The Best Restaurants in Montreal’s La Petite-Patrie | Eater Montreal

"Named after dishes in which meat and other morsels are wrapped in lettuce leaves, Ssam’s menu features staple Korean fare like bulgogi, bibimbap (including a vegetarian option), jjigae stew, mandu dumplings, and signature Korean fried chicken: regular or sweet and spicy. Those planning an end-of-season barbecue can call to reserve Ssam’s Korean BBQ Pack, including five different marinated meats with kimchi. Pick up orders at their takeout window, or order on DoorDash or UberEats." - Eater Staff

It's ok. Don't expect for the best, but definitely not a waste of money, everyone in my group were satisfied, my dish however left me with 'I should have taken something else'. While not bland, it definitely needs 'a punch'. Service was fine until they got more people. As soon the restaurant filled, they were rushing, forgetting customer service, they even bumped on the head of someone inmy group. They never refilled water, gave us 2 bottles of water in a party of 9. Definitely the staff needs more training. Atmosphere is good for an outing, don't expect much, it's set for a general dining, if you need to eat for a special event, definitely would not recommend here.

Delicious food, sweet staff and great ambience, this resto is a 5/5 for me! The spicy chicken Bibim-Bap was tasty but not too spicy. I love the freshness of that plate. The waiter was very attentive and patient. I love that we got free extras, potatoes and cucumbers, as little snacks and that we got tea!!

Google
an absolute gem! Small menu but the dishes are perfect and authentic. Portions are big and i was not able to finish mine. The potatoes are addicting! Kimchi was not my favourite, only down side. The barley tea was superb! Staff so friendly and the vibe is there.

We went to have Korean BBQ, but unfortunately they discontinued it during the pandemic. But we stayed and tried a variety of dishes. Which was a good decision. Everything was delicious, although maybe not super authentic. I definitely recommend the place if you like delicious East Asian food.

One of my favorite Korean restos in Montreal. The side dishes are perfect compliments to everything on the menu. We were just two people and ate all this. Get beer and soju to enjoy with your meal!

Very good experience! Wasn't expecting a good Korean restaurant in the neighborhood! We were delighted! 4* because Takoyaki was kinda cold like below room temperature. Everything else was delicious! Staff was very helpful and service was incredibly quick!

Yelp
We love Ssam! The name derives from a Korean dish: you wrap BBQ into lettuce leaves essentially. What makes SSAM stand out to me is how cosy and homey it feels. The staff is so welcoming and congenial, and the place is completely unpretentious. The Japchae I had was very filling, but maybe I would have preferred it with chicken? - if I remember well, we get to choose. The ssam is their main dish. They install the grill in front of you, fill it up, and your waiter takes care of the rest, so you get a show and a meal! I'll admit it can get awkward and silent, if I could change one thing about it, it would be the amount of meat that it includes, I can't help it, I want more!. Still, I have always loved going there, I can't bring myself to take a star away because of that..

Yelp
Finally got to try this restaurant! Got the Tteokbokki and fried chicken to share with a friend and the portions are good to share and not feel too bloated afterwards. The service is fast and friendly, it feels very cozy and welcoming. The food was delicious and I would come back for sure to try out the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Beef bibimbap was delicious. Recommend that you order it served in the hot stone plate to crisp up the rice.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant with my cousins last night and it is surprisingly good. Their seafood pancakes are falvourful and crispy. The bibimbap is huge and healthy since it comes with a lot of vegetables. I especially like their beef patty with galbi sauce. Also, they have different flavors of soju (popular Korean alcohol). For those who aren't big in alcohol, you can try grape soju, it tastes almost like juice. Portions are pretty generous considering their price. Service is quick and staffs are friendly. Recommended.

Yelp
Nice restaurant with small but well designed menu which gives you many choices. We ordered Korean fried chicken, bugolgi, and jaigae (kimchi soup in case I can not spell). Everything was very good. The service was very good and friendly. They brought us things we didn't order because we showed an interest. This is another good Montreal restaurant in a city of good restaurants.

Yelp
My family and I stumbled upon SSAM by chance, as we were walking around the area and the decor looked cute. We were greeted by friendly staff and the atmosphere was very cozy. We didn't expect much, as the restaurant wasn't advertised much from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised - we discovered a gem! The food was amazing and authentic. We ordered a bibimbap, which was generously portioned and flavourful, a pancake and order of rice cakes to share and ramen. Everything was very tasty and the service was impeccable - owners are very welcoming and friendly! Would recommend to anyone, and will continue to go back. It is nice to have a tasty Korean restaurant in the area and not have to venture all the way downtown!
