Ordered sausage, olive, and cheese pizza…a little undercooked for my taste…flavor was bold on the olives…not a terrible pizza but there is better out there…wait time is 20 min in my case..everything cooked to order…Greek salad was amazing…if your in the area and want pizza this will do…

Google
This is a laid back pizza joint with lots of great combinations. I went with small personal size of the supreme pizza with peppers, mushrooms, and three types of meat. The dough is thicker, more substantial than a thin crust and is really filling. Square Pizza lives up to its name because they bake their pizzas in a square pan and are a great option in the sleepy town square.

First time in. Counter serve. Once the order was placed it was hard to find someone. Only 1 fork available. The pizza wasn’t great. We didn’t bother to take the leftovers.

Google
Ordered the Classic Italian (8.5/10) & a build your own sausage, pepperoni, & onion (8.0/10). Crust was good (wanted it a bit crispier) & had a good flavor. Sauce was great. Enjoyed eating pizza here. If you like a Detroit type pizza, you’ll like this place. Well done pizza square.

Google
This is one of the best pizza places in the United States. The crust is great, so is the cheese, and the toppings always taste fresh. My friends and I get it every time we are in MO, we ask for it by name!

Google
Square Pizza in Independence, MO, offers a unique take on pizza with their square pies and customizable toppings, creating a bright and family-friendly atmosphere complete with arcade games. Many reviewers praise the delicious and fresh ingredients, highlighting the satisfying crust and generous toppings. The "create your own" calzone is also a frequently mentioned favorite, lauded for its perfect ratio of fillings and tasty dipping sauce. The service at Square Pizza is generally considered friendly, efficient, and helpful, with several customers specifically commending staff members for their attentiveness, even during busy periods. The restaurant itself is described as clean, quaint, and simple, contributing to a comfortable dining experience. Many patrons express their intention to return, citing the consistent quality and enjoyable atmosphere as key factors. However, some feedback indicates potential inconsistencies. A few reviewers mentioned that certain menu items, like the wings, can occasionally suffer from a soggy texture. Additionally, there were isolated comments about slower service during peak hours, suggesting that the restaurant might experience challenges with staffing or order volume at times. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overwhelming majority of reviews for Square Pizza are positive, emphasizing the tasty food and pleasant environment.

First time here. Pizza was great. Staff were pleasant. However..not sure why at 4pm there was no clean silverware and tables were not bussed. It was not busy until 30 minutes after we arrived, so no excuse for those 2 situations.

Google
My half of this pizza was FANTASTIC I had the Truman. This was my first visit BUT IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST. I will be back for the hogwild next time and I saw a calzone being served and I will be having those it sure looked good but had already ordered. The service was EXCELLENT all of those employees were smiling happy young people and I do not normally say this BUT DOOR DASH WILL BEING THIS WONDERFUL PIZZA TO TOUR DOOR. Yelp
We've always enjoyed our visits to Square Pizza. Right on Independence Square. Good vibe, friendly staff, and a nice mix of booth and table seating for groups. It's been about a year since our last stop and was a good option after visiting the Harry S. Truman Museum & Library nearby. We ordered a small beef pizza and garlic knots. While the garlic knots were tasty, the portion (3 pieces) felt a little small for an appetizer. The pizza was good, not quite as put-together as we've had before, but still cheesy and satisfying. Pro tip: grab a side of their sauce for dipping, they go heavy on the cheese. Love that they offer both a soda fountain and bottled soda, and as always, the staff was friendly. We will be back!

Yelp
It's pizza is amazing and has great taste. The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was quaint with a small town vibe.

Yelp
Service is welcoming. Will answer any questions you may have. Last time we meet family there. They have a room for a large crowd. I didn't get anything to eat there, as they were unable to accommodate for a plant based diet. Hopefully they bring in some vegan options soon.

Yelp
We were near Independence Square and stopped at Square Pizza for a late lunch. It was warmer and more humid inside than expected on a hot summer day. The a/c definitely needed to be adjusted. The menu had a lot of good options and we settled on cheese bread, a small Chicken Alfredo pizza, a small Square House Supreme, and a pepperoni calzone. The cheese bread was quite good, but the accompanying marinara needed some seasoning. The pizzas overall were fine. I liked the crust and they definitely were not skimpy on the cheese. On the Alfredo, the sauce lacked punch and the cubed chicken similarly didn't have much flavor. The Supreme had fresh toppings, but again the sauce was just okay. Full disclosure, I am the only one in our group who had this opinion. My daughter who ordered the calzone really enjoyed it. My husband and another daughter really liked the pizza and would definitely go back. But I am a sauce enthusiast and was underwhelmed. Service was...mostly quiet. The guy who brought the cheese bread to our table was polite. The guy who brought the pizzas was mute. We were kind of amused by his stony silence. My daughter swears she heard the faintest "You're welcome" after she thanked him but I think she imagined it. Hey, not everyone is a people person.

Yelp
Worst pizza I have had in a while. Hawaiian. Six thin slices of not really Canadian bacon, about half the pineapple that should have been, soggy crust, and way too much cheese. Maybe just a bad night for these guys but I won't be back.

Craig C.

Yelp
We are visiting from Oregon for 6 months and we have eaten here 3 times already. Friendly staff, great accommodations and really good pizza. The crust is just the way I like it. A good crust but chewy and holds up to the toppings with good flavor.

Jonang L.

Yelp
Pizza is my favorite and we have it quite often. First time trying the Square Pizza and will definitely go again. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken and it was delicious! Ingredients tasted fresh. Love the soft crust, it has a very good flavor. And I like that it's a little different than the rest of the Pizza places around.

Yelp
I visited Square Pizza recently and the pizza was pretty good. The restaurant is extremely clean and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. This restaurant is in an excellent location near Independence Square.

Yelp
Great tasting pizza, one of the best in town! The staff was quick and friendly and washed down nicely with one of the local made Polly Pop, which they sell cold in house.

Yelp
Always my favorite. They have gluten free pizza, I don't have a gluten allergy but it helps keep my blood sugars lower. But even the regular pizza crust doesn't raise my blood sugar as I'm a Type 1 Diabetic. The toppings, atmosphere, and people are all wonderful as well. Love it!

Yelp
This place has pretty good pizza, but to me it seemed way overpriced. A couple of years ago I went in with a group of friends and we bought a Hawaiian pizza to share. My cost, although I only had one slice, was $8! Then, about a year later, a ordered a small gluten-free pizza with mushrooms and anchovies for carryout, and my cost was over $26! It was very tiny, too. Way too tiny to justify that price. I see now that you can order online, and their menu adds $5.00 to the small price for a 10" gluten-free crust. But their prices are still really high, even for non-gluten. Their small Supreme is $12.99, and their large Supreme is $20.99. That's a lot to ask for a pizza whose only special feature is that it's baked in a square pan. Like most places located on Independence Square, the Web menu says this one is only open from 11:30-8:00 Tues-Sun. However, they now offer chicken wings at 10 for $9.59, corn nuggets for $4.59, and cheese curds for $3.99. They also offer calzones and salads, along with a couple of the usual bread-based desserts. It'll probably take something special to bring me back, though, although I might consider it based on the corn nuggets and the cheese curds.

Yelp
Best pizza ever nice and thick lots of toppings a lrg will feed a family it's so big my adult kids really enjoy picking up for family events

Yelp
Really high quality pizza and nice guys running it. I got the cauliflower crust and Greek salad. I also loved the local old-fashioned soda. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
If you like pizza (which I certainly do), but you want to try something just a little different; then I recommend you try this place. Not only do they have options you can't find elsewhere but also there is just something different about the way they cook them in those square pans.
google avatar

Yelp
Square pizza has my vote for the best calzone in KC. Located on the square in Independence they have made to order calzones with a crispy crust and stuffed full of great ingredients. My favorite is beef, Canadian bacon, onions and mushroom. The kids love the square cheese pizzas. There is also a room for birthday parties if you want something that taste better than the usual kids pizza party.

Yelp
Good pizza! I've only been there a couple times but it's one of my favorite pizza places so far. Quick service as well.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
It started out as a great pizza place years ago but since Covid the business has gone way down hill. Staff has been rude and unfriendly. Pizza usually is good but at times it's not as warm as I would like. I won't go there until things change.
google avatar

Yelp
When you walk in for the first time you feel like you are going back in time 30 years. If you are familiar with the Independence square then you will already know what to expect. It fits the old decor of the area. We ordered two small pizzas. They are larger than a personal pan, but not much bigger. For 2 small pizzas, bbq and chicken alfredo, and water to drink we paid $29. Definately pricier than some other places. The pizza isn't bad. Their crust seems freshly made and you can smell the yeast in the dough. The toppings were good, but on the bbq pizza the bacon was completely burnt. The chicken alfredo had cubed chicken, mushrooms, spinach and artichoke. It was good, but not as good as places like MOD. When I'm wanting pizza I will probably go elsewhere. If I happen to be on the square already, I would stop in occasionally.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
The employees had no idea about a menus. Either take out or online. The pizza tasted spoiled. Either the ham or sauce. We try to support local and this we keep coming back but it comes down to no pride in the business equals inconsistent food. Not going back. At one time was our favorite.

Yelp
Love the pizza here it's a great original pizza place , nothing fancy , they do have a game room as well . The grandkids love going here , happy Littles = happy mawmaw !
google avatar

Yelp
Vibe is really cool in the pizza place along with the twin; however, the pizza isn't that wonderful.
google avatar

Yelp
Bad. I at first thought I had ordered a cheese pizza instead of a big island. Then I found a couple of pieces of pineapple less Canadian bacon. Not much cheese. Soggy crust. Sad sad sad a frozen toneys is much better. 20 bucks, ha my dogs liked it

Christian H.

Yelp
Amazing pizza. Small business that knows pizza!!! If you are looking for something other than chain pizza make this your first stop.
google avatar

Kalen N R.

Yelp
Went during lunch break the place wasn't busy. Just two of us went and ordered a large pizza and two drink, total came to 34$. Pizza wasn't that great and way over priced.
google avatar

Rhonda S.

Yelp
Square Pizza is still top notch. I went there for a birthday party last night. The pizza ranks up there with other local establishments. I mean day-um. The service was great. But, they moved us from the main room (as we were eating our pizza) to the party room, and I thought the moving around was sloppy. I still like Square Pizza, still pay with cash there, and enjoy it. I bought a large pepperoni, and iced tea. I enjoy their pizza, but for some reason I can't get my family to eat there. It's really good. And the price is excellent.

Ashtyn F.

Yelp
Right on schedule and the pizza was AMAZING! We had the Margarita and Supreme pizzas. Both were very delicious! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Wow!! What a gem of a place, in the middle of no where. Visiting Truman Library/museum?... eat at the pizza shop then walk a block down to Clinton's Soda Shop for dessert (or have a "Polly's Pop" at the pizza or soda shop). Pics attached. YUM!!!! Side salad was excellent and fresh! And bonus, attached game room for the younger ones ;-)

Yelp
Ordered to go! Super friendly staff, wings are okay they have a lot of fat less meat, but the ranch is perfect. PIZZA IS SPECTACULAR! They messed up our first pizza, it had artichoke and olives when I asked for none, made it again, they gave us BOTH right order and wrong order so sweet! Husband ate the one with olives. We will come back for $5 unlimited play on the arcade for sure. So glad we went here instead of Tim's Pizza, since Tims only takes cash.

Yelp
I'm just really not impressed with the man who comes out to deliver the food. I'm sure he's the owner but has a really big chip on his shoulder. He is so rude and seems like he's so annoyed to talk to people. I'll definitely not be buying from here anymore. I've been told about his attitude but who cares. I'll let 10 more people know not to go there. Customer service is atrocious!

Dan R.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed since my last visit (before covid). The toppings were about 1/2 of what I remember. I ordered a large meat lovers pizza and not every bite had meat. I don't know if it was a bad day for the chef, but will not be visiting there anymore. Sorry guys!
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
Always great pizza. The prices are high. Loved the atmosphere when they were open before COVID. Usually try to go often. Independence square is always fun.

Cody H.

Yelp
Showed up at noon to a sign that said sorry for the inconvenience we won't be opening until 1230! No big deal so we waited! Walked back to the door at 1230 to a sign now saying sorry not opening until 1:30! Wtf very disappointed
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
Tasty pizza, and fun friendly staff. The atmosphere here is somewhat old school with wood booths and black and white tiled floors. The pizza is tasty and balanced. Square so the crust is sure to be crunchy but in a good way.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Friendly, attentive employees? Yup. Locally owned? Yes, Sir. But NO COLD BEER? That's odd for a pizza joint! (I'm not a big drinker, but DO like cold beer with my hot pizza.) My pie was perfect, but my salad was (ick) mostly iceberg. Will give this place another chance next time I'm in K.C. (I hope to have a five star visit next time.)

Yelp
Took my daughter in there yesterday May 13 2021, worst experience I've ever had trying to get used to getting back to in person eating I wont get into a long description but a shift manager comes out and bitches at me for cutting into and eating a piece of a pizza that was not meant to come to our table someone needs to learn some management skills it didn't get any better from there not a good experience and wont be back and I dont recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
This place have provided me with some of the best pizza I have ever tasted I Stan this place 100%

Yelp
What can I say? This place was just pretty dang average. And no matter what shape in which you prepare an average pizza, it's still just average. I came in for lunch and had planned on getting a slice. Once I looked at their little spinning pizza display, I realized a slice of pizza was 1/4 of one of their squares, and WAY more expensive than 1/4 of a pizza. I threw caution to the wind and ordered a whole pie, anticipating leftovers. Well, there were leftovers, but I left them there. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, which I know isn't the most traditional, and maybe not the most fair on which to judge a place. But if it's on their menu, what can you do? I'm sitting here trying to think of how I would describe it, and all I keep coming up with is "blah", so why elaborate? The place gets points for being local and supporting what I suspect might be a struggling (or emerging?) retail district, but if I had to face the choice between this and Pizza Hut, I honestly don't know which way I'd go. That's not a good sign.
google avatar

D L.

Yelp
We ordered the chicken Alfredo. It was delicious. Plenty of tasty ingredients on a good crust. Curbside service was good.
google avatar

Mnason M.

Yelp
Overall good pizza! It actually reminds me of Godfather's and some Minsky's pizza I've had. I ordered a small with three-cheese and Italian sausage on one half. I can't say it is the best pizza I've had. In my opinion, the crust was a little airy and lacked unique bold favor. I actually would have given this place 3.5 stars but thought it deserves better than "okay". * The dining room was nice and clean when I was there * Decent pizza although the crust is lacking some bold favor * Cooked wonderful with plenty of golden brown melted cheese * Love the "stringy" cheese * Unfortunately it is a far drive from Olathe, Kansas
google avatar

Yelp
Great little place downtown in Independence. We ordered a veggie calzone, a pizza with pepperoni sausage and mushrooms, and an Italian sandwich. Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff was super nice and welcoming.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
I have only had a calzone from this place, but if the pizza is anything like that calzone, I'll be coming back. If you're looking for a departure from the chain-style pizza joints, give this place a try. You'll love it. Note: the decor reminds me of the J.Geils Band "Freeze Frame" album cover. Good album.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I like pizza. I like any pizza really, and I get excited about thin crust pizza. BUT this thin crust is soft, doughy. Can't even pick a piece up to eat it. What the... Love the flavors of the cheese and toppings, though... And the ranch!
google avatar

Bobby N.

Yelp
Square pizza was pretty F'ING good! My family and I where part of a large party. Their back room can really hold a lot of people. Our orders came out quickly and accurately. The pizza was not at all what I expected. The crust was chewy and tender. The sauce was rich and flavorful. We had the six cheese pizza. And I don't know if it really had all six cheeses but the cheeses on this pizza where delicious. My family had other varieties and everyone was happy with their square pie. This seems to be a great place to bring your family and friends. We don't make it to this part of town very often but if we are - and we are in need of a square pizza, this will be the place we go.
google avatar

Ghislaine M.

Yelp
The pizza was great honestly great. My husband is from independence so we wanted to try something local while we were in from stl. We had an Alfredo cheese pizza and a bacon/jalapeno pizza. Both were delicious. The crust looks thick and heavy but ended up being buttery and fluffy. We will come back again in the future and try the calzones. The lady next to us had one and it was bigger than her head!
google avatar

Kassie C.

Yelp
This place is a small little gem in Independence but it's very good! Reasonably priced and a perfect stop if you're up on the square
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
We were on the main Square in Independence for Santa Cali gon days, looking for a place to sit down and relax for dinner. Thankfully we looked on our trusty Yelp app, and came across Square Pizza. The order counter was up at the front, and the prices are really reasonable. The crust is not to doughy, I was worried about that based on some of the other reviewers. It's definitely a homemade hand-tossed crust, baked with a nice crispness. Toppings tasted fresh, there was plenty of sauce which we really enjoyed. The pizza came to our table quickly even though they were quite busy. We did not partake in arcade, but they had some nice looking pinball machines and a Half Men. Definitely a nice find on the square for a quick casual dinner.

Yelp
I have to admit I was wrong about this place.... i saw it on Yelp and didnt think it looked that great, but hubby saw it and really wanted to try it. So we went and I have to say it was fantastic. the service was very good. The pizza was great. Salads were great. Clean and friendly atmosphere. The only negative i would have is that they are a little inconsistent. We went in and ordered a pizza, a couple side salads, and sodas on a Sunday... went back on Friday again ordered the same thing. it was good both times but there were differences... the pizza crust was different, the salads were twice the size the second time, the side of ranch dressing was half the size the second time. both really good just not consistent just a few days apart. But overall we enjoyed both experiences and would recommend them for sure.

Yelp
Haven't had a good local pizza place in forever! We stopped through on our family vacation and needed something to eat quickly. I ordered the sausage and pepper calzone with honey bbq wings. Sooooooo delicious!!! Our kids ordered a cheese pizza which was also delicious. Cheese was melting off their lips. The customer service was also excellent. They were very knowledgeable in the menu and helpful in offering suggestions. Cool came out to ask how everything was.
