"Set on the ground floor of a classic Georgian house by the famous Leith Walk, this wine shop sells a wide selection of naturally produced, organic wines. You can enjoy them in-house alongside some delicious seasonal dishes, where you have the option to choose from the à la carte or go for the 5 course set menu. Owners Matt and Marzena are always on hand to offer advice, and also run a basement coffee shop and in-house bakery selling some delightful sourdough." - Michelin Inspector

Lovely cosy spot to snuggle into for drinks / bites before dinner...or for dinner itself (we did the former but the menu looked lovely!). We were greeted so warmly by Mrtyle and Eve who talked us through the things we were interested in, and gave us such a lovely experience. I tucked into the non alcoholic options many of which are homemade with ferments and tinctures. My husband tried a polish orange and an English white, he loved both! The place is filled with friends catching up, and the ambience is super calm and relaxing music. Highly recommend for those visiting Edinburgh.

We stopped in spontaneously to escape the rain and were lucky to get a seat. It seems to be a very popular spot, and it’s easy to see why. We received great wine recommendations and enjoyed some delicious food. The salami and homemade gnocchi were especially excellent.

fancyish little spot perfect for a cosy rainy evening out… lovely plates and wines, our server was super patient and knowledgeable about the menus and gave great recommendations for both food and wine.

Stellar experience. First the wine was very refreshing and simply delicious. The selection and pairings with the food was perfect. Then the food itself was delicate, diverse and sometimes even complex, but always with pleasure and taste as the center. The chef is very skilled, and the whole crew makes for the best hosts. I recommend fully

This wine bar missed the mark for me. The list is packed with natural wines, which may suit some tastes but felt a bit inaccessible. What really let it down, though, was the atmosphere — all you can smell is food being cooked in the central bar on what seemed like a camping stove, and the whole place just stank, with no ventilation. Not the kind of setting you want when you’re out for a glass of wine. Not least, if id paid £60 for their tasting course id be even more disappointed at the primitive cooking.

I’ve visited Spry twice and I would recommend for the wine selection, light bites and the atmosphere is cool. Personally, a major downside for me on both occasions is that I found the seating and table set-up highly uncomfortable. The last visit, we were seated on two high chairs with the table being a significantly lower window ledge - pretty difficult to eat at, especially being dyspraxic. We had booked a table in advance & with the set-up being uncomfy, we asked if there were any other available seats and were met with quite a frosty no as there were no other tables available. The minimal aesthetic here is beautiful to look at, but I don’t find it a comfortable spot that I would want to spend an evening in. I would also say that the food portions are very small but quite expensive for what you can get at other wine bars in the city.

My friend recommended this we cute place and I loved it! Loads of variety of unique wines that you can't see in another places. Food was very nice, small plates to share were delicious and presentation very good. Staff very friendly and helpful with the choice of the wine. Our waitress was very attentive all the time. The only bad thing I could say and it wasn't a problem it was the food service was a wee bit slow but the place was very busy then we could understand.

A short Walk from John Lewis and St James shopping mall down Leith walk. Spry offers a minimalist setting with white walls, black-and-white artwork, and shelves of bottles on display. Seating options include modern Windsor-style wooden chairs and a mix of low ankle-height tables, small round tables, and higher bar seating. The lighting is subdued, with spotlights highlighting walls rather than tables, complemented by four globe pendant lights. The open-plan bar doubles as a kitchen, allowing diners to watch the two chefs at work. Food: The starters stood out with exceptional flavors and presentation: • Chicory Salad: Delicious, with an intense walnut flavor, though the raspberry was less prominent. • Beetroot Tartare with Smoked Eel: A well-balanced dish. • Cured Sea Trout: Outstanding, with a beautifully light aerated tartare sauce atop pickled gherkins. • Cured Halibut: While the dish was small, the Arbroath smokie cream paired with crispy potato strands was excellent. The mains were a mixed bag: • North Sea Crab with Jerusalem Artichoke and Leeks: Beautifully balanced and flavorful. • Braised Beef with Bread Pudding: The meat was decent, but the pudding was dry, and the overall dish lacked vibrancy. • Celeriac Lasagna with Cumin: The cumin was overpowering, detracting from the dish. Drinks: The cocktails were well-crafted but very small for the price: • Olive Oil Martini: Tasty but minuscule. • Negroni Bianca and Americano: Both enjoyable but portion sizes left something to be desired. Service: Long waits between courses were frustrating, especially for mains. The restaurant’s approach of serving all starters at once could be reconsidered for a more relaxed and staggered experience. Value for Money: While the food was undeniably delicious, portion sizes (for both food and cocktails) were underwhelming for the high price point. Seating was also uncomfortable, detracting from the overall experience. Final Thoughts: Spry delivers some exquisite dishes and creative cocktails, but the small portions, slow service, and uncomfortable seating make it poor value for money. Improvements in portion sizes, pacing of service, and comfort would elevate the experience.

Yelp
One of the best all-around dining experiences of my life. The food was absolutely fantastic, and the wine pairings could not have been better. Each time a new wine was served, the team at Spry would take their time introducing not only the tasting notes and reasons for pairing, but details about the vineyards, families that own them, why they choose to carry it, etc. The food is locally sourced, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Spry is run by a bunch of wholesome young people who clearly love what they do. I would be a regular if I lived in EDI, and I cannot wait to come back. In my humble opinion, they deserve a Michelin star; Spry was leaps and bounds better than an actual Michelin star meal I had a few days after this...
