Saffron Is a Semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in the 2018 James Beard Awards | Eater New Orleans

"I learned that every Friday during Lent (except Good Friday) St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge serves gumbo — now in its 67th year — prepared and served by volunteers, with options of chicken-and-sausage or shrimp gumbo plus salad, bread, dessert and a drink, available for dine-in or drive-through pickup, with proceeds supporting the church's outreach projects." - Alison Baitz

27 years ago when looking for a new church home, my wife and I found St. James. The beauty of the church first captured our attention, but the church community is what has kept us there. Its clergy and our fellow parishioners are our anchors as our family navigates a changing and uncertain world. I am proud that our church community continues to share a kind a welcoming celebration of Jesus Chris with all who come- exactly same as they did for us all those years ago. Gary Field

St. James is a great church and a great school. Diverse parish with incredible outreach programs for our homeless community. The aim of the parish is to be open and welcome to all through and in Christ. Highly recommend attending a liturgy. I’ll give you a ride if you need one!!

it was the baptism of my grandson even though I am a Catholic and don't regularly attend this church. my son and his family are active members of the congregation amd my grandchildren attend the day school as my own children did. I love the church amd day school. l gave it 4 stars only because I am not a member of the church. I find it warm, welcoming with a dynamic young pastor who has young children who attend the day school. I, a non church member, owe it so very much. God bless St. James.

Very nice people. They served a Hearty Breakfast for the less fortunate. Not only provided the meal, but waited on each person, treating them with dignity and respect, as Christ himself would.

I called the St James Episcopal Church on Valentines, and spoke with Mr. John the food pantry manager. I explained my needing some food asap. The Food pantry was closed. But, he allowed to come the same day and pick up some bags of groceries. Thank God

I would not give any stars for this church if I could. I attended service here once and will never be back. As a new resident in Baton Rouge my husband and I did not feel very welcome attending services here. Throughout the service we received nothing but stares from everyone. Beware, this church does not seem to like new parishioners.

Great place for families to worship; there are three masses at 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and 5:00 PM; nurseries are provided durning Christian education, and the 10:30 AM mass; connected to the Day School. Known for gumbo on Friday during Lent.
