LA’s Dog Haus Will Debut its First Chicago Restaurant This Weekend | Eater Chicago

"The River North nightclub is currently closed for renovations according to its website, and all of its social media channels have been taken down, suggesting that more extensive changes or a reimagining of the venue could be forthcoming." - Daniel Gerzina

One of Chicago’s Most-Popular Nightclubs is Shut Down by the City | Eater Chicago

"After the nightclub abruptly closed on February 23, I watched management reschedule a few events to other venues while speculation built over the status of the bar’s state liquor license. A report in Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown claimed Spybar was operating without a state liquor license, and CWB reported that the city shut Spybar down after discovering its lack of a state liquor license and citing it. Management hasn’t commented publicly beyond a Facebook post claiming they’d be back in business on Thursday. The club has been around for 23 years in River North, cementing itself as a popular late-night destination for partiers and bar-industry members who want a drink and some time on the dance floor after 2 a.m., and house and electronic music fans on the club circuit hold Spybar as an institution. Part of the confusion could be due to the bar’s address, since it shares one with Concrete Cowboy at 646 N. Franklin Street; an email to a city spokesperson wasn’t immediately returned, so I’ll be watching for updates." - Ashok Selvam

The space itself was really cool and had a great vibe, but my overall experience fell short. Drinks were pretty expensive ($18–$20), and prices were not communicated before paying, which was a red flag. I came here in the wintertime and they had a mandatory coat check and required cash only. They did have an ATM on-site though. One of the craziest things I have seen was the design of the women's restroom. The women’s restroom doors were semi-see-through... You could definitely see people through them. I felt so uncomfortable using the bathroom here. What was interesting to me was that the men’s restroom doesn’t have the same design. Overall, nice atmosphere, but the lack of transparency, extra fees, and questionable restroom design took away from my experience.

We had so much fun! The mixed beverages at the front bar were not the best, but having access to high noon and rebull was redemption! We loved the music, the sound system was good quality, the staff were attentive, I've never been in a club that kept the floor SO CLEAN!! fantastic, will definitely be back!

Buy your tickets in advance! Favorite spot in Chicago for house music. Entry is always fast, no matter what time it is. Bouncers are ethical, reasonable, and friendly. Bar service is speedy and kind. Their merch is the best! Also love that you can sit down without being a VIP. Vibe on the floor is consistently solid - everyone is there to move to the music. Love Spybar!

Easy entry. No line. $4 for coat check. Restrooms were very clean with an attendant. Bartenders super quick and efficient. Drinks are at least 30% cheaper then any other night club around especially soundbar that is across the street. Not too spacious but it never got overly crowded. Nice thing is they have seating outside of the vip area that is for everyone so you could rest your feet or back at anytime. They also have a merchandise booth. And security does their job at keeping everyone safe. One complaint would be the sound system. The bass was not adjusted so it was not really pleasant. Thankfully they fixed it a bit but it was still problematic.

Really good music, but the pretentious line outside always kills it for me. Once we got in, the place almost empty, so the slow moving line outside was just for the show. How about let people in and even discount the cover if you have to but fill the place?! Nobody goes to a club to be one of 20 people.

Aaron Peisch was so professional. He handled any issues I had pertaining to security and went over and beyond. I have been going here for multiple years and and believe Araron adds a vital part to the whole experience of what Spybar is, Marcus D to be included. Thank you for you your service. 🙏

I’ve gotten bottle service several times in several different places…SpyBar is by far the most stand out experience I’ve had. The service was excellent, Taya was very engaging, professional, and made the whole group feel so comfortable and welcomed! Mike the host was phenomenal as well, making sure we were taken care of in all regards. I also appreciated the security, they were friendly and did a great job keeping everyone and everything in check. Overall a smooth and very fun night with awesome music and awesome people. Will definitely be back when I return to the Windy City!
