St Joseph's, Old Town, Dubrovnik, Croatia - Explore & Book

"Tucked away in the heart of Dubrovnik, St Joseph's is owned by a charming family who are originally from the region but have spent 2 decades living in London. This means that while they can provide a wealth of local insight into Croatian history and culture, they’re also very sensitive to the expectations of British visitors. They purchased this 16th-century building in derelict condition, and undertook an intense 2-year restoration, assisted by conservation experts. The result is an impeccable example of Dubrovnik architecture from the Baroque period, with beautifully carved stonework and beamed ceilings. And before they opened, they added a few discreet details, such as a coat of arms, to enhance the aristocratic demeanour. Inside, the furnishing is as dignified as the building, and the service highly personalised - but the atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming, and never pretentious. This is a place to unwind and reassess the simple pleasures of life - elegant architecture, a car-free Old Town, the glistening blue Adriatic and a balmy Mediterranean climate. Highs 8 romantic and spacious rooms, and an apartment for 2-4, with slick marble bathrooms A gourmet breakfast with invigorating smoothies, delivered to your door at a time of your choice Suites have in-room kitchenettes; useful for whipping up light meals Gracious hosts who advise about restaurants and things to see and do Surprisingly peaceful, considering the central location just off Stradun, the main thoroughfare Lows You'll need to reserve well in advance, especially in high season No common areas or outside space No kids aged 4+; this is a tranquil hotel, aimed at couples (though they are warmly welcoming to young children) No elevator and no ground-floor rooms, so pack light All beds are doubles and there are no extra beds" - Jane Foster

St Joseph's | Best places to stay in Dubrovnik

"This restored 16th-century historic townhouse ideally located in the Old Town, is a fine heritage stay and perfect for exploring the city and its main sights., The main building has six plush suites with exposed stonework, white Baroque-inspired furnishing (including cleverly hidden kitchenettes) and white marble bathrooms. The highlight is breakfast, delivered to your room at the time of your choice by a maid – feast on platters of sliced fresh fruit and divine homemade pastries. The annex (opened in 2021) has an additional three rooms and a shared kitchen. The welcoming concierge will fulfill your whims and wishes, including recommendations for dining, sightseeing and excursions. " - Jane Foster

We loved our stay at St.Joseph’s Boutique Hotel. The reception by Nemanja and Stefan was friendly and helpful, even before we arrived. Our airport pick up was waiting when we arrived even though our flight was late in. Nemanja met us at the old city gates and helped us with our bags to the hotel. It’s perfectly placed in a quiet side street but just off the bustling centre. The rooms were fresh, authentic, spacious, immaculately clean and nicely laid out. Our room had a kitchenette and dining table. Continental breakfast was served in our room every day. We decided on the timing each day. If you are looking to fill up for the day, you may wish to visit a local bakery later on, but for those that are happy with a continental breakfast, it was fine and very fresh. The special smoothy is delicious! The hotel itself is beautifully decorated. I’d thoroughly recommend it if you want something special and not just a chain hotel with ‘identikit’ rooms. Thanks St.Joseph’s, for a lovely stay!

We stayed here for two nights. What a treat. It was so lovely to have a hotel right in the center of the old town. The staff could not have been nicer; they consistently went out of their way to help us. If you are concerned about getting your luggage to the hotel, don't worry, the staff will meet you and bring it to the hotel for you. Loved our stay.

We loved our stay at the hotel. LOVE. Extermely attentive staff that even before your arrive replies to emails quickly, but when you get there they make sure that everything is perfect for your activities. We chose to get guides via the hotel and were extermely happy. Breakfast is service in your room. Pro Tip it might be too much food but just ask for less. The location cannot be better quite, very comformatable rooms. If you coming to Dubrovnik staying here is ideal.

I can’t say enough about the quality of service this place provided. Our trip did not start that great because our “car service” would not drop us off near Old Town and we had to walk almost 30 minutes and it was at the wrong gate with 1000 steps. We called the hotel for guidance and Stephan came to the rescue. He left the hotel and came and met us and walked our luggage all the way to the hotel, avoiding the stairs. Anything we asked for he was happy to provide (reservations, car services, food suggestions, etc). At our departure, Surgon personally walked us to our car out of the city to make sure we were got there. The rooms are extremely cute. We stayed in one of the suites, with a small view of the church. The room was huge for a boutique hotel, with a small kitchenette. Robes and slippers were provided along with luxury toiletries. The location inside of old town couldn’t be better, it’s 5 minutes from the farthest point and you don’t need to take stairs to get there. We have stayed in numerous 5 star hotels and this place we will always remember, outstanding job!

My husband and I had an incredible stay at St. Joseph's during our honeymoon this month! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and gave great recommendations for things to do and restaurants to try. The location is perfect for exploring the old town - everything was just a few minutes' walk away! The suite was extremely clean, the mattress so comfortable, and the AC worked beautifully! We will definitely stay again the next time we're in Dubrovnik!

Our family of four stayed two nights. This is the perfect hotel to explore Old Town, especially at night with the cooler weather. The hotel booked a private boat tour to the Elafiti Islands that was fabulous (boat tours are by far what makes Croatia unique compared to other US and European sea destinations). The hotel also booked a walking tour of the wall at 8:00 am that was great. There are a lot of luxury hotels in Dubrovnik, but most require a drive to Old Town, which does not allow cars, and are more modern and impersonal. We preferred staying in Old Town for a short stay to really experience the charm and then heading to the islands with fewer crowds. We really enjoyed St. Joseph’s staff and breakfast that they pick up locally each morning. A much more intimate, unique experience than the massive resorts.

This is a quaint, nice hotel. Breakfast and service are excellent. It's a good location. Rooms are on the small side but that's to be expected. Lots going on right outside. My only complaint is that a local gentleman/neighbor and kitchen staff were out in the street in front of the hotel smoking all night. Even though our window was closed, I could smell cigarettes all night which was very unpleasant and it kept me awake. We stayed in the Annex on the middle floor. It might be better in the main hotel. Personally I would not stay here again for that reason.

Great location in the middle of the old town. Comfortable beds with a delicious breakfast served at a table in your room. The hosts were friendly, helpful and fantastic. No cars allowed in the old town so our host met us at the city gate and hauled our luggage over the ancient streets for us (and again when we left). They also arranged a car and driver from the airport and our driver, like out hosts, was super friendly. All spoke good English.
