New Baltimore Hotel Eateries Highlight Local Beverages | Eater DC

"On the ground floor, Square Meal combines an eatery and market with a coffee bar dedicated to Ceremony Coffee creations and a full bar stocked with local booze — including a whiskey made exclusively for the hotel by neighboring Old Line — and is slated to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily under the oversight of chef Wilbur Cox Jr. and bar manager Chelsea Gregoire." - Warren Rojas

It was my first time eating here, and what an experience it was. The food was terrific! The size of the plates are absolutely worth the price. The staff was warm and welcoming. I am excited to come back. Square meal is where you can have a great meal without paying an arm and a leg for it.

Google
Great place!! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food we ordered was great and fairly priced. The restaurant was clean and decorated with old fashioned signs and collectables. Will definitely stop in again when in Salt Springs.

Yelp
Biscuits seem to be skillet or griddle made, which is fine be me! They're plenty tasty and crumbly in a good way; not too much that it can't hold up against a hand breaded chicken breast or house made sausage gravy! I prefer to have it with both. The chicken has a mellow, but buttery flavor with just a dash of pepper. The gravy marries everything together. I enjoy that it's not a sage or smoky sausage used. The servers are all fantastic. The food is always quick, even when people are packed like sardines into the place. This is a busy breakfast spot for a reason!

Yelp
As all the previous reviews suggested, the Reuben was absolutely fantastic. I have driven by many times, and never stopped. Big mistake. Best breakfast I've had in a very long time. My husband had the French toast which he loved. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Much of the meal is made from scratch. Their Reuben sandwich keep coming back here after year. Even though the atmosphere is funky, the food makes the trip to Salt Springs worthwhile.

Yelp
Great food and fast, friendly service! Philly was delicious; they do not skimp on meat or cheese!! I also love their pancakes, they're massive and so so fluffy! Great place for awesome homemade desserts too!

Yelp
If you're looking for good comfort food for lunch or a huge breakfast at a reasonable price, then stop in here. Keep in mind their hours are 7:00 am - 2:00 pm.

Yelp
If you want good, country food, with friendly and fast service, THIS IS THE PLACE! The staff is wonderful, like family. The food is like granny made. Definitely brings back all the feelings of a great homemade meal filled with love. We have had breakfast and lunch here several times when camping at Salt Springs. Never disappoints. Note: $5 minimum for credit cards so bring cash if you just want a coffee to go.

Yelp
OMG this place is Southern comfort food to the max! Homemade corned beef hash, eggs, grits and toast -- what more could a girl ask for on a chilly day. We also ordered the tuna melt, the Philly cheese steak, biscuits/gravy, and an omelette. Everyone was happy with their choices and we all joined the Clean Plate Club. Our server was friendly and efficient. We will definitely come back next time we camp at Salt Springs.

This place is awesome. Had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was cooked to perfection. My friends had the Philly and one had chicken strips. Great food with great prices.

Yelp
We stopped here because we were on a motorcycle trip to St Augustine from The Villages Fl, and this was about half way. We opted for their soup of the day, which was vegetable beef. This was hands down the best vegetable soup I've ever had. I had to use my fork and knife to cut the hearty beef and vegetables. The flavors were great, and we left very full! The restaurant was also very full when we left as, no doubt, this is a very popular restaurant.

Yelp
Great food. Happy and friendly service. The price is better than fair. I could not recommend it more. They treat you like family.

Yelp
We visited Fort McCoy to do some riding in the forest. Great food and staff here at the square meal the kids had a Mickey Mouse pancake that was bigger than their head. The Reuben does have real corn beef maiden house, which I was very impressed with. We can't wait to return when we come back to the forest.

Yelp
Locals hangout. Went for coffee, ended up trying their Pecan Panckes, too. If you want real butter & real Maple syrup, better bring your own. On the plus side, Coffee was hot & they bring extra milk, if desired. $3.79 for two, large cakes that I couldn't finish, Coffee with free refills for $1.89. $6 Breakfast Specials seemed to be last night's leftovers that were being enjoyed by many, as were Square Meal signature, Biscuits & Gravy for under $5. Lots of lively conversations between families & friends gathered to enjoy an affordable meal in a homey café in the forest. A friendly biker group, FaithRiders, apparently make this their grub spot before enjoying the day's adventures. Huge parking lot, with shops to check out and if you come on Saturdays, a Flea Market & fresh Veggies & Fruits awaits! Bonus!!

Yelp
The food & service was excellent! We had eggs, potatoes, toast & bacon for breakfast and it was so delicious!

Yelp
Friendly, local diner near the Ocala National Forest if you are crossing the state or in the area. Reuben and Rachel (specify if want turkey) were both delicious and yes, the food does come on square plates!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Good food and great atmosphere. Most folks were locals. If you're an eavesdropper or people watcher, this is your kind of place! Did I mention the food? Oh yea, great food. Small town atmosphere with great service.

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Excellent little greasy spoon! Love it! We have been eating here for years, every summer that we come to the lake.

Two Peas And The Pod ..

Yelp
While camping right across the street at Salt Springs Recreation Area we ate breakfast here early on a Tuesday morning. It wasn't terribly busy and this is definitely a locals hangout, but we were immediately made to feel welcome by the staff and surprisingly by the four older gentlemen having breakfast in the corner. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and were not disappointed. The eggs were perfectly cooked to order and the potatoes were better than average. A great breakfast at a great price.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in salt Springs to eat. It is apparently were all the locals come to eat. I had a wonderful lunch there today consisting of fish and chips. It's not on the menu but they made a Pollock fried fish sandwich on a Big bun. It came with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, tartar sauce, and grilled onions, and for $1.50 they filled the plate up with the best hot fries I think I've ever eaten. I will definitely be going back. Probably tomorrow!

Heather R.

Yelp
Delicious home cooked breakfast! Fast service, great portions, and cheerful atmosphere! Shout out to the Heather's!!!

Yelp
Square meal is a must to visit every time I stay at my best friends lake house. It's also a must to compliment how delicious it is every bite. Keep in mind I'm a sucker for southern comfort food so if that's not your style first of all why are you even in salt springs!? The French fries are some of the best I've ever eaten dipped in ranch (heart eye emoji). Simple food, simple service, simple breakfast diner serving up a hot meal to fuel before a day on the lake.

Yelp
Typically I'm an exceptionally critical person. I dropped in here on a total risk. Turned out to be a great find! Great service/food! I'll definitely be back next time I come to the Ocala Forrest!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Breakfast in town! I love their food and their staff is very friendly. Always a great pkace for coffee and Country Fried Steak! Youll never be disappointed when you go there to eat.

Yelp
Best breakfast I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Beats the pants off of IHOP, for sure.

Yelp
I'm not sure what you would call this town. Yelp has it listed as Ft. McCoy, but it's right in the middle of the Ocala National Forest. It is definitely a one-horse-town, but I like it here. Square meal appears to be the only restaurant around. It's in a strip mall adjoining a real estate office, and it's right next to Dollar General if that paints you a picture. The place is full of locals and people staying in the cabins behind the place. The food is decent, and the prices are right. Breakfast is good. The biscuits are about 4 inches tall and fluffy. I made it out with a breakfast sampler and a coffee for around $7.50 which is awesome. They have a board full of specials that looked pretty good for lunch/dinner including home made meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy. The wait staff was really nice, and sent me packing with a to go coffee. I'd stop by again if I didn't feel like cooking in Ft. McCoy.

Yelp
Typical Diner food - nothing too exciting and depends on time of day whether or not it is hot or room temp. But the kicker was the $0.75 charge for WATER with lemon. Really?! No thanks.

Richard R.

Yelp
Small, old, FRENDLY. Great food and service.

Yelp
Stopped here to have breakfast while visiting family who live in the area. It's definitely a place for the locals upon walking in you definitely feel a little out of place. The server who took care of us was very kind and treated us well I can't say the same for the food while it was breakfast food one element of each dish was ice cold the cheese on top of the omelettes was clearly out of a plastic wrap not melted, it truly tasted like plastic. There were not many fresh vegetable options for the omelette and all of the eggs were overlooked. The kicker for me was the route treatment I encountered while paying my bill at the end of our visit, the very nice lady who took care of us should teach the lady behind the counter some good old-fashioned manners. There aren't many options to eat in this area but next visit I will look harder for an alternative to this establishment for sure.

Yelp
Stopped for breakfast and enjoyed the casual hometown atmosphere. Food was very good. Service by the waitresses excellent and very friendly.

Yelp
Neither Yelp nor Google Maps show this restaurant in the correct location. Square Meal is in Salt Springs, in a shopping center just southwest of the Hwy 19 Intersection with County Road 316. Local law enforcement personnel always know the best places to eat, and there were eight of them at Square Meal. 'Nuf said. Our waitress was very friendly, and we had delicious catfish sandwiches and fries. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Conch L.

Yelp
Good Food. The waitress could be more personable and pleasant as they are always in a hurry and have no patience!

Sandi R.

Yelp
Nicest waitress's anywhere!! Never see Robin without a smile.....they are all very efficient and personable!!

Yelp
Decent breakfast at great price. My eggs were scrambled just the way I like them. Good fresh iced tea. If I were out that way again I would stop. On the board they offered cobbler for 3 bucks! Can't beat that.

Leroy H.

Yelp
I stopped here on my way back to Jacksonville and I wasn't disappointed. Nice burgers with fresh toppings. Fries were delicious and plentiful. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. If you want a good burger, do yourself a favor and come here.

Joanna H.

Yelp
Yum! Breakfast was great! Veggie omelette, hash browns, and toast was perfect for this camper who didn't want to cook!
