Omg the vegetarian mushroom sandwich is to die for. I don’t even like mushrooms that much but these ones taste so good and are thin sliced. I added avocado. It was AMAZING! My bf liked his burger as well. Good cocktails too. All around a great place to eat. Will be returning.

Absolutely loved my first experience here! I was told about the brisket nachos, but I had no idea they would be THAT good! Yari was a great server! Can't wait to tell others ☺️

If you’re looking for a place that strikes the perfect balance between elevated comfort food and expertly crafted drinks, Square Roots is a standout you won’t want to miss. Let’s start with the cocktails: absolute showstoppers. The menu offers a thoughtful mix of classics with clever twists, alongside inventive originals that hit all the right notes. I tried their House Margarita and a house old fashioned, and both were impeccably balanced—not too sweet, not too strong, just right. The bruschetta deserves its own spotlight. Forget the tired tomato-on-toast treatment you get elsewhere—Square Roots elevates this starter to something unforgettable. Each bite was vibrant, fresh, and layered with flavor. But what truly made the evening special was the service—particularly from the waitress, Vanessa. From the moment I arrived, Vanessa welcomed us with such warmth and professionalism that it instantly set the tone for the night. She went above and beyond to accommodate my seating request and checked in later to make sure everything was going smoothly, something you don’t often see. It’s rare to find someone who can make a busy restaurant feel personal, but Vanessa did just that. In a city full of places trying to impress, Square Roots does it effortlessly—great food, top-tier cocktails, and service that genuinely makes you feel like a valued guest. Highly recommend.

Google
Very cute place for drinks and good food. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is well decorated and very clean. There is plenty of seating available, and they have a patio. They have unique drinks and food selections. There is something for everyone. The service was great in the beginning, but once we received our dinner, she never came back. We had to call her over for the check and some boxes. Overall, I would definitely recommend going here. The food was fantastic.

Google
The Prickly Pear Margarita was DELICIOUS and the Meat Gazer bowl was veeeeery tasty. I’d come back for the food, but the reason we stay is because of Shelby’s service🙌🏼 She gave us great recommendations, impeccable service, and helped us celebrate a birthday in a way that was above and beyond. We will be back!

Had a great time at Square Roots! Our server, Lauren, was awesome-super friendly and on top of everything. The food was really good, and the service overall was great. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

Google
What's the square root of zero? 0 stars for first and last visit here. We had a group of 5 and wanted to sit outside. We were denied this request because we were told a fifth chair couldn't be moved to a table of 4, even though the weren't busy. Ok, we agreed to be seated inside. After waiting nearly 10 minutes without so much as even a glass of water being offered, it was time to leave. Reading the fine print on the menu, also noticed that all credit/debit card payments would be assessed a 3% fee for processing, on top of already high prices. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The establishments response is a joke at best. The so-called hostesses at the front are more interested than standing there and looking awesome then meeting customers needs. It goes without saying if you can go somewhere else please do. This place cares nothing about your needs or your business and is only interested in defending their bad service.

Google
Excellent place for larger parties, but keep in mind they don't take reservations or parties larger than 12. They sat us quickly with a group of 10 and our waitress was very attentive. We ordered appetizers, fried cheese curds, giant pretzel, and Philly cheesecake egg rolls. They were all delicious! Within our group we tried several things: earth bowls, burgers pot roast, and tacos. Everyone was happy with their food and we had leftovers too! We would definitely again if in the area.

Yelp
The food is always great. They have a flat bread pizza that is great for one person! Or maybe two. But I like pizza so much that I always eat the entire thing by myself. The ambiance is super although the music is a little too loud sometimes. But I'm a Boomer maybe I'm just getting old.

Yelp
Summer 2025- They had brought back using a LARGE PORTABELLA MUSHROOM CAP in replacement for the meat on a sandwich of your choice. This makes me very happy! *Service is slow (as expected here)

Yelp
This place is excellent for a late Sunday lunch. I've only been here once but I'll be back! Great beer and drink selection too. We started off with the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls and let me tell you these should keep you coming back! They are filled with juicy steak and peppers and have a queso dipping sauce - they were epic! For lunch we ordered the cheeseburger with onion straws and bbq sauce with bacon and it was cooked to perfection and tasted excellent. We also got a chicken wrap which was very good too. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Stopped by during our travels to Chicago and glad we did! Our server Hailey, was attentive and sweet, our drinks were perfect and our food was delicious! It was a Monday night and was pretty busy but it was the night before Christmas Eve so that probably factored in. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday night and got a table in the bar in about 15-20 mins. The service was friendly and the menu had a lot of options. We ordered the pretzel app, the gobbler griller, and each had a drink! Always a good time here, lots of sports on TVs and high energy

Yelp
I have been to square roots a number of times with family, but had yet to post a review. I have not had a single meal or experience there that disappointed in anyway. Their menu is well rounded with a variety of offerings. They also have a different soup of the day, and specialty cocktails. We have always had very good service and up at the bar this afternoon was no exception. The atmosphere is comfortable, stylish, and would be great for a date night or even a family friendly dinner. Great bar area with a giant TV to watch the game.

Yelp
Rhonda is the best bartenders. She makes every time a great time. I make sure to come and look for her. Thanks for always knowing my drink and food order. Thanks for always making our experiences fantastic. You're truly a blast!!! Love you girl!!!

Yelp
The menu had a great selection of standard fare with a twist. I really enjoyed my "Beer"bacoa tacos and my aunt's salad looked amazing. The ambience is really welcoming. Made a great family lunch on a Saturday.

Yelp
The selection and quality of the food was great. We all ordered something different and enjoyed our meal and drinks. We had great service, and no waiting. I don't care for the decor and I felt that the lighting is too bright, but I'll try it again.

Yelp
Good to see a place like this in Crown point Indiana. Good atmosphere good service. A basic old fashioned was my drink done right. Food was average the three little piggies was the pork carnitas tacos. Good size serving but the carnitas lacked the flavor and crispy crunch that carnitas should have. Change it to pulled pork tacos and I would have thought that was fine. I would come back and try something else

Yelp
Great food and excellent service! We love getting their nachos whenever we go! A perfect spot for both a family dinner or meeting up with friends for a few drinks!

Yelp
The food is delicious and the service was prompt. Zac was our waiter and he did an amazing job. The ambiance was nice. Music going and love the decor.

Yelp
Great addition to The Square. Nicely remodeled space, wide selection of meals, large tap list, and kind staff. I got the Mac n cheese with brisket. It was a dinner portion, and a large one at that. Could serve more than one person for sure. They have some fun daily drink deals. There were a lot of sporting events on the TV. Would gladly return to meet up with family and friends when in town.

Yelp
Driving hangry back to Chicago we've stumbled upon this place. At first glance I knew this place would be good. Aesthetically welcoming you get the beer barn modern vibe. The hostess was very welcoming. We were sat immediately in a booth. Our server was top notch, very attentive, knowledgeable and overall down to earth. We wanted a piece of everything on the menu. We tried a beer flight which was good, I forgot which beer I like :(. The other drinks were good. We had a sandwich with honey on it which we were not a fan of.... Overall dry. Cheese curds were good. I'd definitely stop by again during another Indiana road trip.

Yelp
Had the grilled cheese brisket and waffle fries. Delish! Just visiting CP for first time, when I come back again will come back and order same thing. So good!

Yelp
Holy melted butter on sourdough Batman!!!! I had the Hall of Famer. It DESERVES the title. Grilled sourdough bread brushed with butter, tender brisket, barbecue, sharp cheddar and Caramelized onions. I closed my eyes. I breathed it in. Tender brisket, tangy barbecue, crunchy bread, rich butter. I am clearly enraptured. I just ate there three hours ago and I want another. I got the truffle parmesan fries as a side. Excellent choice as well. Eclectic decor. Clean restrooms. Sundays with all the mimosa specials and booze looks fun. Solid choice any time of day or week. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Let me start by saying, if you want awesome dining options in northern Indiana & want to avoid getting too close to Chicago, Crown Point, IN has you covered! Dozens of restaurants fill the downtown. You can literally have breakfast, lunch AND dinner there and experience almost every culture of food. For a foodie like me, well, it's pretty awesome... and... I digress. We were exploring the downtown shops when we suddenly realized we hadn't eaten lunch (I think the yummy smells we kept passing helped with that). Suddenly hungry, we walked into the next place we saw... and I loved the idea of it because I LOVE Gastropubs. Usually I do a ton of research ahead of time, but since this town seems to feature restaurants as its go-to attraction (and I usually can find something gluten-free to eat at Gastropubs), I figured I'd be able to find something... somewhere... if not here. First, the staff knew exactly what gluten was. Gold star for them and the manager handling their training! Second, the atmosphere was modern with a hint of edgy. Super cool vibes. Third, since hubs doesn't have "issues," he ordered the Chicken Florentine soup not thinking anything of it except that he wanted soup... and he didn't know what to expect, but said it was one of the best soups he's ever had. That's high praise coming from him - he's very particular about praising soup! Unfortunately I couldn't partake in any of the yummy-sounding soup options since none were GF... and I was in the mood for a salad (rare) anyway, so I got the Southwest salad. It. Was. Super. Good. And not just because I was on the verge of fainting from hunger. While the restaurant makes an effort to include many gluten-free options, including buns, they got demoted one star for not having a simple GF soup option. If they'd had a gluten-free soup, well, that would have blown me away. Either way, this place is worth a visit and we look forward to heading back to Crown Point to experience another one of the amazing downtown restaurants soon while we're in northern Indiana!

Yelp
The food was amazing!! I love a good gastro pub and this place definitely delivered!!

Yelp
My hubby and our daughter stopped in yesterday for a lunch as my daughter is vegan and she found that option at this Gastropub. First, the prices, for the selections seemed quite high, but hubby and I planned to split "The Babe," which was house-pulled pork + BBQ sauce, potato chips, sweet & spicy pickles on a pretzel bun. We declined the house fries and asked the alternatives; one was asparagus which we chose, not realizing it was a dollar additional. Our waitress (S Peyton), was extremely patient and accommodating when our daughter vacillated between two choices, and her selection was settled. Then we waited. And waited. I should have taken a pic, did not. The BBQ sandwich was loaded and 7-8(?) (baked?)asparagus spears accompanied the pretzel bun. No, the potato chips were not on the plate. They were in the sandwich--a rather unhappy surprise. Hubby quickly determined he didn't like the sweet & spicy pickles--I only found dill. My daughter's Black Bean Bowl was loaded with rice with a mushroom accompanied by a sample-size guacamole. Music loud enough to be difficult to talk. Between the prices and disappointment in the food, we would not go back. 2.5 stars rounded up

Lexi N.

Yelp
If I could rate this place to zero stars, I would it took them 24 hours to bring our food out. I was sweating bullets. They need to invest in a good air-conditioning system. I almost fainted on top of that. Everybody in the restaurant got served before I got served and I'm tired of it square roots do better if I could rate this place a -1,000,000 I would but unfortunately, I have to give it at least the one star to give a review. On top of that the blonde bartender sucks. She forgot my water and she only cares about making an alcoholic drinks because those are the only ones she makes money off of. I'm tired of this place. It's sad to think that they're a thriving bar in Crownpoint when they can't even give me a simple water or turn the air-conditioning on done.

Yelp
Always decent food, huge list of drinks but a little too millennial for me sometimes. Never bad service and food is always good. A good place for couples starting the night with a drink and a snack or a full dinner.

Marilynn M.

Yelp
Our server, Shelby was very helpful since we have never been there before. The service, food & drinks were excellent. Loved the outdoor table! We will definitely go back again & recommend this restaurant to our friends.

Allison C.

Yelp
The restaurant was clean and inviting. The food was excellent. The staff were all amazing, especially our waitress, Ellie. Ask for her. This was our 1st time there and we will be back.

Yelp
Food amazing service a little slow what they were very nice. Big pretzel is the best item
google avatar

Yelp
Went to square roots on a windy and cool saturday morning. I appreciated the large windows on the entrance side; brought in pleasant light and also served for a little people watching. The menu is dense from the beverages to the grub, so probably not somewhere you want to go if you are on a diet or just off a fast. Haha. I had tacos, cheese curds, and some kind of whiskey specialty drink. It all went well together and I was pleased. This place has a cool vibe, gets busy, and has friendly service. When I am back in town I will hit them up again.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place and there other restaurants, we go whenever we can, the wings are so good with that smoke flavor and my fav for dinner is that spicy chicken sandwich which is huge. Service is always on point and love the decor.
google avatar

Shaun H.

Yelp
I nice surprise. We enjoyed our meal immensely. The chicken and dumplings soup is out of this world, packed with flavor. I will say the tacos I had could use better shells. Mine fell apart upon picking them up. I'd recommend trying El Milagro brand it's just a better quality shell. Definitely not a deal breaker. Our waiter was very pleasant and on top of our needs (drinks, napkins etc) he deserved the generous tip. He was good at his job. As for the restaurant itself. It was spacious and clean. Very inviting with a touch of class. I'd recommend eating there. I'll try it again with more guests and see if the experience changes. I hope not

Rosaura A.

Yelp
Decided to give it a second chance and got the "fan favorites" this time but food just isn't good and is overpriced. Also upgraded my fries to "animal fries" for $5 but they were overly smothered in a nasty cheese and another sauce, I couldn't even eat them.
google avatar

Elena Jacobs L.

Yelp
Fun, food, options, lively atmosphere, a great place to meet friends for drinks. I've been there several times and found a new item to try each visit. I haven't been disappointed yet.

Yelp
We have enjoyed the SR patio all summer and I should have done this review long ago. Dined in yesterday with my Mom and husband and had stellar service from Yari. Friendly, knowledgeable, sincere and wasn't put out by all my questions when I decided to order something new. I was in a coffee mood and ordered coffee/ice water and was shocked at how good the coffee was (found out they serve from the roaster down the street: Smalltown Coffee). The food was basically perfect and the restaurant is always super clean, comfy booths. Keep it up, SR! Great addition to the square.

Don R.

Yelp
I have eaten at square roots many times, and it never misses. The service is always quick, and the place has a very upbeat ambience that always puts me in a good mood. As far as food goes there are so many awesome options, but my go to is the meat grazer bowl. The steak is always so tender, and that chimichurri sauce is to die for. I've also had the brisket grilled cheese and it is pretty enjoyable. I think square roots has some of the best appetizers around, my favorite are the stone fired pretzel, and the brisket nachos. The nachos come on a gigantic platter that could serve the whole table. They are loaded with flavor, and the pretzel comes with the best pretzel sauces I've ever had. I always ask for extra beer cheese. Overall this is an amazing place to take a bigger group, but it also could serve perfectly as a date spot.
google avatar

June F.

Yelp
Kelsey was our server and when my son and I asked what she recommended she said she lives the mushroom wrap and the fried chicken sandwich (forgot the name on menu). We took her suggestion and both were delicious! Place is so comfortable and the food is great! We will Definitely be back!
google avatar

Joel B.

Yelp
Good Food. Good Atmosphere. Good Service. Nothing over the top, like so many restaurants make the mistake of doing... This place checks all the right boxes.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
The service is always great, margs are strong! A lot of seating indoor and outdoor which is great. The food is always seasoned perfectly.
google avatar

Kathy F.

Yelp
The wait was well worth it our server Vanessa was amazing the food selection was outstanding and serving size you will not leave hungry. The decor is post industrial with a lot of exposed brick located right downtown in the Square

Mike J.

Yelp
Food was cold had pulled pork and Parmesan fries. Pulled pork was disappointing and there was a hair on the side ketchup container. Heard a lot of good things about this place, but didn't have the same experience.
google avatar

Tyrel D.

Yelp
Food is great! Love the Moscow mules, service is always great. Great ambience for a lunch and drink

Sarah C.

Yelp
Nachos and Salad were good. I'm sad to say the dessert cookie/ice cream was just meh. For $6 having it that small isn't ideal. It should be $3 if its that small and its nothing special. That was the reason why I picked Square Roots was to get a good hot chocolate chip cookie and ice cream and it made the visit just OK for me.

Bob C.

Yelp
Enjoyed the dinner. Drinks were spot on. Had a couple of people in our party with dietary issues that they accommodated very well. Lilly was an excellent server, always present but not distracting. Restaurants need more like her! Warning, if you have garlic challenges, most of the menu contains garlic.

Skylar S.

Yelp
Good place to eat but some of the food is lacking in flavor. The burger was kind of plain tasting. The service was great even when the restaurant was full.
google avatar

Meli N.

Yelp
food is so so good especially the nachos!! service is so so fast!! you for sure need to come here if you are around in the area

Yelp
Great place. Big portions. Nice staff and great service. One of Crownpoint's best restaurants

Yelp
Wow. A killer restaurant in Crown Point. The vibe? Dark and relaxed. The servers? Friendly and helpful! The food? Every bite was perfect. We arrived just before an enormous dinner rush on Saturday night. We were seated quickly. The servers carry handheld ordering devices so as soon as you order something, the kitchen gets to work. We started with the fireside elote dip and this thing is phenomenal. Take your freshly made tortilla chips, scoop up some cheesy, gooey dip filled with corn and inhale that masterful mouthful. So, so, so good! Our server suggested that anything with pulled pork or brisket was out of this world, so I went with the brisket tacos. Truly incredible. The brisket was tender and you could absolutely taste the smokey flavor in the meat. Square Roots takes the time to do their food right! And that explains the line out the door, even on a rainy/snowy Saturday night in January. Major props to everyone involved in this northwest Indiana gem. We'll be back!
google avatar

Ted K.

Yelp
Pretty nice restaurant. Been here a few times...the soups are normally pretty good and are homemade. I would give them five stars but their prices are a little high...$16 for three tacos is a little much...tacos ($16)...a soda ($4)...plus tip (20% = $4) was north of $24. The server we had last time was really nice and attentive. The restaurant windows face west so when the sun is low in the sky you will likely want to let the server know to close the blinds. Otherwise you will want a welding hood to save your eyes from the suns glare off the cars parked in front of the restaurant.
google avatar

Stevie M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times. It's a nice place with great food. Today I brought my family here from out of town and the waitress wasn't that great. Even another waitress grabbed her (without us even asking) because she wasn't paying attention to our table. She was too busy talking to another guy and then sat at a table to count her tips. They had a bunch of people working and there weren't a lot of tables filled so she wasn't that busy.
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
Sat at the bar as there was a wait for a table. Bartenders were friendly, service was quick, food and beere was excellent! Atmosphere is fun and relaxing.
google avatar

Max W.

Yelp
Food and drinks are delicious, their signature old fashioned will put some hair on your chest so take it slow and enjoy the drink. Lots of food to try and it's all very good. Staff is amazing, checking in and making sure everything is to your liking and helping where needed. Interactive and informative. They are also very family friendly and seemed to have dog friendly outside seating as well. Food - 4.75 Staff - 5 Atmosphere - 4.5
