6 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In NYC Between February 23rd - March 1st

"Venture into 12 St. Marks and you’ll find VSpot Express, the East Village outpost of Park Slope’s VSpot, a vegan Latin restaurant with plant-based takes on chicharrónes and empanadas. Keep going through the back, and you’ll find St. Mark’s Comedy Club, a full-on comedy speakeasy where you can catch some of the city’s best stand ups–including the brothers who own VSpot. This Saturday, February 26th, co-owner-turned-HBOMax comedian Alex Carabano will be headlining an all-Latinx comedy show at the venue. Order the appetizer sampler and hear about the horrified reaction Alex’s Colombian family had to his meatless existence. Entry is free. RSVP here. " - neha talreja

VSpot Express - Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Taking a date to a comedy club is always a risky move. You could get stuck sitting in front, where the comic can call you out and trap you in some twisted form of couples therapy, and your only food options are usually chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks. At this East Village Latin vegan restaurant, there’s a full-on comedy club in the back called St. Marks Comedy Club, where you can order platanos maduro supreme and plant-based crispy chicharron to stuff in your mouth when the comic asks you if you’re together together. Take a vegan who’ll appreciate the comedian-owner dropping in to do a very plant-based standup routine about his meat-loving family." - Neha Talreja

not a bad place to spend a funny evening, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. but the hood doesn't work well, if they make French fries the smell is all over the place and not the best. Overall a good experience to visit there and spend an evening. Reasonable and polite staff

St. Mark’s Comedy Club in New York is a fantastic hidden gem in the East Village, offering an intimate setting, great vibes, and consistently strong stand-up lineups. During my recent visit, the highlight of the night was stand-up comedian Vishnu Vaka, who absolutely stole the show with his hilarious and relatable performance. His unique storytelling style, witty one-liners, and sharp observations about life, culture, and identity had the entire room laughing nonstop. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and solid food and drink options made the evening even more enjoyable. If you’re in NYC and looking for a great comedy night, St. Mark’s is a must — especially if Vishnu Vaka is on stage!

I followed this comedian to the club and had such a great time! The vibe was fun, the crowd was lively, and the laughs were nonstop. If you’re looking to add some fun to your week, this is the perfect spot. Check out @HesamTorrComedy on Instagram for upcoming shows—you won’t regret it!

Awesome little venue, ideally located on a street with so much diversity, culture, and food!!! I can't believe I've lived in NYC for 15 years and hadn't even heard of it. I was wandering around on a kinda wet, gloomy night and just wandered into this. There was a Snark Tank show happening and it ended up being one of the dark horse highlights of my year!! The venue is quite small and there's no assigned seating so be sure to show up a little early to get in line to get seated. However, you can't be seated until the start time of a show because they do back to back shows, so don't show up too early. Probably 15 mins is the sweet spot. They have a 2 drink minimum policy, similar to most comedy clubs in the city. And also serve chips and salsa, and sometimes empanadas. They do not have a full bar. You can only order what's on their limited menu.

Lots of tasty vegan options. All from different parts of the world. I would come here wether I was plant based or not. The prices compared to other spots in the city are decent. It was cool that we have the option to order at the counter or via tablet. We decided to go with the three for $10 empanada special. We got the Philly Cheese , Jamaican and the Bean Empanada. The crust of the empanadas were very flaky, which is a great touch. The place was really clean and allowed patrons to use the restroom even during quarantine. Very cool owners! I would definitely come here again. But not order the bean empanada. It was very bland. The dipping sauce was good, more vinegar based and wasn’t as thick as we preferred!

The Go-to meal is the Cali burger. The Nacho fries is a must if you're in large groups! The shakes & smoothies are awesome! Please keep in mind that this is Latin American INSPIRED** VEGAN food. It's cozy, and if you're an artist they do events (not sure if monthly) to have artists come and hang their work up for sale! You might see my work up there in the next few months!

Fun comedy club with an intimate feel. There are a mix of performances with more seasoned and fresh comedians.

This comedy club is a great place to catch a show, with good vibes and a lively atmosphere that sets the perfect mood for a fun night out. The air conditioning is well-regulated, keeping the space comfortable even when the room is packed. However, there are a few downsides. The biggest issue is that there’s only one bathroom, which can be a real inconvenience, especially with a large crowd. Be prepared for lines during intermission or after the show. Additionally, there’s a one-drink minimum per person, which might not appeal to everyone, especially if you’re just there for the comedy and not looking to drink. Service was ok. Asked for napkins and did not get any. Overall, it’s a fun spot with a good atmosphere, but the limited bathroom facilities and drink requirement are worth considering before you go.

Yelp
I came here on a random night walking around the city with a coworker after our holiday party. Someone outside asked if we wanted to see a show and we figured "why not?" The intimate setting felt warm because the comedians were super friendly and told some pretty funny jokes. It was obvious these were newer comedians working on their craft, but it's always great to support local talent and up and comers. We were surprised at how many of the comedians made us laugh out loud. We experienced a heckler in our audience and the comedians handled the situation so well - and once the heckler became really annoying the staff escorted them out. We wanted to start clapping! lol Definitely recommend this place - food is reasonably priced, staff is friendly and support some local up and coming talent!

Yelp
A group of five of us bought $10 tickets each plus a two drink minimum. The two drink minimum includes a 20% tip. I ended up spending $65 for two people in total. We got seated at 7pm. The show started at 8pm. It ended at 8:30pm. There was a free bachata class afterwards. That was fun. I believe you can buy the bachata class and comedy combo online. This was on a Sunday. The comedians weren't bad. They were friendly and had a few good jokes. It's an old club and they are looking for support.

Yelp
Most of the comedians were so funny except this one Russian guy that made absolutely no sense but that in itself was pretty funny. The show was about two hours and we saw about 8 comedians. The mc was great and I really loved his set. Sorry I hope I didn't offend the Russian guy you probably have potential.

Shelby A.

Yelp
Comedians were hit or miss, some funnier than others. The real dealbreaker was the MC, who was so unfunny and aggressive that he made us feel like we were being held hostage. He even (aggressively) called out a poor girl for visibly cringing at one of his jokes, causing second hand embarrassment to the entire room. The jokes were not landing, and he kept blaming and harassing the public for not laughing/engaging. If you have an easily bruised ego, why would you choose this line of work? Anyways, I would never write a review to call out a comedian because I didn't find them funny (to each their own), but this guy was so aggressive that he made the entire public incredibly uncomfortable and created an awkward atmosphere that did not benefit the performing comedians.

Yelp
This place has pretty good comedy shows. The space is pretty cool looking too. It's also not too small so that was nice. Two drink minimum for the show I went to but the drinks were good! And it's not hard to get through two drinks during a show.

Eve J.

Yelp
Tony was extremely rude to a group of my friends when we asked what time the show started since it was 10 minutes past the supposed start. he was extremely rude right off the bat when we came to take our drink order. "you guys keep asking me. do you have somewhere else to be?" We did have somewhere to be so after about 15 minutes of waiting and extremely rude service we decided to leave. We were able to get our money back from the hostess at the front who was extremely kind and understanding. it seems like it must have been a reoccurring issue with Tony since the host didn't seem surprised when we mentioned his name. "Yeah he's a dick." Could have been an okay show but wasn't very interested in getting talked down to by a 40 year old on a power trip. Avoid this place like the plague, there's a million other comedy clubs in the east village where you'll be treated normally.

Yelp
I've visited this place before and have had a good time. But it seems they've had new management since the V-Spot was taken down. The night I went was absolutely terrible. The MC was uninviting and clearly made the room uncomfortable. Him and the rest of the comedians on the lineup only had jokes about race or politics. It was a very long lineup too which contained pretty much all of the workers at the club. Their jokes about race were repetitive and not funny at all, one comedian even took it upon himself to "push the comedy aside" and go on a political rant. It was so bad that people left mid show and the only people laughing were the comedians huddled up in a group in the back as they went up. We also paid $40 for two drinks that tasted like strawberry lemonade.

Alma R.

Yelp
These guys seem genuine and the location is cool. They let me know about they had a comedy show going on but I was too tired for the night - apologies! Hope they can look at their Yelp review to help improve and continue doing what they love. Good luck!
