I can't express how much I appreciate all the care that was extended to my dad during his stay over the last 4 weeks. My younger brother and I were born here just under 4 decades ago and I sincerely wish we had returned under better circumstances. I want to mention Dr Shaw, Dr Uni, Dr Begum, the other doctors and surgeons, the oncology and ICU departments, the nurses Tiffany, Clearance, Kevin, Cleary, Glen, Meredith, JD, and the countless other hospital staff that showed compassion, empathy, and unwavering care to my dad and all the other patientsthey were charged with attending to. I am so thankful for everyone that made my dad's stay and our family's visits easier, and how they continue to tend to my dad while he recovers. I also want to especially thank Miss Cheryl, one of the chaplains, for visiting my father and giving us all extra strength in this trying time. It truly made our family feel like my dad was in the best hands in the city. Thank you all so very much again. 🙂🙏

I've been here several times for a friend,, the staff is always attentive to the medical needs of patients,sits on the outer side of U.T. campus, very clean and sanitized environment, with a security guard on duty at all times.

I absolutely love this hospital. So much better than Florida hospitals. I was at TCAI specifically where Dr. Andrea Natale ablated my a fib 6 years ago. I love coming to Austin to see him and the staff. I had a routine loop recorder change. I cannot rate this hospital highly enough. Best in the country, if not the world for A Fib. They gave me my life back.

I had an incredibly positive experience at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin. From the moment I arrived, the entire staff made me feel safe, respected, and well cared for. The doctors were not only highly skilled but also took the time to truly listen and explain everything clearly, which gave me a lot of comfort and confidence in my care. Dr Natale and his nursing team are phenomenal. The nurses were absolutely outstanding — consistently kind, attentive, and patient, no matter how busy things got. Their compassion made a huge difference during my stay. I was also impressed by the food delivery team, who were cheerful and prompt, always making sure I got what I needed and that my meals were right. Even the cleaning staff went above and beyond to keep my room spotless while being incredibly warm and respectful — you could tell they took pride in their work. Every interaction I had — whether clinical or not — reflected a deep culture of care, professionalism, and humanity. St. David’s isn’t just a hospital; it’s a place where people genuinely look out for you. Highly recommend to anyone in need of top-notch medical care in a supportive and compassionate environment.

I would like to give another five stars to the medical staff at St.Davids. I've had three surgeries there now, and I can't say enough about how proffessional, pleasant, competent, and friendly every person was, from registration through discharge, and my medical team have been. Thank you for such a well run establishment. Although my three surgeries(foot/ bilateral mastectomy w/deip flap reconstruction/ and a revision) have been a temporary disruption to my life, and a little scary while anticipating them, the staff at St.Davids have made each one a pleasant and successful experience. Staff is friendly and kind. Allison, Dr. Manuel PA needs a refresher course on how to show warmth and friendliness. She is very smart and to the point. My husband and I were not greeted by Allison and she didn’t introduce herself. We understand that the staff is busy but a simple good morning or hello doesn’t take much time. And it makes us feel better and less scared when we are greeted in a warm and friendly manner. I mentioned Allison to my boss (he recommended Dr Manuel) and he agreed that she seemed to be cold… a bit detached. Not friendly at all!

I never thought id give a 5 star review for a hospital. But every staff person at St. Davids on 32nd st. Have earned it. It is an exceptionally caring hospital that strives to make your stay a great one. Im very thankful for being able to have this hospital for my surgery and recovery. It has ruined me for trying any other.

The check in and waiting areas were clean and uncrowded. The actual surgical procedure was done in a very professional manner. All the nurses were great. Dr. Faas was extremely competent, and the anesthesia was easily administered . The only suggestion I would make is to have the registration clerk informed on how to better answer the question "Do I need to give my phone, glasses and billfold to my driver?" The answer I got was "It's up to you."

My physician Gaurang Shah and my Nurse Claire Fazzone were amazing. They did exactly what you want a Dr and Nurse to do. I felt comfort and relief and cared for and I was seen within 20 mins of checking in. I was in extreme pain 8/10 due to a bad tooth infection that had been hurting me all week until I could not bare the pain any longer. I'm able to come home pain free and get this taken care of tomorrow at a dentist. I also got 3 days off work note and I didn't even ask so that was also awesome. This was the best experience I've had going to the emergency room. I don't have insurance at the moment and that's no problem they will be billing me. I went to two other emergency rooms and was told to pay up front before being seen which I understand but was not able to pay hundreds of dollars this day.

Be extremely cautious and careful when getting anything done in this hospital. While my surgery was a success, I was not provided proper pain relief medication at my doctor's recommendation for nearly 12 hours post surgery. The order was in, but the staff simply was not available to provide the drip install. Also, pay close attention to your bill. While my surgeon and the hospital were in-network, they selected to use an out-of-network componenet to my care. I was not told about this and was billed out of network while staying in the hospital for that part. Thank god for the No Surprises Act, making the charges only $700 vs the thousands of additional dollars in the bill. But I was not told about this until more than a year later. So even though my surgery took me well over my more than $5,000 max out of pocket, I now have to pay an additional $700. Add into that... I was sent a letter so much later that I can't even appeal it with my insurance. Extrmely shady practice. Very disappointed and would not recommend this hospital.

There is a ballad waiting to be written - something along the lines of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" perhaps - about this woman who is strong, obstinate and disturbingly determined. The ballad should also be about the place that heroically enabled her stubbornness and resolve. Here's the raw data, and wildly, every bit of it is true. I pieced it together after speaking with about a dozen people. 10 weeks after having undergone two heart procedures, my nearly deaf 93-year-old mom sets out on her own for an adventure. Her goal? The scrumptious lox bagel at Mary's Cafe. She missteps exiting the car and... kaboom! She falls and breaks her hip. She is literally across the street from St. David's Medical Center. A kind man rushes to her aid. Together, at her command, they get her BACK IN THE CAR. SHE DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND GOES HOME. There, she realizes that she can't get out of the car. She is half in-half out. After ten minutes, an innocent passerby in our quiet residential neighborhood hears her bleating plea and - again - at her command, helps get her back in the car, whereupon mom DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND BACK TO ST DAVID'S. It took three nurses and the manager of concierge services to extract her from her old beater Honda - the one with manual door locks - and it ended up in valet parking alongside the Porsches and a Ferrari. Mom would go on to have a nine inch nail inserted in her hip and spend two weeks at St. David's, one week in the Medical Center and one week in St. David's Rehabilitatiom Hospital. Here she was treated with dignity and compassion by every single person we encountered. And there were tons of them. Every effort was made to make her feel comfortable. Cozy even. The staff made her laugh. Encouraged her. Listened carefully to every word she said. Her in-house doctors watched over so thoughtfully. The physical and occupational therapists helped her to understand that she *could* meet her goal of regaining her independence. Yes, there were times when a nurse promised to bring her something and then forgot, but really, things couldn't have gone better. The food? Not too shabby, and if you are a visitor, there are alternating pop up caterers for things like sushi, Indian and Mexican food, every week day. Parking? Free if you're over 65. Just scan your driver's license instead of your parking stub. And my mom's old beater Honda rubbing shoulders with the glamor cars in Valet? I drove it out myself... free of charge.

I was supposed to get a follow up phone call this morning about my recovery progress from surgery. I answered questions from a survey and after that they said that's all they needed from me and to "have a nice day".

I walked in at 10:30am discharged at 1:15 then again discharged at 4:30. ST DAVID'S on 32 seconde street, is not a hospital to go into if you suffer from depression. Thier lack of communication and concerned for thier patient. There was no explanation of my results of my test till after hell broke loose. Doctor yelled and raised his voice accuse me with a bad attitude when he was causing a scene. Took another dept to put this bad doctor in check, and he was told to apologize for his action. Not sincerely and was not accepted. Being abused brought back memories. Couldn't look at him. Crying for hours with no help to calm me down. I placed my life and wellbeing in this doctor. Supposedly to be professional and ​took a oath to save lives not to be destroyed, and he did. I will not recommend this hospital to my worse enemy. All I hear is we're looking into it, for months! nothings is for free but after receiving the worse treatment of my life, paying for horrible ​services is down right unjust. Please go somewhere else if you want proper care! Will not be coming back

Come before 5pm if you can so you don't get stuck with the night shift change! Went to the ER last night for my boyfriends uncontrollable GI symptoms, head pain, fever, etc and got there at 5:45pm, got seen by a DR by 6:30, of course we came at shift change so that's where things went south, things were super fast from 6:30-7 got all the blood tests, ekg, cat scans etc and then basically from 7-10:30pm we were just sitting in 2 chairs waiting really for nothing because all the tests show they were read and executed at 7:30pm but they were so busy no ER rooms or regular hospital rooms were available they said. The poor person next to us had been there since 10am and still had no room to be admitted to the regular hospital. 5 star review for 5:45pm-7pm with nurse Ryan, radiologist Shay, and Dr Yadav. They were super friendly, kind, and knowledgeable even when they were at the end of their 12 hour shift they gave us exceptional care. If I could give 0 stars to the night crew nurse / care after that I would they were rude, short spoken and 0 compassion for any of the patients in our area that were there.

Absolutely MARVELOUS hospital! I had major surgery a few weeks ago and had to spend 10 days in St. David's afterwards due to some minor complications. I'd never spent more than a night in any hospital and I was very uncomfortable for the first 4-5 days. The doctors, nurses, techs and other staff that helped treat me were nothing short of fantastic. Everyone was incredibly helpful and empathetic. If you have to spend time in a hospital, it's no fun. However if you're treated as well as I was, you'll end up forgetting the rough part of the stay and remember how great the people were!

I had a nasty cut on my finger Sunday evening and reluctantly turned myself in to the emergency room at St Davids. I expected to wait hours and hours, to be there half the night, but I was pleasantly surprised. They took excellent care of me. They were prompt, friendly, and very efficient in stitching up my finger and I was out the door a little over two hours which amazed me. I've just received a follow up text to make sure I'm feeling better and ask if I want to give any feedback. It's good to know we have a top quality emergency room for minor emergencies like mine. Kudos.!

If the care persons that came and went out of my Mother's room were a 100% on care or being on the same page when asked questions, I'd say 95% of them are incompetent. The house keeper was a better care giver and showed more compassion than the shift change nurses. I had to beg for them to give my Mother a wash down after 10 days not able to care for herself. Bed sores. Irrigation from the Purewick tinkle stick, old blood sitting around her arm IV. Confusion on when she ate, what to eat and if she ate at all. I had so insist that they put leg circulators on her, they said they should have been on her the whole time she was down. They said turning her would need to be stated by her Dr. , when mentioned to him, Mother should have been repositioned every 2 hours or so. My sister came into the room to find our Mother cuddle up with a needle, used gloves and medical trash on her bed. We hardly left the bedside because of their negligence. There is more reasons to list. Do not think the head nurse on floor or the person above her will fix issues, they do not return calls and just want you to forget.

The medical personnel are very good, almost without exception. Unfortunately, they are horribly understaffed, and quality suffers badly. No physical therapy (or any other kind of therapy); no baths; no guidance for family as to home care; inappropriate food; a charge nurse disdainful of the professional standards of her profession. This is not the institution it once was; the Foundation should look very carefully at management and profit-taking. The city deserves better.

My mother went in for surgery October 8. This hospital has the worst communication I've ever dealt with. My mom normally is at Seton. (They are very attentive responsive. Call you with updates. Give you update updates when you call this hospital.)I've called numerous times and so has my brother the nurses station always has excuses or makes up stories about why they can't give you an update at the time and never returned your calls. They've lost her dentures and nobody wants to be held accountable for them or will they talk to me about them stay away from this hospital. If you love your loved ones do not let them go there.

I delivered my baby via c-section at St.David mid October. Although this was my first pregnancy and delivery so i can't compare it to any other facility but I personally had phenomenal care the 4 days that we were there. Every single maternity nurse pre, post op as well as during recovery were amazing. They truly respected my needs and wishes. No one was pushing me to do anything that i didn't want. I made it very clear from pre op time that i won't be breastfeeding and they respected that wish all the way and never pushed me to even try it. The nursery nurses and pediatric doctor were phenomenal. We are forever great full that we had such an amazing time during such stressful time of our lives. The level of care and attention to detail that i got was impeccable.

My family member had surgery at ST David Main this month (September 2025) in Austin, TX. We went to that hospital for the Neurosurgeons excellent reputation. The surgery went well. When the surgery and recovery was complete he was sent to the neuro/spine unit. Once we arrived on the unit we noted that the RN and nursing tech assigned to his care were also assigned to 3 isolation patients. One patient was in respiratory isolation (droplet precautions) and 2 in contact precautions as noted by the signage on the patient room doors. This is not an acceptable assignment for a fresh post op spine case. This was no fault of the nursing team but rather a failure of the organization to prioritize safe patient outcomes. We asked for him to be relocated and for a new assignment to an RN who was not simultaneously taking care of isolation patients. This was done and the unit leader was very nice. We did have to keep asking at each change of shift if the RN or Tech had isolation patients. And in some instances, we asked, for example, that the tech not enter his room to provide care since the tech had been assigned isolation patients. The issue of concern is cross contamination; microorganisms can be transferred from patients on isolation precautions to fresh surgical patients via the staff's hands or clothing. Significant precautions must be taken and unfortunately I observed poor technique. The discharge process was not patient centered and offered no privacy once he was taken to the "discharge lounge," where the nurse read his discharge instructions to us while he sat in a wheelchair in the center of about 8 other patients. No assistance was offered to get him into the our vehicle. Our primary concern was the lack of lack of appropriate nursing assignments. Or a better question might be why are they placing isolation patients on a ortho/neuro post op unit? It is clear that we all must be our own advocate when it comes to healthcare. Ask a lot of questions and don't be squeamish about observing for simple but effective things like hand hygiene. Demand it.

My care at St Davids was top notch. EVERY employee from the Dr's to the nurses to the aides to cleaning staff were phenomenal and super nice. Dr. McKenzie and his staff are excellent. I knew I would be well taken care of

Last summer my disabled daughters was at St David's Central and was given terrible care. There had been a lot of cuts s to staff there and it was a very difficult situation but the atmosphere was really horrible. unfortunately it led to a terrible mistake from the hospita. . My daughter was not given her seizure medications for over 5 days because the emergency room pharmacist tech position had been cut and medications weren't transmitted to the hospItalist knew nothing about them. Because of this my daughter after being released had a severe seizure that ended up with star flighted to Seton Dell Hospital where she had to receive seizure medication through an IV drip. This is because St. David's now runs their hospitals under a corporate model and not as a medical facilit. Profit over patient care is how St. David's now operate.

This is the second time we have had extreme problems with this hospital. When my son was first injured almost 2 years ago, he was paralyzed and they put him on the wrong mattress so he got a huge pressure wound. . When he went to rehab rehabilitation, he could only do 30% of the exercise exercises because of this sore that was unnecessary. My son also could not feed himself at the time and they would just drop his food off. This was an injury with no trauma whatsoever so my son and all of us were all just in shock and haunted. He is paralyzed from the collarbone down. so my son and all of us were all in shock and haunted. He is paralyzed from the collarbone down. He was there just weeks ago. his caretaker called EMS and she followed the ambulance and he was unconscious and they would not let her go back for a good hour. I'm horrified to know that my son was unconscious and paralyzed from the collarbone down with strangers around him. My son's caretaker kept mentioning that he had soiled his clothes when he went unconscious and he needed to be changed immediately or he would get a bed sore. After nearly 3 hours, my son was still sitting in fecal matter and urine. There is no excuse for this from any hospital. EVER!!! It is disgusting and is a practice that needs to be changed immediately. They don't seem to know at all what to do with paralyzed people. I did find out from someone there that they avoided his room because no one seemed to know what in the world to do with him. He's a human being and a Marine veteran, who is one of the nicest people you could ever meet yet they shunned him and treated him poorly. He had a huge blistering rash to the point that his testicles were bleeding. I have left messages with the advocate and somebody else at the hospital, but nobody has returned my phone call. I will continue to spread this word because my last review I took down because instead of calling me, they kept calling my son who was at rehabilitation and at the could not even answer his phone.. I don't know what's going on there, but I would go to Lakeway Baylor Scott White if you need to go to the ER. Better care hands down.

Run ! this is the worst hospital in Austin tx , literally the have the worst food agents that work here and they say your satisfaction is most important but the alway get your order wrong ,let's not talk about the care is just as bad as the kitchen they have no compassion for the client . It a get in and get them out type of system no matter if you feel bad and feel you might need more watching over . people have said I wanna stay get more care and they still will release you and you'll be dead on the side of the road . that's actually happened very tru story .when you call the *4777 line witch leads you to the agent that take your order the people working there are not on point they get the order wrong all the time . don't go here they need to shut this place down completely.Dont put your life in there hands go somewhere else save yourself and your family members. trust me you want be frustrated but if you go here your gonna asked your self what the hell was I thinking . save yourself the trouble of the frustration and lack of compassion... absolutely not one compassionate bone in their bodies. I mean no compassion at all.

I went to ER on Friday afternoon with incredible back pain. Was treated immediately, diagnosed and transferred up to a room in less than an hour, there was no waiting for me. At that point I was preemptively diagnosed with a disc sitting on my nerve which caused this unbelievable pain. That afternoon I meet with neurologic surgeon, Dr. Tumu (absolutely fantastic) who confirmed disagnosis and scheduled surgery for Monday. I remained in hospital thru weekend being treated with a good deal of pain medication. The only complaint I have of the medical center is they have really uncomfortable beds for someone who is pretty much unable to move freely. Otherwise I would highly recommend St. Davids, the staff and all those who helped me. Dr. Tumu did such a fantastic job that I was able to go home the day after surgery and am now recovering just fine. Thanks to St. Davids

I had to bring my wife here for emergency room visit and overnight stay and I thought I would clue you in on what you will experience when you get here. The first thing you notice about coming here for an emergency room visit is trying to figure out where you pull in to. We drove around the hospital and the emergency entrance was blocked by a truck so we had to go through a different entrance. Thankfully, a staff member grabbed a wheelchair and rolled her into the emergency room where she waited in the waiting room for about three or four minutes until she was admitted. One thing you need to know is that it's best to park at garage #1 on 30th St if you're a visiting family member. They have a few other garages, but they are dedicated for other purposes, which is why you should park at #1. You can get your parking ticket validated, but there are some restrictions. If you're over 65 or clergy, you park for free. I got my ticket validated from the emergency room, but was not able to get the next day validated, so 4 hrs cost me $8. If this is your first time here, it can be quite the maze. At some point during the emergency room visit, you (not the patient) will be visited by an admin who will take down your insurance information and get you to sign and initial several legal documents (which would take a long time to read if you had the time) on an iPad for billing. I found out this is definitely the hospital you want to be at when experiencing a stroke or a heart attack. I did not have time to read any of the reviews prior to coming here and you'll notice they vary wildly. Also, I don't think it's possible to give this place a comprehensive review due to all the different aspects that this hospital encompasses. After the emergency room staff stabilizes you, you are moved into a holding room and you can be there for many hours. During those hours, housekeeping, staff and specialists will visit with you. It took about 10 hours from the check in till we got her own private hospital room. There is a recliner in the room in case a family member wants to stay overnight in the room. I would like to mention that they have a good menu when it comes to ordering dinner (for the patient) and the food is better than you'd expect. We were impressed with the doctors and staff. Be sure to bring a cell phone charger since none is provided. I'll add more to this review when the billing comes since that is part of the final experience. Update: Got the final bill. Thank God we had Blue Cross Blue Shield because an overnight stay plus all the lab work was $47,500.

The photo i'll attach is gross, but i include it to show the kinds of bloody injuries that St. David's ER ignores for so many hours that you leave and go elsewhere. Even when Brackenridge ER was waaaaay over capacity, they NEVER ignored a wound like this for 4 hours.

I was in St. David's for10 days after a major surgery. I particularly want to give a shoutout to the 5th floor Oncology nurses. I couldn't have asked for a better care team. All the nurses were kind, efficient, responsive and truly cared about me. My doctors were amazing and everyone I encountered during my stay was helpful and compassionate. I would recommend St. David's Central Austin to anyone needing hospital care.

I kept going back and forth on how I would rate my experience here. I had a minor surgery here and it did go smoothly. I am hence alive. I have had surgery before but not at this location. I had some interaction with St. David's before my surgery day. This included emails and texts. I did not speak with the nurse until the afternoon before my surgery. I thought that was a little late in the game in case I needed to be off of certain medications longer. Luckily I am a nurse so I have some medical knowledge. My main concern was more or less with my surgeon's office which I will review separately. Their communication was nonexistent. The nursing staff during my procedure was excellent. During admissions, there was a nurse in training. Both of the nurses were too nice but I am not the typical happy-go-lucky person so probably not as appropriate on my part. I did think the IV insertion was not the greatest but the one nurse got it in at the same place she started. I also loved my post op nurse because we talked about aesthetics as I was waking up. Overall, I do like other hospitals in the area better than this location. The staff was great but I do feel their communication could improve.

First off I just want to say this is a horrible hospital I would not even bring my dog here I came in with an on going issue with my neck which the mri from another hospital shows that my hardware in my neck from a cervical fusion was done 2 years ago where its located at my spine had softened and is collapsing and I need stabilization surgery well I came in there with worsening symptoms and they immediately called in a stroke team the doctor was not listening to me at all they stabbed my finger so hard to get a glucose level that I bled all over the place and was left with a pretty badly bruised finger they had to stick me again cause the nurse or who ever couldn't get the meter to work then they canceled the stroke cause I wasn't having a stroke like I told them after the second attempt with an Iv they put me in a room with other people not a problem but what I do have a problem with is i told them I wanted the Iv out and wanted to go home the nurse can he was really rude yanked my iv out forceably and it started bleeding everywhere all over the floor and I made the statement that y'all are letting me bleed all over the place again he slapped me with the gauge and wrapped my arm up with blood all over it and stated you will be fine they are ignorant and rude and should not be in that job field if they are going to treat patients like that the doctor did not care or listen to what I had to say and when I reached my breaking point they bruised me up and sent me on my way needless to say stay away from this hospital if you are sick or a loved one needs help go somewhere else honestly when the nurse yanked that Iv out they way he did he is lucky I controlled my self cause what I wanted to do to him would've landed me in a whole lot of trouble

A mixed bag. It took them 20 minutes to have an idea of what was wrong, 2 hours to complete the test to confirm it, then 9 more hours to have me in emergency surgery for appendicitis. They take Sendero HMO plans.2/3 people I'd recommend help you , Some great professionals like Ryan, Abby, Wanda... then the 1/3. An anesthesiologist who mocked me mispronouncing my own name while in pain saying once I say it I can be helped (he repeated this with a smile). Another nurse assistant who told me to stop crying when my pain meds wore off and walked away and forced injections into me with gusto that caused the iv arm site to burst into more of an open wound compared to the other side - I asked her to go slower please and she continued at the same pace and her reply was, "I was going slow." The food was ok, but my doctor put me on an eat anything diet I was suspicious of, so I ordered with my own caution after stomach surgery, then when I went home the instructions read soft food diet- some neglect here but at least they did the surgery same day.

They were very friendly in the emergency room. We're just thrilled with the medical staff that helped us

If I could I would give negative stars. The cafeteria has been not giving my friend his food on time or at all for multiple times when he has pre ordered his food. Also I don't know the name of the person in the cafeteria but she has been super rude on the when he gose to place the order.

While experiencing a medical emergency while on vacation, my husband was admitted for 10 days. While there were some nurses that were more competent than others, surgeon Dr Pham was a true delight to have on our medical team. He explained everything clearly so that even I (who has no medical training) could understand. The outcome was even better than we had hoped thanks to Dr Pham correcting shortcomings of some of the nurses training in real time! And we had a great view from the recovery room!

I must say. I got seen by several doctors and a X Ray within hour excellent service compared to Dell Seton where I was there for a hour and half without any acknowledgement

Took my ex in because he was acting erratically. He hadn't slept well for days, was dehydrated and had a history of c-diff. When I took him in I told the ER staff to check him for c-diff. Crickets. When he was admitted to the hospital I told them to check him for c-diff. Crickets again. When I talked with the doctor I told her he needed to be checked for c-diff. Her response was that they usually didn't check for c-diff for at 48 hours after THEY saw indications of it. So... here he was in the hospital for about three days before they finally ran a test for c-diff. Suddenly it was like a fire alarm had gone off... he was moved, isolated and anyone who went in had to don the paper gown and disposable gloves. All the while, he was acting erratically, to the point of requiring security, and the head floor nurse just wanted him out. They finally started a course of an antibiotic specifically for this bacteria, but the head floor nurse was so afraid to actually TREAT him that, when I visited for about 4-5 hours, no one came in to check on him at all. I finally took him home (he was still infected with no improvement) because I realized he wasn't getting any care in the hospital at all. For discharge, the doctor prescribed a different antibiotic that, of course, actually made him worse after we got home. His primary care physician finally got him the specific antibiotic needed to cure c-diff and, though it took about a month, everything slowly went back to normal and he's as he was before the c-diff took him. I will NEVER take anyone to this hospital EVER again. I think that if they were bleeding out in the street, they would get better care from a passerby. C-diff is HIGHLY contageous and a decent hospital confronted with even the suggestion of an infection would test for it immediately! Go to a hospital that cares to get you well and keep others healthy, too. I will say that there were some excellent nurses there, but they can only do what they are permitted and/or instructed to do. Management is sorely lacking in empathy and care.

As with my original review, even though some staff are excellent, the stunning incompetence of some staff is so egregious that I can't justify more than one star. I brought a loved one (T.) to the ER for extreme pain from old neck and back injuries, and sudden paralysis (extremely limited ability to move all limbs). The staff MANHANDLED her from the wheelchair onto the bed, FACE FIRST, all the while barking at her ("You need to move! You need to help us!") while T. was crying and screaming in pain and trying to explain that she was TRYING but she f***ing COULDN'T move. The staffer also kept sighing annoyingly and complained that T. was too heavy (174 lbs, I saw multiple staffers there that are a good 100 pounds heavier). T. begged them to let me in the room to help, and one staffer wanted to do it, but the mean staffer refused. When you go to a hospital you expect staff to help you, not injure, hurt, and yell at you. Oh, and about item #7 in my other review, after my bad experience with the PT staffer, they came and put the sticker on the room door indicating that the family member was "abusive". Right. St. David's staff should try looking in the mirror sometime.

I want to give a huge thank you to my nurse Wanda. She is so kind & loving. She goes beyond to help her patients out. She is by far the best nurse I've ever had in Texas or anywhere else

I got the tee/ cardioversion done last week. The nurses were nice but 5 times to get my IV. 2 doses of Annesthesia instead of 1 because the 1st dose didn't go to my vein so I didn't go to sleep.

I was admitted to the emergency room after blacking out three times on September 21, 2023. After numerous imaging and diagnostic tests it was determined that I needed a surgical procedure for an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD image included) which controls the heart rhythm which was performed on September 28th. During the entire time of my stay, I was treated with the utmost care and respect by everyone, including housekeeping, food service, nursing, imaging, nursing, and, of course, the medical staff--all of whom were top-notch in their fields. I might also add that the food service, which is also "menu-based" is also quite palatable. It's not what you'd expect at a restaurant, but I'd consider some of it quite good to excellent. I realize that there is a shortage of staffing, especially among nursing staff, but at no time did I experience any delay in care. Also, this was the third time I have had major surgery at St. David's Medical Center, and the previous two occasions went just as smoothly. Additionally, I need to return there for cervical spine neurosurgery within the next month or so, and I am confident that I will be in good hands. Last, but not least, follow-up has been exceptional, both from the hospital and the practitioners.

Possibly the worst ER experience ever. Only good part was that the Doctor was pleasant and took her time with me. I was visiting Austin for work and had sudden onset of abdominal pain. I called the advice line for my provider back home and they recommended I visit the nearest ER. When I arrived here is what happened: 1. Registration put down the wrong birth date in the system and on my wrist band. Copied it incorrectly from my ID. (This matters when identifying a patient) 2. When placing the IV to get blood, the first arm would not draw blood. The tourniquet was painfully tight to the point where my hand went numb. At first the nurse missed the vein. Then the nurse said he found the vein but no blood was flowing. So instead of trying the other arm (despite me pleading for him to do so) he decides to press and push on my arm like it was a tube of toothpaste to get blood flowing. Then he decides to pump saline into the IV to "check if it is in there". What if it wasnt???! Then he starts playing with the now empty saline syringe trying to extract blood with clear air in the syringe. Cant an air bubble cause a problem?!!! He eventually moved to the other arm anyway. Then, instead of removing the failed IV, he just keeps it in there and says "now they have options if they want to give you fluids". 30 mins later, I asked that he remove it, because "options"...really!?. So he did. 3. They take me back to a room and hook me up to everything. At one point I needed to use the bathroom so they unhook the heart monitor and pressure cuff and off I went. When I get back, I call a nurse to help me get plugged in again, and she says "you're fine, no need to plug you back in"...then why was I plugged in to begin with!!!!!!!!???????? 4. Immediate request for a CT scan without ever talking to a Doctor. This wasnt a huge issue since they were suspecting appendicitis, but it would have been nice for the Doctor to talk to me before radiating me. Get my thoughts on the matter...hear the story from the horse's mouth. This eventually happened because I requested it. 5. When discharging me, the nurse trainee was asked if she felt comfortable removing an IV. She said yes and proceeded to do so. The dressing was so loose that I bled through it by the time I stepped out of the room. I dont blame the trainee, but the supervising nurse should have checked that it was done correctly. I was more worried that some slip up while evaluating me would kill me then the real reason I was there. Turns out no appendicitis, just a bad experience. The Doctor was kind, pleasant, and took her time explaining things. So that's the one good thing. I hope I never need the ER in Austin again, but if I do, this would be the last place I go.

Piss poor ER. All health systems have gone down the drain First off ... They want to give everyone an IV when u reach the ER. Ridiculous. Went in for throat cultures and they were never sent out... what was the point of any of this. Ran by moody nurses, and seen by PA. No doctors in tow and will be billed by all. No compassion.

St. David's is one of the worst. I do not recommend the care here, majority of the nurses are terrible no bedside manner and dismissive to any type of request. The few good nurses can't make up for the low quality no personality having nurses they hire here. They act like we work for them.

The entire staff at Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute and the staff of St. David's Medical Center's PCU unit were professional. Absolutely no complaints with anyone. Nurse Karen Hill showed compassion, knowledge, and hospitality above and beyond the rest of the excellent staff. ​Dr. Andrea Natale is truly at the top of his game. Thank you.

spent the entire evening after surgery there & it was hell. I'm BPH and they would not allow me to stand and pee into a urine receptacle. So i had to subject my self to being catheterized by a nurse, who turned out to be completely incompetent. She rushed it & the only thong coming out was my blood & she was still shoving this glass weapon into me in spite of my OBVIOS PAIN, MORE LIKE AN ASSAULT! Finally i threaten to leave even if I HAD to CRAWL OUT OF there and the HEAD nurse allowed me to finally STAND & PEE, BY WHICH, i got ALL THE PEE IN ME OUT OF MY now very BLOODY PENUS. I left the next day swearing never to return! SHE should be FIRED, but the whole place was that BAD. MEDICAL MAFIA AT it's WORSE! ---A LUNATIC ASYLUM!!!

St. David's Medical Center's neuroscience unit was wonderful, treating me after my stroke last week. And all the doctors, nurses and staff were so responsive to my questions and addressed all my concerns In a very caring manner. It was hospital care at its best. I got the same kind of attention when I was moved to the Cardio unit for the final three days of my stay. Loved all my nurses - especially Heather, Kori, Meli, Abigail. They folded into the work of the heart and brain imaging doctors and techs, giving me the best care! I'll always be grateful. 5 Stars!

I took my mentally handicapped sister to the ER at this location. She had just finished an appointment with Dr. Bode, new Cardiologist at St. David's. Dr. Bode did nothing to help my sister and refused to talk to me, her LAR ( guardian). He said he didn't have time. He dismissed my sister from his office and she was desperately trying to breathe. Her respirations were 50 at rest. She looked like a fish out of water. I tried to walk her to the car but she ran out of breath. That's when I just decided to take her to the St. David's ER next door. The valet noticed how hard it was for my sister to breathe and they brought her a wheel chair. I wheeled her into the main ER door and had to go through one of those airport security stands where they scan you for guns. The scanner went off on my sister and the wheel chair bumped into the blown up generic made airport security. It then tumbled into a wall. The security lady came around and acted like we were criminals. She started demanding to look in my (disabled wheelchair bound short of breath)sister's purse. She was rude and this was already starting like a bad nightmare. The triage guy was sweet and sympathetic. He got my sister back pretty quick. My sister was assigned to Dr. Long, a self proclaimed veteran ER doc. He came in asked the minimal questions, ordered the ER protocol for Shortness of breath. That included Spiral CT to rule out a PE, UA ( that I requested), CBC ( to rule out infection and anemia), one set of Troponin( to look for an acute heart attack, an EKG, and tried to order more troponin levels. I refused. My sister sat at the St. David's ER for hours desperate to get a deep breath. Her respirations were 50-60 at rest. Her O2 fluctuated from 94-98. No one gave her O2or a breathing treatment. Dr Long came back with a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection and trace pulmonary effusion. I told him I was frustrated because none of this explained her desperation of air. I begged him to give her a breathing treatment and he refused. He based that on lack of wheezing. I explained that he was wrong. I heard her wheeze. I also witnessed him not listening to accurate breath sounds. I told him that and he got extremely offended. I then asked again for a breathing treatment and reminded him of the complications from asthma. He refused! This was a poor experience and I'll never let my sister be seen by this doctor again. He is not a good doctor. He is a ER protocol puppet. I will be switching my sister's cardiologist, as well. Dr. Bode failed to do an accurate exam or speak to me, my sister's legal guardian. He dismissed her from an office visit when she was gasping for air. Luckily, another physician at the Austin State Supportive Living center, felt it was important my sister could breathe. She got the breathing treatments she desperately needed. St. David's is getting thousands of dollars for the time and wallet book work up Dr. Long ordered. He didn't address the reason she went to the ER and he dismissed her without caring about her breathing. He is not a good doctor! I'm extremely disappointed in this ER. The nurses and MAs were very attentive but clearly overworked.

Really poor shitty service I been here since 11 am they poked me 3 times and once in my hand to get lab work done then another 2 hours go by they call my name and ask me for a urine specimen so I give them one little did I know I'd have to walk around the hospital with a bag and little cup of pea it's so filthy and disgusting here ppl ain't even cleaning the waiting area

I'm still at 1 10 years after my stroke was treated as a migraine. First at Bee Cave ER then at main Hosp on 32nd. I'm disabled and the way the neurology/stroke treatment was in Dec 2013 was a train wreck. I've since then seen it with a family member at Dell Seton and at St Luke's in S.A. it was wonderful. Yes, angry review and I tell everyone at every chance do not go to St. David's for anything worse than a splinter. They may have changed their procedures but it is too big of a gamble to find out. I think?? they may have reached out after my first review but I couldn't bring myself to see them. Be your and your loved ones advocate and stand firm with "what else could it be" and insist docs treat for the worst, not the least.

My daughter presented to the ED last night with a profusely bleeding tongue. Extremely rare. She has an unusual aneurism. She was seen by a PA not a doctor and sent home. Her tongue swelled and bled to the point of her now not able to speak. A PA is not trained to make a diagnosis like this she should have been admitted a cbc drawn at the very least and observed for airway obstruction. She wasn't even referred to an ENT .

A little bundle of joy came into this world on December 17th and the doctors and nursing staff at St. David's welcomed her with open arms. Kudos also goes to a meal delivery woman of which I failed to catch her name (maybe Jennifer), yet that never failed to make our days ever so happier with her contagious smile and friendly spirit. As with some new stork drop-offs, there are instances where a baby might need to spend time in the NICU. Our angel spent almost two weeks there before coming home. 24 hour care ensued with a whole wealth of knowledge extended from all the fantastic nurses. And while there's so much more I'd love to say about everyone that made this new life transition flow ever so smoothly, I'll make this review short by just saying Thank you for everything!

Slow service and unequipt service in emergency situations. My family member passed in their care and I just dont have the heart to do this review.

This hospital is so slow and does not do anything to help I wish them the best but highly do not recommend

I recently had a loved one transferred to St David's Neurological floor from a rural hospital. Everyone, from nurses to Drs and cafeteria staff, was NICE. Please thank your employees for their kindness and incredible work ethic. I was very impressed and grateful for their efforts. Trish Griffith

I am 84 years old and have visited my share of ER's over my lifetime and this goes back to the 1950's. I would put the St Davids ER at the bottom of the list. I have never been treated which such a lack of compassion and such an uncaring attitude by all involved, except for the young lady who checked me in, she was very concerned that I was in pain. She must have been new or maybe just a sensitive compassionate person. On Tuesday night, Oct 10, I had a gout attack, not my first by any means. Though I could wait it out but by Friday evening I knew I was in for another sleepless night, so I opted to go to the ER. I entered the ER between 4 and 4:30 pm and was admitted immediately, by the nice young woman at the check in desk. I was then sent to a room to wait. I waited about an hour (5:30 or so) and a nurse came in, introduced herself, said she would be taking care of me, and a doctor would in shortly, then left. Never saw her again. A doctor (don't remember her name) did come in shortly after, ask where I was hurting, had me pull up my pants leg and looked at my knee. Her diagnosis was that I had sciatica, even though I told her I had a history of Gout in the knee and had had two arthroscopic surgeries for meniscus tears in that knee. I know what gout feels like. She condescended saying she would order an X-ray just in case, but still thought it was sciatica. I waited another half hour or so and a portable X-ray was brought in and my knee was X-rayed. About an hour later, around 6:45, I was totally miserably laying on the bed, as the head was up and the foot was down. The doctor came back in and said, "can't get comfortable, huh", then went on to say that I had some arthritis in the knee, she still thought it was sciatica, but no exam or testing for sciatica. The doctor said I should go see my orthopedic doctor. She asked me if I had a ride, and I said no that I was driving myself. She said she had called in a prescription for pain medication to Randall's pharmacy, but could not give me anything strong, as I was driving, so was going to get me some over the counter pain reliever to take now. I was expecting a shot of cortisone, which is standard pain relief for gout. I told the doctor that I hurt so bad that I felt nauseous. She said nothing just left. I expected her to return promptly with the cortisone and Tylenol, but after about 15 minutes I felt like I was going to throw up and or have diarrhea. I went into the hallway I was having difficulty walking as my knee felt like it would collapse, and the pain was terrible. I was holding onto the wall looking for a restroom when a young woman texting on her phone walked by. I asked if there was a restroom close. She glanced up nodded her head and said, "around the corner", then kept on walking. No offer of assistance. I walked toward the Nurses' desk where maybe a dozen people were standing. They could see that I was in distress, but no one offered to assist or ask if I was OK. Found the restroom, gagged some, but didn't throw up as I had not been able to eat much. The feeling of diarrhea passed, so headed back to the room. I was disoriented and did not know which way to go. Again, no help from the onlookers. Just a dozen people standing around. I'm sure some of them were actually working, but still no offer to assist by anyone. Made it back to the room and waited until 7:15 or 7:20, but the doctor did not return with the cortisone or Tylenol. Knowing my pharmacy at Randalls closed at 8pm I wanted to get there before they closed to be sure and get some pain medication. I knew time was running out for me to get to Randalls and knew the doctor was not going to give the shot of cortisone that would instantly relieve the pain, so opted to just leave, so I could get to the pharmacy on time. I staggered past the Nurses' desk and headed toward the exit. No one bothered to ask if I was OK, no one cared, just looked. Got to the exit and the automatic door would not open, so in frustration and pain I slapped the door, at which time someone said, 'what's his problem". I turned around and said, "My problem is I have been here over 3 hours in severe pain, and no one has done anything to relieve the pain, so I just want out of here so I can get to the pharmacy to get some pain medication". A young blonde headed woman stuck her head around the corner and ask if I had been dismissed, to which I answered "No". She said, "Go sit over there and I will get your discharge papers, you certainly aren't stuck here" (very compassionate). I have no idea what kind of a release I signed (probably releasing the ER from any and all liability). I did make it to Randalls by 7:55, but the prescription was never called in. I survived the weekend, albeit with severe pain. Went to Dr Blais, who looked at my X-ray and said, "Yep, got gout in that knee". Gave me a shot of cortisone and I left almost pain free (20 minutes tops). The Hippocratic Oath says, "D

I was admitted with life threatening conditions. These professionals catered to my every need. I've never been so impressed or tended to by such good folks. Can't say enough great things about them.
