partial ocean view". Their idea of partial view is still WAY more ocean than I was expecting! One pleasant surprise on top of another! Our room was comfortable and spacious, well stocked with towels and robes. We didn't need to call the desk for a single thing during our stay. The large bathtub was divine for a two-person soak, and I appreciated the complimentary bath salts to go along with it. The campus has an incredible amount packed into such a cozy space--at no time did we feel at all cramped or overwhelmed. There is an on-site spa, where I spent a wonderful three hours being pampered, by way of pedicure, facial, and massage. It was more professional than some stand-alone spas I've been to! There are two pools on site, each with its own hot tub. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to enjoy these amenities much, though we did spend a half hour or so watching the clouds from the lower hot tub. We ate dinner and breakfast at Bogie's--YUM! It's Maine, so I ate lobster for every meal. Their 1.5 lb lobster dinner was fresh and delicious, and the lobster benedict was a great way to start my day. I would be THRILLED to return to SPI on a warmer weekend, but what we lacked in good weather was more than made up for by the comfort and pleasure of our stay here.

Susan H.

Yelp
I have been a loyal guest for years, but not anymore. The charm is gone. No afternoon cider, no coffee or muffins for breakfast, no smiling faces. I couldn't figure out our normal room choice on line, so called and still got the wrong room. Found out reservations are in TX, and they no longer allow reserving specific rooms. We were missing linens, pillows and towels for our 3rd person. Front desk never answered phone. Had to walk in rain to request it and no apology, acted like I was putting her out. Had reservations for boat that never showed. Front desk called and boat captain hung up on her and told her he'd be an hour late. Asked to speak to manager who never showed up. We left after 20 minutes. Sound fun and relaxing?

Yelp
Wonderful little resort at the tip of Southport for a fine dining experience. Reservations recommended. Casual to nice casual and pleasant live music in the bar area. Excellent menu and desserts!

Yelp
This place, nearly perfect just a short while ago, has really slipped. The staff, once thoughtful and cheerful, though young, now seems unfocused, even untrained. The grounds, once remarkably lush and beautiful, now are overgrown with weeds. And even the towels are frayed. None of this bodes well. The inn still has its charms - hence my 2 stars rather than 1 - but I do worry about the direction things seem to be going in.

Yelp
Please let me begin by saying that this resort has earned my two-star rating based on its customer service during our stay May 18-21, 2017.The resort itself is sitting in a breathtaking area surrounded by beautiful scenery and wonderful charm. The grounds are well-maintained; the entire resort reminds me of the Lake Lure summer retreat in Dirty Dancing. Now, having said that -- we feel that the service at this resort does not match what is advertised in its photos and brochures. It's a pretty face without much substance, unfortunately. After driving over 8 hours from New Jersey to Boothbay, we were both exhausted and hungry! Looking forward to actually getting settled, having a meal and hitting the hay...we walked into the lobby to check in. And...that's where the trouble seemed to start. Check-in was very easy; all of our reservation details were in order. And then: RED FLAG #1 We asked for suggestions about pet-friendly dining nearby for the following day (we were going to try to relax before heading up to Acadia Nat'l Park). The attendant at the counter had no idea what to say as she was "not from the area." She asked for another gentleman to help us, and he couldn't offer any suggestions, either. I'd expect the staff to know the area enough to answer such a simple question, even if that answer was that there wasn't any pet friendly options. Anyway -- this was NOT a huge deal to us. Just a bit unexpected. We headed to our room -- Sunset C. RED FLAG #2: The door in our room was VERY poorly hung. There was a 2 inch gap at the top that allowed light, noise, cold air and insect to enter without any trouble. Further, and I can't stress this enough -- if you are planning on staying in one of the cheaper cottage rooms -- you WILL hear the people next to you. Basically, what they've did was build big cottages and then just put an "X" shaped dividing wall in the middle of each to create four very small rooms. There is NO sound dampening - we could hear EVERYTHING in the room next to us. They could have been sitting on the sofa in our room. And, half the lights in our room didn't work. Again -- this didn't bother us all that much. Just, not what we expected for the price they charge. We decided we'd eat dinner at the resort since we were so tired from the long drive. We decided that "88" was what we were looking for. We checked the dress code they had listed "Resort Casual -- No Swim Attire Permitted." I was wearing designer jeans, a button down polo and loafers. My wife was wearing designer jeans, a lavender button down polo and matching lavender, brand new dress Nikes. We asked for a table for two...and THIS is where the DISASTER happened: RED, BURNING, SPARKING DISASTER FLAG #3: The maitre'd literally scanned my wife up and down and gestured toward Bogie's. We politely declined and said we'd rather eat at 88. He said, "I'm sorry. We don't allow sneakers at 88. We can seat you at Bogie's." We've never been so insulted in all of our travels. First -- the dress code clearly said Resort Casual -- no swim/pool attire. He even handed us the silly sign on the podium. OK, gotcha. We -- as I'm sure a ton of people do -- came to Maine to enjoy the outdoors. We hadn't brought elegant evening gowns and tuxedos with us ... because we'd read the dress code on the website before leaving and brought 'resort casual' clothing. My wife looked very nice, as did I. There was no reason -- especially since no one was in the restaurant -- for us to be turned away ... especially after traveling so long to get to the resort. I was furious. So furious, in fact, that I wanted to leave and either stay in another resort or head back home. I figured we wouldn't get a refund, and I didn't much care. Which brings us to RED FLAG #4 I asked what the cancellation policy was for the resort -- and the woman at the counter...did...not...know. She put me on hold for nearly 5 minutes and then read the policy to me from a card. What's worse is that my question didn't raise any concern from her. If I were in her position, I would at least ASK if th

Yelp
The SPI is a terrific place to stay! The hotel staff were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable. Leighton was our server in the restaurant and he made us feel extremely welcome. Then the spa........it was F'n awesome! Jessie's fascial and Nicole's massage were unbelievable! Yeah....I'm a guy. This was the best Birthday present ever! So refreshed! Stress free! And let's not forget about Stacey in the spa.....she was so forthcoming with advice on product and where to go to enjoy Boothbay ! Thank you SPI for a wonderful experience. Yelp
Very disappointed we where encouraged to dine there. Looking forward to the evening we arrived on time seated quickly. Waiter was very professional we ordered an appetizer to split and 2 entrees. Appetizers arrived and we ordered bread for the table and where told that the bread was 6 dollars additional. The dinner for two was a 140. Dollars do they really need to charge 6 dollars for 4 stale rolls? Never to return.

Yelp
I was very much looking forward to being here. I was quite disappointed by the amount of noise above us, two large dogs, playing ball, I found out later. No amenities, for the cost of the room. We had gotten the "romance package" as they don't have discounts for aarp, aaa, etc. So my sister and I took that. We were told that there would be a bottle of wine in the room, and 4 discount vouchers for the grill. I had to remind them at the desk for the discount and the vouchers. We got to the room, which was very dated and the rug filthy, no ice bucket, no wine, I had to call for the wine. It finally came with mismatched glasses. Not a big deal, but still....for the $$$ a little attention to detail would have been appreciated. There were no hooks and only one towel bar in the bathroom. The shower was moldy, very dated as well, no towel service for the entire stay. The dining room was interesting. I think there wasn't enough staff, therefore, the staff was pretty grumpy and tired, not really showing they liked their jobs. One thing they had offered was a pastry basket to be delivered in the morning. All you need to do was call the afternoon before and ask. We waited until 10:30 am the next am, and it never came. I called the desk again and the chef returned my call. He apologized and we both had lunch on him. That was the only good thing that happened. Oh, only two handicapped spaces to be had there as well. I was disappointed with my bill at the end with resort fees for four days of $211.64. I complained and received $100 off. For four days/three nights for almost $3,000, without food, I'd say I was quite disappointed and will not recommend or return to this facility. It's a beautiful spot tho. Just needs alot of work to be able to say its a premier resort. NOT!

Yelp
I stopped here to meet a friend he was staying at the Spruce Point Inn for the closing weekend. While sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the lawn we were greeted by Angelo and Liz the owners who wanted to meet Daisy Mae my pugwennie mix. They told us of all the events for the season and said we should not miss out on the boat ride to Brunt Island the oldest lighthouse in Boothbay and Maine. The weather was incredible and so was out weekend. Fill with hauntingsand stories my the campfire with s'mores and mixology, piano playing and the wonderful chess and checker set to play out side. Here you can have all sorts of spa treatments and go on hikes too. What a wonderful place to escape and a must to experience.

Yelp
Sadly, I would give the hotel a 10 for the room view (Captains Suite), a 3 for amenities, and a -1 for service. You should expect horrible service and little interest by management in remedying problems. It's almost like no one at this hotel cares anything about the guests. Interestingly, I overheard the manager promising uncompromised excellence to a couple booking a wedding. There is no room cleaning, the restaurant opens and closes without notice, there is no room service, the pool is under construction, the van service to the town is horrendous. We stayed for three nights, and at best, I can give this "resort" a 2 of five (mainly for the views). Sorry, you can do better.

Yelp
Great location. Good customer service. They even have a s'mores station. Perfect place to soak in Maine natural beauty. Amenities include spa, heated pool , jacuzzi, community hot tub, free bikes. Nice walk or bike ride to Boothbay. Free parking.

Yelp
SPI is a beautiful resort with great service and fine amenities. It is located right on the harbor and many rooms have beautiful views. The rooms are updated and the whole resort is extremely well cared for. Bikes, kayaks and paddle boards are all complementary for guests. Wonderful wooded walking trails surround the resort.

Yelp
This restaurant is a special place. It's really the best view in Boothbay. If you're looking for a special occasion or a romantic date night, you must must come here. The ambience is peaceful and elegant, with a view from every table. Bottles of wine are extremely affordable, so treat yourself! You'll find the staff to be kind, helpful, and filled with pride for working in this fine Boothbay establishment. Though the menu is sparse, all entrees are delicious, with options for seafood enthusiasts and land lubbers. Make sure to go early so you can enjoy the views of the harbor!

Yelp
This is New England's best-kept secret. This is a charming, quality resort with a breathtaking view of the harbor outside. There are also 2 pools (a saltwater one) and a regular one. The spa is wonderful and offers great massages which I had. Food was great (Breakfast buffet was outstanding) as well as service, kindness of the staff. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic, quality stay away from busyness, Spruce Point Inn is your place.

Yelp
A wonderful place to experience coastal Maine. Has the feel of an old time resort but with all the modern amenities. Everything included, bicycles, paddle boards, kayaks etc. Saltwater pool on the bay with a hot tub or heated pool on the main property. Or, enjoy the full spa and fitness center. Massage on the shore outdoors or in the spa. Every lawn game imaginable. All next door to the lovely community of Boothbay Harbor, though there hardly seems to be a reason to leave the property. All the staff, without exception seem to truly want nothing more than be certain your having a good time. OK it's a bit pricey, but in my opinion worth every penny.

Yelp
My husband and our sweet, little dachshund checked into cottage Sunset C in mid-June for a two night stay to celebrate my birthday. Even though this was our first time at SPI we were greeted like old friends by the front desk associates. We appreciated the bellhop service to our room - a touch that has mostly fallen out of favor. Our dog enjoyed her goodie bag which included BareBites liver treats and a roll of waste bags! We enjoyed the quaint elegance of the resort including our room which was equipped with a wet bar and mini fridge. We found the layout of the room perfect for us. They keenly used the decor to create 3 spaces in one- a bedroom area, living area with sofa and TV and "kitchen" and an entry area with desk and chair. There were two large closets and SPI robes! My only criticism repeats what I have seen others complain of- the lack of storage or shelving in the bathroom and an electrical receptacle. The whole room seemed freshly updated. We enjoyed a partial view of the bay from the attached deck's 2 Adirondack chairs and a nearby tree hung hammock! After the first few hours while sitting down by the bay, I jokingly asked my husband to please try to book us in another night! Gratefully he surprised me and did. Thank you SPI for a very memorable birthday celebration and for allowing our dog to join in the fun.

Yelp
Been staying at the Spruce Point Inn for years. A throw back of sorts, but still a very cool place to enjoy the Maine coast at its best. We have stayed in most of the houses and cottages over the years. Each has its own charm. This is not a Ritz Carlton (but it does have Ritz prices). The accommodations are rustic, but in a good way. It is a short walk to town from the Inn. While many of the towns scattered down the coast of Maine are great, we believe Boothbay Harbor is the best balance between snarly lobsterman and fun stuff to do. The town is very Mayberryish and there is always something going on. There are concerts in the town center and some pretty amazing acts that pass through the 100+ year old opera house. There are a handful of really great places to eat (Blue Moon Cafe, Boothbay Lobster Wharf, Pier One Pizza to name a few), but beware of the typical over-priced tourists traps as well. There are also a ton of places to visit close by, including Southport and Camden. Looking for a great vacation combo - do the 4th of July in Boston and then head up for a week at the Spruce Point Inn.

Yelp
The Spruce Point Inn normally has two restaurants, the 88 Grandview, which is very formal, and has a breathtaking view from the dining room, and Bogie's Hideaway, which is more casual, and has no view. But last summer, they decided to combine the dining space from 88 Grandview into Bogie's Hideaway, making for a much larger and more casual overall space. Now you can see the great view from the bar!! The food at Bogie's is pretty great, and not too expensive. I had a delicious chicken, pesto, goat cheese and tomato sandwich for under $10. The view makes it worth every penny.

Yelp
Had dinner at 88 Grandview so my review is restricted to this. The inn itself is huge, expensive, lots of nice amenities but obviously out of range of working Americans. So 88 Grandview is the more expensive restaurant. Idiotic player piano at the entrance was just annoying. Clams were rubber, steak and dessert excellent. Other diners with me enjoyed their meals. Atmosphere was stifling, like watching paint dry. In sum good food but no one looked happy to be there. Given the expense of the meal can't say I'll try again .
