A nice chapel, very informative details shared on the headphone guide set. I also saw the memorial where Queen Elizabeth II and Duke of Edinburgh was buried and also the main church where there were previous royal weddings and funerals. Sadly can't take pictures of inside the chapel.

Magnificent chapel with a Gothic architectural grandeur more typical of a fine cathedral, situated within the grounds of Windsor Castle. One of the highlights of the castle visit, the chapel's interior is as impressive as its exterior, with stunning ceilings, soaring arches and ornate oriel windows. Unfortunately photography is not permitted inside, but this helps keep visitors flowing through to avoid crowding. A number of memorials reside within the chapel, with 10 former royals laid to rest inside. The digital audio guide covers the chapel in detail and helps enhance the visitor experience. The chapel opening times are more restricted than the rest of the castle grounds, so it's worth checking the website before visiting to avoid disappointment.

Highly recommended! St George's Chapel is a Gothic chapel located in the lower bailey of Windsor Castle in Berkshire, England. Windsor, the most important castle in England, is the primary residence of the monarch. The castle chapel is under the direct jurisdiction of the monarch and is the seat of the Congregation of the Order of the Garter. The castle chapel was founded in the 14th century by King Edward III and significantly expanded in the late 15th century. It is the site of many royal church services, weddings and funerals. If you bought a ticket to visit Windsor Castle, the chapel is included in the ticket price. You can also buy a separate ticket for much cheaper if you do not plan to visit the castle. A castle + chapel ticket costs 35 pounds, a ticket only for the chapel is about 7 pounds. Information accurate as of June 2025. P.S. I try to share specific information. If the review was useful, put 👍. I don't get any "goodies", but other tourists will see this review first. Have a good mood and exciting travels!🌍☀️🪂

Google
It is a must to visit in the Windsor castle site as it is the place where over 10 UK monarchs were buried, including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Sadly, tourists are not allowed to take any photos inside the chapel.

Amazing. So glad I visited after seeing it a few times on television. Great to have been able to pay our respects to the late Queen. Well worth a visit!

Google
Within the grounds of Windsor Castle and a bit of a misnomer.... chapel, it's more like a cathedral. Epic historical building. No photography allowed inside. Built in the late medieval perpendicular Gothic style. Founded in the 14th century. Definitely worth going to see if you like architecture as the interior is magnificent and awesome.

Went to a service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and it was beautiful hearing the choir. The service was quite full with a national scout day so I’d be curious to visit when less people are there.

Yelp
Lovely. I just wish you could take photos inside. I liked the chapel as a walk-through experience better than the castle itself and the royal apartments and rooms. It is beautiful inside and out, with a few very notable dead royals buried and memorialized there. You will get more out of it as well if you have waited and gotten one of the free audio guides at the entrance.

Yelp
The visit is included with the admission ticket to Windsor Castle and I would recommend booking in advance as lines can be very long and you may not get an entry depending on the time you show up at the entrance. Also included is an audio commentary (in your choice of language), each explanation is around one minute long, perfect to understand what you are looking at. Make sure you check the website for opening hours as some days the castle is open but the chapel is closed and they tend to end the visits early afternoon. Inside, the chapel is a lot more impressive than I expected, much bigger and more like a mini cathedral. Another way to discover it (although you don't see as much) is to attend one of the services sung by the chapel choir, and accompanied by the organ. When we went, the service was happening at 5:15 pm on a Sunday, we had to wait at the gate around 5 pm and it ended at about 6pm. Surprisingly, it was not crowded and it's free. It was an impressive experience, the voices of the singers so powerful and beautiful. Whether you go to the service or not (I recommend you do!), St George's Chapel is worth a visit!

Yelp
A beautiful church in the heart of the Windsor Castle complex This is inside the Windsor Castle complex and is one of the many sights that you can see while you are there. Entry is via a purchased ticket into the complex. The ticket is good for a year so if you plan on returning at any time in the next 365 days get the stamp it only took a couple of minutes. The chapel is "down the hill" in the Lower Ward area. It is hard to miss as it is an impressive, imposing structure. No pictures are allowed inside parts of the chapel but that leaves the visitor plenty of area to take pictures outside the buildings on the grounds. Entry is through a clearly marked area off the walkway. You are guided through a specific path to see all the different parts of the church. It is breathtaking with its impressive architecture and gorgeous large stained glass areas. There is an audio tour that is included that I highly recommend and will give you a lot of information necessary to understand the history and context of what you are seeing throughout the various parts. This is a working church so access may be limited but they invite the public to participate if you are present. There is a lot to see throughout the building due to its long history and association with the monarchy. This is a must-see for anyone visiting the area!

Yelp
St George's is pretty impressive for a "chapel" - it's more like a mini-cathedral filled with memorials, fan vaulting and stained glass. The church was founded by Edward III and then was expanded in by later monarchs. You'll see a giant stained glass window showing Henry VIII at the top (of course) as well as his burial place - it's a rather small floor marker in the quire. The medieval chantries are especially impressive and pretty well preserved - definitely unique in what is now a Protestant church. Don't miss the Garter Chapel where all the knights of the Garter have seats. You can't take photos inside and the Verger's are pretty strict about it. They said, if you do have questions - ask away as they are happy to give you the history behind this pretty "chapel".

Yelp
Visited April 2015: "Breathtaking!!" No photos were allowed to be taken. We stayed for Good Friday service, and admired the burials of 5 monarch and the architecture of the chapel. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
This castle is AMAZING! We were able to take pictures in front of the entrance, even with some of the guards. The kids were allowed to play on the patch of grass and take pictures on the grassy area.

Yelp
I came in here thinking this would be a museum-like tourist attraction. How surprised I was to find out that it was a working chapel. When I saw recent children's artwork displayed, I knew this was a real church. We got in and there were a few guides (?) / docents (?) / local volunteers (?) in uniform, admonishing people not to take pics. One didn't see a Korean guy taking surreptitious pics right in front of her, though. I guess I have to be a member of the royal family to not think this weird, but having my ancestors buried on my property is kind of freaky. Having them buried in the same church I still worship at is borderline crazy. I immediately noticed the names of QEII's immediate relatives buried here: the Queen Mum; her sister Princess Margaret; her father King George V; her grandparents King George IV and Mary of Teck, etc. And then there were a few of the relatives from her more distant past (Jane Seymour was the only one I remembered). The chapel was beautiful inside and actually much smaller than I expected. It was the size of some of the churches I visited in my local towns. If you rented the earphone guides, they work here. It was nice seeing my former interest in royal history culminate in an actual visit to final resting places.

Yelp
When visiting Windsor Castle, I would suggest going to the chapel first as it closes the earliest. The level of detail in the architecture is just amazing and it's the only Protestant church in England, which still shows it Catholic roots in the form of the preserved chantries. Also checking out the final resting place of so many Kings of England gave me goosebumps. I could have happily spent more time here and hope to be back to attend an actual service here one day.

Yelp
Smells like a cow took a shit in here. The toilet in the men's room was clogged. Nasty place.
